Boss Frog’s offers a full range of activities and beach rental equipment including high-​quality snorkel gear, performance surfboards, skim boards, stand up paddleboards, paddleboards, boogie boards, golf clubs, hybrid bike rentals, beach cruisers, road bike rentals, coolers, chairs, float belts, digital cameras and an assortment of island related apparel and accessories.

We book luaus, bike the volcano tours, and Molokini snorkeling tours, helicopter tours, dinner cruises, zipline tours, ocean rafting, Kayak Tours, fishing trips, sailing, parasailing, surfing lessons, whale watching and other island activities. History

Established in 1989.

Boss Frog’s started with snorkel gear rentals and Molokini snorkel cruises in 1989. Since then, Boss Frog’s has grown into one of the leading providers of snorkel gear and beach rentals on Hawaii. Boss Frog’s has locations on Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii (the Big Island). After years of offering snorkel gear and Molokini snorkel cruises, Boss Frog’s expanded into providing island activities, including luaus, helicopter tours, surfing lessons and snorkel cruises. In 2011, Boss Frog’s opened a full-​service bicycle shop in Lahaina offering repairs, sales and rentals of Cannondale road bikes, Fuji beach cruisers and hybrids and Santa Cruz mountain bikes. Today, Boss Frog’s is Maui’s #1 family friendly snorkel rental shop.

The guys that work here are legit. I don’t expect much in the way of customer service in Maui, but Joe and Castro (?) were great. They understood what I wanted and told me where to go etc. just for the customer service, I would go back. Also the prices were very reasonable!

«Best Maui Bike Shop — Hidden in a Boss Frog’s location»
This particular Boss Frog’s location at 1770 South Kihei Road not only rents the standard snorkel and bike equipment but also houses a FULL SERVICE BIKE SHOP If you have your own bike and need repairs. I bought a bike and though I assembled it myself, I needed help adjusting the brakes and derailleurs and attaching an accessory rack. Kyle is the bike tech who did a fantastic job of tuning in my bike and for a very reasonable price! Justin also works there and was very helpful and friendly to all the customers while I was in the store.
One of the things I appreciated most was that they were very welcoming of me bringing in a bike I purchased elsewhere. When I first went to their competitor down the street to look at buying a bike, the competitor’s employee was clearly not interested in my business since I wasn’t looking at bikes over $ 1000 — so off putting that I came home and ordered a bike from Amazon.
Luckily, I found out about this Boss Frog’s bike shop. Thank you Kyle for making sure my bike was tuned correctly so I can ride safely with confidence! Great job!

Parking behind the store off the busy Kihei Rd was helpful. I was pleased with the performance and cleanliness of the equipment I rented (mask, fins, snorkel, and anti fog liquid). The handy carry bag made it easy to keep track of my equipment. We had a wonderful morning at the very accessible Ulua Beach. My friend experienced a challenge with one of her snorkel fins, but the store manager, Chris, handled the challenge in such a professional manner, our morning was a pleasant one. Because of the good service we received, we will return to rent again next time we visit Maui.

Very nice guys — Kyle, Joe, Justin & Chris helped me with snorkel gear & were not pushy about their excursions etc as some have suggested here. Kyle & Joe even helped my husband stuff a frustrating beach shelter back in it’s tiny bag that had nothing to do with them ! Good location, plenty of parking & not too crazy busy.

Came in to rent $ 1.50/day snorkel gear, per their advertisement. Found out that gear advertised was an antiquated Jacque Cousteau mask and open snorkel. For a current mask and an anti-​siphon snorkel it was $ 9.00/day. Advertising at its best… Right? However, when we arrived… Our salesperson, Dominic was AMAZING! We were a party of 6, totally taking over the store. 2 were locals (kamihina). He fitted us perfectly with our gear, gave us excellent advice on where and when to snorkel and even marked on a map the best times and locations to snorkel safely. Suggested perfect restaurants to visit, which we did and were extremely satisfied with his recommendations. Unfortunately, we did not heed his advice fully and within 30 mins lost 2 masks, a snorkel and a fin. The next day, with our tail between our legs, willing to give our left foot and right arm for the lost equipment; we asked for Dom. Sadly, he was was not there. Instead… We were greeted with high pressured sales tactics for a time share «opportunity». I don’t know about how the rest of the world likes to spend their vacation. but, for me. 45 mins of high pressure sales for a timeshare when all I want to do is enjoy time with my family and pay for lost equipment, is not the way I want to spend my time. Furthermore… We received a call from the manager 3 days later to «inquire» about our satisfaction about equipment, ended up being a shakedown regarding an «investigation» about an employee giving one of us a free rental camera to use during our stay. Up until this point, I had mixed emotions between boss frogs being a local company tailored to a Maui experience vs. a puppet for corporate advertising, focused on money kickbacks and commissions. We wonder if boss frogs is really concerned about «customer satisfaction» or commissioned sales quotas for time share company referrals. Just saying… This was my experience. Sorry to say, we ended up going to Costco, buying snorkel gear for $ 45. I’m all for supporting local businesses. I come from a small town, Chico California. When local businesses buy out to corporate… I stop supporting.

Horrible experience with Joe, Manager. Bike had bald tire, like racing slick, he just smirked and to me to look on Craigslist. What an *******hole. Zero Aloha. Went to Dolphin Plaza BF and got fantasic service from Benjamin… Go there.

I discovered Boss Frog’s bike shop on my last visit to Maui and was glad I did. The Kihei location is a great bike shop with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I rented a carbon Cannondale road bike from them for a ride up Haleakala and got a great deal on a week-​long rental. They allowed me to test ride a few models and ensured that the one I chose was tuned up and in good working order. Due to the cost, I had initially planned to rent a bike for just one day from a Paia bike shop the day of my ride, but Boss Frog’s low weekly rental rate allowed me to have the bike for several days to get in another couple of rides in during the week.
Although the store is more focused on water sports, they have an impressive variety of cycling gear and bike rentals. Their selection of bike clothing was also exceptional and allowed me to find a nice souvenir jersey to remind me of my trip.
The team at Boss Frogs was also very knowledgeable about other island activities and shared information on various other discounted deals. I highly recommend that you check out Boss Frog’s in Kihei.

Danny Williams at boss frogs in south Kihei is great! I never write reviews, but I made a Unilocal profile just for this guy! My wife and I were on our honeymoon, and saw a few of there adds. The prices for rentals and outtings were better than most that we found elsewhere so we stopped in. I’m so glad we did!!! Danny was awesome! He treated us great and helped us out, without being pushy about anything. He told us about a VIP package, which I recommend if it’s still available, and it saved us a bunch of money. Yes I thought the same thing you are thinking and almost stopped listening the second I heard VIP package, but the great thing was that Danny and the guys at boss frogs seem more interested in making sure you are a happy customer and having a great vacation, than it does to what you purchase or don’t, they are all happy to help.
Oh and when we were booking our trip to Molokini Crater, (a must do by the way), a gentleman came in and gave the guys his left over goodies, including some beers and a nice bottle of wine, before going to the airport. That gesture says it all about how these guys operate.
Like I said, this is my first review ever, because taking the time to write about poor or mediocre service is a waste of my time. But my wife and me were so pleased and impressed with Danny’s customer service that I felt compelled to write this review. There maybe better equipment you can rent, or more convenient deals at your hotel, but I would at least stop in a talk to these guys before make any plans.

These guys were great. We went in to rent boogie boards mainly. that was cheap and easy for the week. We asked about tours and they were super helpful. I have been to Maui a lot so I know all the traps but these guys didn’t go for the hard sell. In fact they told us how we could save money by doing some stuff on our own. That never happens in Maui. Most companies will try desperately to take advantage of you. We liked them so much we went back a couple of days later to book a whale watch dinner through them and it was perfect. Lots of whales, plenty of great food and entertainment. The crew and captain were also great.

Great place to work with. We have rented road bikes from them the past two years and they have been very accommodating and priced very competitively. The staff member, even though alone and swamped, had a fantastic attitude and was willing to help in any capacity. I would highly recommend this location.

Cheaper prices but service in shop was slow and we got a paddle board that was too small. None of us could stand on it and we tried one from a hotel and was no problem. I probably would spend the extra money on a rental from the hotel next time.

We went through Boss Frogs for bike rentals. They had the best deal around and the bikes were in great condition. Justin, the sales associate who helped us out, gave us some good insight into the routes we wanted to do. The best one was the West Maui Loop, thanks Justin for letting us know the road around is closed during the week, we went on the weekend and it was awesome. We ended up booking all our activities through Boss’s and nothing disappointed. If you are looking for good friendly staff to help you with your great Maui vacation go see Justin at Boss Frogs, you won’t regret it.

We booked a Luau as well as a Molokini/​Turtle Town snorkeling excursion here, and I can’t say enough good things about this place! I always have to find the cheapest deal, and after doing a price check at the concierge as well as online, I confirmed that they definitely offer the best deals on the island.
Yes, the $ 9/​week snorkel gear rental got us in the door, but I didn’t feel like I’d been had when we walked out with the more expensive gear which later proved to be totally worth the extra few bucks.
We also rented an underwater digital camera which happens to be like the best one on the market under $ 800. Totally worth it, especially if you’re going snorkeling at Molokini. They’ll replace the battery with a fresh one even if it’s still showing 2⁄3 charged, and they burn all your vids/​pics (I think you can take up to 1800 pics) to a CD.
They added so many things at no extra cost, I’m not sure I should list them on here. I’d suggest going into the shop and talking with them.

We stayed in Maui for 10 days and used Boss Frog’s for all of our excursions. Brent almost exclusively helped us and he was awesome. Had interaction with some of the other guys and they weren’t bad but definitely not as helpful/​thorough as Brent. Prices seemed fair on most things and you get a pretty significant discount if you go to the timeshare presentation deal, you have to make $ 75k/​yr to qualify. It’s very high pressure, so be warned.
Brent seemed pleased to have our business and cut us slack on an untimely cancellation that was within the no-​cancellation period as well as waived a couple fees for late rental returns (oops!). Overall we were pleased with the quality of the tours/​excursions that Boss Frog’s offered as well as their customer service!

Great rental experience here! Transaction was easy. The seat on the bike was adjusted for me. The fins I rented worked out. Friendly staff.
I may make a fool of myself but if I rent again from this location, I will ask for a butt pillow or comfier seat. I got bum sores and tenderness goin on. But I did ride 25 miles in total and some areas were bumpy.
The hybrid + basket works great for hauling groceries and going on snorkel adventures.

I’m sorry to leave a bad review because my experience started well with a blonde guy who did excellent customer service. We rented camera and a board. However, the day after we rented the camera it started to show problems during my first dip in the water. I had to reschedule my dives as a result and rushed to change the camera taking away time from the beach because they close at 5pm. Not only my rental wasn’t restarted but also when I brought back the snorkeling set I rented in a different boss frog’s I was charged a weekly rate for both the camera and the snorkel set, although I wasted a day due to faulty equipment. Moreover the shop in kihei does not open early enough to return equipment rented in a shop that opens much earlier in a different island town. Considering the facts one would think that a company who cares for their customers would compensate for the annoyances it caused but no, at least not Ms. Malani in the kihei shop, even though I thoroughly explained the situation.
Finally, I also want to confirm what another reviewer said. Don’t buy into the 1.5 $/​day snorkel set. Staff pushes you to get the 8 bucks a day one, and they’re right. The 1.5 $ sets are basically those that Jaques Custeau used in the 70s to film the first underwater documentaries. If you wanna get treated well or at least be heard, go somewhere else. Or try to go when a funny blond guy with a parrot on his shoulder is in the shop. But in doubt, just stay away, Maui Dive Shop for example (that’s the one I tried) is a much better option. Certainly there are plenty more places where you can find better value for your holiday, not necessarily in terms of money but certainly in terms of service.
