History

Established in 1999.

Brian Turner and Terri Winn erected the building, hauled the barn beams from Montgomery County, the oven from Colorado, put incredible time into the establishment in order to get that neighborhood bakery feel.

In 2007, we, the Lecys, established our lives in Lafayette and into Great Harvest.

Your Great Harvest Bread Co. in Lafayette, Indiana is a dream come true — our dream. We love great tasting, nutritious bread, and our desire to run a community-​based business led us to Great Harvest in 2007. They have been making great bread for communities across the U.S. for 30 years.

Your Lafayette Great Harvest looks like no other Great Harvest out there. We operate under a «Freedom Franchise.» The «Freedom» part means that we get to run our business in a way that meets our community’s unique needs. The «Franchise» part gives us access to the recipes and processes that GH has continuously improved for over three decades. The result is breads and sweets that will knock your socks off!

Jerry grew up in MN while Janet was raised near Lafayette. Lafayette is a great city that we are pleased to be raising our five daughters and one son. We’re excited to bring phenomenal bread and excellent service to you, our neighbors and friends.

Hubby went in today and got me breakfast from this bakery. Love that the blueberry scone was not too sweet and also love the muffin. Will definitely visit again and try something else next time. Highly recommended. Also– love the coffee. Make sure to try it out.

WOW! Stopped by the place today for a meeting and I am impressed! First of all the building is really cool. They have beautifully preserved, hand hewn wood beams throughout. I ordered the chocolate chip scone and filled up a coffee. The coffee was fresh and hot and the scone… Oh the scone. It was huge, jam packed full of chocolate chips and super fresh. I’ve never been a fan of scones but this particular one caught my eye and looked so good that I had to give scones another chance. Boy I am glad I did! I met Jerry and Janet the owners. Pretty sure they are the nicest folks in Lafayette. I can’t wait to schedule another meeting in Lafayette because I have found my go to place for a quick bite and a coffee in the AM. I know this is a chain, but there is something special going on here. I know each owner has the ability to «do their own thing» which in the world of franchising and sticking to the norm, its pretty cool to see that the owners are given the freedom to switch things up a bit. Do yourself a favor and stop in. The lunch menu looked pretty awesome as well!

I generally love Great Harvests. But I bought a bag of biscotti at this one and it probably shouldn’t have been sold, it did not do them credit. I know biscotti is supposed to have a long shelf life but this tasted **old**. The price is higher than buying something mass-​produced and I pay that price expecting GH’s usual freshness and quality.
Be prepared that they don’t sell the «French”(?) «Home”(?) White in uncut rounds as they do at other locations either — I like this option because I think the bread is beautiful and because it seems to stay fresh longer, so it’s a little disappointing for this basic flavor.
And maybe it’s different if you’re a returning, recognized customer but I don’t get the same warm vibe when you come in the door here as experienced at other locations — No one’s unpleasant of course! But it’s just kind of neutral like any other business, which doesn’t fit my impressions of Great Harvest. Maybe I’ve caught them at bad times, or maybe my expectations are high from elsewhere. But also, their samples here are slight compared to the generous slice you get at other locations.
I’m still a fan of Great Harvest, though! Will give this one more tries, it looks like people love it.

I adore this place. The building itself is adorable, the manager always talks to the customers and is so great. And the bread itself is awesome! I first tried their stuff over at the Lafayette farmer’s market where I saw a blueberry scone and needed it immediately. Then months later I went into the shop itself. The sandwiches are good, the breads are great, and the staff is always friendly and attentive.

Amazing :)
After having just moved here from out of state I received a coupon for a free loaf of bread from here. As soon as I walked in the smell of freshly baked bread hits you in the face in the most delightful way. Most of the space here is taken up by the bread, but there is also a small selection of pb and jelly. The lady at the counter greeted me by saying «Honey wheat or jalapeño cheddar? «. She gave me a huge slice of their dense and delicious honey wheat bread. It was still warm and had a little crunch. You can actually taste the honey in it. I got a loaf of the honey wheat and my husband and I can’t stop eating it since. We definitely will be getting all of our bread from there from now on.

We went here for luncheon sandwiches on very tasty bread and they were delicious; had the BLTs and some turkey and cheese on wheat. They have lots of breads here, including giving you a sample from a fresh-​made loaf; we had apple crisp bread and it was awesome as a snack later! I kind of expected to get a cup of gourmet coffee as well but this is mainly about bread and cakes and cookies and things. The front entrance is the wheelchair accessible one, not the side door.

Keep in mind, this is not a local shop as most people in the area seem to think. Rather, it is part of a national chain. Not that this makes the baked good any less delicious, but I simply wanted to set the record straight. That being said, they do make killer scones. The blueberry one is delicious. I loved when my former boss would bring these in for us to have during our morning meetings. If you come here, take my advice and try one of these. We also had them cater one of our luncheons. Everything was very good. The boxed lunches included a sandwich, chips, and cookie. They offered a variety of sandwiches; all of which were good. If you are looking for a decent bakery/​bread company, I would recommend giving them a try.

Got the breakfast blast as a gift (the real way to a girls heart is carbs) and it is amazing. It feels like a delicious bread pillow. It is amazing buttered or toasted or just plain. I will definitely be going back to try other gorgeous creations.

I bought a few dozen rolls for thanksgiving, and everybody loved them. There was a line spiraling out the door, yet I only had to wait for 3 minutes — which was impressive.

Although I’ve still only visited the physical shoppe twice, I have purchased Great Harvest Bread at the Lafayette farmers’ market on several occasions. It’s always been fantastic. I’m especially a fan of the Virginia Savory variety.

Despite the small parking lot/​driveway, I think this place is wonderful. Blueberry scones, morning glory muffin, honey wheat bread are all excellent products.
Just a matter of personal opinion, I think the cinnamon bread is just a little too sweet. I do, however, appreciate the free sample and the fact that you make everything yourself in-​store.

I always drive by this place and decided on a whim to stop by yesterday. My experience there was so wonderful, that I decided to write my first review.
Upon walking in to this place, I was immediately greeted by one of the friendly workers with a free sample of my choosing of their «Breakfast Blast» bread. So delicious!!! They have a fair amount of breads to choose from among many other items.
Apparently, they do a big lunch business and have several different sandwiches on their menu. I ended up getting the «Country French» bread and asked about the spreads they have available. They have containers of garlic herb, cinnamon butter, and cheese (maybe?) spread. Loaves run anywhere between $ 5-​$ 9. Anyway, this was a great first experience here, and I will be back!

Great Harvest makes the best bread ever! My total favorite is Cinnamon Explosion. It has the look and feel of an old country store. The staff are all very personable. They serve free slices of bread to try before you buy.
It is also great place for lunch. They make very tasty sandwiches on fresh homemade bread. It’s the way you would make a sandwich at home… lots of meat, vegetables, and cheese. There is very limited seating outside, so you have to plan on carry-​out.
I sometimes give Great Harvest products as gifts. They usually have nice bags or baskets that can be filled with granola, cookies, jam, bread, scones and more. It is a real treat to send a Great Harvest gift basket.

Yum! Local, not local, I cannot say. What I can say is that it’s delicious. It’s important to note that the hot sandwiches are only served until 2, so hurry up and get there by then. When I arrived, devastated to have missed the hot sandwiches (and the vegetarian option), the person helping me was amazingly accommodating and helped me devise a better option. She always cut me off a chunk of spinach feta bread, which was *also* amazing. Go there. Eat. Even if it’s a franchise. It’s the freshest, best tasting food I’ve had for lunch in a long time.

Great Harvest Bread is a little shop, located in Lafayette. They make their own fresh tasty bread and various kinds of pastries. Also, be sure to grab a flier or check their website on what they make each day to get their freshest of selections. Although, they do have their regular choices of loaf bread and swirls; they also offer seasonal bread depending on what’s available in the market such as pumpkin spiced bread during October time frame.
I often walked into Great Harvest with an empty stomach and walked out of that place full. They always kindly offer customers to sample their wide selections and I often walk out with multiple bags of bread/​swirl/​scones.
Bottom line, Great Harvest is THE PLACE to get your bread/​pastry/​scones/​muffins/​etc HANDS DOWN! Literally, everything they sell is tasty. I hadn’t once been disappointed. If you are a bread lover, like me, this place will definitely put a smile on your face and it will keep you coming back for more!

It is as good as it gets at Great Harvest! The bread is fantastic and totally worth the $ 6-​$ 9 (depending) per loaf. Personal fav’s are the pizza bread, the garlic cheddar, the virginia cheddar and oh – pretty much anything!
They also have a frequent buyers card so you can get a loaf free after some punches.
Their sandwiches are also very good – they have THE BEST grilled cheese in the world – seriously the best – sure it’s good at Main st cheese – but this is BETTER!

I miss Great Harvest. When I went to Purdue, I would go to Great Harvest once a week to buy my bread. They had a great selection. Plus, their cinnamon rolls are to-​die-​for. They are sooooo sinful. I realize now how unhealthy they probably were, but I couldn’t resist at the time. Yum… how I wish I could put my mouth on one of those cinnamon rolls again.
They also have cookies, which are freshly baked. Delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything from Great Harvest. They had some sort of cheddar bread that made great sandwiches, especially with leftover parmesan chicken tenders. Oh, so good. I have fantastic memories of Great Harvest. For some reason, I remember more about the food I ate in college than the classes I took (and I graduated with highest distinction). Sad… but that must be why I am a Unilocaler ;).

OMG! I just went here a couple weeks ago in search of pumpernickel bread. Unfortunately they don’t make that, but they do happen to make the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies in the friggin world!!! I’m officially an addict now. I’m glad they are so close to my house, but I’m afraid I will gain 50 pounds with all the cookies I plan to eat. They always have some new bread to sample and it smells wonderful inside the store. The sammies are great and the people are very friendly. I’m not sure what else someone could want from them. I have found Nirvana, and it defiantly involves their cookies.

I couldn’t imagine going back to Payless bread after getting a loaf from here. They have sandwiches to go, fresh bread and sweets like cinnamon rolls and fruit bars.
