Came here for a cleaning and to replace an amalgam filling with a composite. Dr. Son and his staff couldn’t have been nicer, taking the time to understand my needs and explaining the treatment approach and answering all my questions. I feel that they genuinely care for your well-​being and take the time to do a thorough job that will last, rather than a quick fix like some other dentists. Also learned a lot from Dr. Son. I will definitely be coming back.

Just came in to get a wisdom tooth extracted after my routine bi-​yearly cleaning and I must say… wow!
The most painless and easy procedure I’ve ever had done. The cleaning is always fantastic but the extraction was flawless. The good doctor might as well be a magician! He walked me though what was going to happen and then began. Before I knew it… DONE! Couldn’t be any happier. If you need dental work, definitely come here! Good work, good people, good service. I flew 2500 miles to see Dr. Son as I had more than a few dental and medical issues. My friend from Newport Beach has been raving about him, and she had convinced me to make an appointment with Dr. Son who practices holistic dentistry. At first appointment, I was convinced that I made a right decision. He is not only an expert on dentistry, but has a vast knowledge on naturopathic medicine. I have never met more caring doctor than Dr. Son. He removed all my mercury fillings safely with special equipment and I was wearing an oxygen mask throughout the procedures to prevent from inhaling mercury. It is amazing how good I feel after removing all the mercury in my mouth. Thank you so much Dr. Son and his wonderful staff! I will not hesitate to fly over again for any dental care in the future. It was more than worthwhile.

Man do I hate going to the dentist. I am a chicken when it comes to pain. I am a chicken when it comes to the thought of getting «numbed up» for a procedure.
Dr. Son has been my dentist for years. Gentle hands. As painless as you could possibly hope for. I could not recommend him more highly. The staff is well trained and caring. The office has the latest equipment and the Dr. uses the latest techniques.

Friendliest, cleanest and most professional dentist in town! Great results every time! I come here for TMJ treatment and standard dental services (cleaning). Dr. Son is an expert in TMJ handling and I recommend to anyone who has not found relief yet.

The family has been coming to Dr Son for years and we are just so takin care of! Very professional, explains in detail and very friendly. The staff is ‘icing’ on the cake.

Before going to Dr. Son’s office for the first time in January of 2014, I hadn’t seen a dentist in many years. I was one of those people that was scared, partly because I didn’t have the greatest experiences in the past at dental offices, and partly because I knew I needed so much work that I felt a sense of embarrassment about my teeth. I finally relented and agreed to go to Dr. Son’s office (at a friend’s recommendation) after I had suffered through a constant toothache for about a week.
The first thing I noticed were the warm smiles of Janice and Terry at the front desk, and a constant theme of each of my dental visits so far has been that Dr. Son and his staff know how to deal with people. They look you in the eye when speaking to you, and it is not just mundane, obligatory conversation. A very important part of any enterprise that deals with the public is customer service, and Dr. Son and his staff understand this perfectly.
The next thing I noticed was that the office is immaculate. Everything is pristine, from the cleanliness of the office to the state-​of-​the-​art nature of the dental equipment. Then I had X-​rays taken and, of course, I knew that the state of my teeth was less than good. Dr. Son spoke with me for quite a while about what was happening, what needed to be done going forward, and, yes, that my issues are correctable. He was honest and frank, yet it never came across as a lecture. You expect that your dentist is going to be super-​knowledgeable, but it really makes you feel far more at ease when he or she is also good at people skills.
It turns out that I needed a root canal on my first visit, and my worries about pain came to the forefront. I am here to tell you that I didn’t feel a single moment of pain during the root canal, nor have I felt any pain whatsoever during any of my visits so far. This is an advanced dental practice, and they don’t even need to inject you with a needle anymore; they use a small laser-​like tool to numb the affected area. For anybody worried about experiencing pain from dental work, I can’t stress enough how painless everything has been.
I still have a long way to go, but I couldn’t be more pleased with my experience at Dr. Son’s office so far. After just a few weeks since my initial visit, my smile looks much better thanks to Dr. Son’s work, and, even more importantly, I actually feel better, both physically and mentally. Dr. Son and his staff of Nancy, Lynn, Janice, and Terry understand that they are in the business of helping people, and they do it very well. (I have not met Linda yet, but look forward to). In short? If you need a highly competent, caring dentist who works in a state-​of-​the-​art office with a great staff, you’ll make an appointment to go see Dr. Son.

I have been going to Dr. Son’s office for years and I have referred many of my friends and co-​workers to him. He and his team transformed my smile and we had a good time doing it. We are always laughing and talk like best girlfriends. If you are scared of the dentist, this is the best place for you. I would even go as far to say, it’s a little therapeutic. Do it!

I have about 26 of my original 32 teeth left… 32, right? Dr. David Son in Irvine has been helping keep the «26» in tip top shape despite all my efforts to the contrary. The best part is, he does it without so much as a tingle. He’s also a stickler for details, like insuring a bridge fits absolutely perfectly before pinning it down permanently. His dental lab must hate him. But it’s clear his employees love him, and like to spread the love as they assist him running what is one of the best dental offices in the area. I highly recommend the good Dr. Son and his staff.

I’ve been meaning to write a review for Dr. Son for a while. I am happy to read that so far his reviews have been as favorable as the one I am about to write.
I was referred to Dr. David Son from an acquaintance of my mother’s about 2 years ago. Just like many of you out there, I am not religious about tending to my dental care… UNTIL I met and have been treated by Dr. Son and his staff.
Needless to say I had been in need of a couple of thousand dollars’ worth of treatment upon my first visit. I am sure you are shocked just as I was at first, but he took the time to review the x-​rays and other camera gadgets he has to show color pictures of each tooth that had a problem. He took the time and described the best and worst case scenarios to me. It finally hit me after our consult that I needed to desperately start a good cleaning regimen and that I couldn’t wait any longer to get my teeth cleaned out, crowned and cavities filled. My previous dentist was rough, impatient with me and felt like I was being upsold and taken advantage of. With Dr. Son; I didn’t feel that way. I was much more comfortable with his technique of the work that he described had to be done.
With the help of the front office staff they handled my insurance billing and offered financing options to make it all happen at once. I had about 2 lengthy (four hour) visits to tackle each side of my mouth. Along with a few follow up visits for crown fittings etc. He and his staff make it as comfortable as they can for these long visits. Blankets, neck pillows and my personal favorite are these awesome sunglasses that have tiny movie projection screens things on them. Nothing better than watching Pretty Woman when getting 3 crowns put on! Totally helps you to relax and take your mind off of what’s really happening. Nice touch!
I can honestly tell you that he has gentle hands, makes sure you’re completely numb before drilling, talks with you and explains what he’s doing throughout the procedure and he does have a good sense of humor. I haven’t experienced any unbearable pain after a procedure; but he offers his after hour contact info in case something was to happen.
Since my first few major repair visits, I have gone back for routine cleanings and x-​rays, nothing else has popped up since and no repair has been needed on the work that he has done! To me that’s quite a testimony to his expertise and follow up care that I do at home now.
Bottom line: I would recommend anyone and everyone to Dr. Son. He isn’t cheap; but he is worth every penny!

I really dislike going to the dentist, but Dr. David Son and his staff are wonderful! Everyone is always happy, and that makes me as a patient, very comfortable. For the most part, I try to avoid the dentist unless there is something seriously wrong with my teeth, but now I go every couple months on the dot for a routine cleaning. I have had work done by almost every hygienist there and they are all fantastic. I highly recommend this establishment.

I have gone to numerous dentists over the years yet never one like Dr. David Son and that is why I am writing this review.
Earlier this year I needed emergency care for an infected tooth. I called in the morning and was told to come right in. They took care of me immediately and spent the time needed to successfully complete their work. Also, I just received a cleaning and it was actually a pleasant experience. All of the nervousness I used to have about going to the dentist is gone!
The staff and state of the art equipment give them the ability to take care of the needs of their patients. Dr. Son’s knowledge of dentistry is amazing. He has suggested and done work for me and I will go nowhere else.
Finally, I want to say for anyone wanting a dental experience that will exceed your expectation, call Dr.Son.

I went in last week for a routine cleaning and check-​up and had a great experience like always, and Nancy is my favorite hygenist. I actually like getting my teeth cleaned now! Dr. Son filled a cavity 3 months ago and that went without a hitch as well, even though the cavity was deeper than expected. I like the fact that there is no big dental needle in this office, as I was always wary of it. The needleless numbing device Dr. Son uses is useful, and doesn’t numb half your face which is great, but a few hours after my tooth was a little sore in the area around the gums. Still better than a needle though, especially for those that don’t like needles.
I will be referring my friends and family. I have already refereed my roommate and coworker!

I have been going to Dr. Son for last 5 years and I live in LA 50 miles away! His great staff, all high tech equipments, and of course the best Dentist in LA & OC combined. I’ve had multiple crowns done and working on my 5^th implant. It’s worth the drive! My DDS for life!!!

This is overdue, as my last experience with this office was about 2 years ago, but that doesn’t change what’s happened.
I came here on a referral from my boss at the time. I hadn’t had dental insurance in several years since I wasn’t afforded benefits through most of my jobs and was a student otherwise, but I had them now and I was going to use them! I made an appointment for a cleaning and exam.
To their credit, they are very nice and fairly well organized in the office aspect. I felt comfortable and their lobby is very clean and modern. The treatment/​exam area was bright, the ceiling was painted to resemble a bright blue sky, a pleasant view while you’re staring up and trying to avoid staring directly into your hygienists eyes or up their nose (I’m not the only one, right?) My hygienist was SO sweet and did a fantastic job on my cleaning and didn’t scold me too hard for my lack of flossing. I wish I could remember her name, but it was 2 years ago and I just don’t. I ended up needing to come back in for a deep cleaning, as those several years without insurance and therefore no really good cleanings led to some tartar that needed removing.
After my cleaning, the dentist saw me and he was nice, but I was starting to feel like I was being pushed into buying things or getting procedures done that just weren’t necessary. His assistant commented on what pretty teeth I had, it was just such a shame they were covered up by so much gum and that I should look into having some sort of gum reduction procedure. For the record, my teeth-​to-​gum ratio is fine, they aren’t corn nibblet small and they aren’t horse-​toothed long. She followed up by saying once that was done, I’d need whitening to make them look their best. I’m here for an exam and cleaning, not a cosmetic consultation. The doctor looked at the x-​rays and declared me cavity free and then told me I needed to get some sort of oral cancer screening done with some camera… that wouldn’t be covered under my insurance as this was something above and beyond the scope of the normal appointment. Now, I give him points for telling me it wouldn’t be covered before just going ahead and doing it, but again, I felt like it was an up sell, since I was a nonsmoker, non-​tobacco using, early 20’s person.
Skip to 6 months down the road when it came time for my next cleaning appointment (the one for removing the tartar came and went with the same hygienist and no issues). The front office is still just as nice, but when it came time for my x-​rays, the girl trying to do those seemed more nervous about it than I could be and kept messing them up. Particularly the canine area & the very back ones, so after several failed attempts at getting them, I understandably start gagging each time she stuck the film back in there. She ends up just kinda giving up, like well, this will just have to do. I get my cleaning done by the same awesome hygienist again with no issues, and then go to see Dr. Son. He comes in and looks at my mangled x-​rays and proclaims I have EIGHT cavities!!! WHAT!!! I saw you 6 months ago and was cavity free! How could I possibly have 8 now?! He says its the top and bottom canines on both sides of my mouth and the ones next to them. How in the world can I have the same 4 cavities in each side of my mouth?! I told him the girl doing the x-​rays had trouble with those spots, so he has me redo the x-​rays. They come back (digital, thank goodness) and now I only have 4 cavities. I’m just not accepting this, so we do them once more with someone else doing them and NOW he’s finally satisfied and says he’s so sorry for all of the back and forth, but it looks like I only have 2 cavities, only the top on one side of my mouth. I’m absolutely bewildered how 6 months ago, when I hadn’t been to the dentist in YEARS, I was cavity free, but now 6 months later after I’ve been deep cleaned and had tartar removal, I’m suddenly chock full of cavities?! Cavities that mysteriously disappear each time I get x-​rays done? Rather than argue, I just made the appointment to have them filled 2 months out with the need to get a second opinion in the back of my head.
I never ended up getting those filled because I lost my job, and therefore insurance, about 3 weeks before the appointment. I called and canceled it and explained to them why. They obliged and called me a few months after the fact to see if I wanted to reschedule yet. Since I’d not been able to find new employment, I told them no and that I would contact them when I did. A few weeks ago, as in 2 years and a few weeks ago, they called AGAIN to schedule me. Are you that hard up for business? I told the girl to please remove me from her call list as I didn’t have a job with insurance yet. I do now, and I’m looking for another dentist.

Dr son is the best dentist I’ve ever had experience with. He has excellent bed side manner and is so sincere with his approach. The office does not try to up sell you, they instead developed a plan that was affordable and effective. I’m so thankful I found him and really value his sincerity and skill.

They score 5 stars for everything: professionalism, atmosphere, quality of service, customer service, and just darn willingness to help.
First, the important stuff. Dr. Son personally attended to me, unlike other dentists who pawn you off on their multitude of staff and only stare at your x-​rays for 5 minutes. He had 3 or so other patients going on and as far as I could tell, he was spending a lot of time on all of them!
The staff were all amazing. They were welcoming but not insincerely so, friendly and inquisitive, but not pushy, and professional and efficient. I did not wait at all and was promptly attended to as soon as I finished paperwork. I waited for Dr. Son for at the most, 5 minutes.
I want to also give their very nice office manager an additional bonus. I filled out my paperwork in a separate side room where afterwards she asked some standard first-​visit questions; I thought that was a very nice touch to put patients who need to fill out paperwork and answer questions in a separate room, rather than across the counter as most doctor’s offices do. Not that I mind that, I just think this was a very nice and classy touch. It was that extra something that made me feel I was not just another patient swinging through the door.
My consult, which was about growing jaw pain due to grinding, was lengthy and informative. Dr. Son went out of his way to explain to me the biomechanical reasons behind my pain and the methods of treating it. They even handled the billing part of it magnificently. Their office, which is out-​of-​network for me, was more than happy to call my insurance to check for me if the cost would be higher, lower, or the same in or out of network. (I would like to add that being paranoid and suspicious by nature I furtively called my insurance company to ask the same questions. The answers concurred perfectly)
Lastly, and this may be a personal thing, I love the fact that I went through an entire visit without having 50 million things pawned on me. «Yes, I know my teeth are crooked no I don’t want Invisalign.» or «Yes, I know my teeth are a little on the yellow side, no I’m not interested in brightening.»
Overall, if you’re looking for an Irvine dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Son and staff. I’m just sad they are out of network so I may not be able to continue with them (damn you American health care system!) but based on this amazing 1^st visit, if my insurance ever changes, I’m there.
