I’ve lived in jersey city, right up the street from this gem and I never noticed! My boyfriend and I discovered it a few weeks ago and we have been back a dozen times since. I am Jamaican and Haitian and my boyfriend is Trinidadian and afro american so we are used to and crave traditional Caribbean Flavors(eh eh see what I did there? did you get it?). We have had the curried chicken, duck, and goat all were outstanding. We’ve had the roasted pork which is UNBELIEVABLE! We have tried the doubles, delicious, the buss up shot roti, the best, and the bakes with salt fish and cabbage. Though the bakes are a bit greasy they are worth it with the perfect level of salt and heat with a little tamarind sauce it is the perfect snack or light lunch. The woman behind the counter is warm and inviting and really just wants to serve you good food. She will let you have a taste if you are unsure, she makes all the baked goods while her husband and sons man the grill and the meat. Speaking of meat, I have had jerked chicken all over the metro ny area from flatbush to harlem to teaneck nj and I have not had jerked chicken as good as this since I was in Montego Bay at a jerk shack. We are obsessed and don’t get me started on the rum cake. If you haven’t been you better get your behind here ASAP! This is like my new family and taste of home since I am so far from my own.

The owners couldn’t be kinder, helping us fairly Caribbean attuned gringos with the(copious volume of) selections. Prices are dirt cheap, food is damn good, and we always leave with containers of free food that tantalize the taste buds throughout the week. The curry mango, dahl, pumpkin and eggplant are absolute must tries. As is the dahl-puri. Sure, throw in the callaloo. And curry shrimp. In addition to the stew chicken. I can go on. Please ignore me as I wipe up the drool from my keyboard.

The place is under new management and is now called David & Son’s Caribbean Flavor. The food here is amazing and you should give it a try. The owners are very nice and they take time to educate you about stuff. I’m Trinidadian, and I know good Trinidadian food. This is good Trinidadian food.

On average, the doubles have been more successful than the main dishes. The chicken doesn’t knock me out but it’ll do if you can’t get to Brooklyn or Queens at the moment. The vegetable rice is really good, as is the hot sauce in the small plastic cups.

They have real doubles!!! Although that says it all, I will add that this is EXCELLENT Trini food. WIth a smile I might add. My Trini father and granny wouldn’t mind eating here at all!!! This is much better than Nicole’s in Downtown Jersey City.

This place is like a party for my taste buds. From the different curry choices like chicken, goat, duck and shrimp to the awasomely spiced jerk chicken. This is Trini home cooking at its best. The owners and staff are friendly and always offer something new to try. Most of the more common dishes are always available with a few specialties added randomly, like the awasome pepper shrimp. Also available are rotis, doubles, and on certain days various soups. This place also makes the best hottest home made hot sauce to spice up your meal, if you dare. A small Caribbean food take out place that serves up some seriously delicious home cooked style food.
