The penne with pulled chicken is the latest favorite. Shared with coworkers as an app and then as my choice of brunch item during Father’s day. The beaux has the short rib and inhaled it.

UNLIMITEDMIMOSAS&BELLINIS = The main reason why we came here for a brunch birthday party. We made reservations for a large group at 11:30 am at this location. I was a little hesitant to come here, since JC parking can be a nightmare, but Fire & Oak validates for the huge lot next to the Westin(the hotel they’re attached to.) I believe it’s the mall parking structure. This brunch menu was amazing, normally I can very easily narrow down what I want, but everything looked and sounded really good! I almost went with the Fire & Oak burger, but settled on the steak and eggs. It did not disappoint! The steak was cooked perfectly and the chimichurri sauce was a nice touch. My only complaint was I wish that there was more steak. Everyone in the group said their food was delicious. Our sever was really attentive and not stingy with the unlimited drinks. If you chose the unlimited option, it’s only $ 12 and last two hours. She was also really great when it came to splitting up checks. Overall this is a great brunch spot in JC!

Came to F&O for brunch today. We sat at the bar not knowing what to expect. There was only one bartender so we weren’t sure if we’d get much attention but Rose was amazing! We both ordered the bottomless champagne cocktails and she was very attentive in refilling. Everyone around us was very happy with their service… and it was a lot for one person to handle but she was wonderful. The crab cake salad and brunch BLT were amazing and the service was even better. Hope to come back here every Sunday.

We had dinner here last night with my father-in-law, the steaks we had were some of the best I’ve had in Jersey City. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the service. This was our first time here and hopefully next time the experience will be better. The service was slow, the waiter spilled water when delivering our meal, I had to get up and ask for steak sauce and a spoon for my wife. Then to top it off the bill was incorrect overcharging me for 2 drinks totaling $ 23.

Nice décor and ambiance, good food, terrible service. Came here with a party of 8 to celebrate a friends birthday. When we got there our table wasn’t ready despite having a reservation and being on time. That’s where it all started… When we sat down we noticed one of the tables was unbalanced and asked more than once for it to be fixed or changed. We ended up just doing it ourselves. We asked the server for water for the table, never got it(and we were there for a few hours and asked repeatedly). There online menu is outdated making it very difficult for my gluten free friend to order since none of the gluten free items they advertised were available. Everything we ordered came out wrong. I honestly don’t believe it was the waiters fault. He was patient, attentive and very apologetic for all the mistakes that seemed to be coming from the kitchen. He eventually asked the manager to stop at our table and explained all the problems but still nothing was corrected. The manager asked again for the gluten free order and again it came out wrong(with bread on the same plate and without the seafood they said they would add). Despite all this mess, the food that actually did come to the table was really really good making it very hard to be upset at all the mistakes. Finally we asked for a specific dessert to be brought out with a candle for the birthday boy and again they sent something else. Not sure what was happening in the kitchen that night but don’t think I will be going back to Fire and Oak anytime soon.

Stopped here for dinner with my mother and brother for a late Mother’s Day dinner. Made reservations for 630, but definitely were not necessary for a weekday evening at that time. Even when we were finishing up dinner(~8pm) it was getting fuller, but they have so many tables for seating both indoor and outdoor that there was plenty of space available. Maybe for weekends a reservation would be needed. Service was very friendly and attentive, always keeping an eye on empty water glasses, explained all of the specials for the evening and did his best to accommodate adding a crab cake onto her salad instead of grilled chicken. Even though one dish came out earlier than the other, eventually they were both served. I ordered the seven spice seared tuna with noodles and veggie stir fry and I don’t have one complaint about it; cooked to my selected liking(rare, sushi grade). Mom ordered the garden salad which looked very big and filling and brother got the french dip sandwiches with sweet potato fries(even got to sample, yum). For dessert, we all shared the warm brownie sundae which was just perfect for 3 people and was absolutely delish(one of my absolute favorite desserts). Mom has had the NY cheesecake in the past and raved about it, but went with the brownie cause she knows her daughter well :) Highly recommend for dinner, also has nice looking lounge and bar area if you’re just looking for some drinks.

Yum! A friend and I enjoyed Sunday brunch here. Ambiance is nice and the waitstaff are really friendly and nice. I went for the bottomless bellinis while he went for the bottomless mimosas. For my main, I had the eggs benedict with the addition of lox. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the serving size was generous, and the home fries were great. My friend went for the french toast with bananas foster. He generously allowed me a taste and it was so good. This place isn’t necessarily worth going out of the way for the dining experience, but if you’re in the area, it’s worth a visit.

Well, where do I start??? I mean, this place is just AMAZING. This Is a second review I’m leaving for fire & oak. because I went there on my birthday 4÷13÷2016, and the experience was BETTERTHANTHE1st. First — Arrival Upon entering at 9:30pm we were greeted by a beautiful hostess who seated us immediately since we had reservations. Second — Waitress Our waitress was okay. On a scale from 1 – 10 with service and politeness I’ll give her a 4. We barely saw her. She took our drink order then food and that was it. It was not as great As our first experience with the male who’s name I mentioned in my first review who was super diligent and attentive. Lastly, Food/Drinks The food was amazing. I mean it was 100times better than the 1st time. My boyfriend and I ordered lobster Mac and cheese, wings, mashed potatoes and ribs, crab cakes(which is the best I ever tasted in the world) and the shrimp and lobster mean in lobster sauce. We also had two alcoholic drinks that were so bomb. The food was fresh and hot. It tasted like it was made with so much love, WOW. It was perfect. I mean, every single dish was perfection. I can’t complain about anything. I LOVETHISPLACE. It’s my ABSOLUTEFAVORITE.

Great service and awesome food and even drinks. Portions are more than sufficient. Not giving a 5 coz our server kept coming back more than needed when we wanted some private time. Ordered loaded potato which was just perfect in taste and texture; hummus plate which was decent and tomato soup which seemed right out a can.

So My lady and I came here for the second time. The first time did not work out well. Poor service and when they brought out our entrees was when they advised my girlfriend that they were out of her order. Why do that then? Terrible. And then my brother got sick too. The owner, Errick, went out of his way to make it up to us and apologize. We decided to give this place a second chance and Errick really hit it out of the park! Some drinks to start(Macallan 18 and martini). We ordered for apps the seafood trio, Caesar salad and shrimp cocktail(which was served with avocado and green apples — good stuff!!). I ordered the NY strip and she ordered the scallop and shrimp dish. Both were fantastic! Errick was kind enough to sit down and talk with us and in my opinion he really cares and he is very knowledgeable. I truly appreciated the efforts made. This place is delicious. Very good food, good drinks and an owner who cares about the little things while there to create a nice enjoyable environment. I will be going back again!

Let me first start off by saying… NAILEDIT!!! We decided to give this place another try to replace our former bitter image of the major fail during our last dinner here. We walked in for our 8:30pm reservation on Saturday and was greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us promptly upon arrival. We were served by Janine-an absolute doll who knows exactly what superb service entails. We started out with some scotch and vodka. We had something to eat just a couple hours prior, making it difficult to devour every single dish floating our way. The appetizers — Caesar salad and the seafood trio — were perfect. I especially liked the shrimp cocktail that had a surprising combo of green apples and sprouts — an unlikely yet delightful match. The seafood was fresh and the salad was crispy, tossed in a perfect amount of dressing. Now to our entrees: we ordered the jumbo scallops and shrimps and a medium cooked NY Strip Steak with a side of Asian stir-fried vegetables(you get to pick your sides– 1 of at least 5 at the bottom of the menu). The scallops and shrimp dish had an abundant amount of garlic, just the way I like my seafood cooked. My recommendation to Fire&Oak would be to add less salt to everything. My dish was on the salty side, but otherwise, the presentation and the taste were both deserving of some high fives. I hear the steak was perfectly cooked with an exquisite amount of juice flowing out onto the plate — food porn. We had the absolute pleasure of meeting the owner, Errick. Errick brought us some red wine to compliment our entrees– what an amazingly kind gesture. We appreciated his presence and business manners, as well as his friendly approach to the world of restaurant business. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Fire&Oak and Errick deserves the utmost praise for his undying dedication to making sure that all patrons leave full and happy. I’ll definitely be back for more and I’ll be recommending this place to anyone who wants a good date night corner or a gathering. Hope it gets added to OpenTable soon!

**WINTER2016RESTAURANTWEEKREVIEW** My boyfriend and I wanted to try out Hudson Restaurant Week. We decided on Fire & Oak because it was close by and we didn’t want to travel too far. $ 40 during RW will get you an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Here is what we ordered: Appetizers — I had the tuna tartar tacos. These were three(very) mini hard taco shells filled with a good amount of tuna, with avocado, tomatoes, and green onion — drizzled with some kind of mayo. I wasn’t a fan of the mayo but other than that, it was pretty good. The tuna tasted fresh so no complaints there. He had lobster bisque. Not even sure if I there was any lobster in there because all I tasted was loads of butter. Mains — I went with the shrimp & jumbo lump crabmeat pasta(linguini, gulf shrimp, crabmeat, bacon, hazelnuts, lobster cream sauce). This was really good but pretty oily, so you’ll start feeling full pretty quickly. I actually didn’t realize how oily it was was until I had the leftovers for lunch the next day and there was a pool of it on the bottom. Other than that, the pasta was al dente, and there was a lot of crabmeat in there. My boyfriend said the sauce tasted like his lobster bisque, so it made us wonder if what he ate earlier was really soup or not… He ordered the full rack of ribs, which comes with cole slaw and french fries. He didn’t want anything fried so he asked to substitute it for mashed potatoes. Our waiter told us they don’t normally do subs for RW, but he was able to do it anyway — so that was nice. The ribs were alright, but the cole slaw was great. It was refreshing. But then again, I have a weird thing for cole slaw. Desserts — there were only two desserts to choose from — tiramisu, and warm molten chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream, so we ordered one of each. The tiramisu wasn’t anything great but it wasn’t bad. It tasted like tiramisu you would get at a supermarket. But the chocolate cake was amazing. It came out hot and fudgey and of course, the vanilla ice cream paired perfectly with it. It’s a little too decadent for just one person so if you do decide to order this, I would recommend sharing with someone(even though you might not want to!) As for drinks, we had a bottle of the Salmon Creek chardonnay. Bottles are pretty reasonably priced — you can get a bottle for about $ 30. I would come back to Fire & Oak and try some of their other dishes. Plus, they have $ 1 oyster happy hour, I believe M-F 5 – 7. Another plus is that they have boozy brunch on the weekends, so I’ll deffo be back to try that!

My girlfriend and went here for New Years and it was nothing short but an amazing experience. It was a pre-fixe meal and the cost depended on entrée of your choosing. Started off with hummus plate that was exquisite. Followed by the filet surf and turf with dynamite lobster mash potatoes. Dessert was a good chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Highly recommend eating at fire and oak whether near the area or staying at the Westin in jersey city.

My boyfriend and I went here for a prix fixe NYE dinner. I had been there for a Unilocal event and loved the food so we figured we’d try it for NYE. Fire & Oak has a cozy and warm feel with fireplaces and very comfortable seating. The prix fixe dinner ranged in price depending on your entrée from $ 50ish for chicken or pasta to $ 77 for steak. Food was awesome. I got the tuna tartare for appetizer which was well seasoned and beautifully plated. It was served on top of avocado which was a great combination w/the tuna. Best dish of the night. I also got the salmon served over asparagus and risotto. Delicious broth and a well cooked fish. I chose the warm molten cake for desert which was a good way to end the meal. We had a reservation but were quickly seated. I noticed that a 20% tip was added to our bill automatically due to NYE. However, the service was really uneven. We seemed to have 2 waiters who would appear at random times and then disappear when we wanted them. Service seemed rushed even though the place wasn’t too packed. Entrée came out before we had finished our appetizers and desert came out the second after they cleared our entrée plates. I would have preferred them to give us a bit more time between courses.

It’s a hotel restaurant, therefore valet parking is available. Nice modern atmosphere and location. Went at night, warm ambience, piped in music, cool spot for the romantics. Went many years ago, forgot what we ate but do remember I wasn’t displeased. Service? Guess it was good, don’t recall it being bad. Do recall that I had a great time. I’d go back.

Now this is what I’m talking about. I walked into this place and everyone was sooo welcoming, friendly, even the manager of the restaurant. Everyone was well educated on their beers, food, the way they prepare it. The rib cutter was sooo amazing and really made the experience amazing. There was a waitress who came around and made sure everyone was happy and taken care of. That MIGHT be why when I went to the sushi spot next I wasn’t to thrilled. We KNEW that this place was going to be hard to beat. The food was amazing. The ribs were sooo tasty, the beer was lite, fluffy(yeah something like that), and very cold. The polenta and shredded beef was amazing the flavors with the mushrooms were sooo delicious. I was very excited to eat it. I wanted more, but knew I had sooo much more to eat. This is a great place to hang out at the bar in an after work(dressy or casual dressy look). I also would love to go on a gloomy evening, it was sooo intimate, comfortable and welcoming, I mean it is PART of the Westin, but it was a great place to start off for our Unilocal event.

I came here for a Unilocal event, but I have been to the Montvale location for a full dinner. The Jersey City location just added a short rib mushroom polenta to the menu and I fell in love. First of all why is this just getting to the menu now? I only had a little taste but would appreciate a full appetizer size next time I’m there. They served Weyerbacher autumn fest along with the meal and it was the perfect match. I will be coming back for a regular evening dinner with my guy.

Came here on a dinner date with my boyfriend. Quiet dinner in Jersey City and I had recently given up all hope that this armpit of a place could proffer any decent meals. This place would have to be the saving grace because in my boyfriend’s brief time living in JC, I had the opportunity to sample many food options and I found the vast majority to be crap. This place turned out to be the saving grace, but I will say everything was very well done, but could’ve used a pinch of seasonings(mostly tiny bit of salt and pepper) to bring them totally up to par. But, again, other than that, I have no complaints, but found it to be an interesting theme. Almost seemed like maybe the chef was playing it just a little bit safe? We had a strange encounter walking in because the hostess greeted us and I said, «Hello, how are you?» which she somehow misheard as «Bonjour». In any event, she started speaking French to me, and my boyfriend and I were both very confused as neither of us speak French… when we cleared that up, she picked up two menus and walked us to our table. We started with the kobe beef and veal meatballs, served with fresh ricotta and marinara. The meatballs were very tender, juicy, the marinara was light and the tomatoes were very fresh. We also split a half dozen oysters, but that was a while back and I neglected to specify the kind of oysters in my notes. They were served, however, with a jalapeño mignonette, which was a nice touch. My handsome dinner companion ordered the shrimp and crab linguine with bacon tossed in a lobster cream sauce! I know. Just take a second to let all of those things marinate and really come together in your mind to form the creamy, savory, cheesy dish of shellfish and pasta that I didn’t order for myself. It was very nicely done and I had to bat my eyelashes a dozen times to pry another forkful from his hairy hands! I don’t blame him, it was a damned good pasta. Can’t remember the drinks we ordered, but do remember that I had some berry sort of spritzer with vodka and I didn’t hate it. For my meal i ordered a short rib and scallop surf & turf served with mushroom-truffle risotto and haricot verts. The short rib was slightly less tender than I would have liked, but the flavor was excellent and the scallops were seared to perfection! I would have enjoyed a lot more truffle in the risotto, and in everything else I’ll ever eat in life, but appreciated the subtle enhancement it brought to the dish. Could’ve used more mushrooms instead my mushroom risotto. I feel like I was served risotto with mushrooms and that isn’t the same thing to me. Ditto for that on the truffle factor. Green beans were nicely done and I was too stuffed from oysters and meatballs to finish my dinner, but it did make quite a nice leftover lunch the next day at work. The ambiance in here is really nice. It would be a great place to come for an anniversary or birthday dinner or other nice date. I regret that we walked over my boyfriend still in nice work clothes and me in a cheap romper and flip fops, thinking we were just ordering in and walking to get ice cream. Had I known, I would have dressed more appropriately. The lighting is dim and I think this place is really sexy. Big panels of oak line the walls and there’s a nice waterfall in the front lobby. I really like the set up and there seemed to be a lot of tables and booths, although I didn’t have a proper look around the space. I’d actually come back here and give it another try. If nothing else, this place is bringing decent food to New Jersey, and I know that’s really not easy to come by in certain towns, so thanks.

Liked this place. The ambiance is great, we got the table in patio which was awesome for the weather. The portions are really huge . Best part — $ 12 for unlimited mimosa. The mimosas were great. Will certainly recommend this place for a good, nice leisure brunch !
