Very very disappointed I travel and stay at a lot of hotels for work. booked a room through
got here and then they tell me the room we booked was not available. Then we get to the room and it is one bed for four of us. The only reason for not giving one star is the people who arranged the roll away were very polite and rapid to respond

I’ve stayed at many Marriott’s during my lifetime and over the course of my career and I have to say this branch is definitely undeserving of the Marriott name.
I can’t imagine this particular location ever hosting big conventions or work conference. It’s outdated and unimpressive. What hotel charges guests for Internet plus parking?! In my opinion that should be free and all inclusive of the room fees. This should be completely! Can I get an amen?
I had a regular room with a king size bed. The bed was nice and big but the bathroom was definitely outdated and the tub was yellow.
I’m annoyed that I had to pay $ 25 for parking. On top of that, the hotel staff was rather rude and less than hospitable. Also the toiletries were unimpressive, reeking of synthetic chemicals. They should reconsider the brands of their products. They should also offer water in the lobby. I’ve never been to a hotel where they don’t offer guests water.
I won’t be becoming back. That’s an obvious duh.

We stayed there this last week for two nights.
I wouldn’t stay again, the best part was the service from the valet parking, they went out of there way to be helpful.
I booked on line and I stayed there because of a last minute special for 199.00. When we got our bill, it was 199 for the first night and then 279.00 for the second night. I thought this to be misleading so I nicely brought it to their attention and they didn’t to help in the matter at all. The woman at the counter just said cant do anything about it you booked on line.
Like I said I wouldn’t stay again, the rooms were in need of updating.

Definitely my favorite place to stay when I’ve got business in North San Diego county and when overnights are needed. Strong WiFi signal in the guest rooms, conference area as well as the lobby makes doing business super easy and convenient. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is when at a hotel and needing to participate in a virtual webex where a weak WiFi signal keeps bumping you offline. No worries here! There’s also a lovely indoor/​outdoor lobby bar where you find yourself in a pretty hip and happening atmosphere if you decide to sit indoors or in elegant surroundings next to a warm fire pit if outside is what you desire. Indoor or outdoor … it doesn’t matter … food, cocktails and service is excellent and a fine choice if you plan to dine at the hotel. As a Platinum Elite Member, I’ve been fortunate to get upgraded many times to a lovely suite when there’s availability. The Concierge Lounge is one of the best of all the Marriott’s I’ve been to across the county and is always well maintained in terms of cleanliness and friendly service. San Diego Marriott La Jolla is an absolutely dependable choice of stay and has been consistent throughout the years on raising the bar and deliverying top notch service.

Worst Marriott! My family and I are Marriott vacation club owners and love every Marriott we go to. However when it comes to this location, it was our worst experience. The staff was extremely UN-​helpful, especially the two girls we delt with at the front desk.
HERE IS THE KICKER!
We were charged once for the hotel room and upon checking out, we looked at our bank statement to find out we have been charged twice for our room and the second time they charged us 150% of the actual price of our room. Keep in mind they had already charged us for our room once! 3 days later our funds still have not been released by Marriott.
Please don’t stay here. If you are a manager of this location please train your staff! I can deal with a mediocre hotel room but not $ 200 being withheld from me.

I stayed here in January, 2016. My room was ready by 4 pm. The room was clean and comfortable. The double beds were comfortable and the sheets were nice and soft and I liked the pillows too! My room was supposed to have a robe which it didn’t have, and for two people there was only one bar of soap in the sink area. I ordered a shower cap using the Marriott app but I never got the shower cap. I like the mint tea bags that they provide with the coffee. The air conditioning unit was kind of loud, I wish I didn’t hear that from my room. The view from the balcony on the 8 th floor was nice, there is a small standing room only on my balcony. We had a nice refrigerator in our room. Don’t forget to bring your own soda or water like I did. The sprite soda cost almost $ 5.00 at the gift shop. I wish they had a soda snack machine. My radio didn’t work in the room! I called room service but they said it was too late to do anything about it, it was around 2 a m., so I had to get my portable radio from my car, well my friend got it for me. My parking was $ 25.00 for 24 hours. I didn’t try the $ 20.00 buffet breakfast, instead I went to Caroline’s café in La Jolla shores, which was so nice, right on the beach with a view of the ocean, you can sit outside or inside. To order you stand in line and order your food and then you can serve your own coffee and sit where you want and then the server will bring you your food. It’s only a 10 minutes drive from the Marriott on La Jolla shores beach. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were enough for me. If you park at the student parking lot, you have to pay or they will ticket you. I went in a Sunday and they were ticketing cars that didn’t pay to park. Have a nice day. :)

This stay was complementary because we had a needle in our bed the last time we stayed. Last night we ordered a movie but fell asleep during it. We woke this morning ready to finish the movie but it turns out you can only watch it once!!! $ 17.99 for one watch??? No rewind??? No 24hour rental like normal places have it!!! Wow! I am disappointed in the Marriott.

OMG! We came in last night and we’re deeply impressed! The check in was a breeze! Staff were very attentive and super nice! We are still in our über comfy King sized bed writing this review and waiting for our room service order to arrive! Lol! We also have a great view! The room is a nice size with a huge flat screen and I almost slept in the shower last night… love the shower settings! We are going to catch the bar tonight too! Thank you! We will definitely be returning again!

Disappointing experience — not deserving of the Marriott Brand. We have ordered a room 4 months in advance of our trip. In our reservation we specifically mentioned needing two separate beds, so our 10 year old son could have his own bed.
When we arrived, we were informed in a very rude and condescending manner by the front desk staff that double beds were not guaranteed in our reservation, and since they were at full capacity, they could not even guarantee us an extra cod. The tone of the lady on the front desk was such that I felt we were asking for a complimentary Dom Perignon and Beluga caviar, not something that we specifically requested and should reasonably expect to receive upon our arrival — a basic sleeping accommodation for 3 people… Finally after an hour of back and forth they found a cod, but by that time it was 2 am (we just spent 7 hours on the plane coming from the East Coast).
The icing on the cake was that the elevators did not support hotel occupancy. It took us 40 minutes one time for an elevator to get down from the 7^th floor. Overall — I don’t recommend this hotel.

NO JACUZZI!!!
At a temperature around 50 – 60, no jacuzzi means no vacation… Can’t wait to go home!!!

Pros:
–Nice location, easy to find
–Friendly staff and easy check-​in at the lobby
–Ample parking
–Comfortable bed and spacious room
–Breakfast was AMAZING! We got grapefruit juice, coffee and build your own omelette as part of the breakfast buffet: D Excellent service in the restaurant
Cons (mostly in the room):
–There were smudges on the toilet seat (between where your legs are when you sit)
–I couldn’t tell if the refrigerator was plugged in and did not want to bother with the unreachable plugs
–I also did not want to bother with the coffee machine as it probably should have been on the table with clear instructions
–There were no liners on the trash cans or extra bags (we got only one bag for ice)
–The hair dryer had dust/​hair on it (in my 20 years of using a hair dryer, I never got any dust on my hair dryer!)
–There were M&M’s on the floor under the bed
–The time was not set based on Daylight Savings Time
–After we checked out at the lobby and confirmed that our parking was free, we were very unclear on where to turn in the room keys, even after we asked. We inserted the key to get out of the lot, but the machine didn’t accept our room keys. Hope we don’t get charged for them!
I had chosen this hotel because it was close to UCSD and I wanted to explore the campus. I thought it would be only a mile walk but it was about 2 miles to get to the main part of campus, so I had to drive from the hotel to park a little closer. I also wouldn’t pick this hotel again due to the price and the fact that the cleanliness standards weren’t up to par for such an expensive stay.

Excellent service from the front desk! Even though I had a reservation with wifi included it charged me $ 12.95 after showing in my reservation it’s included he honor it. Now that is the right thing to do and taking care of your guest! Beautiful room. Normally I get the handicapped room since I am in a wheelchair but end up in a reg room because I want a bathtub. Even the reg room are large enough for me including the bathroom. Very impressive. Also it had a balcony door. Off the air conditioner and slept with the door open. Feels great. Room service phone operator was even super friendly and got us extra shampoo right away. Very happy with this hotel and staff.

We enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. The lobby bar has several TVs so you can watch sports, and an outdoor patio with a «fire on ice» fireplace. It is quite cozy. There’s an outdoor pool and exercise area, but it was a bit cold the night we were there for swimming. The executive lounge was open late, which is nice, and the man working there was very friendly. Free wifi if you’re a Rewards member. Average rooms, but clean and experienced no issues while here. How often do you stay at a hotel and can say that?

I have to say, after being a Marriott platinum member and faithful for over 20 years the management at this hotel leaves us wanting to never come back to a Marriott property… Ever.
I’m sure you can see from the other reviews that there are management issues at this hotel and our experience of «policy» was no exception.
If you expect to have a warm and inviting experience I would absolutely skip this property and head to the beautiful Hyatt down the road.
What a shame that a property and a Marriott name can be dragged through the mud by such poor management decisions.

I am a fan of Ismahan. One of the friendliest and warmest people ever I have met at hotel check-​in. Ismahan really took the time to make me feel welcome and offered recommendations of her favorite places to visit in San Diego as a local. We were also given the «elite» treatment with a great room with a beautiful view of the city. People like her make hotels so memorable!
Unfortunately, this hotel did not have the most comfortable beds (compared to other hotels of this same class and quality).
I even found that the many Courtyard Marriotts I’ve stayed at in the past to be more comfortable than this bed. The bathroom door didn’t completely shut either which was annoying.
I loved that we were at the pool and the staff member in charge of closing it down allowed us to stay a bit longer. Another staff member that made our stay memorable! I am sorry that I didn’t catch his name.
I can look past the too firm hotel beds and hotel room door that didn’t shut, and remember the kindness from Ismahan — the best and one of the super nicest hotel staff members you would find if you stayed at a five-​star hotel!

A great location for a weekend trip in SD. Conveniently centrally located in San Diego. Overall a clean location, with great amenities, especially consider how relatively cheap the rooms are. Yes, no ocean view, but I’m ok paying $ 200 less for not being close to the water.
Thank you to Carolyn at the front desk! She was super friendly for our check in process. She went beyond the typical polite employee and really made us feel comfortable right from the start of our stay.
We’ll plan on stopping by for some more future visits!

We’re Marriott Platinum Elite peeps, and usually are not disappointed with the accommodations at most of their locations around the world. This one is no different.
Typical Marriott style, service, and atmosphere in a great location next door to the building where my husband is attending meetings in this week. I love that it has plenty of easy, self parking (indoor and outdoor), a FAB fitness center (one of the best I’ve seen, comparable to the Pinnacle in Vancouver B.C.), and a nice concierge lounge for breakfast, evening appetizers, and desert.
High level rooms have a nice view towards the coast, and there are lots of great restaurants and a big Westfield mall within walking distance. The area is quieter and easy to get around than down in the Village, so that’s an added bonus.
I’d definitely consider this location if you’re having a meeting, conference, or just in town for fun. Whatever Marriott has going on just works for them (and us), so I say, if it ain’t broke… :)
TIP: Valet parking is also available for $ 29/​day, self parking is $ 26/​day.
There is a Hertz rental car location on site, so if you take an airport shuttle here and just need a car for a day to catch the sights you’re all set!
If you’re Platinum Elite, free wifi and concierge is yours. If not, it’s a pay ala carte deal.

The pool is amazing as is the bar. Very San Diego! Fire pits and all the trimmings! The wings are great, the burger is amazing, and the beer is cold. What more do you need?
I love that you can actually keep warm and have fun here, even on cool nights!
The rooms are clean and all have balconies. And they still have Bibles in the rooms! That just makes me so happy!!!

I had a 2 night stay for a business trip. I arrived at noon and they only had doubles available, so I was asked to come back in 2 hours. I returned after my meeting at 6pm and was informed that I was already checked in. I went to my room only to find out that it was double beds and not the king I wanted. I had to go back to the front desk to switch rooms.
My room had nice plush pillows on a comfortable king-​sized bed with my 42 inch plasma by my side. My room over looked the courtyard. The food in my meetings was good and the service was very friendly. I love the huge fire pit by the outdoor bar. Definitely coming back if I’m in the area.

Really like the lobby area, especially the lobby bar. It opens out to a large, open patio at the foot of several office building towers. The restaurant downstairs does a pretty good breakfast, and I can definitely recommend the egg white breakfast burrito (which you can get to go at the Starbucks counter).
As for the rooms, we found a strong smell of mildew on one of the floors, permeating the entire hallway and our room. So they switched us to a much nicer suite with a balcony (Thanks, Marriott!). But I must say while I loved the spaciousness of the room and the massive TV, they cheaped out on the galley-​style bathroom area. It hadn’t been updated in a long time, and there were no towel hooks or a fan in the loo (no wonder things smell like mildew!). When I stay there again, I’ll definitely remember to pack my nose.
