Ice Rink at Irvine Spectrum Center

Had a blast here in Monday ¹⁄₁₈. It was a holiday so the ice was pretty packed. My daughter, 11, ice skates for the first time. They had a couple of workers skating around to make sure no one got out of hand and to pick up the numerous kids (mostly) but also occasional adult who tumbled onto the ice. By the time my daughter finished skating, she was off the wall and able to move very slowly for about 30 – 40 feet at a time without falling.
Overall, it was a very good experience. It only gets 4 stars because it was good and not quite great. I do look forward to returning in the fall/​winter when it (hopefully) will return.

The ice rink at the Irvine spectrum is small; but, a magical place if you want it to be. If you’re not an experienced ice skater; and want to have a little winter fun; skating this small rink is an excellent light-​hearted; full of giggles; joyful experience for an hour. The Rink Staff are very vigilant and are always offering a friendly hand to skaters that have fallen. If you’re a hot-​dog skater; the staff will slow you down; and you’re not going to enjoy your time on the ice at this location. For those experienced skaters, go to: Aliso rink; Yorba rink; Lake Forest rink; or Anaheim rinks.
In my opinion, these are the people that will enjoy this small cozy rink: new first time skaters; young children interested in new experiences with their friends; young lovers learning and spending time with one another; Teen girls seem to have the most fun. And just listening to their happy voices as a spectator will put a smile on any Grinch’s face.

I CAUTION anyone who is used to skating with figure skates that they only offer hockey skates or poor quality and way too wide for even a normal width woman’s or child’s foot. We let the staff know that we were leaving after 15 minutes and they encouraged this post but not a refund. Obviously we weren’t trying to get something for free if within 15 minutes we were leaving. $ 57 for 3 people to drive an hour to skate for 15 mins was very disappointing.

Really love this place so nice at night time. i always walk here my self thinking a lots of thoughts and prayers. Wishing I find my future gf here

It was pricy but it was worth it because you can skate when ever you want from the morning to 11 pm! Even if you go out and come back, you can skate again if you still have your pass! They also have a seasonal pass for $ 200 per person!!!

unfriendly staff, and high prices. Old skates rentals that were in poor conditions. Pick another place if possible.
Recommend they make some changes and upgrades

This place is awesome! Great staff! However, I could not give them 5 stars because
1. They did not offer a ice scooters for small children to learn on. I was told by a very helpful employee that «it is their policy that they don’t provide ice scooters after 5pm.» I did not question any further because nothing that an employee can do about it.
2. $ 18.50 with skates provided for 1 hour, versus $ 15 with skates provided for 2 hours, at other similar places.

Two star rating because for the price you pay ($ 18.50), the skates should all be sharpened daily. I skated with my kids the first session of the day and the skates were so dull that it made it hard to stand on the ice, and I’m an experienced skater. Dull skates for beginners are more dangerous making wipeouts more prevalent and it’s nearly impossible for anyone to learn how to skate. This place needs to get it together and sharpen their skates daily or on-​demand.
Other than the skate sharpening problem, it’s fun to skate outside when it’s 80°.

This rink Awful! it is tiny, the skates are not sharp, which makes them hard to wear. If you are a beginner, stay way because the ice is not shaved, with the worst skates and a rink where everybody is holding on to the side railings. You end up paying $ 17 to standing in a line holding the railings around a cramped rink. All the while the owner is counting his cash ! Have fun!

This review is obviously way way overdue, but I’m going to do it anyway. It’s interesting how this rink is outdoor with a tent over it, but it’s about 70 degrees outdoors. The indoor rinks are a lot colder than this one. Anyway, there wasn’t a lot of people here on the last few days they are open in February but it still felt crowded since it was so small. The ice was also pretty choppy like it had not been shaved for a while and the skates definitely need sharpening and an update. I realize this is common within rinks, but if I’m going to be paying $ 16 for this, I expect better quality. I can walk the mall and feel the same breeze go by.

Great for beginners. Small enough for the kiddies to do there thing while Mom & dad sip hot chocolate and snap those great pics. Rink small enough you cold see them the whole time. Ref’s did not allow crazy skaters so it was perfect! Kids had a great time and we will be back.

Bring a bumper with you cause shit gets crazy! It is a pretty tiny rink, with the ice all jacked up and it gets packed out there with everyone not knowing how to skate. But if you can get past that, and realize you are ice skating in Irvine outside, it is okay. The rentals are just that. You aren’t going to get a pair of skates that are sharp, so plan on having no edge when you get out there. It felt almost like a piece of tape was stuck to the bottom of each blade dragging you each time you tried to propel yourself forward.
Two stars for the ice and size of it. If they had taken care of it better then maybe it would have been a little bit more fun. If you haven’t done it before, I would pass. There are far better places to go ice skating at. **cough** Disney behhhemm ahheme.

Winter is here and the Skate Spectrum is back! Just like any other pop up pick your skate time and grab some skates.
I like coming to skate rinks because it’s fun to watch the newbs grab on the walls for dear life. I’m comfortable on skates so I just zoom on by. Just remember to keep them skates tight for stability, bend your knees, and wear longer socks. Have fun and realize falling is OK (just protect those hands).

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we were looking for a place to take our tween ice skating. As a former hockey player, my partner is a fan of the ice rink in Anaheim, but they were inexplicably closed, so we opted for the Spectrum to make a day of it. I thought it was going to be mad crowded because of the holiday and Black Friday, so we went when it opened at 11am. It was much less crowded than expected, perhaps because at that time there were very few teenagers and most of the adults were there with young children who didn’t end up skating very long. But that made it much more comfortable for tentative first-​timers like our tween.
I thought they were going to kick us off the ice at 12:15 because the times are displayed as intervals, but they just let everyone keep skating, so we ended up staying until 1pm, which made the $ 17 price tag per person more worthwhile. $ 14 to skate and $ 3 for the rental, all hockey skates, which pleased my partner. They played upbeat Christmas songs, which was fine the first hour, but they repeated the second hour (which was probably an indication that our time was up).
The rink is small, it’s a bit pricey, the ice melted quickly (it was one of those warm OC afternoons), and it’s beneath a tent, which curtails the pleasure of being outside. On the other hand, it’s great for kids, it’s a nice diversion if you’re at the Spectrum already, and I can see it being a good place to leave dad and the kids while you shop.

This was so much fun. The price was good and I was pooped when I came out. I’ve already gone there twice and I still have no complaint. I recommend this for experienced people or kids older than 12. I love how they have music and lights on

Super crowded so you won’t be able to skate around fast! Better off going to the Anaheim ice skating rink! Its $ 14 for weekdays and $ 16 for weekends! Cheaper and bigger at Anaheim ice skating rink.

This is a very small skating rink in the middle of the Irvine Spectrum over by the Macy’s. It’s a little on the more expensive side…$ 14 + skate rental for a 1 ½ hour session. The skates are good though, on the newer side. Great location, could definitely spend the entire day there.

Brittany P and I decided to rock some time on the ice. The problem is, we’re not exactly Scott Hamilton and Kristi Yamaguchi. The good thing is they have a good setup over there and the rink is small enough that there isn’t too much room to get lost. The small rink is conversely the only problem with the whole setup… When it’s busy you’re being fallen upon and dragged to the ice by dive-​bombing non-​skaters like a lifeguard in a pool being dragged to the bottom by a panicked and flailing drowning victim.
Other than the crowding, we had a great time. We didn’t seem to draw the attention of any NHL scouts or Olympic coaches, but we will certainly be back next year when they freeze the water and rent the skates!!!

Jesse D. and I went ice skating last night after weeks of me begging. I kept telling him how awesome I am on the ice… remembering how I could have become a professional ice skater back in the day. You know, jumps, turns and spins galore! I used to rock it on the ice as a kid. Showing off to everyone in the rink… making all the uncoordinated kids jealous. So finally, after weeks of begging and BRAGGING about how awesome I am, we decide to drive on out to the Spectrum and walk on over to the ferris wheel to get our skate on!
The ice rink is relatively small (compared to the rinks I’m used to). It was $ 28.00 for both of us to skate, including the skate rental. That gets you 75 minutes, uninterrupted skate time. After paying and getting our tickets, which are stickers you have to wear on your clothing, we walked over to get our skates then get laced up! I started to get nervous walking in my skates and onto the rink. Jesse D? Not nervous at all. He jumped on the ice and was skating all over the god damn place. I was in awe. He stepped on the ice and was immediately doing spins and turns and skating his ASS off. Me? I nervous stepped on the ice, clawing at the wall to give me support while I very cautiously took tiny small skate-​steps. Yeah… what an IDIOT. I don’t know what happened, but I guess in the eight years off the ice, I lost all that skill I remembered having. haha! After some playful teasing, pro-​skater Jesse D. took my hand and pulled me around with him. After that, I was back on my game. Elegantly skating and turning. See! I knew I could do it… I just had to get back in my groove!
It was a very fun time! Even for Jesse D. I highly recommend ice skating at the Spectrum to anyone looking for a bit of holiday fun :)
My only complaint is that the rink is a bit small, so when it gets busier, it is a bit cramped. Still fun though. Loved it!
