With the upcoming holidays, I thought I’d write a few reviews for the little ones and for those that will be shopping for them. For those of you that have not had the pleasure: there are two ways to enjoy BAB, you can take a small person there to pick out and create a creature, or you can go there yourself and create a creature for someone else. All of the BABs in the Atlanta area that I have been to are very nice, but this particular location at Town Center Mall in Cobb is a favorite for my kids — the workers always seem to have smiling faces and infinite patience, no matter how many little«bear makers» are swarming the store. There always seems to be someone to help the little people, and no one seems to want to rush the process of the«making» of the bear/bunny/pig/cow/creature(which is a huge part of the whole experience, down to kissing the little fabric heart before it’s placed inside the new friend with the stuffing, and printing the birth certificate.) Build-A-Bear is geared for marking special occasions, but I have found that the price range rivals buying any decent toy at ToysRUs, and the kids seem to have a pride of ownership with these toys(frugal tip: Check for online coupons — there always seem to be one or two). My daughter is such a BAB fan that she keeps her eyes open at yardsales and thrift stores to «rehome» any abandoned BAB creatures, and the store is nice enough to reissue new«birth certificates» even for those creatures, if you take them with you when you visit the store. Something new that has been added this year is a virtual world of ‘BAB’, so your kid can recreate his creature online and interact with other kids and their animals in a cute little virtual world. So, if you want something a little different for the little people, and you want to be the«cool aunt»(or uncle) this year, work BAB into your plans, or at the very least, pick up a gift card at the grocery or drugstore and make plans to visit with your kid after the holidays. Oh, and don’t blame me if you find yourself wanting a creature or two for yourself. And, the BAB clothing fits very small dogs to a T. Don’t ask me how I know that.
