Elvin’s Bakery

I went in to buy a loaf of bread a few months back at this location. I picked one up and asked the woman working if it was fresh. «Yes! It was baked fresh this morning,» she exclaimed with a smile. When I got home and got some out to serve, it was very much stale.
I was passing by today and saw a display on the door for red velvet cupcakes. Figured I’ll give them another shot. I picked one up and gave it to a friend an hour later. As soon as they bit into it they looked repelled and said, «Wherever you bought this, don’t buy it there again. This is stale.» Seems to be a trend with this location. If old pastry is what you crave, this is your place.

I love this place. I go here almost every weekend to get breakfast before I start work, and after work or on my lunch break if I have an afternoon shift. The best part about them is that as far as their foods go, it’s something different. Yes their baked goods are pretty standard; chocolate muffins, cheese sticks, ham and cheese rolls, ham and spinach rolls etc. but their deli foods are fantastic. They have their special sandwich with ham, turkey, pickled daikon and carrots, mayo, cucumber, and probably something else I’m forgetting, but it’s something I’ve never found anywhere else. Also they have salads and their tuna sandwich is amazing, I’ve never tried anything from them I didn’t like. Their soups are tasty, their breads are fluffy, and I’ve never been disappointed. AND they have espresso drinks, that come out way faster than the other coffee establishment in the shopping center!

Nice to know they have japanese style pastries all the way on this side of the island! Pigs in blanket came out fresh and chocolate donut was good. Prices were okay, they should be cheaper in my opinion. Than again, there catering to the Japanese tourist so meh, don’t mind since I’m only pop into Kailua on a rare blue moon.

Elvin’s Bakery is awesome. Especially their sandwiches. Every time I have gone the bread has been fresh and the sandwich is filling and delicious. It even comes with a little bit of olives and a pickle — so yummy! Also, their pastries are exceptional. The ambiance is nice and quiet and peaceful and service is prompt. The prices are a little steep for some items, but I think that it is worth it in my book. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed! :)

This asian bakery is incredible. They offer several savory and sweet options.
We got a pastry with coconut crème filling, and it was so delicious! The coconut flavor was subtle, and the pastry itself was moist and fluffy.
We also loved that it was self-​serve. Pick out everything you want with the tongs, and pay at the counter!
I wish I could have tried one of everything!

Lots of yummy selections @ reasonable prices. The cream cheese donut was a fav as was the blueberry scone. Apple Danish had fruit in every bite. Worth the stop.

Delicious pork bun and red bean bun! Keep in mind they bake fresh daily. We went back for more later but they were sold out of the good stuff!

Great bakery in Kailua… I’ve only been there for breakfast a few times; however, their breakfast rolls and pastries are delicious. Their cream cheese donuts are especially good and their meat/​cheese rolls are great little breakfast snacks. I have heard their lunch items are good as well but haven’t tried them myself.
If you’re from Kailua, perhaps you recall Craig’s Bakery. It’s not as good but it’s close which is good enough since Craig’s isn’t around anymore. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. It’s definitely worth a visit.

I was waiting for my take out at Aloha Salads, and once I walked out to make a phone call, I smelled the fresh lingering scent of BREAD! So, I obviously followed my nose into Elvins Bakery.
Yes. I did just say I was waiting on a salad, and now i’m going to eat some awesome bread, but don’t judge me. I’m a girl who loves her food! Healthy or not! ;)
When you walk in, its reminiscent of a japanese bakery, like st. germains, in the sense that you pick up your tray and tongs and you go around the small room filled with glorious little baked goods and place them on the tray. The prices are cheap and would make a nice snack if you were heading to the beach. I picked up some cheese rolls, a melon pan, a chocolate roll, and a couple other things. They all were wonderful and filling. My husband says not to compare them to japanese baked goods, because their a couple steps below that, but its as good as it gets unless you’re going to shirokiya in town.
On another occasion I got a cake for my boss here. It was a chocolate dream cake and it was made so wonderfully. The whole office loved how light, fluffy and delicious the cake was. We all had some hefty slices but it was not overly iced with crappy icing or doused with bad ingredients, it was a quality cake at a great price.
I love this bakery, and I am so happy its in my neck of the woods.

This bakery isn’t likely to blow anyone’s socks off, but it’s a decent stop for a quick pastry and coffee. Inside, it looks like the self-​serve pastry counter from most supermarkets, but with a few tables.

Eh… It was so-​so. I got there at 7:27, right before they opened the doors. I got one custard filled and one regular ring donut. Being that I was the first one there and they were ‘fresh out of the oven’, I expected better. They weren’t as moist and fluffy as what I’ve had at other places. I’d probably try a different place next time.

I have walked past Elvin’s before and today we decided to try them out.
It’s very clean inside, behind the counter the employees were very nice but didn’t interact much.
it reminds me of a Saint-​Germain bakery, you know the one — in Shirokiya at Ala Moana shopping center. From the light golden breads, meat pastries, and traditional doughnuts.
I tried the blueberry danish — yum
and a regular sugar doughnut — yuck (it was hard, not melt in your mouth)
the family had :
Vanilla horn — very good
Cheese bread — very good
prices were good. for three of us, 2 selections each. and the bill was around $ 10.50

Maybe ordering a sandwich was the wrong way to start with Elvin’s Bakery, but fellow Unilocalers assured me it would be yummy. Not even! And I was not sufficiently impressed to want to pay nearly double what I would have paid at the Subway two doors over.
The focaccia bread was fresh, although not all that flavorful. The amount of filling was skimpy. One piece of meat, one piece of cheese, one tomato slice, part of a piece of lettuce, one tiny smear of mustard. On the side they served me a tiny pickle and one olive. For that they charged me $ 8. Really?
The flavor was just OK – not good enough that I wanted to finish my sandwich. FAIL! If I return, I guess I will try a pastry.

A nice small bakery where you can have some coffee and pastry inside or sit outside and people watch. There’s limited seating inside (2 tables), but if you sit inside they give you real coffee mugs. I like to go there in the mornings to get iced coffee or Vietnamese coffee. (They use regular blend, no chickory, but it’s nice and sweet.)
They’ve got some really interesting and different things to offer such as Japanese style cheese cake, red velvet cupcakes, curry donuts, cream cheese donuts, portuguese sausage rolls, and cookies to name a few.
Besides their regular pastry they have really great seasonal pastry and cookies like gingerbread and sugar cookies during Christmas, and they make their own moon cakes (using their own mold!).
Try their furikake lavosh sticks. It’s great to munch on.

Holy Smokes! Their red velvet is so good! It’s a moist cake, cream cheese frosting that is not too sweet and not too dense — wowza! – It’s the kind of dessert you just hope to greet you in the morning as, «Oh! Breakfast!» or «Hmm, I should save some for my better half, but…” – it’s dangerously delicious! At $ 24 bucks for an 8» round, it’s a treat, but well worth it for a dinner with friends or a birthday something for a fellow cake-​fanatic.
I think I’ll have to try their Curry Pastries one day soon–

Elvin’s Bakery is that small town bakery on main street where you have to stop by for a delicious little treat, or cake, or sandwich for that matter! They offer stellar baked goods and great service at rather reasonable prices.
The bakery concept is very similar to Asian bakeries where you pick up a tray and pick and choose the items you wish to procure. The goods are different and some of the combination’s they offer are certainly special. The breads are light and fluffy while the danishes and other treats have that perfect crusty exterior and moist interior.
While I didn’t dine on any of their sandwiches, I did pick up a loaf of bread and let me just say it was very darn good. The sandwiches I saw ordered also looked incredibly good and mouthwatering, even after eating at Cinnamon’s down the road.
Service was good and prices were certainly decent and nothing to sneer at. Definitely worth checking out if you happen to be in kailua town.

Portuguese Sausage Roll — YUM! I came here late in the evening and they were almost all out of all their pastries, but luckily they had a couple portuguese sausage rolls left — yeah, I bought two for myself. :)
They have a great variety of fresh pastries, baked goods, breads and desserts to go and they also make fresh salads, and sandwiches.
Definitely going back for more!

The pastry was great and the staff was friendly. They sell an assortment of pastries that are similar to what you would find at a Chinatown around the USA. Their sandwiches are tasty and reasonably priced. It’s a great stop before you go kayaking or beach going in Kailua since the Kailua information center is right next door.
I recommend picking up some pastries before leaving.
Delicious clam chowder. Takes credit card, but I believe they have a minimum.

This is my favorite bakery to visit while I am back home. It’s a nice, clean setup; they have a plethora of unique pastries (e.g. Curry Donut, Portuguese Sausage Roll, Tuna Donut); and they make great sandwiches too.
I think the bread they use for their sandwiches is unique to their bakery. It’s comparable to a ciabatta, but much more soft and fluffy, which I love. Not to mention, the square shape and size is perfect — filling, but not overly so. I highly recommend the chicken sandwich (comes with a nice, light pesto spread) and turkey sandwich (comes with a nice cranberry sauce). All sandwiches come packed with fresh, crisp vegetables and this may seem like a odd point, but I love the fact that they don’t fall to pieces when you eat them! Everything in this bakery seems so pristine.
It’s a really quiet place with quaint, to-​the-​point service where you can enjoy a peaceful, low-​key breakfast or lunch. Their Vietnamese Coffee is delicious too.

On our way to the info center, we passed by Elvine’s window and the organized bakery items on the shelves, in their clear covered boxes called us in. What a find!
All baked items we tried were delicious!
We passed by later that day on our way back from Kailua Beach. It was about 2pm and the shelves were empty. I guess a few more people found the place. They had only desserts so we went for a Tiramisu cake which wasn’t that great, and strawberry shortcake we found not too sweet (in a good way), and not too heavy on the butter (even better) we ordered two more strawberry shortcakes and zipped some tea with it. Nice.
