I recommend seeing Winnie for all your hair needs. Shes good at what she does, and now a days it’s hard to find a good hair stylist. Five stars because Winnie of course :). Also I love the look of this salon, how updated and clean it is. There customer service is great as well. So nothing more to say, but go check them out! ;)

Never did write a review, but this I felt the need to. Amazing service. Better results. Went in with extra long (pass the booty), VIRGIN hair and wanted to do something different. Shari worked her magic and I walked out happier then ever. Made some layers with balayage 2 tone color. Will definitely be returning (:

After years of going to regular hair cut places, my boyfriend convinced me to find a salon and a hairstylist that will take care of my hair. I’m so glad I actually listened to him for once because I wouldn’t have found Winnie & Mehana Salon.
I like to stalk the Internet and research before I make commitments on anything. I searched Unilocal for somewhere close to home. The reviews here were fantastic and decided to check out the pics posted. After seeing Winnie’s work and looking at her Instagram, I really liked her work and decided to contact her.
Our first session we just did a hair cut and talked about coloring my newly virgin hair.
Second time she did a balayage ombré. I had no clue what it was but Winnie was great at explaining it and recommending what she felt would look good with my hair type.
Third visit — we trimmed and went RED
And now, my most recent visit, I told her to chop it all off! She was a little more nervous then I was but I was set on chopping it. Hehe. The cut came out great and I couldn’t be any happier.
I recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Close to home (for me), clean, great new neighborhood & friendly attentive workers who really explains everything and talks story with you like you’ve known each other forever.

Love the salon in the heart of Mehana. Prices are competitive and service is great.

My siblings and I wanted to give our disabled mother a makeover for her Christmas present. I began looking for places that would meet all of our needs and I just want to say this place did not disappoint! We went in completely clueless as to what kind of style she should get and I didn’t know if I should put all my trust in the stylist since it was our first time there. But that all changed when we met Young.
I love Young!!! She is amazing, patient, honest, and she truly cares about her clients! I made a suggestion early on that maybe my mother should get highlights (because I thought hey that’ll be different) and instead of Young taking my money and going along with this awful suggestion she explained why that wouldn’t work. She truly cared about giving my mother the best service and making sure that my mother left with a hairstyle that could be maintained at home. But it wasn’t only the hair that she took care of, she truly went above and beyond in customer service and took wonderful care of my mom. At the end of the visit my mother had stopped calling her Young and would only describe her as, «My Angel».

Today was my first time at Mehana AND my first time dyeing my hair. Great customer service and hospitality. Asked for a reddish balayage-​ombré and Winnie took great care of my hair. Told her that I had virgin hair and she knew exactly what to do. Kinda had to splurge for the price, but it was TOTALLY worth it.
The salon is also very clean and well maintained. Location is perfect for those on the West Side of the island who don’t want to drive out to a good hair salon.
I will definitely come back to Mehana again.

Cynthia did an amazing job! Beyond satisfied with the results, love love love my hair. It helped to go in prepared with a ‘look’ I had in mind. Obvs it won’t turn out exactly like the picture because the chics pic I had is a super blondie, but she she worked with my kinky curly hair to the style I had in mind and did wonders. She gave me great advice on care too. All in all, Mehana never dissapoints, great customer service, and solon experience, Cynthia I hope I spelt your name right, you are bomb dot com

I made a last minute appointment for a simple hair trim with (Mandy) I have long hair all the same length with long layers. I asked for just a trim about ½″ off. What I got was the worst hair cut ever. The stylist (Mandy) cut the front of my hair almost to my chin and left the back long. That’s not the worst. There was not an even transition from the front to the back but large uneven chunks out of my hair. Is was awful I will never go back. It has now been 6 months and I went back to my regular stylist to even my hair out. He said that he hasn’t seen this bad of a cut in a long time. I ended up having to cut all my hair off to shoulder length to fix the bad cut from (Mandy). I should have went to super cuts I would have gotten a better cut.

MANDY is out hairstylist and she always does an AWSOME job! She know how to get it done and fast. She always cuts and colors our hair just the way we want and if we ask her about a style or color she is totally upfront with you, so you know it’s not all about the money but making us happy and LOOKING AWESOME!

Let me just say that every time I come into this salon to get a service I NEVER walk out disappointed! The stylist here know what they are doing & they always take their time when working on your hair. The very first time I went to the salon to try it out, it was Marcy who helped me. She really took her time on my hair. Soo sad that she no longer is @ Mehana. But it didn’t stop me from trying out another stylists there.
This time I kind of called last minute to see if someone could take me in for a haircut. Surprisingly one of the stylists there name Rose was able to take me in. & she did such an amazing job on my hair! She educated me on how to keep my hair more healthier and she really took her time on cutting my hair! I previously had my hair cut at another Salon back in April & the cut was real fast and it did not turn out to be a good hair cut but Rose really took her time and made sure she crossed checked her work & really made my hair feel so healthy and flow way better than when I walked in! I don’t know why I didn’t just stick to just coming here instead of trying out another Salon!
What I also love is that they ask you if you need water, tea or a magazine while they cut your hair. Rose also talked to me while she was working with my hair and really made me feel comfortable while I was letting her work with my hair! Most def will stick to coming to this salon instead of going elsewhere!

2 weeks in & my hair still looks amazing! I seriously love love love it! Thanks Sherrizzle!

Shout out to Sherry for being amazing!!!
Biggest things that stuck out to me:
Friendliness: before when is get haircuts it’d be really awkward to talk to the stylist. Sherry could talk about anything and it honestly made the haircut so much more fun and easy to go through with.
Service: it was really good overall. I mentioned that I was planning to donate my hair and she was more than stoked to get a ruler and a rubber band to help me out! Nervous, but honestly the cut came out to something I actually really like.
Music: I know it’s not a big thing but made being in the salon so much more enjoyable
Money well spent!

I went back and forth about writing this review due to the immense guilt I feel for visiting another salon… yes, that «cheating on your boyfriend» feeling! You know what I mean!!! I LOVE the salon I have gone to for years and the owner who has been doing my hair that I adore but sometimes life happens. As a SAHM who rarely gets time alone away from the kids commuting to nearly Waikiki from Kapolei for a cut and color was getting more and more difficult. Which means going longer and longer between cut and colors…
I finally couldn’t take the frump any longer and booked an appointment here. Due to some scheduling difficulties Rose ended up doing my color and Yong did my cut. I had a family reunion to attend later in the day so I mentioned that I really would appreciate their careful attention to prevent any stray stains on my skin (dark hair, very light skin). Luckily both the color and cut came out great! Rose is the sweetest lady ever and Yong was cracking me up! So relieved and happy that this salon delivered so close to home.

I am a «Sherry» client for life! A little background on me before I talk about my experience: I’m 9 months pregnant, I have super thick and pretty long «Pele» hair, and I hadn’t «done» my hair for almost 2 years. With that said, I am so amazed and grateful for hairstylist Sherry Saribay. It was my first-​time going to Mehana and she did an unbelievable awesome job. I was referred to Mehana from a friend and told me to see if I can make an appointment with either Sherry or Winnie because their beautiful work with color. I was able to steal a last-​minute appointment with Sherry and thank goodness! Throughout the entire time, Sherry was always asking and checking to make sure I was ok: need water, use the bathroom, stretch, etc. And at 9 months pregnant and taking about 4 ½ — 5 hours to complete my session, that exceptional customer service is greatly appreciated! I wanted to do something different with my maternity shoot coming up and told Sherry that I was thinking about blonde highlights. I’ve had partial blonde highlights before, but wanted a full set and a really different look. Sherry recommended a balayage, or sun-​kissed, look. It turned out AMAZING. I’ll let the photos speak for itself :) Worth every penny and my bill to do my hair (not with tip) was $ 205. And guess what? I’d happily pay that again for these results and exceptional customer service. Since she does amazing work, Sherry is booked pretty early on. While getting my hair done, I met two of her clients and they had nothing but great things to say about Sherry and they’re regulars. If anything, I recommend calling at least a month in advance and ask for SHERRY!
Other info on the Salon: It was easy to find street parking, but maybe because my appointment was in the middle of the day. It’s clean and has a cool look and vibe to it. The other hairstylists were friendly and overall, the place and people made me feel very comfortable.

I feel badly for writing a negative review, but that’s how I feel about my experience. I really wanted the magical experience that others seemed to have had but that’s not what happened. I wasn’t treated poorly and I don’t have to go elsewhere to ‘fix’ a botched job or anything, but it’s less than what I was hoping for. While the salon itself seems really nice and professional, and the girls working all seemed very nice, I don’t think the work did on my hair was worth the $ 115 it cost. I wanted a dye to black and a simple cut to trim off some of the ends. The reason I didn’t go buy box dye and do it myself is because I wanted to avoid getting black color everywhere on my skin– face, neck, etc. I know black is a bold and noticeable color if it stains, but I would assume that paying over 100 for a service would mean that the mess on my skin after would be less than if I had done it myself. It looked okay in the salon but once I got to my car and saw myself up close in my rear view mirror, I saw dye all over my face and ears and on my forehead hairline, creating a really funny and ugly look of a helmet of dye framing my face. It was quite embarrassing and I scrubbed my skin raw with toner trying to get it off of my face. The pride of wanting to show off my new do was quickly gone as I wanted to hide my face and hairline because I looked so stupid. Later on when I put my hair up, I noticed more patches of dye all over the back of my neck and ears– I had to ask my fiancé to help me scrub it off.
My actual cut isn’t bad. My HAIR that is dyed is nice. But it seems really unprofessional to leave a client with dye all over their body and not even acknowledge it. My hair cut came after the dye, so I know she had to have seen it. And at the very least it could have been something she mentioned [if it’s ‘common’] and suggestions on how to get it off my skin– because I rubbed it raw trying to do so. Additionally, it was a weird vibe as I was paying. I tipped on my credit card transaction and when I handed it back to her she seems really quick to grab it back and check that I tipped [since I didn’t have cash to hand her for a tip]. Also the stylist never introduced herself to me officially, so I didn’t know her name until another employee addressed her. I don’t want to mention the name because I don’t want to embarrass and bad mouth anyone online, but if the establishment reached out to me I would let them know.
I’ve gotten my hair dyed black professionally before, and the stylist took measures by applying what I think was conditioner or vaseline to areas that commonly stain. They also scrub in the places that are stained as my hair is getting washed. Neither happened today and I came home trying to clean up the mess from the service I paid quite a bit for. Disappointed, as I don’t normally spend this much on myself for ‘beauty’ and I didn’t feel as pampered as I had wanted to feel.

Can this be? Is this reality? Have I found my go-​to stylist on the Westside? The answer is yes! I have been going to another salon on the Eastside, which included traffic, booking way in advance, and completely beautiful hair results. However, I have always wanted to see a stylist closer to home and see the same beautiful results. I have tried several different stylists and I just didn’t feel a connection or that they were passionate about their job.
Then Unilocal led me to Mehana Salon. I was actually looking at the reviews of another salon and read that one of the stylists moved to Mehana. I took that as a green light. I called to make a reservation and luckily got a spot the next day with Winnie. I got lost because my phone’s GPS led me to Kapolei High School (haha), but I was able to find it on my own no problem (thank goodness there were signs). I discovered customers can park in the loading zone, so no need to park on the street!
Winnie listened to what I wanted and my expectations of this experience and she did werk on my hair. She told me what she was doing each step of the way. I was glad she made her own suggestions, because I don’t know too much about hair or trends. After my hair cut and color, she showed me how it would look straightened and with messy curls. I really appreciated this because she took the time to show me both.
Just beyond happy with my hair. I am so ready for my trip to the mainland this week. Please give Winnie and the ladies at Mehana a try.

Rose does it again! We thoroughly discussed my cut and color, then she delivered perfection. She will make you feel comfortable like no other and will be sure to let you enjoy a relaxing day at the salon! This was my second visit with Rose, and I highly recommend seeing her :)

Located in a subdivision where owners can live and work under the same roof, it’s like going to visit an old friend as you drive through the residential area. Follow the Awakea Sales Center and Mehana Salon signs. Street park or park in the area in front of the salon near the mailboxes. Be sure not to park in the cul de sac; although there are no houses at the end of the street, they do issue tickets!
As you step over the threshold, you cross over into a salon that boasts the frills you expect of a full service salon with the warmth of a small town barbershop where stylists warmly greet you and offer you a drink… non-​alcoholic of course!

For years I have gotten my hair done by a family member. But this weekend I was in desperate need of some color and highlights that’s where Mehana Hair Salon saved the day.
New and beautifully furnished I didn’t feel like I was walking into a salon. I felt the homey feeling I do when I see my family relative. Each and every staff member carried excellent and genuine customer service. I was constantly catered to here and that’s what you like to feel when your going to a salon. I hate feeling like a number and I truly never got that feeling at all here. The stylist that worked with me is named Shasteen and she was truly amazing. I explained to her my meticulous demands and she 110% delivered and my hair is exactly how I wanted it.
Seriously check them out! There having a grand opening towards the ending of July! Everyone needs a new look this summer
