Erik’s Alterations

My daughter ordered a dress online for her winter formal, and it was way too big and long for her. She brought it here and a few days later it was like magic! Fit perfectly! I was highly impressed because the dress was a knit dress with a lace overlay, not the easiest item to alter. I will continue taking all my alternation needs to Erik’s Alterations!

I was told I could pick up my jeans by 4pm. Took a break from work to get it but end up waiting there for half an hour while they are «still working on it». Will not come back again.
Edit: the quality is not bad, the service is.

Just dropped off my new business suit for alterations. Posting the prices she charged me so others can compare: jacket: shorten sleeves =$ 25; pants: hem and take in waist=$ 25. I haven’t had these alterations done before but to me $ 50 seems kind of steep.
I would suggest that you pay when you pick up, and you should haggle on price.

I have been to Erik’s for years. The owner repeatedly fixes clothing for our entire family. Every time is it done well. She always gets it done on time and her prices are reasonable.

Apparently this place moved, but it is still within the University Town Center (UTC). They used to be by Eureka and Cha for Tea. Now they are located on second floor. Go up the stairs near 24 Hour Fitness and find suite 242.
Someone recommended this place to me for dress alterations. I had a satin strapless bridesmaid dress with a zipper in the back that needed to be tightened. When I tried to find it the first time, I called them to ask for specific directions. The guy who answered the phone barely spoke English. He told me to call after 10 am because the owner lady was running late… Seriously? I was appalled. Nevertheless, I found the place without his help. He left some safety pins in the dress to mark how much to alter the dress and let me drop it off. I came back three business days later (with the weekend in between), and the dress was ready to go. When I tried it on, the dress fit perfectly! I have no idea how she did it because I couldn’t tell what happened. Maybe it was a simple surgery, but she charged $ 25. The lady was really nice. I think I just found my go-​to clothing alteration place. Yay!

I brought in four dress shirts to have taken-​in in the back torso. Associate quickly pinned me up in the shirt and answered all of my questions.
I was given the option to pay then or later, and asked if it was rush or regular delivery. I picked them up a few days later and the fit was perfect. Quality work!

I dropped off two orders — one of a very heavy thick lace skirt that needed to be shortened from the waist and the second order, replace a hem on a skirt and shorten two tops at the waist and the sleeves. All were expertly done and the cost was minimal compared to my usual place near South Coast Plaza. Yes, the alterations place is on the second level above the 24 Hour Fitness and they were priced out of the market at their normal location and forced to move.

This place is super hard to find. It is temporarily (I believe) located inside the university town center offices, on the 2^nd floor deep within the office building, not where you’d expect to find a business.
Anyway, I am giving 2 stars because the quality of the service was just not good. To be fair, the dress i brought in was in a satin material that is pretty hard to work with. I got it altered b/​c the whole thing was way too big (they only make size 2 and i’m a 00). When I returned a week later to pick it up, overall it fit much better but the chest area was not altered at all. Whoever altered the dress had forgotten to alter the chest part completely, so the front desk lady altered («tacked») it right there for me, while i was waiting. It was crudely done with loose threads sticking out all over the place and you can see the thread visibly on the front of the dress. It still didn’t fit well even after «tacking» the chest part, but she said «well that is the best we can do with that material» and it still looks pretty bad. The whole thing still cost $ 45 even though it was obvious the job was not well done and the dress still doesn’t fit. So I’m stuck with this awkward-​looking, poorly fitted dress for the wedding :/​
I believe this place would be just fine for a simple alteration job such as shortening the length of an item, or hemming pants. Don’t bring anything too nice here for any fancy alternations though.

I’ve been using them for years. So, when I went to the original location and saw that it was gone, I totally panicked. But eventually figured out they moved to the ‘Offices’ area. Which is an odd place to have a business like that. My fear is they were pushed out by Irvine Co. so they could put in the wildly popular ice cream sandwich place. Umm. that place is dead by the way. But anyhooo, found my beloved Erik’s and got the same friendly and expert alterations at fair prices. So glad they are still around.

Came in to get some dress pants hemmed. I needed them within the same day and the woman was very nice about it. It was $ 10 for the alteration which isn’t bad considering I needed it last minute and it’s conveniently located for UCI students. The pants came out great and I will definitely be coming back.
They’re located on the second floor of the building above 24hour fitness, and the stairs are on the side of the post office.

I came here last week to get a dress hemmed — nothing fancy. The lady was so nice, and was done pinning the dress within about 5 minutes. It was $ 15. Now I can actually walk around in my dress! Extremely pleased with the service and the price.
The only thing was finding the place at first — they are located upstairs above the 24 hr fitness now.
I will definitely be coming back again, especially since the University Town Center has so many other great places, you can really knock out multiple items on your to-​do list while you wait!

This place was quick and efficient. I had a couple pairs of pants hemmed here and they all turned out great and it was very affordable. I will be going back here again.

I had three dresses that needed to be hemmed. I took them over on a Friday in hopes that one of them would be done for Saturday night and she was able to finish all three! I thought the stitching was good and she was ever able to find the right color of burgundy thread to match one of them. I thought the $ 15 price per dress was fair. I will be going back if I need anything done in the future.

Four stars for the high quality work and speed, minus one star for the prices. I’ve gotten a number of things altered here, mainly dresses and rompers and almost every time, they’ve turned out perfect! Lan and her team knows what they’re doing and I have come to trust them with anything I need to alter. Lan does not say much but is more concentrated on what you’re there for which is getting your clothes altered and that is fine by me. She will get you in and out of the place quick, especially if you know what you want done. If you need an alteration, Lan will get it done by the time you need it. She also fixes any mistakes or mishaps like a detached button for free if you just bring the garment back in. Will not disappoint :)

I bought a clubbing dress that was way too long on me for cheap, and I was sure I could get it altered to fit right. The problem was I needed it that weekend. So I Unilocaled a couple places and Erik’s Alterations was right at UTC, very convenient for a student.
I came in around 3pm, and asked if they could shorten the dress, but also get it done before they close. She told me to try on the dress so she could find the length that I wanted. After pinning up the part I wanted to cut off, she agreed, and told me to come back after 4pm. I paid $ 18, worth it for the quality and speed. Plus I got the dress super cheap, so I didn’t mind paying. The hem was secure and the length was perfect.

As a student at UCI, I come here whenever I need my pants hemmed because it’s close an convenient. I have a shorter build and since pants are never made in my inseam, I usually need to get them hemmed to get a perfect fit. At first I was hesitant to get them done at an alteration place just because I don’t usually trust someone else with my clothes, but it was my only option.
The jobs that they’ve done are decent, but it always seems like the finished product is shorter than what it looked like when they were marked to get hemmed. 3 stars for the convenience for a UCI student, but no more because of their inconsistency.

I went to Eriks a few weeks ago on a friday evening to drop off a great BCBG dress that I want to wear for a wedding. It had a sleeve on one arm and a thin strap on the other, but I wanted to remove the sleeve so itwas just a 2 inch strap. The woman who helped me assured me that they could accomplish this. It was ready on Monday after 4pm as promised and it was absolutely perfect. I was hesitant to leave a $ 400 dress, but I couldn’t be happier with the final result. I’ll definitely be back! Oh and it only cost $ 15 for the sleeve alteration :)

Horrible service. I came in to get a top altered to fit and when I walked in all the lady did was stick some pins, then when I tried to remove the top I couldn’t because the pins kept poking my skin. When I let the short haired Asian lady know she took out the pins and just replaced them with safety pins. I pick it up a week later and it’s exactly the same as when I first brought the shirt in! I asked her to show me where the alterations were made, and explained that the shirt was still loose and the same. She tells me that be because I couldn’t get out of my top before she had to «adjust» it. Horrible service, I was clearly displeased with the result and she didn’t do anything to acknowledge my concerns or apologize. Never coming back here again

I was charged $ 25 to have a three layer trench coat with a storm flap shortened about 5 inches. I should have known from the low price, abrupt fitting process and the manner in which the woman brushed off my questions («Are you sure it’s only $ 25 since it’s lined?» «Can you replicate the hem?»). If you take the integrity, durability and detail of your clothes seriously (and you really don’t have to, so disregard if this doesn’t apply to you), please steer clear of this place. I only went here out of convenience, and would advise They did a fine, slightly crooked, job on a pair of jeans for $ 15 — though they discarded the original hem. For more complicated jobs, they’re completely out of their depth.
I picked my trench coat up today (4 days later) and it looks like the bottom 6 inches of the coat was just trimmed off with a rotary cutter, the lining was ripped apart from the shell, and the «hem» was just folded over and sewn closed with a serger. All of the fabric edges were left raw and worse yet, the lining was not sewn back together — leaving it hanging down past the bottom of the coat. As soon as I noticed, I went back, put the coat on in front of the two women in the store and their jaws dropped. It was bad enough that they wordlessly took it back and fixed it on the spot, albeit with a safety pin, and a few sloppy stitches to sew the loose flaps of lining to each other.
2 stars: 1 compulsory star: at least it was only $ 25, though the coat is butchered. I added 1 star since I didn’t have to fight them on the second band-​aid repair on the first alteration, but the first alteration was completely unacceptable. They’re weren’t unfriendly about it — and I would never get irate at them given their limitations, but would not recommend anyone get anything but the most rudimentary alterations here.

I am not going back here ever again. First time, they did a good job. 2^nd and 3^rd time, not so good. I had to ask them to re-​do it and no service with a smile. Nothing but attitude from the vietnamese lady. She ruined the «original hem» on my true religion jeans and she claims it’s still the original when clearly it is not!
