History

Established in 1950.

The Joshua Tree Inn is the world-renowned «resting place of Gram Parsons’ spirit.» Parsons’ short, legendary life ended at his favorite hotel in his favorite place – Joshua Tree. Devotees come from around the globe to pay tribute to Gram Parsons and stay in the notorious room 8, where Parsons spent his last days (and never checked out as the legend goes). The spirit of Gram and his music will always live on at the Inn. Is the room itself haunted? We can’t say for sure, but we welcome you to find out for yourself. :)

The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, John Wayne, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Emmy Lou Harris, John Barrymore Jr., the Eagles, Donovan, the Byrds and countless other celebrated musicians, actors, artists and entertainers have long sought refuge at the Inn. The setting of one of rock music’s most legendary tragedies – considered hallowed ground by many – the Joshua Tree Inn is one of the most famous establishments in Joshua Tree and the High Desert.

If you want the luxury of a Hyatt or a Ritz Carleton, this is not the place for you. The Joshua Tree Inn is truly the Hotel California the Eagles sang about.
A few things to remember. You CAN NOT check in before 3. Also, the rooms are very basic. You have a bed, tv, bathroom, and microwave. Some of the rooms have a little patio, nay lanai, off of them. We stayed in room 4. Room 4 had 2 double beds, a tv with a remote that had seen better days, and a bathroom that looked like it had been around the block a few times.
There is a haunting beauty to the Joshua Tree Inn. In a strange way it kind of grabs at your soul. I understand that many a celebrity has stayed at the inn. I also understand that it was the place that Gram Parsons spent his final hours. All this history makes the Joshua Tree Inn a special place. In fact, when we checked in, the girl that helped us said that she visited the inn and fell in love with it. That says a lot about a place.
So you can check out anytime you like, but you can’t never leave. If you are visiting Joshua Tree, make it a point to stay here. Just take it all in and enjoy the Joshua Tree Inn.

PROS: Nice hotel
Great musical history!
Comfy beds, nice outdoor area.
great proximity to national park.
Pool.
Rustic.
CONS:
TVs need updating.
Door locks need maintenance.
Cleaning staff did not supply shampoos.
Bad Wifi.
But overall, best hotel to stay at if you are not a camper when going to Joshua Tree.

Such an enchanting place! I only booked 1 night but next time I will be sure to stay a couple of nights at least. Time has stood still at this little inn, and that is what makes it so charming. I stayed in room 3 which was great … very clean and the bed was very cozy. The grounds are well kept and beautiful. The staff was very friendly, as well as the guests I came across. There is a heart-warming tribute and memorial for Gram Parsons, which gives us Gram-pires tangible evidence of how much he has touched the lives of so many. I have found my new get-away, and can’t wait to return when the wisteria are in bloom. Thank you, JTI for an amazing weekend!

I just got home today from a weekend in Joshua Tree and the Inn is truly a special place. You can really feel the history and it’s this wonderful little oasis in the midst of today’s crazy lives. Great place to get away, and JTNP is just a few minutes down the road. There’s a beautiful zen courtyard, a pool, a koi pond with fountain, and a fire pit with chairs around it where you can sit and chill and enjoy the beautiful desert nights. There’s a beautiful memorial to Gram Parsons just outside room 8 and people have left wonderful things to show their respect. The staff is friendly and super chill, and there’s a wonderful dining room with a CD player and selection of CDs. We were in room 4, and the bathroom is quite small, but we had everything we needed and I wouldn’t have wanted to stay any place else. The air seems almost thick with the memories of the many, many music people who have been here and it’s almost as if Gram’s laughter floats on the night air among the Joshua trees. It’s a wonderfully charming place, and so wonderfully respectful of all the music history that the walls have witnessed.

The Joshua Tree Inn is something special that cannot be recreated. From the refreshing pool to the light fixtures and chandeliers near the fire pit, this place is picturesque in its own unique way.
I came here last minute, when Airbnb plans fell through, not expecting much. I left completely satisfied with my trip and could not think of a better place to stay when I return to Joshua Tree.
If you want to stay at a place that is authentic and makes you feel like you’re truly on vacation, book a room here. It’s totally affordable and its far from those cookie-cuter hotels that make you feel like you could be in any city.
The Joshua Tree Inn gets my stamp of approval :)

Such a Cool Place. From the office you walk through a old rustic courtyard taking you back to the days when GP and his friends would hang out and chill. The entire property is just so magical. Iam still entertaining the idea of renting out all rooms and having my own party there with 20 to 30 of my closest friends and family. If you are a Gram P fan (which we all are) obviously this place is on your bucket list. The only reason it did not get 5 stars, was because of the fact that the quaintness of this place will identify areas lacking where a 5 star hotel/motel would not. Like newer furniture, working air conditioner and swamp cooler, updated appearance, etc. But if you are going for the GP experience… It gets a perfect score.

I took my boyfriend here last weekend for his first visit to Joshua Tree and I am so glad I did! It was perfect! Such a rad little hotel. Super cute, super laid back friendly staff, rooms were really clean and comfy, and priced really well. No complaints! I will definitely be back to make more memories soon!

Well, I was disappointed. I rented a cabin, and had been told over the phone that the cabins have wifi but no television. Had I read the reviews I might have noticed that the wifi is spotty. I went there to hole up and do some research, which I like to do every so often in Joshua Tree because it’s so peaceful. I stayed in one of the cabins, it was a little stinky but cute.
The first night around 8 pm I called to say the wifi wasn’t working, they said they would send someone up the next day to fix it. There went my first night of work. I came to realize over the weekend that it’s not that it’s not working, but their version of working is horrible. It took two hours to download 5 minutes of footage I had been trying to watch. I ended up leaving in frustration around 11 pm the next night (which was already paid for), getting home around 2 am.
I sent them an email, thinking that I would be willing to try one of the rooms at the inn which should have better service, I thought it fair to request a partial credit so that I could come again. I didn’t want to give up on this inn, but I would not stay in the cabins.
I was polite in the email and I got a polite ‘NO’ response informing me after the fact that due to a number of factors, wifi is not guaranteed and thus, free. That was surprising to me because there hasn’t been a hotel I’ve stayed at in the last five or so years where the wifi WASN’T free. And it worked. I’ve never assumed that if wifi is free then there’s a problem with it. Had they given me the caveat that it’s spotty at best, and very unpredictable, I could have chosen to stay elsewhere considering that all the rooms at the inn were full, and possibly stayed there when there were some inn rooms available. However, I won’t be going back now. I didn’t feel that was an appropriate resolution. I’ve been to Joshua Tree a few times, stayed at other places and not had wifi problems despite being in the midst of the wilderness.
It ruined the quiet weekend getaway I had planned for myself.

PLEASANT HOTEL, UNPLEASANT MANAGEMENT.
We reserved a room at this inn for $ 129 per night.
When we arrived at the Inn we were told that a nicer Cabin and that it was located closer to the campsite where we were going to be meeting up with friends most days the following week.
It was actually much further from the campsite. And, as we discovered when we drove to the Cabin, it was located on an unlit unpaved road where my disabled wife would quite reasonable feel that she could not move around safely. They had not told us this.
We called the hotel upon arriving at the cabin without ever opening its door. This was less than 30 minutes after picking up the key. We explained we would need to return to our original, less expensive accommodation which we promptly did. On checking out, we discovered that they were attempting to charge us for the more expensive cabin which we never even entered. The manager said that it was their policy to charge the higher fee despite the fact that we refused the upgrade.
I travel often and have never before encountered a hotel that tries to charge extra for a room never occupied … this case is all the worse, since the manager misled us about the room.

This place is pretty adorable. It has a huge hacienda-style courtyard and lovely pool, a beautiful Gram Parsons memorial, a koi pond, and lots of flowering trees. Pool is unheated but was very bracing after a hot morning hike. A big dining area where you can bring takeout food. The rooms are pleasant but bare and basic. Cons: just off main road so there is some traffic noise (not too bad); I was awakened at midnight by a conversation next door, I could hear every word. The office hours are kind of strange, 3 to 8 pm. But overall, we were glad we stayed here. [p.s. I left something in my room, and the management asked me to send them a SASE for them to mail it back to me; it arrived safely and I was grateful.]

Road tripping with my best friend, we booked a night at the Joshua Tree Inn the night before on Hotel Tonight… When we arrived we were greeting by the most welcoming, friendly, informative Michael. He gave us a tour of the grounds, guided us to our room, and told us everything we needed to know about the area. The room was perfect! Clean, enough space for 2, and full of history., you really feel the essence here. Everyone staying at the Inn that night was amazing!!! Our neighbors who were staying in the Graham Paraons room invited us in, shared booze, and built a fire for all of us to enjoy. We spent the night sharing stories, tequila, and good vibes. I’m a straight up New York City Girl… I never knew places… Feelings like this could really exist ! I can not wait to to go back… Pure Magic!

I really wanted to like this place. I like to support local businesses. The Gram Parsons connection makes this site unique and its a nice setting. The owners are not on site except from 5pm to 8pm, so they’re not around if there is a problem.
What horrified me was there was no lock on the door, we could not lock it from the inside. The deadbolt was completely gone. We «McGyvered» a way to lock the door for the night and got out of there in the am.

Been coming here for twenty years. It’s gotten better each time I’ve been back. Maybe new owners and new ideas. For the price this motel is a perfect place to lay my head and head out in the morning to hike JTNP.
I’ve stayed in the Gram room many times, room 8. The front desk now sells room 8 key fob key chains! That’s a great gift for anyone in your life that loves Gram Parsons.
I recently stayed in room 3, it’s got a double bed and is perfectly comfy for a night’s stay. Plenty of hot, I mean really hot, water in the shower. The pool always looks inviting but I’ve never been here in the summer so the pool has always been too cold for me to go in. If you’re a polar bear you’d probably be fine jumping in the pool in January, it’s clean and open in the winter.
Both of the above rooms have mini fridges, heat and a/c and a little private backyard with chairs to chill in.
Booking online is fast and easy on the Inn’s website. Great spot and I’ll be coming back for the next twenty years. Love it.

My boyfriend and I have stayed at this place 4x in the last year and every experience had been nothing short of stellar. Our favorite suite is the Barrymore, (it feels like home). Although we love the Emmylou and Gram rooms as well, the Barrymore suite is one we have grown to love.
Recently I had to make some arrangements and move around my dates I had reserved there, and the woman at the front desk was completely understanding and truly accommodating. (Although typically my accommodations that were made aren’t normally acceptable), this woman went above and beyond.
I’m excited for our 5^th stay as it’ll be for my birthday. I’m sure my bf and I will embark on Pappy’s, and other great second hand stores about. I’m truly happy to call this place a home away from home.

I came in and was offered only a $ 150 suite. I didn’t have the energy nor time to find another place so accepted it only to find out the wi-fi was very sketchy, the breakfast worse than if I had been camping and an ok shower. The air-conditioning and bed were fine. The kitchen was ok for a Marriott but not for a suite. The pool looked inviting.
The office person was pleasant aside from a repeated effort to promote his exotic chai from Gujurat (where I have lived for 2 months and can report they use a lot less sugar)
The office is open from 3pm to 8pm, so good luck with any issues in the night or morning.

If you’re looking for a new hotel with the latest and greatest, this isn’t for you. If you are only happy with a continental breakfast featuring four kinds of coffee and eight different creamers, this isn’t for you.
If you like a quirky, old school desert hotel with character, then this is it. Extremely convenient for hiking Joshua Tree National Park. I didn’t know anything about Gram Parsons before staying here, so I got a history lesson along with a room.
We stayed in the Innkeepers Suite, didn’t need two beds but they are available. Nice heater that looks like a fireplace. Interesting shower, it’s tall! The room was clean, had a fridge and microwave so we chowed down on Hot Pockets. The pool looks nice, too cold to try it out.
We’ll probably be back!

This motel was a great choice for our young family. We’re not quite ready to camp in Joshua Tree but wanted to enjoy being in the park. We found the Inn through a recommendation and confirmed this was the place for us by checking on Unilocal.
We booked Donovan’s Suite and were not disappointed. With a 16 month old and 3 year old, this was a great room. We fit a pack-n-play in the closet (we brought our own from home) and 3-yr old slept in the queen bed. Comfy and clean, we were really happy we made this choice. Towels were fluffy, water was warm, and the beds were clean.
Both of the people I spoke to on the phone at the Inn during two separate calls were very kind and helpful.
The only reason I can’t rate this 5 stars is that there could have been a little bit more care given to the room; some simple upgrades could enhance it and bring this up to a 5-star.

Absolutely perfect. The only place I ever want to stay in Joshua Tree!
After doing a bunch of research for places to stay in Joshua Tree (and wanting something especially special, because my boyfriend and I were celebrating our 7 year anniversary!) it seemed like Joshua Tree Inn was the perfect place: great reviews, inexpensive, and a cool vibe. To our luck the Gram Parsons room was available, and when I told my boyfriend the story about it — we knew it was the room for us! He’s a musician, too, so he was pretty stoked.
The innkeeper was so kind and helpful, taking time to show us to our room and give us a tour of the grounds. He even invited us to come have some of the tea he’d made! The décor is super cool, everything is photo worthy, and it just has a great vibe. It was quiet and chill the entire time. I also really liked that we had a small private back yard with a few chairs! It was awesome. Bummer that we went in January, because it was too cold to use the pool, but it still looked inviting.
I also really liked that it was pretty close to the entrance of JTNP, our real reason for visiting Joshua Tree in the first place. It’s also close to a cool restaurant/bar we ate at, called the Joshua Tree Saloon!
All in all — no complaints whatsoever about the Joshua Tree Inn! Can’t wait to go back.
