We can’t recommend this place more highly. We had an epic vacation road biking around Maui. The bikes were basically brand new with awesome components (I had 105’s which were a blast to work with). Neal gave us great service and the rental included all the tools we needed. We also rented a bike rack for just $ 5, and it worked our convertible which was awesome. The shop is clean and located conveniently close to the airport. Neal had some great tips for the rides we wanted to do and his website was very helpful (check out the mapped rides). Overall, we loved this place and it made our whole vacation unforgettable. We will definitely be back!

GREAT Shop! Great selection of bikes and gear. I purchased a mountain bike from the shop and my father-​in-​law rented one. Both services AWESOME! The owner/​mechanic is on it and offers great advice. Not pushy in sales.
While i was looking at their bike options for sale, i overheard the owner giving great advice to his other customers. That showed me that he cared and wasn’t just interested in making ‘the sale.‘
My father-​in-​law is an avid biker and he was also impressed with the shop’s offerings, owner’s knowledge, and the reasonable prices.

I’ve been mountain biking for many years and got to experience the beauty of Haleakala sunrise then descend Skyline to Mamame trail big thanks to Neil and his great directions and awesome set up with full suspension bikes, camelbacks, tubes, tools for a great price!!!

Stopped by the new location Today with is inside of the Maui Adventurer Sports Store. The new space looks good and is still at look out his customers So far so good.

If you enjoy single track, you have to rent from Neal and hit the skyline trail! The trail and weather conditions will change on you constantly on the way down. We parked at rice park, after plummeting to the bottom we headed over to Maui bike park for even more of a blast! It took about 15 minutes and we were on our way with 3 bikes and a rack. The bikes in his stable are the real deal.

Great experience with Neal. Answered questions on phone before my visit. Renting bike went as smooth as possible, including outfitting rental with SPD pedals.
Giant Anthem a was good bike for Makawao and Skyline. The seat dropper post was a nice extra to have and got plenty of use on both trails.
I like the website with trail info. The maps provided by the shop and additional info from Neal were spot on and no time lost getting to or riding the trails.
The flow trail at Makawao is world class and great to know Neal helped create and maintain it. He will get my future business.

Traveling on business and pleasure this past week to Maui and wanted to mountain bike the island. From the phone call 3 weeks ago with Neal, to Stephen setting up the Giant Trance with my Candy C pedals and WTB saddle, Park Tool pump and tubes included in rental, everything was outstanding. And, Stephen hooked me up with trail maps and where I should ride.
I was going to ship my tricked out carbon fiber Santa Cruz Tallboy LTC. So glad I didn’t! Saved a ton and had a really good bike to ride the trails here. One suggestion for anyone wanting to ride Maui. Definitely look into doing some road riding. Next time I come back, going to split my rental with Mountain and Road bikes. And, of course I will rent with Crater Cycles!

I rented a bike from Neal to ride up the Crater, the bike shop has the high-​end stuff, got a full carbon road bike with Shimano 105 for $ 65. That includes everything you need with a trunk rack. The bike I got was in mint condition, no a scratch on it. The whole process took less than 20 mins, no up sell. So, if you want to ride up the crater, stop here, they rent all Giants, I also saw a Cervelo.

Epic shop! Great selection and super friendly vibes. We came here to rent some bikes and Neal was so helpful. He’s very knowledgable and can set you up with what you need.
I overheard him helping another customer and he is honest and upfront about when bikes and gear will arrive. No empty promises, just a straight forward, honest shop!

WOW what a great bike shop. Right out of the airport on the way to Lahaina and Kihei. Neil hook me up with some recovery drink, i said how much do I owe you, and he said do not worry about it. He told me about a group ride going on the weekends that he provide free tubes and a support scooter to ride with all the local guys. I highly recommend this bike shop for bike rentals and a honest and pleasant experience while visiting the island. I think the group is called maui group rides on Facebook.

I looked around for a bike shop to use while vacationing in Maui and found Crater Cycles through Unilocal.You can definitely trust the 5 star review. Crater Cycles didn’t disappoint. Neal and Collin were very friendly. The road bike rental agreement includes a bike rack, helmets, pump, and toolkit bag. All the essentials unless you want to use clip less pedals and shoes so just be sure to bring those. We rented two road bikes and they were awesome. In great shape and looked almost brand new. Thanks Crater Cycles. =)

Crater Cycles has great customer service, good equipment and better pricing than most shops on the island. Skyline was a super fun ride with a lot of different trail conditions to keep it interesting. It’s a long shuttle but worth the effort. The hidden gem was Makaweo. Definitely recommend a visit to those trails! A downhill trail is being built and the work in progress is promising.

If you want the real deal experience of mountain biking Maui, do yourself a favor and go meet Neal at Crater Cycles! We didn’t have reservations, dropped in during the Xterra tri-​race weekend, and Neal was completely the most awesome, patient, helpful guy we could have hoped to meet.
He didn’t have a rental bike in my size, so he grabbed a brand new Giant Trance from his for sale rack, sawed the seat post for me, changed out the pedals to SPD clips, hooked up my wife with a new Giant Reign, all the gear, mounted a rack on our Jeep, and STILL took time to draw us a map to Makawao Forest trail.
We had an amazing, but tough, run on the Makawao Loop, totally off the tour guide dog and pony route. Crater Cyles made our day!

I just want to give the crew at Crater Cycles a big «Mahalo» for providing My friends and I, Top notch service, Sweet Giant Reign MTBs, Protective gear, and a Bike Rack. Neil (shop owner) went out of his way to make our biking adventure possible and Jessie (1^st Mate) was an awesome guide to our destination. If you are ever considering riding Maui, Crater Cycles is the shop to rent from.

Crater Cycles is THE BEST! They are always so kind and helpful. Seriously I’ve never had better help at any store than at Crater Cycles. I can really trust their advice. As a biking newbie I was nervous, but they were super welcoming and helpful. Crater Cycles rocks!

Major shout-​out to Neal and the rest of the crew at Crater Cycles. I was on Maui for about a week and before I got to the island, I did my research and wanted to ride Skyline. I called around and decided to go with Crater Cycles. SUPER happy with my decision.
Neal set me up with a brand new Yeti SB-​66 well equipped with 2013 Fox CTD gear and a full XT gruppo. I stopped in the day before to make the reservation and when I got there to pick up the rig, the bike was clean, chain was lubed and suspension setup for my weight. Everything on the bike was in excellent working order, which made for a much more enjoyable ride. The younger guy working the shop as well (Garrett?) was super helpful and even let me borrow a pair of SPD shoes, which was awesome.
The price was incredibly fair out the door and included a helmet, pads, pump, and toolkit for any emergencies (though wasn’t needed) and he set me up with a rack for the rental car and great directions for the trails.
If you are on Maui, and want to ride, I’d not look any further than Crater Cycles.

My friend and I were on the island for a few days and started developing «island fever» we desperately needed something to do. We did a few quick online searches and came across Crater Cycles and let me tell you they were out of this world! The lev el of service we got from «Chris» reminded me of my local shop. He showed us where the best trails were on the mountain and where two Colorado boys like ourselves would have the most fun. We ended up riding skyline to Mamane to Waipoli. The entire ride was great and is a must do! It is such a great way to see the mountain and maui in general. I rented a Sb-​95 and my buddy rented an intense. Both bikes were in prime condition and I felt comfortable riding them on some of the more technical terrain. Good shop and good people working there they made my trip so much better

Rented two really nice downhill bikes for a crater run down Skyline. Unfortunately, Mamane trail was closed due to recent fires /​fallen trees, but we still had a great 17 mile trek down the mountain.
We swung by on a Sunday when they were closed, but just happened to be around, and the owner was still able to hook us up, despite being exhausted having spent all day clearing trail near Makawao. He could’ve sent us on our way, but was super nice about the whole thing.
Prices were pretty reasonable for such nice bikes, and rental included full face helmets, gloves, knee and elbow pads, a set of tools, and even a rack.
On our ride, one of the members of our party was riding pretty aggressive and endo’d on the lower section. Her ribs were tweaked and slowed us down a bit, and messed up our timing. We made it down the mountain by 4PM, but didn’t quite have enough time to get the car at the top and make it back to the shop in time. Fortunately, they were able to let us drop the bikes off the following AM due to the circumstances. Again, they were real cool about the whole situation.
I would definitely rent from these guys again.

Neil was very generous by renting his personal steed to me when no other bikes were available. Although I had some shifting issues, they were resolved and compensated for by the shop owner; Neil backs up his services.

Crater Cycles rented me a really sweet ride for my adventures in Maui. Great bikes, great service.

Contacted the owner (Paul) weeks before arriving on Maui to rent a downhill bike for the infamous Skyline Trail (starting at 10,000′ on the Haleakala volcano going down to around 4,000′). When we arrived at the shop, he was pretty helpful with the information about the trail and appeared to be concerned that I was doing it alone. The bike and bike rack appeared at my car — it appeared that they expected to load it without any discussion or inspection. I rode the bike in the parking lot and asked for some handle bar adjustments and they accommodated nicely. The chain looked very «used» to me. I asked Paul to check the stretch in the chain with a gauge. His immediate response was «I’m not going to put a new chain on this bike.» I reminded him that I did not request a new chain — I asked for him to check it to see if it was stretched beyond the recommended limits. His worker recommended that I could take a connector link in the repair kit so that if the chain broke, i could repair it. Paul jumped in to sarcastically ask where I’m going to get a chain tool (obviously he was not going to provide one in the repair kit). Next Paul’s defensive behavior escalated to «Trust me — I know what I’m taking about — I am the business owner» and commenting to his worker «Have you ever had someone ask to check a chain before.?»
Bottom line in my opinion, Paul’s inflated ego is far more important to him than worrying about a customer having an equipment failure on an 18 mile 6,000 foot downhill trail which includes some pretty technical single track. I recommend that you take your business elsewhere.
I rented a full suspension bike at another shop (
) and had a great ride. They provided a decent repair kit and had no issues throwing in an extra connector with a chain tool. The ride was fantastic!
