I have been coming here ever since high school, and I will keep coming back. This is the epitome of a hole in the wall place serving cheap and tasty local food. I usually order their saimin, musubi, or a mix plate and switch off between the short ribs, fried chicken, or hamburger patties. The service is very good and they don’t skimp when you order your choices for a mix or mini plate. They also have fantastic sweet potato mochi when it is fresh and one of the best andagi I have ever had. I have came here all hours of the day, and they are busiest the moment they open(around 5:30); sometimes, there is a line out the door. The only criticism I have(that they can’t help) is the limited seating. Other than that, it is a great establishment and I will always think of Megumi as a large part of my life

The outside façade of Megumi has been freshened and redone to a modern bright blue-green, but the inside is still has the same homey atmosphere, and the food has not changed one bit. I hope it never does. Service is always friendly and helpful, and you can order to eat there or take-out. Hint: They start taking out the lunch items at around 9:30 — 10:00 am. There are about 6 – 8 choices for plate lunch, plus the standard musubi, sushi, tempura etc. Prices are very reasonable. I love this place. It’s so old-fashioned and still has that mom-and-pop feel.

Came here around 11am while we were waiting for our food at Jay’s next door and they were out of the spam and egg Masubi, but the sweet lady behind the counter immediately made me a fresh one! Super quick, super friendly, and will definitely be coming back to try their plates.

Small plate curry stew, rice, mac salad. Simple and ono. Go early. They close at 100pm, of course, so grandma and grandpa proprietors can go home after a long day with doors opening at 530am.

All I got to say is excellent sushi! When you go here you must order early, they sell out of sushi early in the morning. If you go later in the day, you might not get what you want because they run out of selection. Very popular with the locals. If you’re a regular, you would know to come early because they sell out fast.

I’d like to say these people who work here are the sweetest bunch of people. Especially mama-san who took the time out to always say Hi to my dad. Thanks for the special Andagi donuts dad would receive from you from time to time. He loved you mama-san.

Japanese okazuya style food, varied selection of food ala carte or plates available. Prices add up fast and its a cash only joint. Love the fact that they are open super early for thkse early morning fishing trips or before work food runs.

Ok… Tried it. The flavor of everything I bought was good. But be prepared. It’s expensive. I bought 2 maki rolls. One plate had chow fun and shoyu chicken. The other plate had Teri hamburger, nashime, and hot dog wrapped in egg. That’s it. $ 24 bucks. OMG. Won’t go there again.

I was actually going to the other okazuya down the road but, there was no parking so, up the road I went for the first time mind you, and I’m glad I did. The food tasted much better I will definitely be going back! !!

I only had the Miso Soup and I could not complain! I thought it was pretty good :) I didn’t give it a full five stars only because it was take out and I didn’t even pick it up. I could only judge the Miso Soup

$ 11 for 1 piece fried chicken, chow fun, 1 cone sushi and a maki roll? You tell me if I’m being too critical.

I grew up in Kaneohe and have never been here. Go figure! As I was driving to work the other day I came upon traffic in front of this store front and thought I need to Unilocal this place later. After seeing it’s good reviews & yummy photo pics I finally went here yesterday. Here’s what I ended up getting in my plate– Shoyu Chicken– tasty but not too sweet more of a shoyu flavor 2 maki sushi-yummy with good amount of filling Chow funn noodles-dry, 1 skinny piece of spam. Tasted like they only seasoned w/a little dashi Sweet potato tempura– very good Cone sushi– just ok. not very sweet, not much flavor Macaroni/Potato salad– way too much mayo! 1 small piece of potato 1 poi mochi– delicious! For a total of $ 10.37 Overall I’d say this is a like not love. Glad I finally tried it but I still prefer chi chans okazuya :)

This place is great their food is very tasty. I love the chowfun noodles, teriaki hamburger patties, and hash. Also the saimin is really good too. My coworkers brought me to this place. So every time I work this side, this is where I eat. They are closed on Sun & Mon.

I never knew of megumis till about 2 years ago and I’ve been living in Kaneohe my entire life(21yrs). I love okazuya style because it reminds me of when I was a little girl going with my dad before school to pick out different things everyday. Well now that I’ve discovered this place, I’m more of a breakfast person and I love their fried rice! For breakfast food, you have to go in before 10 am because I’m pretty sure they run out all the time. Sometimes I go in and there’s a line of people waiting to get food or sometimes there’s not, but the ladies at the counter are friendly and know how to get through a rush. Super cheap! I can get a good breakfast that fills me up for less than $ 5! Oh ya, CASHONLY! Don’t forget, the nearest ATM is windward city and you’ll have to do unnecessary U-turns to get there…

Ok, the sushi does taste good(rice made properly and vinegar-ed), however there is more rice than sushi ingredients. The maki yaki rolls had 1 to 2 time the amount of ebi and gobo in it. Essentially looked like a dime worth of stuff in the 3 inch diameter sushi. All in all, probably wouldn’t’ be my first lunch choice to eat.

Megumi has the best maki sushi in the state! I’m convinced. They also have bento and everything else you’d expect in an okazuya, but the sushi is what you come for. My family gets sushi from here ever new year’s and there’s a reason we keep going back for more! Yay! I’m a fan.

I’ve never been able to go, because It’s one of those unassuming, early morning, close by lunch, or when they run out of food, which ever comes first, old school okazuya. For a guy such as myself, who prefers«konnichiwa» over«ohayoo gozaimasu,» those hours are definitely«dame desu.» It must be good though, because I can’t remember it ever not being there. Please, if there are any early birds out there, write a review because I’m curious.
