Great place for a drink! Service is perfect and exceptionally friendly. Perfect company over a beer… Of course when slow enough to talk!

The Levee is a nice little spot to visit. I usually go on Thursdays, which is Reggae night. It’s a bar, so they don’t offer a lot of food options but they have plenty of drinks. However, they were out of Red Stripe the last time I was there. The atmosphere is pretty cool and laid back and the service is always good. I left my wallet there once and they held it for me at the bar. Most bars that I visit, whether they have a live band or not, don’t charge a cover, but The Levee has a $ 5 cover.

I’ve been here several times since my first review 5 years ago. The Levee is an interesting place. It’s kind of like a good dive bar combined with 70s funk and sports. They have good drink specials, average bar food, and an overall fun ambience. There isn’t much for vegetarian options here, but I recommend the quesadilla sans meat. I don’t really come here for the food, though. Weekends usually have bands and a cover charge. I recommend The Levee during weekdays(but not Monday’s or Tuesday’s when it’s normally closed). However, it is sometimes open for special sporting events, such as the World Series(which I’m currently here to watch). Go Royals!

Great live music!!! If you are wanting a night out without the craziness of P & L and want to dance. This is the place. Ages geared towards 30’s-60+. Dress code is whatever you feel comfortable in.

Live Bands & cold drinks is what first comes to mind. Had great service and everyone was polite and friendly. Just don’t drink & drive. Cheers!

Nice kitchen and great life music during Friday night. Two floors and a great outdoor area for smoking: everything is great in this place!

I love this place. I fell in love with this bar a couple years ago when I went with a friend to see a funk band play. There were people dancing on the dance floor. The music was unreal. The place was packed and there were only 2 bartenders(the only reason I can’t give this place 5 stars) so it did take quite some time to get drinks. There is an area upstairs with another bar, an area to smoke and some pool tables. Sometimes when I go, upstairs is dead and you can get your drinks quicker. Other times, the entire place is packed to the gills and it just takes 20 minutes to get a drink no matter what. But they always have great bands play. Cover is rarely more than $ 5. Very eclectic group of people here, too. You’ll see some 20-somethings, 30-somethings, 40+. Not your P&L crowd, though. No hipsters. Just good people wanting to have a good time.

I’ve driven by The Levee in the daytime for years and wondered if it’s still open. I found out last month that it’s still kicking. «Eric Clapton tribute» was all it took to get me in the door to see Rick Bacus and his band, which I enjoyed very much. It’s quite a small venue with two seating areas on either side of the stage, with a small dance floor in front of the stage. I was at the early(5 pm) show, and there appeared to be one bartender and one waitress for whole place, but they seemed to keep up alright. It was Christmastime and Nutcracker Ale was on tap, at a reasonable $ 5 I believe. I never saw a menu, but some standard bar-type fare was coming out of the kitchen that looked tasty. The mostly late-middle age crowd was happily reliving their high school years on the dance floor, and I was happy to have discovered yet another good place to hear live music.

Great bands playing, bartender did a good job making sure everyone had drinks even though the place was packed. Mixed age range. Definitely will be back

Visited friends in Kansas City this weekend and we caught a show by the cover band«sellout» there. The venue has a few different bar areas as well as an outdoor patio. If you like to dance, this is a great place to check out! They have a tiny dance area right in front of the stage which makes for an intimate show. The band«sellout» was amazing! Each member of the band dressed as a different musician/celebrity. ie-Kiss, Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy(Wizard of Oz) and Slash. The Levee is one of those«hole in the wall» places and definitely worth checking out. Nothing like grabbing a local Boulevard unfiltered wheat and dancing to cover songs!

I am not sure if the band was any good. When we called they said they start at 0900, so we got there at 915 and they told us 930 and took our $ 10.00, we finally left at 1000 without one song having been played. We were 2 of 4 people in the whole bar.

So here is my negative rant… we all get one(or a few) right(when deserved of course)? I have been to this bar twice. I have never recieved good service at the bar. I did not have the food. Let me just say, without a bias opinion of the place, I usually do not frequent places like this, but I always give a place a fair chance. If it is bad the first time I usually figure someone is having a bad day or it is not typical of the establishment. The second time if bad service happens again, I will more than likely never return. The crowd was«typical» for the establishment, if you know what I mean. Nothing cool, cultural, or eclectic about this place. I ordered two beers and a whiskey coke. It was about 11pm on a friday. The bartenders were very busy, which I understand, I was a bartender for years. With that being said, the one I had the pleasure of «enjoying», apparently did not like me. Maybe I wasnt dressed skimpy enough. He ignored me for about 20 minutes after we did not recieve one of our drinks. I did not say anything, I waited patiently. He returned with a scowl and said«Can I help you?» I politely asked for the drink we didnt receive. He left and came back slamming the drink in front of me not returning again. So we left. Not only was this completely disrespectful, there was absolutely no reason for the treatment. I will never understand when people are working for tips, even if they are upset about something, leave your attitude at the door and smile and nod or just get out of the service industry. Like I said, it may not be everyone working there or the establishment itself, it never is. It unfortunately ruins a customer(s) experience by one person who represents the establishment.

I absolutely love seeing The Good Foot, a «Kansas City Soul» group, play at The Levee, and they play there a couple of times per month. I always make sure to use the bar upstairs when they play, because downstairs is very crowded and difficult to get a drink.(Check out The Good Foot to see when they’re playing — definitely makes for a fun night out: ) My grandma hates hearing about any weekend plans involving a bar, but when I happened to mention THe Levee she was thrilled. She used to frequent the place as a North Kansas City HS grad and loved it, which makes me love The Levee even more. Only thing I’ve found worth complaining about is the lack of bathrooms.

Went on a Friday night — got there early to get a table a little after 9. The Good Foot played from 10 on and it got PACKED. Decided to ditch the table around 11 so we could stand in the back to get some air. The food was just okay — ordered a spin dip to munch on, which was more spinachy than I’d like, could have used a little more artichoke. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing though. I was pleased they served food ’til 1:30 a.m. Considering the size of the crowd and how hard it was to get from one corner to another, our service was impressively quick. Our waitress did a superb job, though I felt sorry for her having to deal with her already-too-tipsy customers who were quite rude to her. Seemed like it could get rowdy by the end of the night — by midnight, we had already witnessed a couple heated, drunken conversations; we were told by the musicians it gets much more wild as the night goes on. The music was amazing — the Good Foot puts on a fantastic live set — and I enjoyed the first couple hours, minus the crowd. After that, it just wasn’t my scene.

Pretty cool place with reasonable beer prices. Live music downstairs with a sports bar upstairs. First place I had Roaring Lion which is like poor man’s Red Bull. Worth a shot if you’re in the neighborhood.

This review is specific to The Carriage House, the building next door to the Levee that’s used to host private functions. Wow. We had a memorial gathering for a very dear friend held here, and I couldn’t believe how great the space was — the layout was comfortable, location was fantastic, parking was a breeze, and the staff at the Levee was so helpful — I have absolutely zero complaints. It’s definitely a little secret in the city. Had I known about it when I still lived in KC, I definitely would have hit them up sooner for a reception or two.

We skipped the conference planned«white night» in favor of The LeVee. It was a great time. Live Reggae band. Strong drinks. And delicious late night chicken nachos. Your late night music and drink indulgences will not be disappointed here.
