Been coming to Times since I was a kid… Over 30 years… The lesson that is learned today is I don’t care how good your food is, it does NOT make up for HORRIBLE(and I’m using horrible as a KINDWORD) service‼ Heres how bad of a job that the staff did today… 1st I understand that when you are busy, a wait is unavoidable, but when 7 parties leave at the same time and you can’t even sit your customers who are waiting then that is a problem… How you ask? Times lost 2 separate parties to Zippys… One party of 3 and the other of 5… Mind you there are now 7 booths open… Another party of 5 was lost to Cinnamons… Sit the poor people at least, I mean they have been waiting over 20 minutes only to leave now and spend their money ATYOURCOMPETITORS‼ There is a list of who is next in line to be served at the door which you sign in when you arrive… Our party was next… We waited patiently for about 25 minutes, and like I said I have no problem waiting because I know you are busy, but I DOHAVE A PROBLEM when you sit three parties that have NOT waited the wait we have, BEFOREUS‼ ABSOLUTELYNOEXCUSEFORTHAT‼ As the tables were available… That was just the beginning… After we were finally shown our booth the waiter asked for our drink order… Now Times menu offers about 5 different types/flavor’s of coffee, our party ordered 2 different types and one regular, only to be told that only one type can be brewed because they only have ONEPOT⁉ WTF⁉ For the whole establishment⁉ Then why offer all those different types of coffee⁉ After our waiter finally took our drink order, he asked us if we were ready to order, our party was not but I was and asked if he could get my order started and come back for the rest of the orders… Do you know what the response from the waiter was… «I can, but it won’t get started until I get the rest of the orders because the cooks will get confused» So are you saying that your cooks are incompetent? Because I’m sure that they would not appreciate you saying that they can confuse a single order of fried rice, bacon, and 2 over easy eggs… Seems very strange to me… We have not got our food yet and I will stop here before anything worse can happen, but I am ashamed for the 3 parties still waiting at the door to be seated with 5 booths still empty and clean… I hope they don’t lose more money to Zippys today… Thank god the food is good or I would never return to one of my favorite spots in my hometown. TOGO orders for me from now on only…

Times Coffee Shop is one of my favorite local breakfast places. We drive all the way from Kahala just to eat there on Sundays. The employees at the restaurant is so friendly. They make you feel at home. They are also very attentive… always checking on how you are doing, seeing if we got our order correctly, and refilling our water/coffee. The food is good too. My favorite is the Belgian Waffles and the Mahimahi plate. The waffle is so crispy and tasty and the Mahimahi is tender and not so fishy tasting. Just thinking about those two plates makes me want to go back again already!

Favorite breakfast place in town. I love that it’s not overcrowded by tourists like the rest of Kailua. It’s just like waking up to breakfast at home(without having to actually cook and clean). The prices have gone up over the years but I guess that’s the case with everything here in Hawaii. My favorite time to come here is after a morning hike the food(especially the fried rice) taste 10x better after climbing a mountain.

Family style diner with locals and tourists. Fair food, a little more greasy but the Portuguese sausage was good. Would go again.

Fish not edible in the fish and eggs breakfast. So gross! Mediocre food and service, pricy, does not taste good. What happened to the aloha on this island? So disappointing. I hate going out for breakfast and leaving there with a bad taste in my mouth and just having my whole day ruined. Good thing I planned to go for a walk and see the birds so at least the rest of the day gotten better. Will not be back here, nope.

Went to Times today for an ono lunch. Grilled mahi sandwich deluxe with Portugeuse soup. Split meal with my friend, Lisa since we also had green salad and potato mac salad and an iced tea. Lunch about $ 10 per person. Eat local, eat out more often!

I decided to return here because i had good experiences before but this time was different. My bf and i went about 10 wasnt too busy. Okay first thing I signed us in and we sat right there waiting, another couple comes after us signs in and stands on the side and the waiter seats them, like we were first! luckily the couple was nice and honest told the waitress we come before them. Secondly as soon as we sat not even 5 mins into looking at our menus the waitress asked if we were ready to order i told her give us about 5 mins she asked if we would like any other drinks besides water so can make it and come back by then we were ready, so i ordered 2 scrambled eggs, fried rice(extra charge), white toast, and bacon not too crispy about medium well cooked and my bf ordered the same thing with portuguese sausages but asked for the bacon to be cooked well done. Lastly after she put our order in we waited about 45 – 50 mins they were kinda slow today. When she finally bought our food our toast were cold so the butter wasnt even melted just a slab between two breads, my bacon was crispy which i didnt want and my bfs bacon was burnt so that kinda just ruined the flavor but the fried rice was good. Overall experience I would go back but only once in a while.

I’ve been here a few times, with and without family. This is my go to in Kailua. I always go for the fried rice. Never any problems and it’s always a good eat and i always have extra to take home. Feels like thanksgiving every time I’m here.

First of all, $ 3.25 for a refillable(in theory if the waitress ever came) teeny tiny cup of Kona(in theory) coffee that tasted bad was ridiculous at this whole in the wall cafeteria. The home fries are the best thing here. The pork moco was fine. The meat was really good but I didn’t like the gravy. The pancake was very dry. It’s cheap though.

Disappointed with the quality and service. Waited 10 minutes to just be seated. With open booths mind you. I am watching people who came in after us and ordered after us receive their food before ours. The Belgium waffle was luke warm, the food was under seasoned. For $ 4.95 a side order of luncheon meat. I expected the slices to be a bit thicker, or at least four thin slices. The steak had no taste, didn’t seem to even have salt. Have eaten there several times, I do not remember it being so dissappointing.

I wanted to try a local place off the beaten path and this seemed to serve the bill. I won’t visit again but am glad I had the initial experience. The food was your basic diner food. I had wanted to try the Portuguese sausage so ordered it with my scrambled eggs, home fries and toast. The home fries was nothing to write home about and the sausage, while being very tasty, was a rather small portion. For some reason, the server or the kitchen got my order wrong, instead of scrambled eggs I got something like an omelette style egg but w/o anything inside. Although the service was friendly and welcoming they seemed to either not hear very well or simply not remember my requests; the eggs error being one of three mishaps.

It’s ok, I wouldn’t go out of my way to get there, but if you are in the area and want some food to eat without breaking the bank, go for it. I seem to remember the fried rice being much better than it was in my last visit, hence the 3 stars. I went with the corned beef hash, eggs and toast. Hubs had an adobo special, honestly I was a bit preoccupied with the Thing 1, the older of the two grands. He was in heaven with his waffle, and hyped up on syrup, which he proceeded to get EVERYWHERE! It actually is a great family place to get some breakfast/lunch/brunch, I just remember that fried rice used to be the bomb-diggity, but now it’s ok, hence the 3 instead of 4 stars.

It’s been a couple of years since we ate here. We were regulars for many years, back from when Sam, the father, was still alive and it was located across the street from where Zippy’s is now. Over the years there was a decline in quality then for awhile portions. Yes their portions especially the salad was even bigger before. I’d get at least 1 – 2 hamburger steak plates a week but the recipe or quality of ingredients changed. I think they still give you good value for your money. Rating just my most recent visit I’m giving four stars. The place has become a little run down. Mind you I’ll eat in a good dive as long as the food is delicious. My mom was craving luncheon meat and eggs so off we went to Times. I decided to go with the shoyu fried rice and my wife had corned beef hash and eggs. This spot doesn’t judge how you’re dressed so don’t be surprised when you walk in. I like being able to go somewhere casual sometimes and relax and have a meal. Service is always friendly.

One of those places that I would likely have just driven past without a little local knowledge, but glad we went… No wait, staff was pleasant and the food was great! Must have the fried rice with eggs and bacon for breakfast. Delicious!!!

This is the spot! Honestly, I’ve lived in Kailua for more than 12 years but I only started eating here last year. Boy I was missing out! My best friend and I used to go here every Sunday morning, bright and early(7:15am) before church. I love that they’re up with the sun! The first time I came, I knew I had to order the fried rice, but I went with the waffles. I don’t know why I even expected Eggo waffle sizes but when I got my plate, I was clearly mistaken. Ummm it was the size of a freakin pizza! Lol I ate it anyway, it was super good. Next time I came around, I had an order of fried rice with over easy eggs and a side of portuguese sausage and bacon. Once again, I expected a plate with a scoop of fried rice with portuguese sausage, egg, and bacon, but NOPE. I got a huge mountain of fried rice on a huge-ass plate and smaller separate plate for my sides. Don’t worry though, if you want just a scoop of fried rice, just ask to replace the rice with fried rice on your order. Hahaha man the portions are awesome. I’m betting you can make everything that they serve at home, but there’s nothing like coming to a hole in the wall restaurant and being served genuine home style cooking with lots of love. Their coffee is awesome. My best friend and I have cups after cups of it. Nice place to just sit and talk story and catch up with a friend or read the newspaper while having a cup of joe with a hearty breakfast. Servers have been working there for years and if you come often enough, they’ll know you by name and that’s what makes it super special to us Kailua locals.

Visited this place with the fam on vaca last week, Loco Moco hit the spot! Chicken teriyaki was tasty, little too sweet. French fries was pretty darn good, must be type of oil. Even taste good when we brought em back to the hotel. Nice portions, reasonable prices. Will definitely return on our next trip!

I went here with my family and I enjoyed the food very much. I was wondering if the place was only known for the locals but then again my daughter(her husband stationed here at MCBH) said NO because Kailua is a tourists place. I got the Island Favorites mixed plate which is Roast pork with gravy and hamburger with onion. We love the food.

The first time I came to Times Coffee Shop, I had no idea what to order. I think I ordered steak and eggs, good, but nothing exceptional. Too bad I didn’t consult Unilocal before I went; if I did, I would have known to order the fried rice! ON my second visit, I knew better. I got the homemade corned beef hash and fried rice with over easy eggs. OMG, soooo YUM! The service is friendly, and the décor can either give you the homey, diner-like feel or put you off. It’s kind of old and shabby, but people don’t come here for the ambiance/décor. THey come for the food, the fried rice in particular. Now, don’t be expecting the slightly salty, dry style of fried rice that most chinese restaurants make. The kind of fried rice they make here is wet and sweet, kind of like how my mom used to make when I was little – super local. It has a bunch of goodies in it too, once you try it, you’ll keep coming back for it. The corned beef hash is also a favorite because they make it. I definitely prefer the homemade kind over the canned kind, and my boyfriend can’t stand the canned kind. a huge corned beef hash patty atop a mound of yummy fried rice and a side of eggs: heaven. My boyfriend gets upset when I smother everything in ketchup, but it’s obviously the best way to do it. Obviously, I can’t eat like this every day, but I will come by when I’m craving some fried rice and homemade corned beef hash. There is usually parking available unless you go during a rush, but it’s worth the wait if you do happen to come when it’s busy.

Came here in 2011 and have been craving the fried rice ever since, but have just not gotten around to it until this morning. Was delicious as I remember it! Would definitely recommend getting it with the loco moco as the gravy melds extremely well. We also ordered the banana pancakes and it was huge! They were on the flatter side(compared to Cinnamon’s) but still fluffy and crisp on the edges — yum! I also got a side of bacon and would not recommend to those who like their bacon thick and crispy. Four pieces for $ 4.95 is a bit steep for, what I feel like is, only a grade higher than microwavable bacon. We were seated immediately and our coffee was refilled several times! Would definitely recommend!
