Established in 1984.

BMS Paper Company is a family-​owned business, which is fast becoming a rarity as businesses are swallowed up by conglomerates. Started by Robert Harrington in 1984, BMS originally operated with one man and a car. It quickly grew into a brick & mortar in Jamaica Plain. In 1994, BMS moved into its current JP location, operating its own fleet of trucks and a large retail outlet offering everything from restaurant supplies and janitorial products, to catering essentials and party goods. Our area of service and delivery has expanded to include the Greater Boston Area, Rhode Island, Cape Cod, and Southern Massachusetts. Proud of its history and success, BMS continues to expand its services, expertise, and products lines to better serve our customers

BMS is so weird. And so awesome. Things I have purchased here:
— a perfectly sized ice cream scoop (twice, actually. don’t put it in the dishwasher. lesson learned)
— little square cocktail plastic cup thingies to scoop ice cream into
— little plastic spoons to eat aforementioned ice cream
— plastic containers of varying sizes to which I will then put pestos and tomato sauce in and put in my chest freezer
— candles like you see in cheesy Italian restaurants
— giant bottles of vinegar
— dozens of plain white square plates
— dozens of plain white oval plates (multi course dinner party means lots of plates for lots of people)
— new year’s eve party shit
— pot scrubber
— Cheerios
— little white boxes
— various other random stuff
Things I have not purchased here, but could maybe come in handy at some point:
— giant cans of food
— giant container of reeses peanut butter — like, the dessert kind
— giant fucking pots
— all the cleaning supplies
— so many plastic utensils/​plates
— bar supplies
— balloons
— non-​plastic utensils, including things like giant ladles and spatulas
And all of it? Seriously cheap. Like, «are you sure you rang everything up» kinda cheap. It’s a wonderland of awesome, cheap stuff. Most of which you don’t need, but also with stuff you didn’t know you needed until you saw it here.

My husband and I catered our own budget wedding (.. .. yeah) and this place was a fantastic resource. We bought serving utensils for food and drink, pans that kept the food hot, cake stands for our cupcakes, and probably more things that I’m forgetting. I have always had great experiences here. Once you are familiar with what they have (and many other reviewers here have given a fantastic overview of this) you will think of them again and again. I am always happy when someone in JP asks me things like, «Where could I walk to buy some plastic tablecloths?» because I get to direct them to BMS Paper Co.

This place in a nutshell is wonderful. I really liked it as it was fairly cheap and a great one stop shop for all your party needs. ESPECIALLY if you are having a rather large party and are going to be doing most of the work. They have everything in there from tablecloths to baking supplies. They have utensils, dry food products, pizza boards everything! I encourage you to go here. The parking lot is a little small so go early!

I have found a lot of baking supplies in bulk amounts here and the prices were good, although most items cost less at Restaurant Depot. They also have a good selection of pots, pans, and food preparation equipment of all types in the back. I’ve been able to find items here that I couldn’t find anywhere else, such as ¾ sheet pans. It’ worth the 25 mile trip for me.

They were so nice — even donating to a non-​profit request I made without any hesitation!

2) Home-​based caterers
3) Picnic organizers
4) Frat party organizers
5) Clam-​bake organizers (see: 20 gallon pots)
6) People who use dried herbs and ground spices
7) People who hate Williams-​Sonoma
8) People who want to furnish their kitchen like a NJ diner
9) People who like portraits of Barack Obama
10) People who like ketchup… a lot
BMS is not perfect for:
1) Racists who have never been to Jamaica Plain
2) People looking for more «advanced» baking goods (i.e. large quantities of bread or cake flour)
3) People looking for lots of brown sugar
4) People looking for anything high-​end or exotic
5) People looking for good deals on pots of pans
6) Most restaurants looking for a one-​stop shop. [Personally, if I end up owning my own restaurant, I would come here for «secondary» items like ladles and sifters].

Recently, I went to buy some pie shells at BMS. They sell 5 for $ 7.99, which is pretty good, I think. I made a cherry pie with one of them and it turned out great! For a pre-​made crust, it’s quite tasty. I also picked up a deep dish apple pie (Chef Pierre brand) for ten bucks. It was pretty good and more convenient than slicing my own apples but honestly, my pie fillings taste better. So, check out the pie shells! They’re in the freezer section in the first aisle near the door.

Okay… this is a restaurant supply store… A RESTAURANT SUPPLY STORE… not Ikea or a consumer kitchen supply store. For anyone looking for normal sized pans… maybe you would be better off at Williams-​Sonoma… but if you are looking for a giant container of ketchup or 30 slotted spoons… this is your place.
I got a set of 16 tiny espresso cups for $ 24… can’t beat that with a stick! I also go here to stock up on bar ware like the kind they use at real bars… the plain metal tins that I keep leaving at parties when I am the default bartender in attendance.
Stuff like that abounds. They do often sell out of the super popular stuff, but you are competing with local restaurants, sorry… but they might need 2 giant boxes of pre sized aluminum foil more than you do… so I don’t get mad if they happen to be out, they will have it back in stock within days.
It is true… you get what you pay for, so look the item over before you buy it if you expect quality or longevity.
Know what you are going into… and you will be happy.

I came here in search of a few pots, pans, plates, bowls and utensils for my new apartment. Let me just say, if you’re looking to stock up a small kitchen for the use of one or two people, or unless you’re looking to feed a giant group of people, this is NOT the place to go.
pots and pans were NOT cheap at all. i felt that i could comfortably bathe in a lot of the pots and pans they carried. the few appropriately sized pots and pans were priced well above $ 30 apiece, and lids were NOT included in the price for most items. real stainless steel utensils are not even on display — and you only can purchase utensil items in units of 20 from behind the counter. they had an extremely poor and tiny selection of porcelain and glass plates and bowls.
the few appropriately sized food items had worse unit prices than stop and shop. i would not recommend this to anyone who isn’t looking to stock up a large, heavy-​duty kitchen that will serve many people.

I first received a recommendation to go to BMS Paper Supply last summer from a woman in a cupcake class I took through the BCAE. She was a mother of 6 who cooked all organic so I trusted her awesomeness. And boy howdy was she right. This place is located in a semi-​shady area, better to get here by car if you can.
BMS is a wall to wall, ceiling to floor culinary heaven. You can get anything from a 21 cup muffin tin pan (check) to 100 bamboo skewers for $ 1 (check) to a gallon of lemon juice (check), pastry/​cake boxes of all sizes (check), tiny meatloaf tins (check), any utensil you could imagine (check). Just go, if not to wander around with your mouth agape.

If you want to open up a restaurant, show up here with two grand and you’re all set. This store has everything from bulk canned corn to tubs of Ken’s salad dressing to plates to saucepots that could double as bathtubs.
I picked up a stainless steel baking sheet, a strainer, a set of tongs, and two plates for $ 20. I could’ve easily spent another $ 50 on pizza trays, twenty pounds of tuna and bathroom signs. The selection is incredible, they have everything.
Service wasn’t bad either. Worth a trip if you want to deck out your kitchen.

Sometimes you need 5 pounds of canned chick peas. Or little jars of brown mustard. Fourth-​of-​July themed paper products. Maybe some little red and white paper french fry baskets or a blue wine glass for a neat birthday gift?
They’ve got that.
I stumbled upon this place because I am a JP-​head and it’s a good thing I did, because I own a restaurant: I go in a lot to get my own stuff because it opens early and it’s fun to ramble in and Al and friends are super nice to me.
They also deliver and businesses can open up an account. If going this route, be specific about what you want– they’ve messed up once or twice but they fix it the next day.
***Also good for low budget party planning– lots of colorful table clothes, inexpensive kitchen supplies, cocktails mixes, etc.
Oh they take Amex now– I like that.

Just past Doyles as you head towards Egelston square. This store is for restaurants and caterers but is open to the public so you can buy gear and food at wholesale prices. Huge selection of good stuff cheap, I do some household shopping there too.
