After the brewery tour we stopped in to grab some beer to bring home. We grabbed some of the Samuel Adams Barrell Brews as well as a limited edition brew that we had tried earlier at the tasting portion of our tour. In addition to beer there was a lot of merchandise available for sale. We grabbed some coasters, magnets, glasses, and bottle openers to bring back to NY for our friends. The line was a bit long but there were three cashiers so it moved pretty quickly. They accept both cash and credit. The pack your items well in a signature Samuel Adams shopping bag. The bottles are wrapped with foam to ensure they don’t break or bang against one another. There is a cardboard cut out of Sam Adams near the exit so you can take a bunch of silly pics with it on your way out. If the parking lot is full street parking isn’t so bad even on weekends. We parked about two blocks away near the residential area.

I went here for my birthday. A cool place, I like Sam adams. The tour was like 2 bucks or something… it was a rip off IMO. The place is so corporate. They don’t even tour a working brewery it’s just«where sam got their start» I don’t give a crap about that. Then the tasting. They have you taste a few crappy beers. Like experiments that nothing will ever happen with. Like this weird unfiltered wheat beer, where they used a certain yeast to produce the banana off flavored esters. It was like they made this garbage, and had to get rid of it somehow. So corporate it was disappointing. I went two years ago as of this review and I’m still PO’ed.

I came here with for a brew tour. The tour itself is super short and doesn’t give you much insight to how they make their beer(at least not visually). The rest of the tour is sitting in the tasting room drinking beer which is never a bad thing. Be warned, the staff is very strict about making people go on the tour and not just going to the tasting room. We went with my father in law who is not to stead on his feet and basically had to beg them to let him meet up with us in the tasting room. Parking is also very limited,

I came here once to do a brewery tour, and once for an open house. The brewery tour was really interesting. They take you through the brewery and show you the whole brewing process. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny, and made it a very entertaining experience. At the end, they give you three samples of the beer in these nifty little collector’s glasses. One of the beers we tried was new and hadn’t been released yet, so it was really neat to have the opportunity to taste it first. The open house was also great, but it was less of an experience, and more of a chance to just try some different beers. Basically, it was free beer and cookies(which were very good). There wasn’t a tour or anything to go along with it. We did get to try a couple of beers that we hadn’t had before — an Imperial Stout and the Farmhouse Ale, and the cookies, made by Haiku Bakery were delicious. I would definitely recommend going out there to do a tour. The open house is good if you happen to be in the area, but it’s not really something to go out of your way for. Both the open house and the tour are free. It’s really nice that Boston Beer takes the time to put these together.

I’ve been a sucker for Sam Adams since my dad let me have a sip of his Cream Stout when I was 9.(Thank you, and yet, shame on you, Dad.). The Brewery in Jamaica Plain gives tours Mon-Sat. I went for the first time on a beautiful Saturday morning in October. Of course, the place was mobbed. But, I only had to wait 45 minutes or so for the next tour, AND there’s a conveniently located café in a nearby building, so I was able to have a small nosh. The tour was informative and held my interest. My tour guide looked like the«Mac» guy from the Apple commercials. He told a lot of bad jokes, but he gave a good tour. At the conclusion of the tour, my group was led into a pub-like room where we were served(free!) samples of three types of beer in a souvenier sample glass. Five stars for a FREE tour with FREE beer and a FREE sample glass.

Went on tour with my in-laws and we had great time. The JP location is not some big beer factory, it is their R&D lab, so don’t expect anything huge. Come for some learning and FREE beer. I had such a great time, that I am making this a regular stop for any of my out-of-town guests Why not 5 stars… I was expecting to get a bit more elaborate demo of beer-making process. But that is OK, I am geek and I usually expect more details than most people.

I have been on this tour more often than one reasonably should — it often serves as a precursor to a day at Fenway or something else fun in town. I could actually give the tour at this point… but a good tour it is, which is what keeps us coming back. They show you the ingredients, take you through the brewing process then into a pub to sample 3 different types of beer. Because its the research and development facility for BBC, you don’t see a huge brewery like you might at Anheiseur Busch or Redhook, but its still good and educational. Unlike some breweries, you can’t buy their beer there either, but they will tell you where to get some, and suggest Doyle’s down the street to eat at(which is very very good as well). You also get to take home a souveneir sample glass(collect all 4, which we’ve done twice over). Tour guides basically give them same speech, same jokes, but for a first timer or an out of towner, its a good good time. Parking is extremely limited in the brewery and its not the best neighborhood in the world, so take your valuables with you… Oh yeah, the tour is free!

Somehow, I’ve never gotten out to JP to do this tour, but I just heard that the Milky Way is going to move here and they’ll be sort of combining. I love this idea and can’t wait to see it come to fruition. I have had great experience working with Sam Adams — they’re donating beer to a fundraising event I’m planning, and they have been so willing/responsive it’s almost surprising they’re such a major company.

While a little out of the way and randomly placed the brewery is definitely worth the trip! The tour guide was knowledgeable about the brewing process and very generous with the tastings! Also, as silly as it sounds I got a huge kick out of the beer themed scratch-and-sniff postcards you can send your friends from the brewery.
