Urban Float

It was very relaxing. I really enjoyed but for me I wish I had the music on the full time. I was thankful when the music came on so I knew it was time to get out. She was super friendly and very helpful.

Absolutely no complaints with my first time float experience. You have a pre and post room to relax before and after the float. It was an amazing experience, you truly feel weightless and can relax in a new way.

If I’m giving my subjective opinion/​experience, I would give this concept three stars. My favorite part was once I got situated and my breathing began to slow, at which time I entered a light meditative state. But for me, 30 minutes was enough. I got bored and left early.
I’m giving four stars because of the level of hospitality the girls who work there gave. They were very soft spoken and glided me through the introduction process, all while maintaining a very relaxing atmosphere.
I bought a living social deal for $ 45…not really a deal seeing as their monthly, one float subscription is $ 50 or $ 60…can’t remember the exact price.
Also, the shampoo, conditioner and body wash that are offered for the pre and post showers are incredibly cheap. I wish they told me I could bring my own when they confirmed my appointment over the phone the previous day, because I needed to go home and re-​wash afterwards.
I can see how some people may enjoy this. If you’re someone that needs a reprieve and don’t enjoy regular meditation, this would do it. Otherwise, save your money.

I am extremely disappointed in Urban Float. I liked the idea/​concept and therefore joined last January. I have used it only 2 – 3 times and liked it each time. However, they started charging my credit card monthly and even after I had a conversation with them to suspend my account I still had resurgence of charges for several months which I am now trying to clean up. This is the Kirkland Urban float. In summary, I think I have paid SEVERAL hundred dollars in credit card fees to use Urban Float couple of times or so over the last year! This is just crazy especially given they charged my credit card without my authorization (just because they happen to have it). My strong recommendation is to pay as you go and you pay far less than to subscribe to their monthly plans. I am hoping that someone in their management resolves/​refunds my charges soon.

Had my 1^st float with them today aaaaaand signed up for their limited membership. Yep, that’s how much I enjoyed it :)
I loved how relaxing their pre and post rooms were to prep and also come back into «reality» so to speak after the session. The staff was very friendly and super helpful! Looking forward to spending a lot more floats here!

Found this place through Groupon. I was always curious and my masseuse recommended this to supplement my massage.
Parking was a breeze. Check in was efficient at the reception. You complete your check in on an iPad. Part of the check in was to watch a video which I had already done at home. This is essential to know what to expect.
You choose music: either throughout or just beginning and end. After that, you are shown to your room. You get a quick introduction to the dials on the pod unit. The dial on the left sets variable colored lights, one color or no lights. The dial on the right is to call the attendant. Since it’s easy enough to knock this by mistake, they ask you to press it a few times continuously. There’s a foam tube to use under your neck.
Undress/​change into whatever is comfortable, insert ear plugs and step in. Float away. I chose music throughout so that when the music ends, you know it’s time to get it. Then the water swirls.
I liked that you get your own private room with shower. They provide body wash, shampoo and conditioner but I think I will take my own next time. They have a hair dryer in the rest room but I think I’ll take my own and try to use it in the privacy of my room. Also take a pair of flip flops if you’re a Germophobe.
The water could be a little warmer if I had a choice. The water felt incredibly soft and it was easy to relax. I felt a little cold throughout so I closed the pod door to keep the heat in.
They have different levels membership which I am considering. I highly recommend this as a relaxation experience.

It was recommended as a different experience toward relaxation. I enjoyed the float and even dozed off for a bit. The facilities were clean-​ish (hard to say with the carpeting). I came out refreshed.
However, as the evening progressed, my joints stiffened and ached and I started feeling flu-​like symptoms. I woke up the next day with even more flu like symptoms. I understand the super salinated water (epsom salts) are supposed to kill most bacteria but I think viruses can survive it.
Fortunately the flu lasted only another day. I am not sure I trust that the recycled, super salinated water is all that sanitary and not sure how often the lid of the pod is sterilized. Then too it could have been the shower afterwards. All I know I was fine going in, and initially when I got out.
Maybe it worked and triggered some toxins out of my body in the form of a flu. Or maybe I caught something while I was in there. I will say it was relaxing and enjoyable while there but, for me, the aftermath was not so pleasant.

I have a very mixed review for Urban Float.
I will begin with the good.
I enjoyed my float. It takes a while to relax and embrace the experience, but overall the experience was good. I do believe that with repeated floats, my enjoyment would increase and so would the benefits. I was gifted this experience and was glad for the gift, because I would not have tried this on my own, left to my own devices. I left feeling very relaxed and that the time was well spent. The music and lights worked perfectly, the pod and room were spectacularly clean.
That said, here are my issues.
I believe, for what you are getting, that Urban Float is spectacularly overpriced.
There is no skilled labor — which I gladly pay for — like massage therapy, physical therapy, hair, etc. This is more like time in a tanning bed — and should be priced accordingly. It’s an expensive build-​out, but at the end of the day, it’s labor, rent, water and salt. If the purpose is to provide a therapeutic result, then many will be priced right out of returning, as a membership that will provide those results is akin to a small car payment.
The amenities are quite awful. Though body wash, shampoo, conditioner, vinegar, lotion are vegan, free trade, etc and provided for you — they are No Bueno. My hair and skin felt gross for the rest of the day. If you go, bring your own product. I’m not even going to talk about the $ 11 shower cap.
The staff was nice, but we were barraged with information by a young man who was clearly a brand new «true believer» who told us he had already floated 4 or 5 times in the *two days* since he was hired and how incredible the results are. I will let this sink in (pun intended).
If they change the pricing structure to something sane, I would go back, but until then, this is a vanity service for the extremely privileged. I would rather give my money to a human healer.

I floated for the first time last night and I am hooked. It was so relaxing the whole time that I fell asleep. I love how they have late appointment times so I can go after work. When I woke up this morning it was the first time in six months that my feet did not hurt when I got out of bed. My husband and I will definitely will becoming members.

The float experience was great for my back but a big word of caution on the ethics of the business. Be very careful that you read all of the fine print. We were asked if we wanted an additional float for $ 4, and ended up costing us $ 200 in fees for floats we were unable to use. Urban float would not refund the fees, even after the 1^st person whom I contacted, stated it would be refunded due to the misunderstanding. I would not recommend this business.

Every time I think about floating and sensory deprivation tanks, my mind goes somewhere between early episodes of Fringe and that episode of the Simpsons when Homer is trapped in a tank and just sings to himself the whole time.
Urban Float is, thankfully, not like either of those places. The Kirkland location is still reasonably new, and I think that they’re still finding their feet, several months on.
If you’re a newcomer to floating, there’s a video on a tablet that they make you watch before you start. The «Pre» room is nice, but a bit poky if it’s full as it seats six when it’s at capacity, and you’re elbow to elbow with someone else while you wait for your float. When you get called to your float room, there’s also someone there to give you a quick lowdown, so don’t worry if you didn’t pay attention to everything in the video!
The pods are slick and ultra-​modern looking, and you’re in a pretty spacious room. It’s all very fancy. The pods themselves are big enough so you can float in them without banging into the sides. I usually have the lights and music off the whole time, because I find the music and lights distracting. But it’s nice when you start to have the lights on until you get used to it, and also it’s less disorienting (if you turn all the lights and the outside light off, it can get pretty dark!).
A few things that leaves it short of five stars: I feel like sometimes the experience gets a bit rushed, like they just want to get people in and out as fast as possible, and some small things fall through the cracks.
Once I got put in a room where, upon entering, it was clear that it hadn’t been made up and there were used towels and a wet floor. (I was quickly moved into another available room though.) Another time I was getting ready to float and then noticed that I hadn’t been provided with earplugs, so I had to get dressed again and go outside to get them, and then get changed and shower again before getting in the pod, which cut into my float time. And another time still, I booked for four people, where if you bring new people to float you get points that add towards a free float, and they somehow lost track of that information.
The online booking system is usually reliable, although I’ve had to call to confirm on a few occasions because I never received a confirmation email. (You also don’t’ get a confirmation email if you call to book.)
I’m not a fan of the soap/​shampoo they provide, so I bring my own. The other thing is that when you’re all calm after getting out of the pod and you’re getting ready to face the real world, the pod’s filters start going off, and they’re pretty noisy. It’s a little bit of a zen-​ruiner there.
That said, these things are quite minor, and I’m not going to stop floating because of them. I’ve been coming here for several months now; I do enjoy floating and I find it relaxing, and a way to clear my mind. I haven’t seen any trippy hallucinations on my floats, but that’s okay with me.
Customer service has always been extremely good there, with all the staff I’ve met being super friendly and helpful. There’s only minimal upselling, which is good because I can’t imagine anything more obnoxious than being totally relaxed and then having someone pushing to sell you stuff.
Overall, I’m going to keep coming back (I’m a member now!) but there are definitely little spots of the overall experience that could be improved.
There’s plenty of parking in the lot, or up the street by the library.

I love floating at Urban Float. This new location is way closer to me than Fremont, which is awesome. I have chronic pain and while I float, I’m about 70% pain free. I feel super relaxed when I leave and usually sleep better that night. I prefer evening appointments because I do feel so relaxed, I don’t feel like doing much after. I definitely recommend floating to anyone who deals with pain, being weightless and having no pressure on joints for 50 minutes is amazing.
I only have a few little things about the Kirkland location that I don’t like but don’t take away from the experience enough to rate it less.
1) the lounge area isn’t all that comfortable. The fremont location has couches but the Kirkland has those big outdoor like chairs. They are not very comfortable.
2) there’s no float room. Though I heard Fremont got rid of theirs too. I preferred the float room to the pod. I liked it being more open and with the pod, if I don’t leave the pod cracked, it gets too warm for me personally.
I strongly recommend floating. I just feel so much better after I go.

This is a great place to begin exploring the benefits of float therapy. I had wanted to try it for years and the only thing keeping me from doing so was the lack of accessibility and high costs associated with the service in general.
After doing some research, I found that typically these services in the Seattle area are priced around $ 80 to $ 100 per session. Urban Float makes it possible for you to try floating without paying a ton of money with your first float under $ 50. That in addition to a particularly convenient location for me made it pretty clear that it was time to give it a shot.
I went to their website and created an account. I didn’t book an appointment at the time, opting to walk in and get some more information from a real person. I stopped by one afternoon and the lovely young woman working behind the front desk knew her stuff. She gave me all the information I needed to get started. I booked my first appointment that evening and have been a member and regular floater ever since.
You can tell that an enormous amount of thought went into creating the environment and floating experience from start to finish. The dim lighting in the lounge after complete darkness for an hour is very appreciated. Water and tea are available while you wait. If you are terrified of the idea of darkness, you have control over the lights in your pod. (I got over that fear at about 20 minutes into my first float). If you are wondering what the actual floating experience is like, it’s the most relaxing thing I have experienced as an adult without a prescription.
If you are thinking of trying this, do it. If you live on the east side, do it here. If you live on the west side, do it at the Fremont location.

Still working out their kinks. I only went to the Kirkland location again because the Fremont location was closed for a little while for renovations.
I experienced the same super frustrating experience with the music not turning on at the correct time and totally freaking me out when it did come on.
Also, this time when I went in the pod was closed instead of open and it was stifling hot in there! I opened it while I was in my first shower, but I was still uncomfortably warm for the first 20 or so minutes, really detracting from the entire point of the float — sensory deprivation (not possible if the water and air temperature are incorrect). Very frustrating.

I’ve never floated before and this was my first location. When my boyfriend and I got there, they put us in a separate room where we watched a video on a ipad about how floats worked. After the video, a young man showed us a room and explained to us how it worked. Though, I felt that the guy did have a slight attitude when I asked him a question. The float itself was okay, my neck started to cramp up during the float and I got salt water in my eye which was pretty painful but that was purely my fault. The float isn’t as relaxing as I had expected, I had really bad cramps on my neck the next day.

This was a relaxing experience. The staff was thoughtful and attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed Urban Float

I saw that Groupon was offering a deal on a float session at this Kirkland Urban Float and the whole concept intrigued me. It’s kind of a «way out there» concept for me, as I’m a child of the 60’s and I remember hearing about sensory deprivation tanks and hippies and tripping and all that. But nowadays these floatation tanks (aka isolation tanks) are flouted as being therapy tools for relaxation, stress management, and even pain alleviation. Heck, I can use stress relaxation! Like, in a big way! I decided to try it out.
Booking online was super easy, and I liked how they send you an email reminder about your appointment with FAQs and tips on how to get the most of your experience.
I found the place easily. It is open quite early and stays open quite late; I think they said 7 or 7:30am to 11:30 pm daily, 7 days a week. So one could book a float session super early or super late — as late as 10:30 pm. I think that’s awesome, to have such extended hours. The ladies who work here were super nice, too, and very patient in answering my questions. As a first-​timer, I had many. Initially, I had to sign some liability papers attesting I’m in good health, etc. Then I was given a tablet and directed to the «pre soak lounge»: a dimly lit room with a faux fireplace. Relaxing place with upholstered chairs. The tablet had a 5 minute video explaining the whole concept of floatation tanks, explained what to expect, provided some relaxation techniques and positions to try while floating, and more.
I was then given a brief tour and was shown the women’s washroom (they have a hairblower there to use after the float, as well as unscented body lotion), the «post float lounge room» (where one goes after the float. It was nearly identical to the pre-​float lounge room, fireplace and all), and then to my private floatation pod room (I’m not sure exactly how many such rooms they have here. Between 4 and 8. I didn’t count).
The room is quite large, with a shower on one side and the very large pod on the other. The furnishings are sparse, in a Zen-​like aesthetic, with warm grey concrete and contemporary minimalistic lighting and modern Kohler shower hardware. I liked how clean it was. Like, you could eat off the floor. They supply the shampoo, body wash and conditioner (personally, I didn’t really like the shampoo or body wash, though, and I may bring my own the next time if they say that’s ok). They provide a fresh pair of earplugs (disposable, after you use them). And the towels are already there in the room.
I had a fear of the pod closing and locking me in, but the woman explained and showed me how they do not lock, how I could leave it open if I wanted, or how I could place a towel on the edge and prop the pod door hatch open an inch. She showed me how there’s a switch on the interior left side that controls the interior pod lights, and a switch on the interior right side that will summon them if you need help or assistance. There’s also a floatation «noodle» inside in case you want to prop up your neck with that, and a spray bottle with fresh water in case you get some of the pod salt water in your eyes. They thought of everything! I liked how you are in control of your own experience.
They give you the option of listening to «spa music» throughout your session, or only at the beginning and/​or the end. I opted for 10 minutes at the beginning and 5 minutes at the end. And, yes, I did rather enjoy the experience, so much so that I purchased two more sessions!
Note: if you have any cuts on your body, postpone your session as the salt water will sting it like crazy. And don’t shave the day beforehand. Trust me on this!
All in all, this was a relaxing experience that I suspect will be more relaxing the next time I try it out.

I’m giving this three stars not because of the wonderful staff who were very welcoming and were part of the whole calming mindset needed to make this a blissful experience. It’s not because the short training video in the calming room was perfectly presented on an iPad, nor the in-​room explanation… Nor the in-​room shower, soaps, shampoos, towels and calming Pod. I’m giving this 3 stars because of what others have said. If you’re going to offer music and it plays an important part of the experience and the timing of the beginning and ending, it would be REALLY helpful if you actually started the music rather than have the floatee lying there wondering when it’s going to begin and losing out on what should be the crucial first calming experience.
Also, I made two HUGE mistakes… and they were doozies. Don’t shave the day you float because that really-​really stings and doesn’t stop the whole time you’re in there and don’t drink coffee before you float unless it’s decaf.

I’ve been a customer of Urban Float’s Fremont location for awhile, and I was stoked when I saw they opened up a new location in Kirkland! My experiences at Fremont have always been positive, and the same was true for Kirkland. For those who don’t know, floating is one the tools my beloved Seahawks used to win the Superbowl, and are still using now one their way to winning their second!
Upon arrival at Urban Float you are greeted at the front desk by someone who knows if you have floated before, and if not, walks you through what the experience is going to be like from start to finish. Once you enter your private room, your are immediately impressed by sheer size of the float tank! For those that may be concerned with a claustrophobic experience, I really don’t see how that would be possible. The rest of the room is very nicely designed with a large shower area, towels, and a very «zen» feel.
The experience of floating can’t be put into words easily, but I will try. The water is the closest thing to a perfect temperature that I can imagine… like the vacation on the beach that you have been thinking about all winter. Once you you are completely in the water, you are immediately impressed by how effortlessly your body floats to the surface. This part is really like magic. but its not Chris Angel in the other room, its just a lot of salt in the water! As you slowly get use to the feeling of weightlessness, your body relaxes like a perfect state of relaxation that I think feels a lot like shavasana. I feel completely relaxed after floating, but I feel the most benefits the day after. Everything does truly seem lighter, and more balanced.

Never floated before. I’m a long time listener of Joe Rogans podcast so that’s where I learned about this. I won’t go into details about my first time float as I believe everyone should experience it for themselves. I will say that about 15 minutes after my float driving home, I felt more relaxed than I’ve been in a long time. I compare it to a massage. My wife did this as well and she compared it to doing hot yoga.
This was better than any chiropractor adjustment, and better than any medicine swallowed or inhaled. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive.
