ATTENTION(especially minorities) It was Valentine’s night and we are sitting at TomFooleries right behind this young couple that orders something like nachos and a burger. When the burger took too long to come(about 25+ min), the guy nicely says never mind, just cancel it it’s almost time for us to go anyway. The waiter says ok, but after a few minutes, he brings it anyway. So when the guy refuses it and asks for the bill, the waiter catches an attitude and calls the manager. The manager then comes over and says verbatim«Well guess what… You ordered the burger and now your paying for it or I’m calling the POLICE.» So for obvious reasons the guy goes off as he sees the manager begin to walk toward the phone to ACTUALLY call the cops. Meanwhile the customer is angry as heck asking the manager«what’s wrong with you man? You can’t make me pay for a burger I haven’t even taken a bite out of… That’s not right(plus expletives)» Then the waiter comes back(the same guy we had) and says, «We’ll Uhm would you like that to go…» I was shocked because this was the same guy who was told not to bring it 5+ minutes ago when the customer asked for the bill. Obviously the customer said no, and then a shouting match began between them. Thank goodness the real manager showed up and cleared everything up before police arrived. He said don’t worry about the burger, I’ll take care of everything. I’m not even sure he knew the police were being called, but I hold him no less responsible for his staff and their behavior. Things then got calm, but everyone was still uneasy at the fact that rejecting food before it hits your table seemed to be cause to call police. After arriving, the cops thanked me for staying and telling the truth because the guy was pushing them to arrest him, which they made very clear to him and everyone involved that they were not going to do arrest anyone. To add the cherry on top, when the waiter came back and asked uswould we like separate tickets and we clearly replied«NO same ticket», he brought separate tickets anyway. It could have been that he was assuming either we were going Dutch on Valentine’s of all days, or looking for a bigger tip. Either is tacky. But I think he didn’t appreciate the fact that, we were the only people who had the courage to say something about the situation, and stand up for the guy who had every reason to be angry. Also, when we didn’t leave a tip(btw we tip 100% of the time 18−20%), because of the multiple incidents and his attitude about the whole incident, he walked off and threw the ticket on the ground and flicked the change back at me and it landed in my seat. He ninja pop vanished before I could get out of my seat, he was gone. So then I politely picked it up off the floor, grabbed my coat and asked for a manager before making my last exit. I wonder how many times someone has had the cops called because they canceled an order that has not even made it to the table yet. The answer should be zero, but if your brown, you might as well start a tally. I am not big on the whole making things about race, but this night it was thick and unmistakable. I urge you to express extreme caution with this place. Don’t try something you might not like or aren’t willing to wait for. Heck don’t go. I will never go back there. Felt like I was a french fry away from jail as a spectator. There are plenty of other places to get drink specials that are brown friendly. If I could I’d give then a negative 1,000 stars, because I’m still angry, shocked and appalled two days later, that’s why I’m writing a review. This experience needs to be heard and I hope everyone sees it. Hopefully they will do better in choosing their staff in the future. Thank to the one peacemaker of the whole incident. If he didn’t settle it, I’m not confident that my statements would have kept the young man from jail on Valentine’s Day. Signed, ThaKandyLady

Tomfooleries was probably one of the first restaurants I went to without an adult. It was amazing then but now every time I go back it gets worse and worse. I recently had the fish and chips and lettuce wraps to go and was very bummed out. I always hear people raving about fish and chips so I gave it a try here, but the fish was too chewy. It was just a very weird texture. However, the«chips» were okay. Also they didn’t warn me about the meat for the lettuce wrap being hot enough to melt it’s plastic container, they just wrapped it in tons of plastic wrap and when I unwrapped it, it spilled all over me. On top of that the last time I dined in, I ordered s’mores and I saw a baby roach on the plate. If there’s a baby there’s more! I’m most likely never going back.

Awesome place always busy and packed. Cheap eats good eats and drinks. Fried pickles burgers, spinach dip and chips. Only downside the music is really loud.

BEST brunch in town! The selection is amazing with breakfast items, a dessert table(chocolate fountain included!), omelette station, lunch selections, and a bloody Mary bar for those who are interested. We come here for brunch when we come to KC and love it. I’d recommend getting here early though as there’s usually a line waiting when they even open, and it gets busier as the morning progresses. You won’t be disappointed!

I stumbled in here and had the baked potato soup and half club sandwich. Both were delicious and far exceeded my expectations considering the reviews.

Ok, first off let me say this, Tom’s is usually good for the regular menu. They have even added some more items recently that are delicious(try the burnt end tots). Today I went in for Sunday Brunch that they serve buffet style. Not only was every item that I tried cold and disgusting but I was also surprised when I got the bill and they had up’d the price to $ 17.95(pretty sure I paid closer to $ 14 – 15 another time). I will never visit again for brunch! The waffles were dry, the chicken had NO flavor, the meatloaf(randomly tried the meatloaf in hopes that the lunch items were better) tasted like Tom chewed them up and spit it out and added ketchup, the omelet is always way too oily, the eggs were to mushy, need I go on? I made ugly faces throughout my meal. Very bad, Tom, very bad.

While in town on business and checking out the Christmas lights at the Plaza, this place looked like a good one to try for dinner that wasn’t a chain. There’s some good, different choices on the menu. I had the steak salad with grilled veggies. The steak was cooked perfectly and the veggies were grilled and seasoned nicely. It was a nice mix of mushrooms, potatoes, brussel sprouts, and tomatoes. The stone ground mustard vinegrette went very well with it. The service, atmosphere, cleancliness, and food were all spot on.

We were worried about it only having three stars but once we got our food we were so impressed and decided it would be our new«spot.» Very good quality and quantity for the money.

We are such fools to eat here! DONTDOIT! This is probably the worst food I have ever eaten. This is simply depressing. Price are decent but you are just paying for the portion and not the quality. Interior looks modern and cozy diner. –Nacho tasted like everything was from a can. 6⁄10 –Buffalo wings had a really thick coat of «crispy» skin with a sweet sauce. 5⁄10 — The green salad tastes plain but sometimes you get a hint of sugary«citrus» sauce and squishy warm brussels sprouts and dried burned chicken breast. 6⁄10 — Shrimp artichoke pesto pasta was so plain that’s depressing 3⁄10(literally only had the shrimps) Seriously go somewhere else. If you want to save money, Denny’s and even McDonalds would probably satisfy you more than this. I’m really confused with people’s taste in Kansas.

We’ll start with service — eh. I like to sit at the bar because I love the interaction with people. Sad… An older guy at the end of the bar was humiliating and degrading 2 younger females. My friend and I brought it to the attention of the bartender and the response was… He’s a regular, we don’t really know what to do. :( Food and beverage — it’s plaza pricing so it is what it is. Tasty :). And $ 5 personal pizzas look yummy too.

There are so many great restaurants on the Plaza. I’d been past Tomfooleries before, but never stopped in. I’m glad I did, although the price was high enough to make this a treat rather than an everyday dining place for me. From an appearance standpoint, Tomfooleries is a beautiful bar… and a beautiful restaurant. Being the time of year it is, the restaurant was especially beautiful decked out for Christmas. There are two floors, although I was seated on the first and didn’t have an opportunity to see the second. I was intrigued by the Peanut Butter Burger. I understand this is a Kansas City specialty and I was almost tempted by it… almost. The waiter recommended the five cheese fettuccini with blackened chicken, however, and I was sold. The fettuccini was fantastic! The sauce was perfectly cheesy and creamy and the chicken added an extra layer and made it a more complete meal. The hostess seemed a bit distracted, but the waiter provided exceptional service. He was upbeat and positive the entire time, seemed to know his menu, offered a few recommendations and was accommodating without being pushy. The only drawback for me was the cost. Alone, my meal cost $ 16.00. Its not a terrible price, but its more than I typically spend unless it is a special occasion. It is also more than I anticipated for a restaurant /bar combination. All being said, I can’t wait to return… and try the peanut butter burger!

So many bad Unilocal reviews? I had the best service sitting at the bar. Thought my meal was great as well.

Reason for 3 stars is due to still not really liking this place but willing to eat here if needed. Both times someone asked me to meet them here. Dishes are fairly priced and the sizes are good. First time I had chicken strips and waffle fries. You can assume what that tasted like. It’s double dipped which makes a good crust, and you can’t go wrong with waffle fries. Second time I got salmon over cauliflower mash! Ok look I love it when it looks like carbs, taste like carbs but it isn’t !!! Freaking win! Ok so this tasted really good and if back this is what I will order Staff very friendly. The place feels like a basement. Bathrooms are really nice but the water gets super hot and will burn you. Cocktails are decent. Overall I would say this might be a step up for chilies maybe even two up on Applebee’s.

Seems to be the typical American bar food type restaurant with average service. This place becomes pretty busy later in the evenings of weekend days. Drink selection is fair, but a bit pricey. Then again, we are on the plaza. They have $ 5 personal pan pizzas from 10pm-1am. I ordered the srirachia chicken, which I honestly won’t order again. There were way too many flavors at once, with peanut sauce, a white sauce, zucchini, large chunks of chicken, carrots, and bean sprouts. My taste buds were confused. should have known to get something more normal.

I can go either way. We stopped in while bumming around the plaza on a Friday night to check this place out. It wasn’t bad, but not going to rush back. We sat at the bar and I had a Starburst drink and my husband had an Old Fashioned. He likes his a little less sweet, so it wasn’t his cup of tea. My drink was decent, but a little off. The service at the bar was middle of the road, not too friendly, but that was fine. We didn’t stay long, which was fine with me. If it were the only place in town, I might go back, but it’s not a must stop for us.

A group of us went out and had drinks and food. It was normal bar food. Chicken sandwich I had was 2 stars but the fries were 4 stars. The waiter was high. No joke. Literally high. Messed up every order. Food all late and coming out one by one. He could not get the bill straight. Manager who was a good dude took care of it and sent him home. It was strange for sure.

So I’m a bit of a Unilocal snob and tend to avoid restaurants with average/below average ratings but I came here with a large group for happy hour on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by what Tomfooleries delivered. The food here is good! The menu is huge and so there is plenty to choose from which kind of makes things difficult in my opinion. They offer really great happy hour deals on food and drinks. Though I didn’t choose something off of the happy hour menu for my dining experience, what I did order tasted great. It wasn’t mind blowing amazing but it was good. I think what gets this place 4 stars and not 3, is the great and friendly service on top of the decent grub at quality prices. If you’re roaming around the Plaza and stumble upon this place, give it a try, I think you may be pleasantly surprised by a great dining experience. I think the next time I’ll be back will be for their Sunday Brunch which I think may be great!

Nice little stop in the Plaza for my wife and I. Tomfooleries is a nice sports bar on the Plaza with a very unique and varied menu. It took us a while to decide what we wanted to eat because there were so many great options. I ultimately decided to go with the steak special and the wife went with the Overlander sandwich. We also got the chicken strips for an appetizer. Everything we ate was pretty good. My steak had quite a bit of fat on it, including some inedible bits. It was flavorful though. My wife really enjoyed the Overlander sandwich. However she passed on the pickles. She normally likes pickles, but these were pretty spicy. We thought about getting the burnt ends and tots app, but with my aversion to onions, it wasn’t feasible. The onions are baked into the tots. Still, this is a nice place and I think we will be back to try some of the other interesting items on the menu.

Very vibrant, especially on a Monday night. Located close to a few hotels in the area. Great prices and good beer specials. They have craft beers and a diverse menu. They serve large portions so come hungry. Also, the upstairs has giant Jenga and Buck Hunter!!!
