Ewing’s On the Kern

Overlooking the wondrous Kern River is not the only reason to come here. The food is tops as well as the service. Though I wasn’t a fan of my cocktail, they kindly removed it off my bill. Instead I switched to a wine which was perfecto! I went there for lunch and dinner on the same day! Both times were a hit!

Ewing s is awesome, food is great and cocktails are very good. definitely will come back.

Two stars instead of one because of the location. Don’t bother. NOTHING special about the food. We drove an hour and a half to eat here and were excited to try it. Until we waited over an hour for our food, spent $ 30 for a rack of ribs that arrived cold (as did the rest of our food) and cut individually. Bummer. I really wanted to treat hubby to something special. Greatly disappointed.

Came here for dinner after a long fun day on river the service was amazing linda was truly a jem everyone was so nice an attentive got served right away an they were buzy… I highly recommend coming here… the view to the best .our vacation has been the best thank u Kernville. …

What a view. Great service and amazing menu. Sitting on the patio over looking the Kern. Put this on your bucket list.

Ok the best thing about this place is the view… We got seated immediately. Server came to the table and took our drink order. Returned promptly with our drinks. Now after that where’s everything went down hill, really to many thing to list. Not a single thing we order was correct. After 2 hours and our dinner had not arrived. We decided to cut our losses and leave. The server was extremely sorry and offer everything thing at no charge. The was acceptable to our party. Bottom line I am sure there must have been some underline problem with the management that day. Because there is no way a this place could succeed under these conditions. I will not return. So good luck if ever in town and try this place My advice go find another place.

Me an the fam came here on a Saturday. Got seated in the bar area. We had two waitresses witch was wierd. We ordered two wines, tea an lemonade. The wines were sitting on the bar for ten mins or so. I had to get up an get the waitress. The diner rolls were cold an when we got a new bread basket. She stacked it on the old one. Lol lazy lady. Pea soup was cold. Ordered coffee with desert no sugar came. So my dad had to use whip cream from his strawberry shortcake. The food was average. The staff wasn’t on point. We don’t expect perfection in a podunk river town but our visit this time was bad

Ewings on the Kern has a magnificent view of the Kern River. If the weather permits, sit on the outside patio to fully enjoy the sights & sounds of the river. I had a steak with mashed potatoes and was not disappointed. Can’t wait to go back!

Awesome place in town for steaks. Came in here after a long day of river rafting and it did not disappoint. They seemed to have everything on the menu vs the typical burger at mostly every other restaurant also the view is spectacular!

After a day of rafting and kayaking on the Kern River, this is a perfect place to enjoy a beautiful ambience including an unobstructed view of the river, wildlife, mountains and sunset. From the gentleman who greeted us at the door, to our delightful waitress Sue, our evening was perfect. Although this is definitely a meat-​serving restaurant, the chef created a beautifully presented salad of cooked rice pilaf and veggies on a bed of greens, with a most delicious Balsamic vinaigrette on the side. We definitely look forward to returning.

I took my mom to Ewings for Mother’s Day lunch. The menu was limited, though I can deal with that. I thought it would have a fancier menu since it was Mother’s Day, but all they had were burgers, sandwiches, salads, fish and chicken steips. I was really hoping for a good juicy steak. I ordered a burger with a salad. The food was amazing and I would have given 4 stars, but the service was horrible. The waiter, Roger, was friendly enough, but as a waiter he sucked. He got our drinks all mixed up. Then, we asked got Bleu cheese crumbles and only 2 of the 3 salads had them. He forgot to bring the salad without the Bleu cheese and then I had to tell him I asked for the cheese. He said they were all out, and that’s why it took so long for the first 2 salads because he was scraping out the last bits. He did bring some feta though. Now don’t get me wrong, my burger was epic. It was hand patted with well seasoned beef. I topped it with mushrooms and fried jalepenos. Again, this could have been a 4 if not for the service.

Stopped in for dinner and had a great time. The service was fast and friendly at the only thing in town possibly close to fine dining. Had soup, salad, trout, and halibut (the red pepper soup was fantastic!). Halibut was overcooked but they didn’t hesitate to apologize and rapidly bring a second one that was perfect. Kids meals were impressive; had chicken fingers and a steak. The steak looked like an adult portion. Were too full for dessert.
They serve some local beers from KRB — tasty!
Sunset at this place was amazing. Great view of the river and the valley. Would definitely return.

The staff is Excellent attentive and professional! Very comfortable inside and on the open deck. Food is very tasty and worth the trip. I highly recommend this fine establishment!

If you’re looking for breakfast in Kernville, Ewings is a must. It may not look like it from the outside, but this place has a fantastic view of the Kern River. If you sit on the patio, you can grba a barstool and eat your food while overlooking the river, which makes for a very memorable dining experience.
The food was great, and they have a massive bloody mary on the menu that’s well worth the $ 10 price tag.
Only giving 4 stars because the guy who «greeted» us at the door and seated us was exceptionally rude, condescending, and not at all welcoming. We considered leaving, but our waitress was a sweetheart and made sure that we were well taken care of.

Ewing’s did not disappoint last night (Valentines Day). As we have come to know, the service is extremely slow but the food and ambiance make it well worth the wait. Thoroughly enjoyable.

This place is a bit pricey for me to go without provocation, but a friend sponsored my dinner there last night.
I had me a chipotle parmesan chicken situation that was deeeelicious, and I sampled the friend’s steak, which was wonderfully juicy and peppery (damn the $ 30 price tag!). Meat seems to be Ewing’s specialty, though; the side vegetables and soups were uninspiring. Most Americana restaurants seem to think the only spices in the world are salt and pepper, so it’s hardly a problem unique to this restaurant.
Lovely décor, service was a bit on the slow side, and nice view of the town lights at night.

5 stars for the friendliest service! We were a huge group with two medium sized dogs and they were able to graciously accommodate all of us in the back patio-​they even brought the doggies water.
We showed up on a Sunday morning, on the weekend of our annual tubing trip on the Kern River, in four different car filled carpools. We all arrived at different times– with some people breaking down camp a bit later than others.
We were the last car to arrive, joined our boisterous group and were immediately served with the most moist banana bread, which we were encouraged to spread delicious butter on. This was a first for me, as I usually eat my banana bread plain, but it really took an already stellar bread up a notch.
We ordered the Ewing Bloody Mary and once that beautiful, gigantic concoction arrived it enticed other people to order one as well. It was crusted in the most delicious and ingenious «corn chip salt.»
No complaints on the breakfast front. Everyone quieted down when the food arrived and chowed down.
Can we talk about the view and the ambiance of the back room? It’s killer! It was so nice to have a «fancy» breakfast after camping all weekend and still feel like we were outdoors.
Sunday Brunch at Ewings was an amazing experience. It elevated the luxury level of our outing. The beauty of the place and the kindness of the staff helped cache it in our memories. I think it looks like a visit to Ewings will be added to our annual tradition.

I was excited to see Ewings open again. I have never been there but it is such a great location. I only hope the current owners can do it justice and keep it open. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. First I have to say, the place looks great. The bar area is beautiful and the view from the dining areas is phenomenal. Looking out over the trees and the Kern river, well, it’s worth going just for that.
I ordered an omelet with cream cheese, tomato, and spinach with a side of fresh fruit. My omelet was delicious. The tomatoes were cooked somehow and tasted so good with the spinach, gooey cream cheese and egg. In fact, I’m stealing the idea and want to make it at home. Price: $ 8.95 (very reasonable)
My husband had the chicken fried steak with eggs, and potaoes & sourdough toast. He said it was pretty good. The potatoes were cooked with peppers and onions and they were pretty good too. The toast was nice and buttery too. Most places don’t put enough and he always has to ask for more. Price: $ 12.50 Total check: About $ 25
The service was excellent. We were greeted right when we walked in the door. There was one very nice lady who got our water and coffee right away. Our waitress was very good too. The food didn’t take too long and it was nice and hot when it arrived. Oh, and they also give you complimentary banana bread and butter.
We looked over the rest of the menu. They have bar food, lunch, and dinner — and a nice selection for all. I would like to try it all too.
A very nice experience and we will definitely go back.

Great view over the Kein River. Can’t beat that! It has all the seats aligned beside the big glass window.

We were there for brunch. Food is delicious and large portion. Gravy on buscuit, start up coffee cake they are all good! I got egg benidict, pretty authentic and I love it!
With such a great view, the price is pretty average for bunch. like 10 per dish. Love it!
