Specialties
«Softer, Safer, Smarter Yoga»
We specialize in making yoga do-able, relaxing, and effective for all ages, sizes and levels of abilities. Our teachers are known for teaching safe, slower yoga without intimidation. We bring students into yoga who may have never dreamed they could do yoga, and in teaching those who have been keeping fit how to age slowly and gracefully through a slower, safer yoga practice. Owner and founder, Lanita Varshell, has taught over 10,000 classes since 1996. Her staff is well trained to customize each class based on those who are in attendance. Although we offer traditional Hatha Yoga, this is not hot yoga, or a hard-core work out Yoga Center. We are a mindfulness center, teaching body, mind, spirit yoga with a focus on breath and meditation.

History
Established in 1996.
A Gentle Way Yoga & Joyful Movement Center has been serving San Diego County since January 1996. Our founder, Lanita Varshell, began teaching yoga in local gyms, diet centers and karate studios, until she created a following of loyal students that helped her open a dedicated Yoga Center. August 1, 2000, we opened our first Baltimore Dr. location in La Mesa, and then moved January 2010 to a larger studio where we are today on Parkway Drive, just off Jackson.

Lanita V.
Business Owner
Lanita is the owner of A Gentle Way Yoga Center, and founder-creator of both of our trademarked styles of yoga: MIMSY — Meditation in Movement Style, and Aalamba — Yoga with Support. She has taught over 10,000 classes, and has certified yoga teachers since 2000. She is a Gentle-Traditional Hatha Yoga teacher, stress management expert, former missionary, and inspiring motivational speaker. She is known fondly as the «queen of relaxation» for her Yoga Therapy work with the very stressed and those in chronic pain, and for bringing students into yoga who never imagined they could ever do yoga. Lanita began teaching yoga in 1996, after being diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. Lanita is living proof that the many benefits of yoga can be experienced by anyone, any size, with almost any challenge. Lanita has led Yoga Retreats for 10 years in Julian, Ca., and has taught at Feathered Pipe Retreat Center in Montana, & Kripalu Yoga Retreat Center in Mass.
