Keepers Self Storage

For a short term storage facility– it was what I needed. The staff isn’t over friendly and they won’t go out of their way to make it a great experience, but the facility was large and the prices were reasonable for a downtown JC location that is accessible for trucks.

Can’t speak to the negative reviews, but I had a very positive experience. Rented a Uhaul from this location and dealt with 2 of the office staff. Both were professional, friendly and seemed to genuinely care about the customer.

I just moved out because I no longer need storage. The staff here have been consistently friendly and helpful and overall it was the best storage unit experience I’ve had. If I ever need storage again, I would definitely come back here.

Thought I set up auto pay on my credit card. I was surprised to see an invoice in the mail for my second month so I called to pay the rent over the phone and to make sure auto pay was set up, only to be put into voice mail. I called again the next day, leaving a second message. I called again the next day and left a voice message. I called a fourth and fifth time on day four, leaving more messages. Finally, on the fifth day, I leave a message that was returned! Not very apologetic.
I called twice to let them know that a coworker of mine was swinging by to pick up medical devices in storage and please cut the lock and replace it with a new one. No one called me back!!! My coworker showed up and they would not provide him access or even call me to verify. I could have easily sent an email with a picture of my license for verification. My coworker left and the medical devices were not delivered. Not a great way to conduct business.

Scam artists.
Read the fine print here. You get told one price by phone, another in person.
You have a lot of paperwork to sign, so read it, cause you don’t know what they are adding on.
They throw in a $ 15 administrative fee when you are there, without telling you in advance. When asked what it is for, the staff really cannot provide a good explanation.
You are better off spending extra $$ and going to any reputable establishment.

I made the mistake of not checking out the units before having our movers bring everything over from Manhattan to store. These are not self-​contained units like every other mini-​storage I have used (the big names). The ceiling is completely exposed (though encased by wire fencing) which means all your belonging are exposed to dust, climate changes and leaks from all the pipes that cover the ceiling above. This is not even something we noticed until finding out about a leak. We would have insured ourselves more had we known this. Unfortunately not all of our items were wrapped in plastic and we had several wooden furniture pieces and of course cardboard boxes, so these were affected.
Basically it is just a buyer beware situation in many regards. We booked a unit online for a discounted rate and they gave us one that had a large column sticking out taking up the space. They agreed to slightly discount it because it was not the true sq footage agreed upon. I found the front desk lady helpful and generally polite.
Moral of the story — go check the specific unit you will rent before moving your things over.

This place might need a negative 3 stars. My boyfriend and I have been using this place for a year until we found rats running around the hallways one morning upstairs by our unit. May have been the grossed experience ever!!! Take your belongings out of there, we sure did!

I don’t understand all of the negative reviews. The office people and elevator were fine — I was expecting to be spit on (according to the previous reviews — I guess it matters to be polite and respectful to people).
I’m moving locally and the location is convenient (right by the BJ’s and Shop Wrong). I went with a 5 X 6 for $ 89 a month and the space was perfect for my needs. You can check out the different sizes of units before deciding on which to rent. Be sure to bring your own lock (or you can purchase one for $ 10.60). You can pull up to their loading dock and use their dolleys/​carts. You can also purchase optional insurance (if you are concerned with break-​ins of your valuable hanger collection).

These guys will rip you off — so WATCH OUT!
I rented with them for 2 years and had auto pay every 1^st of the month with my bank. They increased my rent, did not inform me and started charging me late fees on the difference between the oold and new charge. I tried to negotiate but they were unwilling. On move out day, I owed them a total of 3 $ — not only did they charge me for the month ahead — but also a late fee of 15 $ for the 3 $ underage that I owed.
DISGUSTING!!!
I would never go there again.

Keepers Storage is a great place. Awesome and attentive customer service, helpful and prompt attendants, decent rates, clean, well-​lit, safe, convenient hours. I’ve used them twice in the past year and I will continue to use Keepers of Jersey City as needed. Ask for Yolanda the manager for any specific extra needs or grievances and she will work with you. They even use email to keep you updated on billing, as well as mail service. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed using Keepers of Jersey City for all your storage needs.

I have been there for 3 years, and just moved to a bigger space… I thought I was at the Ritz in Paris during this process… Linda, who been helpful in the past, and is a hard working, efficient, and kind„ made a difficult transition very easy. Thanks Linda!

Worst customer service — period! The employees here are L-​A-​Z-​Y, and if you ask a question, they treat you like you are interfering with their time (or more likely, their next game of solitaire). I found this place online and thought it would be OK based on it’s appearance of a good website, plus the special they run to rope in new customers (or suckers, like me I guess). The first problem came when the space that I reserved had a big column take up valuable space running through the unit. I was not happy about it, and told them I wanted another, but the only options they gave me were either a smaller unit (not feasible with the furniture I need to store), or a larger one, that would cost me significantly more each month. For the sake of expediency (probably what they count on), I decided to just take the original and work around the column. Meanwhile, both the elevator guy and the rep at the desk in the office treated me as if I were holding up a major operation by even suggesting that I didn’t want the original unit — even though I was the ONLY customer there!
Then today, I called to change the credit card on my account due to a security breach with my original card. Before I could explain anything beyond my need to change my CC, I was cut-​off mid-​sentence and told that I HAD to do that on the website. It took me five minutes to explain that I had not yet registered on the site, and that I needed her to give me my unit number so that I could register.
The attitude, unprofessionalism, and overall lack of interest in helping makes me wonder why this place is in business. Be forewarned and do NOT store your stuff here! Go elsewhere!

Sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to do. Storage is one of this things that can turn a sunny day into a rainstorm. Living in NYC/​Jc forces you to make room because the Apts are so small. in called for storage in manhattan and refused to pay those crazy prices. Jersey is the way to go for storages.
The prices are so cheap compare to the city. Any way I searched around and got a good deal at keepers. was it the greatest exspericance? No, not even close but it was cheap and my stuff seems to be in a dry safe place. so who cares. I hate storage.

ok, so you think a storage place is just about storage. Well if thats the case keepers does just fine.
where they suck though, is any form of customer service.
The ladies inside the office are always rude and the elevator guy acts like he is doing you the biggest favor in the world when he takes you up/​down.
i moved out today and while keepers has a huge proper warehouse elevator, they instructed me and my moving guys to use the tiny around the back elevator that is more likely used for the offices located above the storage facility.
My moving guys were in shock, but started doing the job.
I got really annoyed– im paying for this elevator, plus these moving guys time!
I called down to the office and only after raising a stink about the elevator, the guy told me he can take my stuff down, but not any people. fine, whatever, but when i asked why he didnt tell us that initially– he replied «oh, i didnt know you were bringing stuff down.»
really? like i didnt pull up in a moving truck with 3 burly guys? come on…
when i ended my storage, the lady in the office was candy sweet about sending me coupons and other promos for renting space again.
ugh, save it. ill go elsewhere!
