HydroThunder Key West

We had Jude as a guide. I was scared and nervous but he reassured me I would be okay. He was beyond comforting and supportive. He is excellent as well as the rest of the staff. This experience wouldn’t be the same without the service they provided.

What a rush! We just finished a 1 ½ ride in a jet ski around the island of Key West and had an absolute blast. Jo Jo was a our guide and was great. The tour went around the whole island and was really interesting. But going 45+ mph was the best part of the tour! We went full throttle on the jet skis and got to cover a lot of ground. Great way to see the island from the water. Enjoy!

Top notch the whole way from pick up at hotel to delivery home. We rented a 19′ boat and it was nice and clean. The whole staff was polite and helpful. We were out on a sandbar and a staff member that was w a jet ski group saw we had one of his company’s rentals so he asked if everything was going ok for us. I’m sure there are other rental places n Key West but I would highly recommend this one.

Mopeds were in great condition and the rental service was very convenient I was picked up at my hotel and taken to pick up my scooter. I would have rather the scooter was brought to me but that is my only complaint. I have used Hydro Thunder twice out of the six times renting a scooter in the Key West and they are my favorite!!!

My husband and I were staying at the Hyatt in Key West and decided to book the Key West Jet Ski Tour through the Hotel which was actually operated by HydroThunder. The location was right at the hotel — very convenient. We checked in and received instruction. All was smooth. Our guide was Jo-​Jo, a lifelong Key West resident and former firefighter. He was nice, explained things clearly and we felt safe through the entire tour. The first part the water was pretty calm so we could go fast, but towards the end it did get really choppy (unfortunately we can’t control the water!). He pointed out key landmarks, some history and also took us to a sandbar to hang out at for a while which was my favorite part. Loved Jo-​Jo and the tour. Would highly recommend as a unique and fun way to see Key West.

My husband and I signed up for the 3pm 1 ½ hour jet ski tour around key west. We expected 5 – 10 other riders, but we ended up being the only couple to go at that time. That being said, Joe gave my husband and I a private tour! We had a great time. Joe was friendly, fun, knowledgable, and an excellent guide! We had a blast, and can’t wait to do it again! Thanks Joe for adding to our fantastic vacation and memories!

DO NOT,. I REPEAT DO NOT go on this tour if you are a novice jet skier! The tour guide at 1 point was doing 70 miles and hour. We could not keep up. He didn’t even seam to care that he had lost us in the ocean. We were trying to navigate our way back in rough seas and shipping lanes with no guide to help. At 1 point he stopped to tell «the group» how were were going to park the skis when we got back and that it was going to get rougher (I don’t know how that was possible as it was already awful) but that he would take it slow. Take it slow,… with in 2 minutes we couldn’t even see him anymore. There actually were more than a couple of times we couldn’t even see him at all. This was NOT what I expected. If you are a speed lover and thrill seeker this is the tour for you. If not stay away far, far away! This was by far the worst tour I have ever taken in my life. If there was a way to put negative stars I would.

This was the best trip that my husband and I took. We had a very knowledgable guide, Aaron, and he took his time and showed us all of the sites. We took the guided jet ski trip. We went from the Gulf of Mexico into the Atlantic Ocean and stopped a few times to hear lots of history from our very informative guide. We both enjoyed ourselves and would definitely recommend this trip.

We rented two beach cruiser bicycles for about $ 34 for the entire day and had a lot of fun. We noticed that a bike had low tires and they quickly filled them up.
The bikes came with baskets and locks and we had no problems at all. We peddled all around the island for about five hours, we had a great time.

We did a 30 min freestyle ride ($ 80/​jet ski) which was a lot of fun. The ride area was about 3 miles wide so I think 30 minutes was enough time to explore & push it to the limit (~50mph).
Looking back I would’ve probably opted for the tour but it was my first time and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pick it up and move at the same pace of the group. I was still pretty slow by the end of 30 min but it wasn’t too hard to get the hang of it.
If you’re under 28, Florida law does require you to pass an exam which took about 30 minutes.

The 1 ½ hr jet ski guided tour was a blast. You go around the entire island in a single file caravan. I was a single rider so I went first and maxed out at 55mph in smooth water. In the rougher water I loved hitting the waves at 40−45mph. The slower and less experienced riders were in the back so at stops along the way I was able to play around in the deeper water until the back of the group caught up. The guide (Ben) was a smart guy and kept the newbie riders safe.

Tips: bring cash & get a wet suit ($ 10 rental)

Highly advise NOT to rent scooters from Hydro Thunder. Had a group of 8 friends rent them to travel around Key West and upon return one member of our party was falsely accused of dropping and damaging the scooter during the check in process. They thoroughly inspected the scooters which is understandable; however they did NOT go thru this process with us when we checked them out. Granted we should’ve done this ourselves but as tourists we were ecstatic and ready to go explore Key West and did not think of this. Should you decide to rent from them, DO YOUR OWN INSPECTION AND HAVE IT DOCUMENTED. Make sure already existing damage is marked with a «black dot»…but from my personal experience just go elsewhere. There are MANY OTHER places to rent scooters from!

Had a group of 8 of us who rented scooters to cruise around Key West on a Sunday. Rates were very reasonable, the scooters were in good shape, and the employees were friendly and quick so we could get to ridin! They have a stand down by the Pier House resort.

We had a great experience with hydro thunder. Instead of the jet ski tour, we wanted to be on our own timeline so we rented a 8 person jet boat for 4 of us. Way fun– probably our best day out in key west! The staff were pros and helped us all along the way. They led us to the sandbar and made sure we knew the ins and outs of the route. While approaching the sandbar, another hydro thunder employee who was leading a jet ski tour came by and helped us anchor/​position the boat. Super helpful and professional– while friendly and never made us feel dumb for not knowing what we were doing. We would definitely do another boat rental here.
Practical tips: a half day was plenty (especially on a sunny day). The sandbar is a must visit.

From beginning to end we had a great time with Hydro Thunder!
Casey at the counter was courteous and friendly, she even had a place to hold on to our belongings while on the tour. Our guide Mateo was upbeat, friendly and knowledgeable of the local area.
After a brief overview of how to control the ski we set off on out 1 ½ hour tour (actually 2 hours). The tour included several stops; one at an area to play on the skis, another to take a swim at a sand bar, and two more to bunch up the group.
The tour was very much about keeping up with the guides fast pace (30+ MPH average). This is possibly due to the fact that the tour covers about 44 miles so it’s a lot of water to cover in 1 ½ hours. If you are not used to athletic movements, exercise, or anything more than a casual bike ride you will be sore for a couple of days after.
I should also mention that this experience is not for the faint of heart. There was a portion of the tour where the route crosses the stretch of water where the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean meet there were 2 – 4 foot waves for us to contend with. This in a Jet Ski going 20 – 30 MPH means… insane amounts of airtime.
The Jet Skis were in great shape, fast and maneuverable and it’s easy to get carried away on these things.
They did offer the unique service of taking pictures while on the tour and posting it on their Facebook Page for us to use without any extra cost.
Other than the ringing in my ears from my passengers yelling we had an AMAZING time and I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking to add a boost of adrenaline to the generally laid back vibe of Key West.

Walked up to the counter with my hubby only to be greeted by turned backs. When we said hello they continued to ignore us like we didn’t matter. I told my hubs fuk this lets go. Since we stayed directly above the rentals we had the opportunity of watching the skis launch out. We saw the instructors yelling at people and speeding the tours directly through boat traffic which is highly dangerous. Saw a couple falls and wipeouts too. The tour only took you around a little island and back. I would highly recommend Hurricane Hole’s jet ski rentals the customer service was warm and you could rent canoes and paddle boards we saw nurse sharks and star fish galore! You can make a day of it and they have a fresh catch restaraunt where you can get 10% off your meal when you partake in the activities. It’s also an active fish charter rental place too so you can walk over and watch the anglers and captain cleaning fish and feeding a pool of tarpons. It was so amazing we went everyday on our trip!

My son and I took the 1−½hr tour around the Island. I really don’t understand those complaining about the length of the trip as it was clearly stated.
It was fast paced, but riding these jetskis slowly is really no fun at all.
In my opinion it’s a better value than renting them by the hour and you get to see more sights than riding them around a pen. It can be rough on the Atlantic side, but it is the ocean. We had a great time. Dean was a great Lead guy & Matt rode hard keeping everyone in line & together as we had a few stragglers. Well worth it.

Rude people, Terrible service. I have never been around people who cared less about their customers. They will ignore you, disregard you, and take your money with a bad attitude.
Oh, and their boat that we rented did not have the proper registration numbers and we were subsequently pulled over by federal marshals because of it.

Not bad — you get what you pay for 1 ½ hour race around the island. It can be a bit choppy in exposed Atlantic portions. If you are looking for something at your own pace then you might want to book something other than the Key West Tour.
My guide, Dante, a local «conch» was knowledgeable about the area and friendly.
We made about 4 stops and swam for a bit on a sandbar. It would have been nice to have a bit more «free» time to «play» on the wave-​runners but that’s not what this trip is really all about.

to go with a group of the firm depends on what you want to run.
If you want to drive fast, and almost feel the sense of a contest, you will have great fun.
If you want to go with your girlfriend and drive a little slower, you will not have fun.
They had a good info before the tour, but everything went very slowly and we were on the water nearly an hour after.
During the intros, it was a man who could not speak English, when the guides got aware of it so he began to laugh at him. (it was very funny but not so pro of the guide)
It felt like it was a company started by young inexperienced «surfers» and ran it then.
