Heard today this place closed their doors! I was at another yarn shop in La Mesa. I wondered how they could stay in business with their TERRIBLE Customer service. I stopped going there because I felt like I was bothering them.

Yesterday, i arrived at Two Sisters & Ewe, carrying my 7 pound Maltese. I asked at the door whether dogs were allowed and was told by a lady who said she was the manager, that they are not. She didn’t ask whether the dog was a service animal or not. (My dog is not a service animal, and I am always honest in stating that when asked).
I remained at the doorway and inquired about patterns I was interested in shopping for. The manager was cool, if not cold, dismissive, and somewhat arrogant. I felt that she didn’t like me, but of course, we had never met, so that was unlikely, but I truly felt as if I was a bother by just being there. I almost asked her how a small business could afford to lose a customer, as she had just done, but I refrained, for, I had no desire to start a confrontation.
I had shopped at that store before and had spent quite a bit of money there, but I won’t be going back. The reception from the staff has always been less than warm, and somewhat rude, but I’ve always gone back because I like their merchandise and the store is at a convenient location for me. This time the reception was downright unfriendly andI I was completely turned off by the manager’s attitude.

I used to go here all the time when they were in downtown La Mesa and it was great. Then when they moved things seemed to change. I feel almost unwelcome. I am greeted usually but after that it is hard to have any conversation with the staff. If your not a super regular it seems they don’t care too much.

Great big store with a large selection, but TERRIBLE service. I visited on the San Diego Yarn Crawl with my daughter. We were in the store for 45 MINUTES AND NOT ONE EMPLOYEE said anything to us. It wasn’t crowded. The people who were working seemed only to talk to people with whom they already knew. I had questions and was wanting to buy yarn. I saved my money and will not go back. Ever. Yarn and Thread Creations will get my business in the future. Yarn and Thread was crowded, but BOTH people working managed to talk to me EXTENSIVELY about yarn and projects.

I came in here just once with my boyfriend a few months back, and upon perusing the yarns and asking my boyfriend to look/​feel around for something he liked (I was planning on making him a scarf), I pull out my phone to check the time. An employee then comes over and demands we leave because cell phones aren’t allowed in the shop. I explained that I was just checking the time, and she pointed over at a clock and said, «then you may refer to this clock over here, but we don’t allow cell phones in this shop. I’m going to have to ask you to leave.»
So I looked over at my boyfriend and said «Well, I guess our money isn’t good here. Let’s go.»
We were both appalled by the treatment this woman gave us. He was convinced she was prejudiced against him (he’s a goth, and as you imagine, can sometimes make people uncomfortable with his manner of dress) and was looking for an excuse to ship us out. But we were the only customers in the shop.
You can’t send out everyone you think should be wearing bright colors, ladies. And from what I gather looking at your other poor reviews, you won’t be afloat much longer if you carry on like you are.

I love this place because it caters both to spinners and knitters. The girls are so friendly that whenever I’m in town I always stop in to say hi.
today I looked at all of the books for quick gifts, took a peek at some exciting spinning fiber, and oogled all of the notions. I was happy to score a pattern holder for all of my knitting project.

Customer service is great! Good selection reasonable prices are some of the pros.
Cons: horrible location, not many parking spots, winding yarn policy, return policy.
The winding yarn policy has to be the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read or heard. Especially when most shops let you wind your own yarn regardless of price (regular price vs sale) then, winding only available when not busy. What are you really serous? I wish I could tell my customers something similar. Sorry I’m busy come back later for assistance! Yea, no!
The return policy is within reason but store credit for unused yarn. Yes, no thank you if returns will hurt your business practice then you need to reconsider a few things about how you operate and why you’re in business.

I went into this store on the San Diego Yarn Crawl and what a welcome surprise. I felt like Alice in Wonderland with all the beautiful yarns and colors so neatly arranged. The ladies that worked in the store were so very nice and helpful.
I live in Carlsbad and this store is out of the way but I will go anyway because of the fantastic selection and nice people. What a treat.

This yarn store is a real treasure. They have an amazing selection of yarn whether you want bulky weight or lace weight. They always have plenty of skeins from a single dye lot, too so you don’t have to worry about larger projects being an issue with consistently colored yarn. Sign up for their newsletter to get information about when new shipments of yarn are coming in, or when they have yarn on sale, too.
They have wonderful, small knitting classes too! I recently learned how to knit socks in a three part class. There were four students total, so we all had plenty of hands on time with the instructor. Whether you are 3 or 93, the ladies who work here will make everyone who walks through their doors feel comfortable. I can’t wait to take another class from them!
The last Friday of the month they have «Fiber Friday» in the evening where it’s a potluck style get together from crafters. What a cute idea!
Some people may be put off by the higher prices of the yarn, but don’t worry. This yarn is the real deal. You want high quality yarn this is the pace to go. Once you knit with higher end yarn you will never want to look at the isle of bargain stores again.

I recently started teaching myself to knit. Why? I’m not sure, but it’s been pretty exciting and challenging all at the same time.
My friend gave me a quick lesson over snacks to correct the wild ways I was teaching myself before I was too far past saving when she recommended Two Sisters & Ewe. Promptly after our meet up I sped over to get wooden needles I should have bought the first time around. What was I thinking with that aluminum crap? Two Sisters is a great local spot that beats your selection at big craft stores and is conveintely located next to my husband’s barber shop. Nice!
The lady who helped me was really nice and found a nice pair of birch wood, size 9’s for me right away. Ta da! She wished me well and off I went. Two Sisters definitely looks like it could get pretty sisterly with my bank accounts if this knitting thing keeps going. No wonder women have done it for 100’s of years.

Two Sisters is my go-​to local yarn store. The store is spacious and they have a nice selection. The staff is friendly, but there’s no pressure.
I consider myself an expert knitter, but wanted to learn a new technique (magic loop) so I asked if they could arrange a private lesson. Within a week I was scheduled for a one-​hour class with Ray. He was well-​prepared and taught me not only how to do magic loop, but showed me a few other tricks that I didn’t know. For just $ 15 for an hour lesson, I thought my time and money were very well spent. I can’t recommend Ray highly enough!

Visited the store for the first time today, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. Enough to write a review, even (which I don’t do too often). I’ve been to most, if not all of the LYS in the San Diego area, and Two Sisters and Ewe has got to be one of, if not the best i’ve seen.
The store was spacious, organized and I loved looking at all of the completed projects they had on display. There were also tables and chairs set up in the corner for knitting/​crochet classes. The yarn selection was great and at fairly reasonable prices for a LYS. During my first trip I came away with a skein of lovely Madelinetosh laceweight.
The staff was courteous and friendly the moment I entered the store, making for an overall pleasant experience. I wish it wasn’t so far from where I lived; I would be going here more often. But it is definitely worth the drive.

I have been to almost all of the yarn stores in the San Diego area and this is one of my favorites.
Places to buy knitting supplies typically fall into one of two categories. The first is chain craft stores that are affordable, but have poor selection, low-​quality yarn, and staff who know nothing about knitting. The second is boutique yarn stores with excellent selection and knowledgeable staff, but incredibly highly priced yarns, and stuck-​up staff.
This store, on the other hand, is a nice middle-​ground. The yarn selection is extensive, the yarn is high-​quality, and the prices are reasonable. The only reason I don’t give it five stars is that the staff members are rude and unwelcoming. It is possible to warm them up somewhat if you really need help with something, but they should really be warmer right when you walk in.

The staff is amazing. The selection is awesome. I wouldn’t go any where else.

A couple of months ago, I decided that I wanted to learn how to crochet. Now in my past, I have attempted this task a couple of times, and I found myself just to unfocused and distracted to actually take the time to learn. Because of this I thought it was hard. Turns out all I needed was Annie at Two Sisters and Ewe. I walked in and right away I was surprised by the amount and variety of yarn available, I had a private lesson with Annie, and I still go to her for lessons and help. In the last 2 months I have complete 3 projects and I am so excited to move on to more complicated patterns and stitches.
At Two sisters they are friendly and when I go I always stay longer then my 1 Hour lesson. Just working on my project and talking to the workers and other customers. It’s a really nice place to learn and shop. :-)

Nice variety of yarn, and I’ve bought here several times and thought the staff were friendly.
HOWEVER, I took my 7 year old little girl in to pick some yarn for her second knitting project. She was thrilled at the idea, and picked a skein of bulky wool in variegated shades of aqua. It was on sale.
Her first project, she’d chosen a skein of Baby Alpaca Grande (not on sale) and loved watching it be wound into a ball on their ball-​winder, so this time, as soon as I’d paid, she asks, «Now you wind it into a ball, right? Please?» and she goes and climbs up onto the stool by the swift and ball winder.
AND, the sales woman (owner?) says, «Oh, sorry. We don’t wind, you know, sale yarn.»
Um…no, I don’t know. I realize that this (frankly really foolish decision except perhaps in situations of large/​storewide sales where it would be prohibitively time consuming) is not unique to this shop, but I did think it was unique to shops who don’t mind alienating local buyers.
There wasn’t a single other customer anywhere near the register.
«Mama, I want to see it go around on the winder, so it gets into a ball,» she says when I tell her we’ll go home and wind it, no problem.
«Why? I like to see it when she winds the handle.» All of this in hearing of the saleswoman, and finally I manage to get her off the stool and usher her disappointed little self out the door.
Two Sisters and Ewe doesn’t have nearly enough customers to be stingy in offering any customer service they can.

I love Two Sisters & Ewe. I really, truly do.
The yarn is fairly priced and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful when you’ve got questions (whether on yarn or a quick question about technique or a pattern.)
I’ve been in the store several times and went in this past Friday eagerly looking to pick up some Madelinetosh. Unfortunately, they didn’t have much in stock. Not their fault! It would take MT six weeks to ship more to them! So the two women working steered me in the direction of some similar yarn (Hello Malabrigo. Glad to make your acquaintance.) They even helped me figure out what colorways would look good on me! And I walked out feeling better than I had walking in. Five stars. For sure. I’ll be returning (and singing their praises!)

I was looking for a good local yarn shop to call my new home and I really found it here! The staff is very knowledgeable, the service was amazing, and all the products were well priced.
This store has such an amazing assortment of product — I spent almost 3 hours in there my first time! I loved that the store had different items around the store that showed the uses of specific yarns AND they offered free patterns for some! I am new to knitting so some of them seemed a little difficult for me but Robin and Jan gave me so many tips that I felt like I could do anything with their help :) I love that as well as their assorted classes that they offer private lessons for only 15/​hour! That is such a deal!
During the time I was in the store — many other first time guests came in and one of them brought in their current project in which they were stuck and Jan walked over and helped her through it… no charge… just help, one knitter to another. I love that the staff makes time to ensure that all of your questions have been answered… knitting angels!
I am already planning a second trip to the store!

I just visited the new location with my sister in-​law! Wow, the new place is huge and it looks like they doubled or tripled their inventory!
It was also nice to see groups with people of different age groups at big tables working on projects together.
