Julian Country Inn

Stayed here for a night. Loved the room, the atmosphere, the décor, and of course the fact that it was dog friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Love the location. Glad we didn’t get room 2 as that’s the one that uses the hall bathroom. The room we stayed in was quaint. Nicely decorated and fairly clean. Unfortunately, the inn keeper doesn’t seem to be concerned about cob-​webs and my wife is. Our room had quite a collection of them. Bed was comfortable. Price was higher because we only stayed one night but glad they make exceptions for that.

Room was fine, but experience was not. Do not try to go in after dark. It was pitch black and a card with our name on it was clipped to the front door of the main house with no directions to the room. We then went stumbling around the entire grounds, with no luck. Owners finally came out but seemed offended that we were frustrated with the tiny winding roads and struggling with where to «check in». She said «but you’re in the country», like we should have known better. With that said, the room was clean, comfortable, and very much «grandmas house» type feel. But, all in all, the people of Julian were very un-​friendly throughout our stay, so we won’t be coming back. FYI, everything closes at 5:00 sharp (don’t test them on this as several expressed their irritation if you push it) restaurants included, so plan accordingly.

Let’s face it, dog friendly places are hard to come by. This place is gem! My husband and I stayed here with our two dogs for 2 nights. The room we were in was about the size of a one bedroom apartment, loaded with everything needed to be very comfortable for a few days. It felt like we were staying in someone’s guest house in a mountain getaway. The place is super close to town, but far enough to avoid all the tourists. Board games and VCR videos added a cool nostalgic vibe to the inn. The coffee provided was delicious. My dogs loved it… they slept in the little dog beds provided and there was plenty of room to roam. We were there during a nice winter snowfall and had a great view. So beautiful! Definitely won us over with its quaint décor and country hospitality. We will definitely return. It felt very homey. One tip, bring gallons of water. The tap is well water, we didn’t know if it was safe to drink and needed to get bottled water several times.

The room itself was nice. Unfortunately a big drawback we weren’t aware of was the bathroom for our room was in the hallway so you have to exit the room into the common area in order to use the restroom. It is only a few minute walk to town so that was nice.

Had to come to Julian to DJ a friend’s wedding. Found this place on Unilocal and decided to check them out! Did not realize the place would this nice & comfortable! I guess you can call this the Coca Cola Room from all the old school signs and dishes. Well stocked restroom. Coffe maker. Even dish network in the room! And for the price… Very Reasonable! I’m definetly coming back again!

We didn’t know what to expect coming here. There were 5 of us, aged 10, 19, 40, 40, and 78. We stayed in the king suite that was in the back and down one level. My mother in law had a hard time walking up and down the drive way because, well, she’s 78. But with a little help there were no issues.
The room had a private entrance, kitchen, living room, bathroom, and a bedroom. There we’re multiple closets and lots of board games as well as VHS tapes. We couldn’t figure out how to work the VCR though… I called the number but the woman was on the other line. She talked me through it but we still didn’t get it going. There were a lot of older movies that we were excited to watch but that’s okay, we came to start gaze, not watch movies.
The place was very clean and had all the comforts of home. It was right off the 78, but that was a minor bother.
All in all, we would come back. We really enjoyed this place. Next time someone will have to come down and work the VCR for us haha.

Very Cozy, nice lady who runs the place, was accommodating. She suggested some good spots to visit. The spa was broken, and at first she suggested I buy my own coals and lighter fluid to use the bbq… but then I called her back and she said she’d buy it. Otherwise I can’t complain really. $ 85 a night during the week. It’s not a 4 star hotel, but it fulfilled my needs more than enough. location is perfect. She said the water was drinkable… but…it looks cloudy… it’s well water… so I didn’t trust it. She provided a couple of gallons of drinking water but then I had to go buy a few gallons of water which was inconvenient.

An amazing place at a reasonable rate. Room comes with microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, and a legit coffee maker. The room was decent size, and the bed very comfortable. For any future visits to Julian, there is no other place I would stay.

My wife and I loved staying here and plan to visit again someday. After our initial plans for the weekend fell through we scrambled to find a cozy place to stay in Julian for the weekend. The Julian Country Inn had their suite available for a really reasonable rate so we decided to give it a chance.
The accommodations were outstanding! The suite was really like a comfortable little apartment decorated with plenty of country kitsch and right within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants in Julian. The owners were overwhelmingly hospitable and seemed to anticipate everything. There were plenty of board games to play, fun movies to watch, warm coats in case we needed them and even a dog we could walk!
No real downsides for us and we’d recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy, country/​mountain feeling.

I had low expectation about staying here since I called all the hotels and B&B in town and all were sold out or had a two night min stay except here. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised how cute our room was, very clean, and the hostess made sure you were taken care of. They had lots of selections for you to watch, although on a VCR, which didn’t bother me since they didn’t have to provide this for us. Beggars can’t be choosers. They also provided board games too. It really felt like you were staying at Grandma’s house. The only downside is its a 5 min walk into town and it would’ve been fine if it was just my husband and I, but we brought our toddler with us. We had to drive out to town for dinner since it was too cold and dark to walk back for our toddler. Overall great place to stay!

Stayed there for the 2^nd time recently, and it was perfectly enjoyable. I am sure you can find fancier digs, but you won’t find a better value. We like the downstairs room, because it has a great patio and jacuzzi. Completely private, very clean and well stocked. We sat and watched hummingbirds and hawks, drank mimosas and had apple pie for breakfast. Love the jacuzzi. Enjoyed the family dog hanging out with us snoozing in the sun! I can’t imagine anyone being frighened of her because she cried and rolled on her back when she met us – a total mushbag sweetie. If you leave the door open though, she will check out your stuff. Just like home!
If you want a nice affordable getaway within walking distance to town, this is the place!

We were visiting Julian for the first time and planned on doing a lot of sightseeing. After calling every lodge/B&B in Julian and getting quoted $ 90-​$ 247 per night, I came across this place. The owner, Marsha gave us the option of staying in their main house or renting their camper. We were up for an adventure and choose to go with the camper for $ 69/​night. I must add we are Hilton Honors members so we do have expectations in regards to comfort and amenities.
But I figured we would be doing a lot of sightseeing and would only be sleeping in the room, so might as well save some money. What I didn’t expect was how nice and how much fun staying in a camper would be! The camper is situated very privately on the property, where we were able to come and go as we pleased. Getting away from the kids and work we were able to enjoy each others company and not do all the socializing that comes with staying at a B&B or small lodge (as most of Julian is). They call this the «Coleman Getaway»! Not only was it very clean and cozy, it was well equipped. It included a kitchenette equipped with coffee, tea and delicious filtered water. When we arrived we took a nap and missed our dinner reservation. FYI every restaurant in town shuts down before 8pm so we had our dinner a la carte via liquor store and DiGiornos so the oven and dishes came in handy! The bathroom doubles as a shower room also and although its small (standard in a camper), the water gets surprisingly hot for a while. It was stocked with towels, hand clothes, shampoo, bodywash, conditioner and lotion (enough for your whole body unlike the snooty hotel)!
A possible downside for some people was the camper only has a radio/​cassette deck and VHS player, although there are plenty of VHS movies to watch. We enjoyed laying back and watching some old favorites like «Short Circuit» and «My Big Fat Greek Wedding». Don’t forget to «Be Kind and Rewind’ when you are done! The bed is an overhead that you do need to climb up (just a couple steps and a heave up) but it was big enough for the the both of us, warm and comfy. The heater worked great and good thing because it was really, really cold outside. There is a little patio at the entrance of the camper with chairs and a table, lantern, string of xmas lights, cooler and grill for ambiance. We could definately see ourselves sitting there during warmer weather sipping a martini and reading the newspaper. We were visited by the resident dog «Julie Ann» who is a medium sized mutt (some might say pit mix) but that means nothing in our book. She was an absolutely darling and welcomed us with a butt wag so hard we thought her tail might fly off! A house is not a home without a dog is our motto. Julie Ann has been enjoyed by many guests as indicated by the comments in the guestbook. As far as location, this place is perfectly located an easy 5 minute walk to town. Its off the main road so its quiet and you won’t have to look for parking on busy weekends in town. The bottom line, this is absolutely the best budget deal in Julian for 1 – 2 people. We saved a lot of money on sleeping arrangements and spent a lot more on shopping and dining! Loved it!

Pros: Great price and location, very nice hostess, convenient and clean rooms.
Cons: Hot /​Cold water plumbed opposite in the shower so you had to pass through hot to get to cold when adjusting the temp, bathroom shelf not screwed down so fell off, resident pit bull dog roamed through our room twice picking through our food and frightening our 5 year old.

It just felt like I just visited my auntie in Julian. The place is cozy and owners are friendly. The rooms have a lot of amenities like Satellite TV, Microwave, small refrigerator, free wireless internet, and coffee maker in the guest room. Even you can find magazines, books, board games, and current local newspapers. One of my favorite artists, Norman Rockwell’s illustration prints are all over the room also. The BBQ area and covered Jacuzzi spa is available. It’s not most cleanest place you can find in Julian but I really enjoyed the country charm this place offers.
