Big Daddy’s Pupus & Beers

Even though the kitchen was closed, the authentic Hawaiian local feel was amazing. My wife and I stopped in for a drink and watched islanders with ukuleles play on stage. Everyone was having a great time and the feeling was contagious. I am sad to learn that the bar will be closing for good next week when their lease is up. Maybe they will re-​open on a new location? Either way, mahalo for the experience!

Super greasy options– had a pupu platter with poke, calamari, oysters, wings and bacon. Poke was fine, everything else was pretty lack-​luster.

I was sucked in by the name… but it was a bust.
The HH beers on draft were very reasonable and served in ice cold schooners. Very nice! The selection of beers on draft were a bit weak unless you are a light beer fan. (Pacifico, Stella, etc)
Had a couple of apps, one was sausage and onions which was fine. The other was the wings which is where this place is a total mess. First, they say they come with Unko Frank’s Recipe, so I asked the guy if it is Frank’s Hot Sauce. The guy says no, they are just regular wings. Well, guess what, it was Frank’s. And they were soggy. Pretty sure they are the frozen ones you get at Costco.
And the bartender was not the most social even though we pretty much had the place to ourselves.
Looks like this could be a fun place, but it was a bust for us and we left quickly.

Had a blast here. There was some corporate event going on so we stayed in bar area. The bar tender was cool, seemed to enjoy his job. Lots of locals hanging out.
We were tired, and totally bummed we didn’t stick around and join the kareokee party, which would of got me kicked out.

Big Daddys is the best place, friendly service, good pupus, cold scooners and live entertainment, I recommend it to everyone

We came here on a week night for the pupus. I was really disappointed. It appeared that the kitchen buys everything from costco and just heats it up. The edamame did have a nice sauce on it but everything else tasted packaged. Same old same old choices as ever other place in town.

This place was GREAT! ICED cold beer, and Baked Bar-food…who knew??? Really, this place was a refreshing change from all the tourist traps!!! Great appetizers and did I say that they are healthy… Baked not fried!! yum yum! Come visit! They will not disappoint!!!

Big Daddy was our bartender and was sweet. We came in at 2 pm for happy hour and stayed for the very chilled beer in schooners. Pupus were ordered at 4 pm Poke signature dish, teriyaki meatballs and smoked pork and onions yummy. All was delicious and we found the price to be very reasonable. We will be back.

I came to this place to meet with my cousin for some drinks, pupus, and catching up… Once i found the place I was pleasantly surprised. It was cute, clean and not very many people there. The loan bartender gave great service (he better have considering there was only a few other people in there). The pupus and drinks were both very good as well. My cousin and I even sang a few songs when they started karaōke… All and all we both had a fun time there, and I look forward to coming back.

This place seemed like such a scam! As two obvious tourist (from California) we walked up on a Friday night hoping for some good drinks and a good time, when they told us it’d be $ 20 for each! $ 20 for what seemed like a dive bar??! Not even a descend California club chargers that. The worse part is we noticed nobody else getting charged as they walked in.
When we walked up to the hostess and bouncer (5 – 10 minutes later) to ask for our money back so we could leave, they were so rude and said it was the cover charge for the «concert». We stated we’d only been there 5 – 10 minutes. When the hostess called the «manager» he said we had already been in the bar and simply walked away. Very rude and unwelcoming!!!

Great atmosphere, big waited nearly 10 mins for waitress to come table and just ask for directions drinks.
Food was excellent but waitress gave some bad attitude just wanted us to order the food was was very unhelpful. Thankfully food was good.

So this was our very last stop before heading to the airport (trying to hit as many good drinking spots as possible before 2 long flights) after a great stay on Hawai’i. Couldn’t have picked a better way to spend the last little bit of time left — drinking ice cold schooners of beer, eating smoked pork with onions and a huge Nacho platter for $ 10. No microbrews or fancy food, just quaffable brews and good eats at moderate prices.
Mel was awesome! Great Bartender and fun to talk sports with, would love to catch some live music here. As I found myself thinking at a couple of other places throughout my stay on the Big Island, this would definitely be a regular stop if I lived here.

Aloha spirit, great local live music, karaōke wide, onolicious food all baked if not sautéed, and the DRINKS! Brah! Let me tell you. Open space with open arms.

If you want a casual fun place to drink and hang then this is the place! Don’t expect an ultra lounge or gourmet catering. Just simple and good. The place where the locals go.

This bar is so great. Best poke I’ve ever had. Tastes like heaven.

This is Best place on Big Island for Pupus and drinks. Not your typical deep fried appetizers, no grease on this menu. Everyone is soo friendly and welcoming. Great Vibe! Leroy and Dubin are the best! While on vacation I found myself going here everyday for happy hour or least some time during the day. Loved going her for the live music on weekends. Awesome sound! Alot of fun! Thank you guys for being soo very cool. I concider these guys my new friends.

When on vacation it’s sometimes difficult to find great places to eat and drink. Found a great place at Big Daddy’s. Proprietors Duben and Leroy create a genuine and friendly relationship with their customers and their ice cold beer schooners are awesome!

Saw that this place had 4.5 stars on Unilocal so I came here to eat and have a beer while watching the Giants smack the Nationals.
I sit down and the bartender tells me that they aren’t serving food yet because the chef hasn’t shown up?! He said he’ll be here any minute. Okay…
30 minutes go by and I finish my beer. Which gave me enough time to remember to review this place. I would’ve given it 1 star but the beer was VERY cold, they were playing all kinds of sports, and the bar tender was very nice despite the complacency of his chef.

Love this place! Great relaxing atmosphere, and poke that is to die for. May be heresy, but I think it’s even better than the amazing poke at Da Poke Shack! Everybody was so friendly, we ended up coming here twice for poke and beer on our trip, and if we weren’t leaving tomorrow, would absolutely be back
A bit hard to find, tucked away in the very back corner of King Kamehameha Mall, but just keep driving until you get to the end of the parking lot. You will not be disappointed!
