Parrot Key Hotel & Resort

Being this my first visit to the Keys, found this resort to be very nice and quiet. Quiet compared to the crazy Duval Street, something about not being harassed by drunks when you are trying to enjoy yourself.
Stayed on first floor with private porch and sandy patio. Place has 4 Pools and they are quiet and clean. Bar folks do come by to check on guest. Very friendly and helpful.

Nice place. We had a room on the canal that had a view out to open water. Nice little shared deck and sandy lounge area. Very clean room with modern finishes. Overall my impression was its a very low key, quite place to hang out. A lot of vegetation to give it kind of a tropical, intimate atmosphere. Great location close to everything (everywhere is close to everything on Key West)

This resort has all the makings of a wonderful place — but the lack of attention to detail is what earns it a solid ranking of ‘fine’. When we checked in, there was no available parking nor anyone to assist in pointing out alternate parking or greeting arriving guests. Front desk staff seemed stressed and not very hospitable, but were nice enough. Ditto for the housekeeping staff we encountered — nice enough but not over the top the way you’d expect from a hotel that charges these rates.
When we checked into our room, I noticed multiple maintenance and housekeeping issues that, while not big enough to require immediate remedy, should have been addressed before turning the room over to the next guest. Curtains were filthy on the bottom, walls had scuffs and smears of dirt that could have easily been addressed, the makeup mirror in the bathroom was falling apart and there were hairs from a previous guest on the floor.
The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning was nice and strong and the grounds were lovely. I’d advise bringing your own toiletries — the ones provided are fine but if you’re particular you’ll be happier with your own. There is no fridge in the room, so keep that in mind if you like having cold drinks available to you or have medications that require refrigeration.

My husband and I spent four nights at the hotel. Upon arriving we were quite pleased. We chose a waterfront king room, which was lovely.
The hotel website describes Parrot Key as a «Luxury Boutique Resort.» I find that quite misleading.
On two occasions we attempted to use the pool and there were no towels, yet all four pools had piles of dirty towels strewn around that were left there for hours not being picked up.
Luxury, in my opinion, means some sort of sound proofing between floors. We were on the first floor and could hear every single peep all night long from the guests above us. We did not have one decent nights sleep.
The website photos make it seem as though the waterfront rooms have their own small beach sunbathing area with chairs. Which was one of the main reasons we chose to spend extra for that particular room. It was made quite clear that was not the case when a very loud couple spent hours drinking and smoking on the chairs directly outside our room. When I went to the front desk to inquire, I was told «I’m sorry, those are communal areas.» Having those two people behaving that way right outside our door made us quite uncomfortable, yet we had no choice but to deal with it.
Then there is the parking. One would imagine a luxury resort would provide enough parking for guests. There is nothing luxurious having to park next to Walgreens.
Conveniently, the hotel website does not have an email address. We filled out an online from on the we stir sharing our experience. No response.
We could have chosen dozens of other places for our much anticipated vacation in Key West. We chose Parrot Key and spend quite a bit of money in doing so. Sadly, we are very disappointed with that choice.

Parrot Key Hotel rooms are designed just how you would expect an older Key West resort to look; kind of old school SoFla, with an emphasis on older. If you’ve ever been to Disney and stayed at the Old Key West resort, it’s pretty much that to a T. Now, do I think the room is worth the price we paid, no. There are some scuff marks on the walls, the bed, the bathroom… It’s the little details that weren’t addressed. Can it be updated? Absolutely. Also housekeeping can be a little more consistent and timely. And it would be nice if there was more available parking. With that being said, it strangely grows on you. It’s cute, quiet, and relaxed. And what really stands out is the service. When housekeeping does come around, they are polite and courteous. The bartenders are on point (shoutout to Michele, Dimitar and Georgi at the bar next to the pool, they’re freaking fantastic!) It’s conveniently situated too, with Walgreens being right next door and some larger, well known stores across the street. Bikes can be rented here, and a jet ski tour on property as well. It was a nice place to stay without a doubt. Was this a great experience? Absolutely! Would I stay here again? No, only because I now know there are other hotels/​resorts in the area with nicer rooms closer to the same price point.
I would absolutely reconsider this resort if they updated it a bit more to reflect the price they are asking. However, I’m still giving it 4 stars because I still had a great time and enjoyed staying here.

It would have been a solid five stars had it not been the bed bugs that caused us to scratch and itch the whole trip and still suffer the effect of the bites we got from the hotel. Other than that it was one of the best beach resort hotel we ‘very stayed and we have stayed at a lot of hotels.

If you’re interested in a place that hasn’t changed since the 90’s this is your place.
Shuttle stops at 6 pm! Really? Concierge said «we start at 8:30 am» as if that’s really that early.
I don’t think the staff is that friendly.
Book else where if I were you.

Genuinely highly renovated, great looking close to ocean homes. We had two floors, it all looks close to new. If you want to stay in a fantastic good looking resort, but bring your own food after 8pm, this is a great place. We were looking for a little more: —

Advise clients in advance the restaurant (basic) closes at 8pm — rail guards for kids at the stairs in the house (you can rent them from an outside company? that doesn’t work this is a vacation) — somewhere to plug in the toaster provided? all the signs saying don’t do that, don’t do this? — Once Mavis and Betty leave after breakfast service who obviously don’t need the money, the staff are more vibrant through lunch and up to 8pm–
— Update as it happens. All room keys are deactivated at midnite, assumedly as the folios are left under the doors. No access to pool on final morning, or the room, etc. On attending the front desk, the receptionist takes not one but two calls from colleagues and works on the computer while putting re activating my key on hold. She became very defensive, and I have to admit I was not very kind to her. I informed her since I was paying, I would need a working room key and also service, on my annual vacation. First time this deactivation has happened in 30 years of staying in hotels.

Great place, the only problem is the parking lot. They don’t have enough parking space, we needed to park at Walgreens.

Absolutely loved staying here. We had the three bed apartment for the five of us which was the full three storey house. We had three balconies and a great set up. The coffee in the rooms were delicious. The beach in front of the downstairs fantastic and the perfect spot to watch the sunset. (The beach does not lead to water in case you are expecting this)
The hidden pier at the side of our villa was lovely to watch the boats and jet skis and paddleboarders on the water from
Super comfy beds, helpful staff and a very impressive setting with four pools so always plenty of space. Would recommend spending the extra for a water view room. Worth every penny
Really easy to get into Key West proper from there and taxis were quickly available. There was a 24 hour Walgreens next door (with a fantastic night staff working there who had us in hysterics) and a liquor store which also came in handy
We could not find the iPod docks in any of the rooms we had and lost some hair straighteners whilst we were there. No negative comments other than that.

GREAT SPOT! Love it here! Very nice staff. Extremely convenient to everything. Peaceful. Clean nice room. Extra cute and we will be back. We walked and rode bikes everywhere. Great trip!

My first time in key west and my first time in this hotel, best thing about this hotel is the atmosphere, it truly makes u feel u r on island with very clean swimming pools (4 of them) service is very nice, now it’s a small hotel and knowing what I know now I wouldn’t had paid the extra for water view cause it’s literally a small canal, the rooms are huge, I got the suit with 2 rooms which are 2 floors with each room has its own bathroom and dressing room beside the living area.

What a beautiful resort in terms of location and services. We had only one night stay here yesterday which made us fell in love with it.
Quick check in at the counter And we got the best room we wanted which was waterfront corner suite. Excellent views and room.
The pools were 4 in total with excellent pool café. We had a great time at pool café. Mock tails were so good, I really enjoyed them a lot.
Nothing beats the sunset view across our room. It was awesome, something I would never forget in my life.
I would surely recommend this resort to everybody.

If there were an option to give this place 0 star i would definitely do that. I Will not make this mistake ever again and reserve this hotel, and I recommend same to everyone else who are thinking to stay here.
Extremely bad experience. Front desk stuff was really rude. We had a problem with reservation. Our room wasn’t ready on time. They even try to charge us two rooms and give us keys just for one. Blonde girl from front desk (dont know her name) was really rude and ignore us. She didn’t want to help us. Finally, i don’t recommend this hotel to anyone who wants nice time on key west. For 200+ $ per person you can find much better place to stay.

I stayed at this resort on Jan 20 – 24. This is a very nice resort but has a few negatives, hence the 4 stars. This resort is not in old town so you will not be able to walk to Duval St. There are shuttles and cabs. I did half my week in old town and half my week here, so I had no need to go back downtown. Proximity to downtown was not a factor for me.
Positives:
I actually liked the location, given that I had already stayed in old town the first half of the week. This location is better if you would like access to grocery stores (Public, Winn Dixie), drugstores (CVS, Walgreens), chain restaurants (Five Guys, Outback Steakhouse), and a movie theater.
This resort is beautiful. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed. I stayed in a walkout waterfront king. The room was huge. The bathroom was huge. The room has a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The room is very comfortable. This room has it’s own back porch that opens right onto a little sandy beach. Keep in mind, the beach is manmade and you are actually facing mangroves. This is not oceanfront. There is no privacy when you are on your back porch or on the «beach». It seems second floor rooms have more privacy. There are no screen doors on these porches so you cannot leave your door open without the risk of bugs, birds or kitties getting in. Speaking of kitties, there are resident feral cats roaming all around. Be prepared. I like cats, so this was plus for me.
The staff is very friendly and engaging.
I had a nice package with a $ 50/​day food and beverage credit making it very easy to eat breakfast and lunch at the resort and have drinks by the pool or at the bar. The food is fine, but not fabulous.
The bathroom is laid out nicely with toilet paper holder in the right place (I’ve been traveling for 2 weeks and believe it or not, this is a problem in a lot of hotels.)
Negatives:
If you don’t have the food and beverage credit I feel the food is overpriced for what it is, but it is a resort after all and you are paying resort prices. If you are in the mood for a good burger, just walk across the street and get Five Guys.
The restaurant is not open for dinner. The bar closes around 6 or 7pm.
There are 5 steps to your front door which makes it inconvenient if you are using a luggage cart to get all your luggage into your room. You must park the luggage cart at the bottom of the steps and then one by one carry your luggage into your room.
Your front door is actually a shared entrance with the room above you. If you are staying on a second floor room, be prepared to walk up a whole flight of stairs with your luggage. The shared front door opens into a foyer to reveal two more doors, one to the first floor room and one to the second floor room. If you are staying in the first floor room, and your second floor neighbors come home late at night after you are already asleep, be prepared to be awoken by the shared front door and the footsteps up the stairs. Very noisy.
Although the bathroom is huge and generally laid out well, there are no towel hooks or rack anywhere near the shower, making it necessary to improvise where to hang your towel for easy access.
There was not enough staff at checkin. Although it was checkin time, there were only two people working the front desk and there was a line of guests waiting patiently. When I checked in, my room was not ready. I was told I could wait at the pool or bar, using all the facilities, and that I would get a text when my room was ready. When I received my text I had to go back to the front desk and wait in a long line, while the concierge sat nearby doing nothing. If they are going to utilize this system, they should give the room keys to the concierge and let you know when you receive the text that you do not need to wait in line just to pick up your room key. After all, I was already checked in. The only thing they did when I got the text and waited in line was literally just hand me the room keys. They should give all room keys to the concierge and have people who receive the text stop at the concierge’s desk to pick up their keys.
The checkout procedure for the $ 50 food and beverage credit is very strange. They had to manually go through my statement and add up all of the food and beverage charges on a calculator and then manually deduct that from my bill. This was only done once I pointed out that all of the food and beverage charges should be credited due to my package, which was clearly listed on my statement!
It seems like I have listed a lot of negatives, but really they are only worthy of a one star drop in rating due to all the positives. I would stay here again. As I mentioned, this resort is beautiful and the room was a dream other than the noisy stairs to the neighbors upstairs. Eating breakfast and lunch at the bar each day was very pleasant as the restaurant staff go above and beyond to make sure you are happy.
I would recommend this resort and would stay here again!

Parrot key, you were one of the cutest spots I’ve ever stayed at. Everything from the service to hotel were nothing less than superb! The room we stayed in had two queen beds, and more than enough room to feel comfortable in. Also, we had French doors that led us out to a private porch, two lounge chairs, sand in our backyard, and the ocean to our right. The resort has three pools that reminded me of the secret garden. I will 100% be coming back to this hotel!
Yes, the hotel is not right off of Duval, but it’s not fair either! The hotel is a 5 min taxi ride, and maybe if some people would’ve researched that before booking, they would’ve been happier.

If you’re going to a place like Key West, why not stay somewhere a little different? We liked the personality of Parrot Key, with the little porched rowhouses, lush landscaping and multiple (if small) pools. Staff in the office were helpful and would set up itineraries if you needed them.
The room was very nice, with tropical colors and very comfy bedding.
We went in October so there weren’t many kids (that probably changes in summer), but the people in the room next to ours came crashing in every night at 3 or 4 a.m. (the rooms had an attached foyer so we heard the slamming… classy.)
The staff weren’t consistent about replacing supplies. They would replace one toiletry item but not another… which would be the one we needed. Would take away the old liner for the ice bucket but not leave a new one. And only leave decaf coffee. It was a bunch of little things that added up to extra work for us that you don’t want to do when you are trying to relax.
Also, among the three of us in the room, we COULD NOT figure out how to work the TV remote! I have a masters degree and I could not make the thing work, people. After screwing around with it fruitlessly for a while we called the front desk. Seriously. They said that this apparently happens often… then how about leaving directions?
The pools were very nice (the biggest is by the restaurant, Café Blue, which is also where you get towels), and if you’re lucky the feral kitties who live nearby will roam around and say hi. (One hopped up on my chaise while I was relaxing post-​swim. Hello!) One annoying thing: the hotel is no-​smoking, but some Eurotrash visitors apparently thought that didn’t apply to them with their e-​cigarettes by the pool.
Overall, though, this was a nice setting, convenient to town without being in the thick of it. Enjoy your trip!

Parrot bay is a nice family hotel. It does look much better online, but most places do. Water front doesn’t necessarily mean that you are on the ocean… That’s what it looks like, but the view is still very relaxing.
We booked a double queen room and were upgraded to a king queen suite upon check in without asking to and at no cost, which was wonderful. All of the water sports close at 5 and boom quickly. We went to a nearby beach and it wasn’t very nice. It smelled like rotten seaweed and the water was filthy.
Resort pools are small but there are a bunch of them so it was easy to find one that was almost a private pool for us.
Parking here is the worst… First come first serve or park at Walgreens and walk.
I do think that this hotel is a little over priced for what it gives… But like I said it is nice for a family. The suite has two floors, the second bedroom is upstairs so there is plenty of room. I may stay here in the future, I’m not sure. I may try something new.

Omg, my dad and sister and I had such an amazing time here! Our first experience in Key West, and it definitely made us want to come back the following year.
Garden view two bedroom suite! And the best part was that we didn’t originally book it, we were upgraded randomly. Now seriously, you can’t beat that!
I never stayed in such a spacious room before, for just three people. I almost wished we were staying there longer so we could enjoy more of the suite. It was two levels, and from the outside, looked like the entrance of a townhouse.
The room I shared with my sister had a huge king sized bed, and there were times she would reach her arm out and go «where are you?» haha. When we were younger and had to share beds, it always sucked because we would occasionally knock into one another.
Each room had its own bathroom — our bathroom was larger, had both a tub and a standing shower beside each other and on the other side double sinks. It was the master bedroom probably meant for couples. If only there was enough time to soak in a nice bath! What a luxury considering you can’t sit in a tub for an hour or so when other people might need to use the can. I liked the whole happy, beach vibe of our room, bright colors and everything. With turquoise walls, it just felt so happy. Huge dresser but never have enough things to actually unpack.
My dad had his own bedroom and bathroom and while the bathroom wasn’t as spacious, it was nice, and the bed a Queen or full-​sized.
Had a balcony with chairs, but we didn’t stay there long, because the rooms were so damn nice. The view wasn’t all that, some greenish water, but hey, we had a view.
Multiple pools — each different sizes, and almost like a garden maze as you walked through. I loved it. When we went, there was barely anyone in the pools, and at times, we were the only ones there. Felt super private and secluded. I would have thought there would be more kids around because seems like a great place for families, but perhaps they were all at the beach.
Super friendly staff. In the check-​in office/​waiting area, there was a computer station in case you need to check email or do anything else. Everyone uses their phones for that now, but for old school folks, here it is. The check-​in area was nice too. Had a modern, yet simple beach vibe with light (white?) walls, wooden floors (?). Was clean and spacious, and quiet. Not a ton of people milling around. Each time we came it felt like we were the only guests there.
For dinner one night order Domino’s pizza and we picked it up across the street, and we watched a movie on TV while having dinner in the living room. Comfy enough couches, and a small kitchenette to make coffee and a mini fridge.
Had enough parking, we never had trouble finding a spot.
Across the street there are enough stores to grab snacks and water, which made it convenient to grab something quickly.

Die Anlage hat 4 Pools, welche durch eine Art Labyrinth voneinander getrennt sind, was wir sehr schön fanden.
Da wir immer ausserhalb gegessen haben, kann ich hierzu nicht viel schreiben.

Overpriced. The place feels a bit like a prison. A beach? Seriously you call that a beach ?
Too far from the interesting things in Key West.
