Calypso Cay

Ohhh where do I begin? We stayed at the villas. Smelled moldy, stains on all the carpets, huge tub chipping from the bottom and the floors are so creaky and thin we had noise complaints just for walking with security guard at are door threatening to call police (oh and this was in the early evening not late night). We agreed to switch rooms on the last night of our stay with the promise we would get an early check in only for them to have lied and repeatedly told us check in is at 4 so we were left 5 hours with nowhere to go and our refrigerated food to rot. There is no communication between staff here. Disgusting. I would not recommend this to anyone ever! Oh and in 95 degree weather the AC only worked 1 out of three uses!
Update: got into our new villa more stains and moldy smell and again the AC dosnt work. The manager has a bad attitude as well as most of the staff! I can’t wait to leave. I wish I could give zero stars!

Definitely experienced better resorts, not that this one was ridiculously bad. But compared to the ones I’ve been to, there are a few shortfalls.
First off, we were registered for a Timeshare presentation, and in return, we would get $ 200 on a Prepaid Visa to use towards the Disney or Universal theme parks.
When we arrived, the tour center is at the front. We walked into the Welcome center, and reception seemed «unwelcoming». We were assigned a 12:30pm timeslot for the presentation but we wanted to change it. They can’t do it, they said… so we asked who can? They said «the tour office». Okay, where’s the tour office? then they said «Across the hall outside, but they’re closed». Why could she not have said that from the beginning? So they also told us that they open at 8:30am.
Next morning, we call at 8:30am, no one was picking up our calls. When we walked into the tour office, the 2 people there were just sitting there, doing nothing… so why couldn’t they pick up our calls?
Anyway, back to the resort…
We stayed at the Calypso Inn. The building looks really old, as you can tell from some of the pictures. We were in room 308. It was a 1 bedroom suite. What’s great is that it includes a living area, and a microwave! So we were able to heat up food whenever we needed.
What’s not great is that their blinds don’t close! There are no blackout blinds, so it was very difficult to sleep past the sunrise.
Food:
Breakfast is included so I can only comment on that. As we ate outside the resort for lunch & dinner.
Breakfast selection includes: eggs, sausage or bacon (not both), home fries/​potatoes, muffins, juice machine, 2 x waffle machines
Waffles were probably the best thing there, there’s always a line. They have a machine that dispenses the batter. Use that and then off you go to make your own Mickey Mouse Waffle (we’re in Orlando folks!). The waffles are made well, soft and super yummy with the syrup and butter.
Everything else is mediocre (eggs were not that great, they were made with powder, im 99% sure). Potatoes were way overcooked. And the meat was super super super greasy/​oily.
Service: Slow maid service, they never cleaned our room once!!! When we asked for new towels or hangers, it took them 20 minutes, each time. I think they only have 1 or 2 people working all the rooms, hence the slow service.
All in all, if it weren’t for the timeshare incentive, we would have never came here. Just beware and set your expectations before coming here!

3.5 stars. Actually not a bad resort. Was a bit worried after reading all the reviews but this place exceeded my expectations.
We found this place part of a tour package deal. Checked into the welcome center alright. They directed us to the hotel we stayed at. On site there are different hotels in the area ie Mariott, suitehill, villas etc. It can get a bit confusing.
We checked in to the inn section and we were given room 308. Our room was actually a 1 bedroom suite so a lot bigger than I expected. It was also equipped with a microwave and refrigerator! We had a separate living area with tv and couches. The couch does transform into a bed but we didn’t need to use it. We had our bedroom in a separate room, king size. Sheets looked a bit outdated tho. Washroom is standard 3 piece shower tub. It was clean. The rooms Carpet was old tho. And no safe in the room.
Also the housekeeping staff seem to only service in the mornings before 11am. We usually leave our room after 11 so we leave the door hanger for service please but once we got back around 10pm it was not serviced.
We were able to call for towels tho.
The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly.
There is free hot breakfast every morning from 6 – 930. It was great, a lot better than continental that most hotels offer. They had eggs sausages potatoes cereal yogurt some fruit and waffles, toast every morning.
The resort itself is very kid friendly! They have an arcade room, 2 – 3 pools, 2 hot tubs. A bunch of slides and playgrounds. Also we even played mini putt on site.
Also on site you can purchase discounted tickets to attractions.
They have free shuttles to the different resorts, but I highly recommend not taking it as it will take 3 times longer than if you drove yourself or taken a cab. We took lyft and ubers to our destinations.
Overall I was happy with my stay. Also the tour presentation with my package went very well with no pressure to buy.

Just like every other review about this place. We stayed in the villa and it smelled horrendous upon our arrival. We contributed the smell to the moldy ceiling, or perhaps it was the strange substance smeared on the bathroom wall. There was also red substances on the pillow. We called and all we got throughout 7 days was a covering of the mold on the second day and by day 6 there was a leak in the room. The tv was not hooked up on our arrival. I woud try the inn if you ever have to stay here. There villa uprgrade is not worth it.

After reading all the reviews I was a little scared. I went with my wife and four girls for the Easter weekend and I actually thoroughly enjoyed this place and will definitely go back. Here’s my review:
Pros:
*The location is awesome. Right off the highway and right next to a Walmart. Only a 15 – 20 minute drive to the parks. Free shuttle but we didn’t need to use it.
*the rooms were clean and roomy. Our room had a fridge and a microwave
*complimentary breakfast was good. No bacon or sausage, but eggs, yogurt, muffins, and waffles.
*pool was awesome. My girls spent hours going down the slides. Great for families
*staff was kind and helpful
Cons:
*housekeeping was ok. We ran out of toilet paper and I called twice and never got it. I ended up taking some from a housekeeper’s cart. No biggie
*would have loved protein with breakfast
I feel the bad reviews are older and the hotel has stepped it up.

Nothing went well at this hotel! Went to check in and was told we didn’t have reservations. To «try» back a t 2 pm. Had a confirmation number and the very rude girl at desk found the reservation. Never apologized or seemed to care. After checking in the room was dirty and shower didn’t work. Had to wait to be moved to another room. Still no water pressure and dirty room. We booked the hotel online so you could not get a refund on the next 3 nights. We decide to only stay 2 nights instead of 3. I have stayed at many hotels in my life and this was the absolute worst by far. Definitely the rudest employees I have ever met. We had to attend a timeshare presentation or we would be charged another 350 on top of the 375 we already spent. We were promised tickets to universal studios after attending the presentatio. Once we were done with the presentation we were told we did not get any the am park tickets. I would NEVER buy a time share at their location based on how we were treated an show poorly the grounds were kept up. Our vacation was awesome and stress free except for the hotel experience.

We stayed at the Inn at Calypso cay, it’s a really great place to take your family. They had 3 pools, the pool by the tiki bar was more adult friendly yet had a slide, then there was 2 other pools on the side of the hotel, one by itself and the other more kid friendly that was heated. Also a hot tub. Close to Disney and Universal.
The breakfast was great mickey mouse waffles, and a breakfast buffet every morning for those who stayed in the Inn.
The rooms were decent small fridge and microwave.
The only complaints I had was no do not disturb sign for the door and didn’t get any wash rags after the maid cleaned the room.
Besides that I highly recommend this place to families.

This hotel is one of the worse I’ve stayed in. We checked in late Friday and the price changed from what I payed for on
. I had to wait over an hour until the manager finally came to verify with their reservation department that what I showed them on my phone the confirmation and was the correct price and they still made me wait to verify. This was 1am in the morning. .I asked weeks before for a remodeled room and the rep Jorge said that’s what I’m getting, well when I got in the room it looked nothing like a just remodeled room. Maybe the furniture. The appliances were old and outdated and the washing machine full of rust. The base boards mainly in the bathroom was broken in places and rust all over. I looked in the shower because I wanted to take on after a long drive to get to Orlando.
The shower was discussing with hair all over! I called the front desk and the lady who answered didn’t apologize and said someone will be there by 7:30am that day. Well, after almost 5 hours of waiting and numerous calls back to the office someone finally came and guess what? The hair was still there after they supposedly cleaned. there was no manager on site on the weekend. I really don’t understand that. I left a message with Brandy if she really is a manager to call me. Well, today is Monday evening and still no call back. This is no way to treat customers. I came up to Orlando for my daughter’s Saturday wedding and I was almost late because of the shower being dirty. I should of listened with my fut feeling before I even booked this property, some of the reviews are really bad.

I would never stay here again. In town for two days. Poor check services and then there was the bed bugs. never again did not sleep a wink. Loud running teen running in the halls after 11 thank god between them and the begs didnt sleep a wink

Hotel hell is better! Room filthy, Tv did not work, Customer service sucks Room phone did not work, Lamp in master bedroom had missing knob and sharp metal ripped open my thumb. Window in room was broken in two places, two different panes and they tapped it together. Was assured by Manager that the issues would be taken care of and to go out enjoy our day, Hah ! came back only knob was put on lamp, everything else was ignored.
At 2 am checkin, clerk upfront could not seem to move quick, or multi task. Will not stay there again and will make sure I let all forms of Social media know of this.

Stay away! Called to get a Villa, we were trying to leave dirty, no a/​c in our room resort next door (Runaway Bch Resort) and manager JORGE would not allow us the courtesy to see if their villa accommodated us before waking up 4 children after midnight before booking! Of course he wouldn’t the rooms are just as bad or worse we were told by guest leaving! Stay away spend the $. You get what you pay for!

Staff is nice, exterior of the building is nice. Maid service is an extra fee if you want it. We also paid for a crib. Also had to pay resort fees each day. The same room we stayed in… double queen room, goes for 57 dollars a night online. The rooms in the hotel need a remodel. Shower curtain bar hanging off the wall… flooded the floor each time we showered. Notified the front desk, nobody fixed it. Room smelled musty… like pee. No shampoo in bathroom when we checked in. If you lose a towel there’s a fee. If you lose the card for a towel there’s a fee. Wouldn’t stay here again.

The place is nice and staff is friendly enough. However, make sure you bring your own toiletries. We were there 4 days and NOT ONCE did housekeeping show up to clean the room. We had to complain several times because we had no soap, toilet paper or towels. Needless to say, this is deal breaker. Oddly enough, housekeeping was all over the place on Sunday when everyone is checking out.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
My parents have a timeshare in Florida and they always use interval to book. Unfortunately, interval wasn’t aware of how terrible Calypso Cay is since they sent us here.
Our timeshare was from Saturday, August 8 to Saturday, August 15. We got in early on Friday, August 7, therefore, we booked a regular hotel room with them at the Inn (but got upgraded to a Villa). The Villa was great. We were excited about how nice and clean everything looked. The villa had a king-​sized bed in the master bedroom with a small LCD tv and a walk-​in closet. It was also connected to the bathroom. Then there was a children’s bedroom with double bunks and a big LCD tv. In the living room, there was a pull-​out bed and another big LCD. The kitchen and dining table were pretty neat, except I think the microwave was outdated.
Sunday, August 9 — we checked into our condo around 10:30pm (we were out at the park all day). As we walked around the condo, we noticed holes in the walls, broken floor tiles, stains on the bathroom doors, curtains, and ORANGE stains on the white bedsheets, a MOLDY, uncleaned shower, a broken hand towel rail, and a broken laundry doorway. When we wanted to do laundry and dry our clothes, the lint catcher flew out! When some staff member tried to fix it, they just put a 2^nd catcher in with the broken one… like what the. THEY NEVER CLEANED THE INSIDE.
My mom called the front desk at 11:30pm and asked if someone could come clean the shower because we all needed to shower, yet no one came. Then around 1:00am my mom called again and the maintenance guy (Alberto) came and told us he couldn’t do anything at the moment, jotted down our problems, and said he would ask management to send housekeeping between 8:00 — 9:00am the following morning. Come Monday morning (August 10), no one had shown up. We stopped by the front desk on our way out to Clearwater beach (2 hours away) and we told the «concierge» (Chris) our issues all over again. He was writing them down on a clipboard and that was all he could do. We asked to speak to the manager (George) on duty and he promised us our shower would be cleaned before we return. We got back around 10:00pm and guess what? The shower was still filthy!!! What manager doesn’t follow up on problems with the facility?! Empty promises, man.
Around 10:45pm, I called the front desk and Julianna answered. I explained to her the shower issue and she said Chris and George were already gone for the day. She said we could be moved to a new room if one was available or she could try to send someone to clean the shower. I asked her if I could speak to the manager on duty and she said he (Tom) was busy, assisting another guest. I asked if he could call back and she said «yeah, I’ll ask him to when he’s done,» Tom’s shift ended at 12:00am and never called. Julianna was able to send a man (Leo) over to bleach the shower entirely. He came with some bleach spray, a sponge, a toilet bowl brush, and some towels. We appreciated him actually stepping up and cleaning the unacceptable shower.
On Tuesday, August 11, we stopped by the front desk again around 1:00pm to mention the service we had received from George and not getting the phone call from Tom. We were caught off guard by a new surprise… my sister, her boyfriend, and his son went swimming the night before, rented towels and hadn’t given them back yet. Irma and Amanda were working the front desk. We saw a sign about guests being charged $ 10.00 for each towel not returned the SAME day… You also need towel cards to rent and they never gave my parents any cards upon checking in. There was also another party complaining, saying they needed 2 more towels but Irma wouldn’t give it to them because it said on their account that they hadn’t returned other towels and needed to pay first, so they demanded a manager (Natalie).
We also spoke to Natalie about the bathroom and George. She started writing down our history of problems and it was like we were a broken record, continuously telling someone on the staff our problems because no one communicated to each other nor checked the clipboard up front!
This place is filled with extremely unprofessional people. They don’t even greet you when you walk in. It’s the dirtiest place I’ve ever slept in. When I pulled out my bed from the couch, I noticed multiple dust bunnies and food underneath the space between the couch and the floor. The bathroom lobby in the Inn was also full of pee and paper towels on the floor. The one lat pull down machine in the fitness center was also broken during our entire stay! And we couldn’t watch TV because both remotes were broken. I accidentally clicked mute instead of the arrow to change the channel and I couldn’t unmute it!
ON THE LAST DAY OF OUR STAY, MY DAD FOUND TWO EMPTY CONDOM WRAPPERS WITH LOTS OF LINT IN THE INSIDE WHERE THE LINT CATCHER SITS. WHO CLEANS THIS PLACE??? NO ONE.

God can’t describe how bad its this place, 3 small pools for 5 hotels to use, no towels ever available too many african american, breakfast its cereal juice or waffles no toppings at all no shit terrible service the bartender in the tiki bar it’s great besides that forget it. Dont come seriously 2 elevators only one work and pictures r not accurate of the premises

Dealing with this resort has been entirely the worst experience of our lives #firstworldproblems. Thank the stars there’s Unilocal to warn people away from the Debbie Downer of American incorporated businesses. This «resort» is the perfect example that fulfillment of a few persons’ dream to make money via underhanded means results in a hellish reality for the vast majority of us unwitting masses.
Cheap product, practically no upkeep, poorly trained staff. American free-​market economy at its worst. Avoid this place and any time-​share affiliated with it. Negative 1000 stars.

If it were possible to give this sh*t hole of a hotel less than 1 star, I would. The only thing it has going for it is that it’s roomy. The furniture and floors are filthy and décor our of the 80’s. Don’t waste your money.

Everything was pleasant. It os a bit old but they kept it really clean. There are marks on the walls but restrooms and your bed is very clean. The floors are clean and the view is great if you were to look at the pool. I really wanted to get on the slides to the pool but only here for a night to sleep.
The most disappointing was the front desk have me a room right next to the elevators and the ice machine.
I’ve stayed in many hotels even across the ocean but I’ve never had a room next to the elevators.
Other hotel guests were extremely loud while waiting for the elevator and during 3 am I got woken from a hotel guest that was getting ice at the ice machine and that person even had to shake the ice in the container which made it more disturbing.
The mattress was not comfortable at all. I felt like I was half asleep.
If I had a room down the hall away from the elevators and ice machine I would give them 4 stars but it was too late into the night that I checked in around 9 pm so I had to just sleep immediately.

We reserved a villa at Calypso Cay for a long weekend trip with the family. Our deciding factor was finding a place to accommodate all seven of us into one apartment type of setting. This place provides great space and separate rooms. It wasn’t a priority for us to have turndown service, which is available upon request at an additional fee. The rates are already so affordable that the cleaning fees won’t leave you over your budget.
Driving up to our villa I noticed the bright colored buildings. They look like cupcake houses. Our two-​story villa has an awkward entrance. The first thing you see when you open the door is the flight of stairs that lead up to the kitchen and living area. Something else that also struck me walking in was the strong scent of paint. I was expecting the smell to go away after we returned from our day activities, but it did not. The beds were clean and just a little squeaky.
On a positive note, the villas are about 15 minutes away from the parks in Orlando and that was important when reserving. We were also able to do some laundry after we got soaked at one of the amusement parks. Cleaning products were left available for us. Overall we were satisfied with our stay at Calypso Cay.

Had the opportunity to stay at the Calypso Cay villas for one night this past weekend. Our party of 7 rented two adjourning rooms which offer a 2 bedroom side connected to a one bedroom villa.
Villas are great for families and visitors that are looking for more of an apartment-​style lodging situation as each villa is fully equipped with utensils, cookware, microwaves, full-​size fridge and washer and dryers.
The rooms are spacious, clean and full of any amenities you may need for your stay. Our second floor location overlooked the pool and miniature golf area. There is both a small pool area for young children as well as a larger pool for the rest of the guests.
I would definitely stay again and would recommend the villas to any friends or family planning to visit the Orlando area.
