JOES KULA AUTO

I’m sure the good rating’s Joe’s has received are courtesy of «friends.» I’ll explain why.
**For a place that prides itself so much on its historic Kula roots, they certainly don’t care to serve the local folks. This shop participates in «cherry-​picking» customers hence the great reviews. Word of advice to the shop – if you ever have to make up a straight faced lie to customers again, at least try to be convincing.**
I called ahead for a safety check and was told to to swing by. Drove from Haiku to Kula. The attendant took the information from five waiting customers, one of whom was his buddy. He speaks quietly to two of us. He returns to the remaining three (including myself) and says «the inspector can’t do the safety check because you’d have to move your cars into the garage and he’s not moving his hot rod into the rain» and turns us away. I left and, after doing a u-​turn to get back on the highway, see him helping the two customers he consorted with earlier.
**No Kula kindness or aloha whatsoever. The guys hot rod is more important than helping a few hard working people who just «pau hana» or finished work with their safety check.**
I’m not an expert but I’m pretty sure safety checks do not need to be conducted indoors – it wasn’t raining just a brief sprinkle. I would’ve appreciated being told they couldn’t help me initially on phone saving time and gas. Beware!

Lets say that you don’t need to get off the car and you get full service on refilling the car for you. The gentleman was really nice and had a great positive attitude and warm welcome smile. He was nice to talk to and gave some great advice on how to drive the slopes down the sightseeing adventure. The service was quick, we got in and got out.
This location was nearby to the volcano which i found very convenient for the location. I highly suggest you to come here for last minute gas if you need it before hitting up the 26 miles to the top of the sight seeing. Or you can just come here to get gas after hitting up the 26 miles. This is only 2 miles away from where the road is to the sightseeing.
Overall the vibe gave me a feeling of a old vintage abandoned gas station. I was surprise how wonderful experience i got from here at the end. i found it easy to find, quick, and great helpful service! Thanks for reading and lets explore Maui! Have a Unilocaltastic day!

Stopped here for gas and ended up staying about 15 minutes talking to Joe… fabulous service here and Joe is very helpful with directions, maps and even recommending hiking trails etc.
Definitely an old style feel instead of the usual faceless gas station service :-)
Loved it and will be back to fill up next time we are in Maui!!! :-)

Great service with a lovely view! Came in for a safety inspection and everything was fast, easy, and less expensive than I had expected. If you’re upcountry and looking for customer centered service this cute little gem is for you.

Great service with a friendly old school feel. We were really lucky to find this gem as we coasted down the volcano highway literally on fumes.
