Art and Science of Eyewear opened its doors on January 2, 1996. We have enjoyed 18 years with a strong, loyal clientele in the Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda areas.

Owner Anna Fuentes is the driving force behind the company vision for eyewear:

Eyewear, seamless in its performance, personally styled to create an authentic image, unique and unrepeatable.

We are licensed opticians who fill optical prescriptions. Though we do not have an optometrist on staff, we have strong relationships with local Optometrists for prescription and contact lenses and with Ophthalmologists for any medical concerns. Ask us if you need a referral.

Anna Fuentes, ABOC, is a Licensed Optician and owner of Art and Science of Eyewear. Stop into the store and you’ll likely find her on duty along side the rest of her staff of highly experienced, licensed opticians.

These opticians do not perform eye exams. Instead Anna and her staff of licensed opticians serve as your eyewear «pharmacist,» filling the eyewear prescription your regular optometrist or ophthalmologist writes, fine-​tuning lens designs as needed to ensure that the eyeglasses you wear optimize your comfort, style and vision.

Of note: Anna has been wearing glasses since she was 10 years old and remembers how it feels to be the «kid with the glasses.» While the store is known for an extensive selection of adult eye wear choices, you’ll also find an unparalleled selection of choices for your children, too.

I have found my new eyeglass shop! After passing this shop regularly, I dropped in to see if they could help fit my every day glasses so they didn’t slide down my nose. They took one look at my sad glasses & completely took them apart. They replaced a damaged hinge, then proceeded to bend and manipulate the frames until they were perfect! I mean seriously, now I could wear my glasses on the tilt-​o-​whirl and they wouldn’t fly off! If you saw the original condition of my glasses, you wouldn’t think this was possible.
These peeps are eyeglass mechanics. They have a beautiful shop, and some really high end eyewear. That’s all they do — so they are experts at fitting you with your best looking options. They aren’t optometrists, so you need to bring in your prescription.
I’ll be coming here again — what a great find!

I asked if I could write down the brand/​models of kids frames. The lady who greeted me said ok. Then the optician decided he would not let me write down the names of the models that they carry because he feared that we would buy online. First, he would not tell me the reason for the policy and lied. He only repeated «it is our policy». I need to fit a 6 year old who has never had glasses so we need buy from a store. All of the brands are already on the website. I was only noting the styles that we like so I can bring my child back later. There are very few frames that fit a small child so it is a must to go to several stores and see what they have so that the trip with the child can be efficient and useful. Anyone could buy online, even after getting help. He is not preventing that from happening. You get business by giving great customer service that a customer can not get elsewhere, not by being rude and having an irrational policy.

Great selection. The optician didn’t listen to me. When I said no on progressives because they had been a problem previously, he kept telling me why I needed to try again. I bought the sell ($ 1,100+ for a single pair) and couldn’t wear the glasses. He told me they would change the lenses into a different progressive. I said I wanted bifocals. He told me to trust him and try this different progressive. I did and they didn’t work for me. I went back again and said I WANT bifocals which BTW are significantly less expensive. He told me he would change them to exactly what I asked for in the first place… For $ 200+ dollars. Really… Over $ 1300 bucks for glasses? The frames were not cheap but not crazy expensive… maybe $ 400. So what’s the story… They will change the lenses only once for free even if you can’t see, no matter what you wanted and no matter that your choice is much less expensive. The lesson here is don’t be talked into more expensive options. I think there are better option out there and I found one. I happily now sport bifocals AND I can see.

I am a friend of the owners of L.A. Eyeworks so I got my new eye wear directly from them but they needed some adjustments so I went to Art and Science of Eyewear to get them adjusted. I was expecting to pay for this service. I have previously bought glasses from them both in Lafayette and in the Walnut Creek store, which has since closed. Brian Cuellar, the optician there not only helped me with the adjustments to my glasses but called the optician at L.A. Eyeworks on the phone to make sure all bases were covered. When he was finished I asked him how much the charge was so that I could pay, He said there was no charge. While I know it is quite customary for eye wear shops to make minor adjustments at no charge, he spent half an hour of his time trying to make it right and I wanted to pay him but he refused. That is what I call REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE. I will continue to refer all of my friends to them. Thanks, Brian.

Buyer Beware! If you want to spend top dollar and receive very little in the way of service then this is the place for you! I spent $ 75 on a pair of readers that didn’t work for me. When I brought them in for an exchange or refund 29 days later, only then was I told the return/​exchange policy is 7 days! They didn’t give a rip about anything other than getting me out of the store. And out of the store is where I’ll remain. I suggest you do the same!

Art and Science of Eyewear is a high-​end, full service frame shop. The people there really care about providing great service — and they do. They have a great selection of frames, too.
I bought a pair of glasses there a couple of years ago, and one of the screws just fell out this morning. 5 minutes later, glasses repaired AND cleaned — I am a happy man.

The folks who work here are SO talented. I am super picky about my glasses, but I know I can walk in (as I did today) and the women working there can pick out 10 glasses (out of a huge selection) that will fit my face perfectly.
I always feel welcome, and there is never any up-​selling. The glasses and lens are expensive, but I have to say the quality of customer service and selection is top notch. I highly recommend them.

Lots of choices of cool glasses. Really nice optician helped me. I have the best glasses, after spending 1 ½ hours with the optician choosing just the right pair for me. Expensive (hence 4 stars) but worth it if you do it every 3 years, and then feel great in the eyewear!

Wow… I searched high and low for glasses, and the most frustrating thing was the crappy service I got, even the high-​end places. Enter «Art & Science Eyewear»! At the risk of look like a fake post, I cannot recommend this place more highly. Let me start by saying I am very difficult to fit. My nose requires a wide bridge but most glasses with wide bridges are simply too big for my face. (And my ears are uneven and I’m fashion stupid to boot.) Tuan literally spent an hour picking out frames until we found a great pair that fit and looked good. Once the glasses were made he spent a lot of time fitting them and walking me through care and use (something I needed because these were new «progressive» lenses). If you need special attention because of your facial «features» :), then this is the place to go.

I am always amazed at the quality of the service I get at the Art and Science of Eyewear. It doesn’t matter whether I’m getting something expensive or just having glasses fixed. They people who work here are phenomenal. Good advice, helpful but not pushy service, quick turnaround.
The selection of frames is impressive, too. They carry a lot of high-​end eyewear, so it can be pricey, but you’d definitely find something you’d like here. No question.

If you want perfect this is the place to go! Their staff is the most knowledgeable and professional people I’ve run across in this industry — and I’ve been wearing glasses most of my life. They have helped me fix other mall brand store’s mistakes, and I’ve purchases glasses from them. I would refer anyone to them! Wide variety of frames priced from moderate to expensive.

I really can’t be enthusiastic enough about this place. I’ve been looking for new frames for the past few weeks, and the first place I went was the Cal optometry center in Berkeley. In comparison to this place, the selection was not as good, and the people were not as helpful in selecting frames. The next place I went was LensCrafters, where the people were very unhelpful — all the guy was doing was telling me what kind of personality he saw with the two different frames I was looking at, saying if I was «hip and young» I would want the (more expensive) pair.
Art & Science of Eyewear was completely different. They don’t work on commission, and they are actually very sincerely helpful in helping you find the best frames/​lenses for you. As opposed to some fake marketing lines, they actually told me exactly what was good about different types of frames because of my facial structure, color of eyes/​hair, etc. Extremely helpful was that they explained what types of frames I should avoid given my very strong prescription — one pair that I really liked would have looked bad with the lenses I would need, and that kind of attention to detail is something that is completely lacking at places like LensCrafters.
The people working provide the best customer service of any glasses place I’ve ever been to, and are extremely helpful. If something doesn’t work on your face, they’ll tell you, and they’ll tell you why. I ended up choosing a better pair of glasses than I ever would have found without their help!
A note on their selection — they don’t have a lot of the «big name» brands (Prada, Burberry, etc). They focus more on less well known European brands, some names you may recognize, others you may not, but the selection has all types of styles!

Have your arms grown too short to read the newspaper clearly? Are you afraid that «guys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses» is still true? Run, don’t walk, to The Art and Science of Eyewear in La Fiesta Square, Lafayette, CA.
I dreaded becoming a person with glasses; now I (and my husband) can’t wait to shop at the best eyewear shop in the Bay Area. It feels fabulous to have to wear prescription glasses and the Art and Science of Eyewear, Lafayette, has the best selection of up-​to-​the minute eyewear (they don’t do run-​of-​the-​mill glasses). They also host Italian and French designer events. At their last trunk show, I saw an ordinary man transformed into Marcello Mastrianni and another into Steve McQueen just by putting on a pair of designer aviator sunglasses. Wow! What an evening!
As importantly, their dedicated staff provides you with the most expert advice and attention. The eyewear consulting team is made up of perfectionists: their measurements are exacting and they are not satisfied until you get the best fit that is right for you. They have all but eliminated scare factor that comes from realizing that you don’t have the eyes of a 20 year old anymore; they replace it with the confidence that looking and feeling your best naturally brings out. Go see for yourself!!!
