MacHeroes – K.C. Data Recovery

WOW! WOW! WOW! I have used Tom Willett and MacHeros for years, as has my entire extended family. They are incredible! More than once, they have literally saved a lifetime of important documents and invaluable memories from our computer when the Apple Store told us it was a lost cause. They make house calls, are timely, are professional and very friendly and are VERY PATIENT for those like me who have very little computer knowledge. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

Our «vintage» Mac desktop crashed, and our local Apple Store referred me to MacHereos to try and retrieve data from the hard drive. I was hopeful but not optimistic that our photos from the last 5 years could be rescued. Tom was not only able to retrieve our photos but ALL the data! I’m so grateful to MacHereos and would highly recommend them.

5 Stars all the way! I have never been so happy with a service in my life. My computer broke and I went to the Apple Store in Lenexa. The Apple Store wasn’t able to fix it and told me how complicated and difficult it would be to have fixed. Fortunately, the referred me to MacHeroes and I could not have been happier!!! The were able to recover everything I asked for! Tom was very personable and very careful while walking me through everything. I felt very comfortable with the process and I know I can contact them any time I need help. After going to multiple stores in Lawrence and Kansas City for almost two weeks, MacHeroes was the best decision I ever made. MacHeroes will be the only company I will go to and I will DEFINITELY refer them to everyone I know. Best choice I’ve made in my and my Mac’s life.

A week or so ago I somehow got liquid into my four-​year-​old MacBook (possibly condensation because it was in my air-​conditioned car while on a highway trip on a very hot day). In short, it fried. I took it to the Apple Store, which opened it up and found that the inside was wet, including the hard drive! Before leaving the computer with them for repair, I had to try to rescue the data on it – I had backed some of it up a while ago, but there was a lot of more recent stuff that I hadn’t backed up yet. Maybe a couple of years’ worth!
A couple of staff at the Apple Store gave me the name of MacHeroes, so I called them and made an appointment to bring my laptop over to them. I spoke with Tom Willets, one of the partners in the company. I dropped off the laptop at their office, along with a brand new external hard drive on which to load any recovered data. My laptop was there over the weekend, and on Monday afternoon Tom called to say that they had succeeded in rescuing all my old data! Major sigh of relief!
MacHeroes services do not come cheap. This misadventure set me back $ 475 for the data recovery. But these guys definitely seem to know their way around computers, particularly Macs, and apparently have a high success rate in recovering lost data. If they can’t, they just a charge a $ 60 bench fee for their efforts, no matter how long it took.
When I went to pick up the computer and external drive, Tom had the external drive hooked up to his own laptop so I could check through it to see if everything I needed was there. (They can recover your data, but not applications that were installed on your damaged machine.) In my case, it was. Tom also showed me how to save and reinstall the hidden files I’ll need to have access to all my old e-​mails, e-​mail addresses, and my browser bookmarks. If my old MacBook can’t be repaired (and it’s likely it can’t) I’ll be able to have all my previous data on its replacement! Tom also said that if I have any other questions or need some assistance setting up a new MacBook he’d be happy to help for free via phone or text. I can hardly ask for more than that! So even if it was expensive, it was worth it to know that nearly 4 years of data hadn’t been lost for good!
