I went to JP Wine Bar for the first time last night. My friend had a coupon and invite me to join her. It was fabulous! We got their 4 course tasting menu. I had the mussles appetizer & she had the crab dip — both great. I got the house salad for my second course — yummy AND it comes in a parmesean crusted bowl! I had the filet as my main course — very tasty. I chose the home made peanut butter cookie with chocolate for dessert — TODIEFOR!!! I think I may have dreamed about it last night! Oh, and the wine was good as well! I would totally recommend this place. It’s a bit pricey, but the food was great!

Favorite wine bar in Kansas City(sorry Boozefish). I have trouble riding my motorcycle here because I inevitably find new wine I want to try. Riding a Ducati after having a couple glasses of wine is not a good idea. I usually stick to the flights as I can rarely decide on just one wine. Although there are some premium prices, they are worth it. I also have to say I am almost glad that the location out south no longer exists. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to restaurants/bars opening up second or third locations in the ‘burbs. I get it on a business sense, but really.

My friends and I typically go here for happy hour when were in the mood for wine instead of mixed drinks. They have a phenomenal wine selection and it is often hard for me to decide in unless I come with something in mind so… generally like to try one of their flights of wine(and then get a full glass of my favorite out of the flight). Their appetizers are very enjoyable as well as their cheese flights. All go very well with various wine selections.

I am NOT a fan of the nightlife in KC. I’ll say this until I’m blue in the face. With that said, JP Wine Bar was so calm and peaceful compared to the ruckus and mayhem that is P&L just a few blocks up. We sat outside and while a lot of the times servers tend to forget about their outdoor patrons, JP’s was certainly not the case. Not only was our server extremely attentive(not the annoying attentive either… the«just right» kind of attention), she recommended drinks and apps without hesitation, and didn’t try to push us out of there as soon as we had paid.(That’s a HUGE plus in itself).

This place is a perfect example of customer service. One of the friendliest and knowledgeable staffs in the city. The food is great and the liquor selection is mighty. Great atmosphere with a good mix of people. A huge round of applause for having an outside patio. KC needs more of these. JP’s patio provides a nice mix of an urban/neighborhood feel. Go support this local establishment and experience some great service from a really friendly staff.

I really like this place. They have a wonderful selection of wine and flights. The deserts are pretty good. I didn’t find them exceptional or memorable much like the food I ordered. But it was very good. The atmosphere is good. Trendy and pretentious, just like I like it:) But here is what gets me, I actually feel insulted by their wine mark up. I ordered a $ 16 glass of Moscoto(please no lectures about how every restaurant marks up their alcohol. I know this, I am aware; I just think ‘their’ mark up is excessive). It was great glass of wine. I went the next day to buy the bottle at the store…$ 19.00. Look I get it, you are in a prime location, see and be seen and all that. But really… Great place to go with friends and I will be back, but I will not be a regular.

Well, living across the street from JP for the last several months, we FINALLY went! Not being drinkers, I think we have been less compelled to visit. But the food was really, really good! Presented well, and very tasty. We took our new doggie, and sat outside, so that was a nice treat for her(and us). **** Update **** OK, well the last 6 weeks has seen us get takeout food from JP several times, including tonight. And can I just say… WOW. Every time, great food, great preparation, and accommodating staff. Truly, good stuff. Am bumping to a 5. All in all, it was well worth the visit, and we will definitely go back!

I used to frequent JP Wine Bar nearly every weekend last summer, but for some reason if fell off the map. I was purty glad to rediscover it again recently, in all its whiny glory! The best part about JP is the service. Every single server I’ve ever had has been attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. The staff is a huge reason I come back time and time again. The outdoor seating is another reason I keep coming back. This location is an amazing spot to people watch and relax on an evening or afternoon. My only complaint is the prices. But, it’s wine. You(most of the time) get what you pay for. But hey, I’m a college student, so money is a precious commodity! The real reason why this restaurant gets 4 stars is because I read their website, came in expecting certain discounts, and did not receive them. The server I had last time did nothing to rectify the situation, and I was a bit bummed. #1) Have an up-to-date website #2) Apologize if your website is misleading customers All in all, JP is a good place, great location, and I will be back time and time again…

I love this place for the same reasons everyone else does. Great atmosphere, great food(cheese flights and hummus!), great wine. I love sitting out on the sidewalk where I can bring my dog and hang out watching downtown traffic go by as I sip some wine. But why oh why did they stop opening for lunch?! I LOVED going there for lunch! That plate of toasted cheese deliciousness…*sniff* I miss it so.

JP, you rawk my world! We decided to take our dog for a walk. After passing JP in our car earlier in the day and seeing the patio, we were thinking how wonderful it would be to enjoy some wine flights and sample some food. I called and they said that they were dog friendly on the patio. So, after a long walk, where our dog somehow found a sparerib bone that we had to wrestle out of his mouth, we arrived. We were seated immediately and our waiter came back several times as we were indecisive on what to order. No pressure(love that). After trying the dessert wine flight last time, I ordered the dessert port flight. I prefer the non-port, but it was still amazing. I also ordered the hummus with flatbread. WOW! This was some of the best flatbread(spiced) and hummus(2 different types) that I have ever had. Why do I really love this place? The ambiance. Even though you’re facing the street, you can see the P&L searchlights and do some people watching. It isn’t loud and the weather was just so beautiful around sunset. You feel like you’re in a more exotic city, not KC. This place is so trendy and metropolitan. The patrons: We had great conversations with our neighbors(3 different groups). Everyone loved to play with our dog. On the inside, you tend to have the people dressed up to the nines or for clubbing, while outside it tends to be more of a casual crowd. The staff: Very friendly, no pressure(if you are just talking and sipping your wine at a leisurely pace), and good recommendations. When I asked for extra flat bread for my hummus they gladly gave me some more at no charge. Most staff was all smiles and all give great service. They also brought out a water bowl for doggie. The food: Every bite, every morsel is heaven People Watching: We enjoyed watching someone parallel park for 10 minutes before our waiter rescued her and helped her park. She had a small car and enough room for 2 cars! I’m glad that I didn’t stick around for her pulling out after drinks LOL. Lastly, not only is this place dog friendly, but I only saw smokers outside the patio area. Sometimes I’m hesitant to eat on roof decks or patios as the smokers congregate there. Not so at JP! There has been some talk about financial issues that the owners have been facing. I’m hoping this place sticks around for a long time. It’s truly a GEM!

A perfect choice for my last night in KC — a great way to summarize what this city is all about. We came here on a Monday night and it was 1⁄3 to half way full, and continued getting busier as the night continued. For a Monday night I think that’s great. We scored a great table outside, ordered wine, apps, and entrees. Monday nights is buy one get one bottle free so not only did we drink our first bottle but we took our second one home and had it with dinner the next night. Already this was a great sign. For apps we ordered the foie gras and the crab dip… the food was ok… great presentation but nothing out of this world. I did enjoy the crab dip but it needed something extra… a kick of some sort. For entrees we got the lamb(that came with wine beans) and a steak that came with asparagus and risotto. Both dishes were EXCELLENT. The chef knows how to correctly cook meat. He even came out and said hello. Clearly he caressing great sign. We were thoroughly full and sat back and enjoyed our bottle of wine. Our waitress was amazing — friendly, honest, and attentive without being overwhelming. We didn’t feel rushed or pressured so we fully enjoyed the atmosphere. I will definitely come here again if in KC for wine, food, and entrees. I will, however, try other apps which I’m hoping(and pretty certain) will be better than the choices we made that day. Thanks JP Wine & Bistro for a great Monday night.

I know, I know, quite the difference in vote since my first review, but I went there last night & had a distinctly different experience. Went to meet a former client to discuss an upcoming project & ended up having a couple of glasses and talking about way, way more than work. Our bartenders were exceptionally courteous and patient with our jibber-jabbering, and were not intrusive or pestering about ordering things. As is my custom with wine I described what I was in the mood for and asked the über-hip bartender to find me a match. I asked for«something that tasted like blooming trees, but semi-dry». We talked for a second about Viognier and Torrentes but they had neither, so he said«I think I have something for you» and disappeared around the other side. He came back with an Albarrino that was fantastic, exactly what I felt like drinking. For whatever reason when I encounter a hipster in a setting that’s just too hip, I like to challenge them to see if they know what they’re talking about or if it’s all a façade. This little minx of a man definitely knew what he was talking about, the wine he selected for me had a perfect blend of acidity to counter the extreme floral nose, so I got what I wanted, a chilled glass of Spring. I’m not quite ready to give them 5 stars, but I’d definitely say they’ve come a long, long way in customer service.

I lurve JP Wine Bar. Lurve it. The wine/cocktails, the food, the atmosphere — all combine to form an experience that has yet to disappoint. One of the things that I love about JP is that you can tailor their offerings to meet your particular needs and desires for your visit. Small plates and a great martini for an after-work happy hour with a friend? They’ve got you covered. A romantic three-course dinner with your hubby in a cozy, sexy atmosphere? They’ve got that too. I’ve been to small company parties, charity event kick-offs, and just about every event in between here, and it always seems to fit. And the food is excellent. Current favorites on the menu: Coffee encrusted beef tenderloin salad with a gorgonzola vinagrette and roasted diver scallops with grilled artichoke hearts. De-lish. Their cheese flights always have a plethora of olives, dried fruits, pickled treats, and other delectable nibbles. The desserts are appropriately sized and usually the perfect ending to a good meal. Their bar staff is very knowledgeable about wine and cocktails, and are willing to take the time to share the knowledge with you if you ask. And I always love the wine flight concept so that I can try a few different wines without having to commit to a full glass. I’ve not had the same experience at the Leawood location — but I think that is primarily due to the change in ambiance. The food and wine seemed to taste right, it just didn’t «feel» as good.

I’ve been hearing about JP Wine Bar since I pretty much moved to the area but haven’t gone till recently. This place seems conducive to everything from a romantic date to a group getting together. Inside, it’s dimly lit with lots of candles, so you can clearly see what’s going on. There’s an outdoor patio, which is mostly used during warm weather and seems to fill up fast. There is a huge list of wines available here. If you’re not sure, you can pick from a wine flight. The wine I chose was available in the wine flight section but not by the glass on the menu, yet it wasn’t the slightest bit of an issue to get a full glass when I asked. Even if you think, «ewwwwwww, wine bar; I hate wine», I’d still suggest you check this place out. There’s a nice little cocktail list(with a delicious mimosa, among other drinks) and quite a few bars. Plus, they have some plates that looked absolutely amazing as they passed by, though I didn’t try any. Having been there twice, I think service depends on who you get. The pink-haired waitress is awesome and on the top of her game. Last time, we had a ditzy waitress who wasn’t really attentive and took way more time than it should take to get our drinks, despite the bar not being crowded.

This place is right on. Just as everyone has stated. Located two blocks south of P&L and only a few blocks from the heart of the crossroads, the location is very nice. I paired some nice French wine with some nice California wine and had myself a good evening. Don’t worry about talking to a stranger here, everyone is lovely. ps — skip the 119th location and go straight here.

My idea of a great date is copious amounts of booze fueled laughter. The laughing is the important part. That being said for the others at JP’s on dates Thursday(seemingly everyone around us by the swooney stares and quiet talking) if my idea of a great date impaired yours I apologize. The atmosphere is fantastic for meeting friends, enemies or maybe even someone new. The outdoor patio is spacious and would definitely be enjoyable this time of year. The bar itself is a large wraparound with a nicely selected beer and wine list. The whole space is thoughtfully put together and radiates a cozy intimate vibe. I tried several Sauvignon Blancs of the bartenders selection and enjoyed them all. The kitchen stays open late as well which I’ve made a mental note of because the menu looks tasty. Will definitely be back to JP’s for the full culinary experience since the bar was so enjoyable!

Visited this place last night and I have to say it really is a great bar/night life loation in the Kansas city area. Went wit ha bunch of friends where we shared a few bears and a flight of wine. I have to say that the entire idea between a flight of wine is great and the pricing is very reasonable given the quality of the wine. The only reason I don’t give this place five stars is that the food can be a little pricey, but definitely a great place to go sit down and spend a few hours any night of the week.

This is a great bar/coffeehouse with a great location. The architecture is cool and loft like, and the atmosphere is cozy and ‘urban’. I actually liked it more a couple of years ago when it was lesser known and all the suburbanites didn’t come downtown, but it is more lively I guess now that it is so popular. Very trendy, very original… a great escape from the Plastic P+L district!
