I read all the reviews about how this place was like Panchos. That’s what made me want to try it. I remember going to Panchos as a kid and being amazed at how things work. Needless to say we didn’t eat out much. Panchos was a treat for us. I tried 2 Amigos hoping for the nostalgia that I imagined it might bring. This place did remind me a lot of Panchos. The nostalgia wasn’t exactly what I expected though. The food was okay but not great. I guess that should be expected. I imagine that maybe the food at Panchos wasn’t that great either, but it was a treat to be out so I loved it. I guess the experience wasn’t what I made it in my head so it was a tad disappointing. The price was a bit high for me too beings as the good wasn’t that good. I should mention that instead of the flags like Panchos had to request service, 2 Amigos has a lamp. The lamp had a button on the top to push. The top of the lamp was so dirty that I had to use a paper napkin to push the top. Also, the bathrooms were pretty clean but the lock on my stall did not work and I got walked in on. I’d go go back if I were invited by others, but don’t think it would be my choice.

The food here, even though it is a buffet, is fresh and delicious. And if you liked the old, Veterans Blvd. old, Pancho’s, this us the place to go.

Bottom line I was hoping to eat a whole bunch of Mexican food all of the food was tasteless and bland I was so disappointed yes I was looking forward to you all you can eat sadly to say everything was tasteless and bland just the staff was very friendly and the ladies would be very prompt and accommodating the items I requested from the buffet and bring them to my table. However, as hard as I try to like something there everything was tasteless and bland. Finally one of my guest said they could not stand the food and wished we had gone to Golden Corral believe it or not if this is the one on my scale Golden Corral is a four on my scale just to give you a gauge of comparing food buffets. I am sorry that I have to give this place a 1. I always feel bad for every employee that is working hard. However, the manager and supervision that they follow as far as the cooking and prepping of the food is concerned needs to immediately be addressed therefore if you want tons of glop tasteless and bland food then you’re at the right location.

Nice addition to the Kenner food scene. Reminiscent of Pancho’s Buffet. Good service and decent food at a reasonable price. Worth the trip.

I could on all day about all the reasons why I love 2 Amigos. Suffice it to say, I’m a huge fan. Very similar to Pancho’s, which is nice because I always loved it. About standard price, but the food is fantastic. I tell everyone I know about this awesome eatery.

One of the members of a community that I run let me know about this place. He said that«ponchos lives on» and my mind immediately filled with good and vivid nostalgic memories of being a child and being taken to ponchos as a child. I promised myself that when I made my way back to the Nola I would try this place out. Today was that day. I walked in and the familiar aroma of cheap buffet Mexican food quickly hit my nostrils. I was pleasantly surprised at how the service closely mimics the original ponchos. So why did I give this 3 stars? Well, it’s just not quite… ponchos. It’s close, but it’s not the same taste that remember growing up. I used to be a huge fan of the«sopapia»(sure I spelled that wrong). But at this one, they are small and thin. The flautas aren’t nearly as good they were when growing up. The cheese enchiladas were very bland. To make it worse, the atmosphere just wasn’t the same. The old ponchos had more of a courtyard feel to it. This is just some hole in the wall with ponchos thrown on the wall. At the end of the day, the food is not bad. It’s not not like the ponchos I remember. It’s good for cheap Mexican cafeteria food, but don’t go expecting anything more.

I was really excited to try a place that was like Pancho’s of back in the day, I should have passed… It is expensive(almost $ 16 for lunch) for the quality of food you get and everything kind of tasted the same, weird. The servers in the food line were nice and friendly as were the table attendants, that was the only redeeming thing about my visit.

I just really miss Pancho’s when it all comes down to it and I was hoping this place would cure my Pancho’s nostalgia. This place is LIKE Pancho’s in almost every way possible complete with lamps that you touch for more sopapillas, large buffet options, all you can eat buffet, cheesy Mexican décor, etc. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t AS good as Pancho’s, or at least not as good as my memory of Pancho’s. Pros: The service was REALLY impressive actually. A team of women were working there and they were all incredibly helpful. If you touched your lamp and needed something else but just didn’t want to get up yourself, they would happily go grab it from the buffet for you, and as much as you want of it. Also, there is a free ice cream machine available and beer/margarita options. Fridays are apparently $ 2 frozen margaritas all day if that excites anyone. Cons: The place is pretty dirty, you can tell they don’t clean a whole lot here but the building seems pretty old as well. Sopapillas were okay but not fluffy like I remembered Pancho’s were. They were more flattened and stiff even though they came out hot and didn’t appear old or anything. When it came to the food, well, I got the«all you can eat» buffet… not because I was starving enough to make it worth it, but because I wanted to sample a little bit of everything, and I did indeed sample pretty much everything. Unfortunately the food was all just super bland and tasteless to me. I sampled the enchiladas, the flautas, the chile relleno, the tacos, the burritos… they ALL taste the same… which was very little taste at all. I did ask for hot sauce which sort of helped give it a little something… anything was an improvement. I was really hungry when I got there and super excited to try everything but I just didn’t end up eating much of it because none of it taste very good. I must also add that this is coming from someone who actually likes Taco Bell so this really is not about just being too picky about cheap Mexican food, because I happen to LOVE cheap Mexican food. Actually, I think I’ll just go to Taco Bell next time I want cheap Mexican food in mass quantities. It’s a shame though because I really wanted to like this place. Maybe if you never tried Pancho’s and therefore didn’t have that specific expectation you might like it better? I don’t know. It just didn’t work for me I guess.

2 Amigos is a cafeteria style dining establishment with a quirky Tex-Mex food vibe. You grab a tray head through the line, and pick out WHATEVER you want to eat. Everything is tasty and the prices are not outrageous. After you finish your first plate, you can tap a little light and the server will come over and go back and get you more of whatever you want to eat. So. if the line seems long, never fear, it is worth it. Most of the dishes are cheesy and or saucy. Im not going to debate the authenticity of genuine Mexican food,(because many of those restaurants serve chicken nuggets… and what is a nugget anyway?) but this is comfort food for anyone who has lived in this area for any length of time. If you remember Pancho’s on Veterans, then you already know 2 Amigos!(I personally think the food is better) If you are from out of town and in the mood for a local tradition, then give it a try, Try the cheese enchilada and add some salsa… My personal favorite.

It’s decent Mexican food. I decided to visit after finding out the same people who own this place use to own pochos on veterans. The cheese sauce is a little different and instead of flags they have little lights. The best thing to get is the hard tacos. Just be sure to mention you want guacamole and sour cream before they add the meat. They will add the meat and not leave enough room for the toppings unless you tell them before. The next best item is the tamales. They are decent. If you add a little salsa they bring to your table it makes them not so dry and seasoned perfect. The salsa delivered to the table is slightly watery. It is not chucky. I prefer mine mire like pico, however the salsa is not bad. It is well seasoned with cilantro and garlic. Plus plenty of tomato. The soffapi, not sure how to spell, is decent. It is light yet crisp. They provide you with honey and butter you can add to taste. I personally love to break mine and add honey inside then cut open and eat. If you are looking for a family friendly place, all you can eat with soft serve, at a decent price this is the place to go. Plenty of parking in back, wait staff is attentive to the light, all you can drink soft drinks, all you can eat including soft serve. What more could you ask for?

Ok, so 2 Amigos is basically a reincarnation of the old Pancho’s, just on a slightly smaller scale. They have most of the good stuff — flautas, taquitos, tamales, enchiladas, tacos, etc. And they have the free soft serve, but with no toppings *sadface.* BUT, it’s pretty good. We had an assortment of the above items, and were pleased for the most part. I will say though that I do miss raising the flag to summon a waitress. Here you turn on a little electric lantern — not nearly as cool or fun. The all you can eat buffet is $ 12, but they usually have a coupon on FB that you can show the cashier. And that’s not the worst deal for all you can eat. Without a true Pancho’s anymore, this place will do just fine.

I gave it 4 Stars… Like it says«Yay! I’m a fan» Just that, if you liked the food at the old Poncho(Pancho or Poncho??) Mexican Buffet then you are going to like this place. Small hole in the wall but pretty much to same concept. They must have selected the most popular items to offer customers. It’s not overwhelming you walk through leisurely making your request. They do offer other menu items if you’re not the buffet type. If you’re in the mood for that old Poncho Mexican food … go for it! They did this right by going small and bringing back the line! If you’re not familiar with area you will miss their location — for locals it is the old come back in on Williams Blvd.

What else can I say, it’s Pancho’s 2.0, but so much better. I remember all of the great times I had going to the Pancho’s on Vets as a kid. Fun for family, friends, whatever you wanted. Then they closed. Then that awful buffet style Pancho’s opened up near Airline, then that closed. So, here I was, thinking that the only shot I had at enjoying another Pancho’s meal was to wait until we were out in Houston for something. But then I discovered 2 Amigos. This restaurant is owned by the same guys that used to run the Vets Pancho’s, and they brought back all of the great food from before. Only, it’s fresher, since this is a private business and not part of a chain. The food on the main line is almost identical to the old tastes. I found the sour cream enchiladas to actually taste a lot better than I remember them. Instead of the little flag, you turn on a small table lamp. I miss the flag, but the lamp serves the same purpose, getting more hot and delicious food to your plate. Now, to all the so called ‘foodies’ out there, yes, this isn’t gourmet by any stretch. It’s just good, honest food served at a fair price. Things I do promise you’ll encounter though are a great time(this place is loud and fun, great for a second or third date, or a place to bring the kids to eat until their hearts are content for less than $ 5.00), you will be full and your wallet will not take a beating. So head on out to Kenner(brah) and enjoy a new take on a classic, Jefferson Parish tradition.

This place is pretty good. It’s an all you can eat Mexican restaurant. I was excited to run across it because I love a buffet and I love Mexican! You go in and it’s actually a cafeteria style food line. You go down the line, tell them what you want and they put it on your tray. They offer the basics. Tamales, enchiladas(beef, chicken, and tex mex), taquitos, tacos, rice, beans, cheese, etc. I didn’t realize until after I had paid and sat down that somehow the first guy on the line gave me something other than what I ordered. The food was good. I will go back.

I have this memory; It is me as a little fat boy going the Pancho’s on Veterans Highway. The dream involves me standing in a dark lit line bordered with piñatas. I pull up the the cafeteria style line and have my pick of the best darn Mexican food to enter my gullet. I get it all covered in cheese as the manish women gives me a funny look when I look her/him back square in his/her exposed hairy chest and politely say«…more». The memory includes endless supplies of sopapillas, ordering tamales and flautes, and much more. The memory always concludes with me leaving Pancho’s feeling food drunk and super heavy as I pass a clown machine(it was there!) that laughs at me as I leave only to smell like Body odor and cheese for the rest of the day. However, that experience became a memory once Katrina came upon us; It took people’s houses, families, and gosh darn it, our Mexican food and Panchos closed. When a «new» Panchos reopened a few years back that memory was literally squashed with disaster. The«new» panchos was buffet style and just out right gross! they had everything from terrible tacos to pizza to mac and cheese on the buffet. I was crushed and so were my memories of Panchos. Panchos was broken to me. The memory would have to remain only that… Enter…TWOAMIGOS! Apparently, according to a hot tip I heard on «street»(because that’s how I roll) the ORIGINAL Panchos on vets was owned by these two guys, they were friends, you may even call them«Amigos». Well after Katrina they did not return and some new people came in to bring the awful«new» Panchos to my nightmares. Well once that folded(with good reason mind you), the two amigos came back, and boy did they! Two Amigos is JUST like the original Panchos minus the Piñatas(better work on that) and minus the nice he/she that used to serve me as a child(this sentence sounds so messed up as I re-read it, oh well). But the food is spot on and served cafeteria style. I can still get the best darn flautes and tamales covered in cheese and just have the fat memories flow in my taste buds and my brain(probably my fat ass too, but I won’t go there, or maybe I just did) Oh it is so delicious. Now this is 2014 so there are some updates, most or which are good. First the flags to signal the waiter staff have been replaced with touch lamps. That’s right, you touch this grease laced lamp and the waitress comes running to see just how fat you want to be today. The décor doesn’t have old school Spanish painting anymore(not sure if that’s good or not). The prices are a little higher, but hey fast food now cost 8 bucks so what are you gonna do? I suggest to get the tamales, the flautes, tacos and every enchilada you can fit on your first plate and your third(I may have a problem). Now for some bad changes, The sopapillas are different. The shape has changed and that doesn’t bother me at all, but the taste seemed a little off. Even when covered in honey they just didn’t taste the same as the rest of the food did. Also, no churros. Look, after I eat a plate of fried everything, I really need to finish it with something fried, so get on that. I need to find out if they sing to you on your birthday. Other than that, these 2 Amigos get 4 Staros(sorry I don’t know star in Spanish). The Good: The food is great! The memories are amazing and brought back to life great service all you can eat Mexican The Bad: all you can eat Mexican(don’t be confused just think about it) Sopapillas are different The Ugly: Food Coma The same B.O. smell that will cling to your clothes and hands all day will have your terrified all day, you better shower after this one! Where is the laughing clown?

This joint is much more similar to the old Pancho’s on Vet’s than the terrible and short lived new one we got off of Airline. The all you can eat option is a bit pricey for Mexican so unless you’re really hungry you might want to just order from their non-buffet options. They don’t have the little flags to raise and instead have lights to turn on which just don’t seem as fun as the flags. Overall its a decent spot if you need a Mexican buffet. Personally I don’t see myself craving this buffet too often and would generally prefer other spots to eat Mexican but sometimes you just need to gorge on a buffet I guess.

My last review was short & sweet, but I guess I need to extend it a bit. When I come to this place, it bring great joy to my life! It only saddens me that I don’t live closer, or have more reasons to come to this area. There is something for every Mexican food lover. If you choose the all you can eat buffet, you’re in for a treat. I always leave feeling horrible because I can’t control myself. I feel like the free ice cream really helps sooth my sore gut. 2 Amigos is definitely a place that asks about my other family members that come quite often. The atmosphere is great for families with small children or couples without children. I’ll add more later!!!

There was one buzz word as I entered this New Mexican buffet: PANCHOS. People from all angles said it, and were anxiously awaiting to give this place the stamp of approval or the cold shoulder. I have to say, most people left this place with a smile on their face and a feeling of regret, just like good OLD Panchos(not whatever that was that opened in ’09). 2 Amigos was a blast from the past. We waited in the longest buffet line I’ve ever seen, but it was so well managed that it only took us about 10 minutes to get to the food. All of the food was hot and fresh; they were constantly putting new pans out. Have 10 plates filled with things you don’t know the name of, smothered in cheese? No worries, you don’t even have to carry your tray! A server shows you to your seat and carries your tray. The flag has been replaced with a nifty light on the table, which you tap on if you want to eat more of your feelings. Chile rellinos were very small and flat, but still good. Tamales could have been a bit meatier and bigger, but overall tasty. The owners are FORSURE going to have to invest in a bigger building. With the crowds I saw tonight, there’s no way they are going to be able to handle the capacity of people that are coming to this place. 2 Amigos definitely brought me back to my childhood. New Orleans missed Panchos. Even though this is not the same name, it definitely holds the same standards and hope it stays around for a new generation to know what a love/hate relationship with a Mexican buffet is really about. Now excuse me while I run to the bathroom.
