Maui Upcountry Jams & Jellies

Jan doesn’t really have a storefront, and I didn’t know that when I drove to the location listed online. Turns out, this is the place where she makes, labels, and packages all her products. Yes, she does it all by hand with just a few other helpers! Luckily when we drove by she was in her shop and she allowed us in to just take a look at all the products she makes — jams, jellies, mustards, chili sauces, syrups. So many different flavors of everything!
You can find her stuff in some select stores throughout Maui, like how we discovered it in Kihei. We wanted to buy just a small jar of jam to use during our vacation, so we bought Maui Upcountry guava jam. We tried it with out toast one morning, and I immediately said «That guava jam is GOOD. We need to buy some to take home.» So I seeked out her location and here we were.
Jan tells us that the guava is grown right there on her property and is made by hand. Seriously, this place is just the size of a home rather than a warehouse that mass produces these products. I am in awe that she could do all of this by herself. I actually felt honored (cheesy I know) to have met her in person and been able to take my pick at anything in her shop. We ended up buying 5 guava jams to take home and share, mango jam, lilikoi jelly, and maui onion mustard. We also picked up a bbq (probably guava flavor, I can’t remember) to try at home. She kindly offered to package it to ship home for us. Boy, did she pack it well! All we had to do was take it to the post office. She sells her stuff at $ 7, but it is worth every penny. Those jams they have at the grocery store (I’m talking about you, Hawaiian Sun brand) has got nothing on Jan’s.
If you want to see her shop, I highly recommend calling her number first. We were extremely lucky that she was there since it was about a 90-​minute drive from where we were staying. And stop buying the cheap guava jam — by Maui Upcountry brand!

We have been stopping by Jan’s Maui Upcountry Jams and Jellies for years now and have gotten many of her jams, jellies and mustards. We have tried the guava, loquat, poha berry, among others but it is the Maui Onion Mustards that I have gotten addicted to so we always stop by whenever we’re on the island to pick up half a dozen each time. The prices have crept up from when it use to be $ 5 a couple of years ago to $ 6 last year and then now $ 7 this year so we may have to stretch our stash to last a little longer.
