Most authentic Mexican food in Hawaii. Being from SD my standards are pretty high, Betos doesn’t disappoint. My normal litmus test for a Mexican place is to order Chili Verde; I was pleasantly surprised the first time here and have followed up several times since. Quick efficient food truck service, smile menu, makes for an overall great experience. Recommend: Chili Verde Nachos Shrimp Tacos

We lived in Kailua for 3 years before we discovered Beto’s Tacos and Platos. We’ve been there 3 times in the past 2 months and have always ordered the same thing, the chicken burrito a la cart and the chicken burrito plate. The food is good and inexpensive. It is an easy way to have dinner to eat with your weekend TV night. We park in the lot next 2 Creekside and usually the food is ready about 10 minutes after you order.

I was over in Kailua wandering around just seeing what was happening on a Thursday evening. My daughter and I already found the Kailua Farmer’s Market night and already checked out that huge Target(after buying a Hulk mask and hands and making half the store crack up). We decided to check out this taco stand that I’ve heard so much great stuff about. It lives up to the reputation. I grabbed some carne asada tacos and red rice. They were one of the best tacos I’ve had on island. The rice was ok. I probably wouldn’t get the rice again, it wasn’t terrible. The tacos were amazing. :):):) The staff was fast and very friendly.

Love Beto’s. Good tacos are rare in Hawaii and Beto’s does a great job love their enchiladas and tacos.

I love Beto’s. Best Mexican food in Hawaii. Plus they are the nicest people ever! If you are in Kailua on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday after 7pm, you should try it. You won’t be disappointed.

This was the first local place I ate at here in Oahu and yeah I’m a fan. My boyfriend ordered their carne asada torta while I got three tacos. The tacos are pretty big, made with small flour tortillas, so be careful. If I would have know their size two would have been more then enough for me. That said though, not really a fan of flour tortilla tacos, but that didn’t ruin these for me. The meat was tender and well seasoned and their pico gave it a nice kick. My boyfriend’s torta, although I only got one bite was pretty tasty too.

One stop — and this becomes a weekly ritual. This week I tried the pollo torta… and it blew me away. It was, hands down, the best sandwich I’ve had in recent memory. I’d put it up against anything coming out of Rick Bayless’ kitchen at Tortas Frontera( ) in Chicago.

Okay me and my husband went last Saturday. We got the carne Asada chips and 3 mini tacos. I’m so disappointed first of all they had nothing to drink expect water bottles. Next the carne Asada chips what a joke honestly 12 dollars for the big ones and was nothing but pure chips. The meat was none existent like no like there was like 10 pieces of meat. And have tacos in order for myself and daughter it was more like eating tortillas. Is like come on.

O-M-G. Why haven’t I tried this food truck before??? Oh, I know why, I’m hardly ever in Kailua at 7 pm unless I already am eating somewhere. This was definitely worth the trek over the pali. This food truck is located on Hamakua Drive, and while there is a small parking lot right in front of it, I parked in the Foodland parking lot and walked over… just to be sure I could have the time to peruse the menu and inhale all the yummy smells. Everything is made to order, so expect to wait at least a few minutes for your meal. I ordered the chili verde bowl and two mini carne asada tacos. My friend ordered their wet burrito, enchilada and a mini taco. We only had to wait five minutes for our food. Since we parked by Foodland, we grabbed a couple drinks from Whole Foods and ate there. The first bite of the bowl was heavenly!!! The pork was tender with so much flavor!!! The bowl is rice, refried beans, the chili Verde, a sprinkle of shredded cabbage, salsa and sour cream. All the flavors just meld together into one yummy mouthful. My mini carne asada tacos were super simple, full of flavor, and delicious!!!

Ok, chose this place because the reviews were good. Honestly this truck is horrible I’m sorry. Food tasted like cleaning product salsa was non existent. Meat was super super chewy(asada). Hawaii lacks good authentic Mexican but this one was the most disappointing.

This place has been here for quite awhile. Very smart location right next to a few bars!!! But plenty of others come here for their Mexican fix! Always busy when I go. The food is good… nice people running truck. The smothered burrito is delicious. Also love the torta! The sign doesn’t say it… but it does come with guacamole. Which I hate… had to learn that the hard way. I’m from cali and miss Mexican food so much! But this place definitely helps cure those cravings!

For all my years in Kailua, I had never heard of Betos or noticed their food truck parked near the marsh outside of Creekside. Parking is kinda limited to the surrounding streets but people are coming and going do something should open up. Got there right after 7pm, and there was only one person in line. Right after though more and more came forming a queue seven deep as I waited for my order. We got s burrito plate, mini tacos, a half order of nachos, and a torts. The minis are indeed mini but the half nachos was hefty. The carne asada torta was a little disappointing since it looked like a torta from Costco. The burrito plate was a value with its size and sides. All the food was flavorful and even better, affordable. Lot cheaper than dining in at other neighborhood Mexican restaurants. My order came out quick though I’m not sure about the wait once the crowd arrives.

This is still my favorite Mexican food place on island. My mom used to own and cook in a Mexican restaurant in California, and being her daughter, I love to cook. However, some items are just too expensive for me to make at home, or time consuming, so coming here is the best bet. The couple who run this place is absolutely the sweetest and always ready to chat. They remember you and make you feel as if you’re eating with a long-time friend.

I lived in LA for 3 years while I was in college and apart from chipotle, I did get to experience some great authentic Mexican food. :P Every now and then I crave those little soft tacos that I would get at little hole in the wall places. With the lousy Mexican options hawaii has, it’s hard to find those little tacos. Search no further, beto’s had them! And they’re cheap! I opt for the regular sized tacos($ 3 each), but they also offer smaller $ 2 ones. I like the carne asada. It’s simple and perfect and delicious. Beto’s is located across the street from foodland in Kailua. It’s a little hidden because it’s so dark along that road, but I park in the times coffe shop lot and the bright lights of the truck light up the sidewalk nearby. I’ve noticed the truck parked there a couple times, but finally got the opportunity to try it. It’s a surprisingly popular place. While I was waiting for my food, a homeless looking guy came by to order, as did a local guy and two other military guys. My food didn’t even take that long to make either. I’ll have to come back to try some of the other offerings. I’m not too into Mexican beans and rice, not do I like tortas. However, I would like to try the tamales and chili verdes. :)

PRO: open late night on the weekend and is in walking distance from multiple bars in Kailua. However, the food was just okay. Ordered the torta with chicken(tasted greasy and bland) and tacos with carne asada(nothing special or spectacular). Would probably only recommend to drunkards who go out late night and need a source of food to sober up.

What better drunk food than Taco Truck food?! If you live in Kailua and Creekside is your usual spot, you need to stop by Beto’s before heading home. I’m sure their tacos are way better than whatever you have in your fridge to satisfy your drunken belly. If you’re visiting the area and you’re in need of some delicious, authentic, quick Mexican food, check this place out. Beto’s is parked near Creekside bar on Hamakua Dr Thursdays to Saturdays and they’re open from evenings to late night(2AM ish). They have everything from tacos to quesadillas with variety of meat options(and vegetarian options). I’ve had the vegetarian tacos(2) and it was delightful! Perfect amount of veggies, beans, rice, guac & mildly spicy salsa– I was most definitely in taco heaven. Veggie options aren’t posted on the menu, but the owner will cook up some delicious vegetarian food for you if you ask. Speaking of the owners, they’re SO sweet. They really are the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Everything is pretty cheap– tacos are just $ 3 each and a quesadilla is $ 8. They’re pretty huge so I thought the price was perfect. Oh, but cash only!

All I want to say is don’t come because I don’t want to share this with you! :) I can’t even tell you how thrilled I am to have REAL, like a really REAL, Mexican food restaurant right in my own neighborhood. The tamales, which are my go to when deciding if I love a Mexican spot or not are to die for. They’re not dry at all and so large that it’s clear lots of love went into these homemade meat filled corn husked lumps of happiness. My only wish would be that they’re open more days during the week. How can I have Mexican food everyday if you’re not always open?!

If it’s Thursday then it must mean Tacos! or Tamales, burritos or tortas! Parked outside of Creekside and Time Coffee Shop you’ll have to get there on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday: I love their tortas(shredded beef for me, shredded chicken for the husband), with cheese, avocado, shredded lettuce, peppers(hot) and salsa for under $ 7.00 a sandwich: Burritos, tamales & enchiladas sold ala carte or with beans and rice taste ridiculously good: The service is friendly and the food is addicting which makes it hard to wait for Thursdays and the weekend to come around.
