Official Name for the Downtown Disney Dine-in Theatre is Fork & Screen. Super fun. Disney cast members get a discount(I paid $ 10 for the movie) When you go in to buy your ticket, you choose your seat as well. Upon entering the theatre, an usher showed us our seats and the server came by quite quickly. Now granted I saw a 1pm showing of the Hangover 2 on the day it came out so the theatre wasn’t too crowded so early in the afternoon. The menu looked pretty good, food ranging from 6.99−12.99, about the same thing you would pay for a meal at say… Friday’s. Beer was regular priced but you could also get buckets… Once the server got your order, anytime you needed anything be it a refill or order something else, there is a little button to «call» the server to your seat. My friend didn’t quite like her quesadillas(there was buffalo wing sauce on the chicken) and she wasn’t prepared for the spiciness… Our server graciously let her order something else. Me, I ordered the sampler platter– wings, chips, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. I wasn’t too impressed with any of it except the wings. Note to self, next time just get wings. Cast members did not get any sort of discount on the food but I was able to credit the purchases to my stubs card, thus hopefully accumulating my points faster… which I do believe I should be expecting my first stubs reward soon(and only had the card a month! woot woot!) All in all, it’s a neat-o experience if you like eating real food and watching movies. Next time I may just try some dessert… Oh, and P. S. buy tickets early so that you have a better choice of seating. Otherwise, just walk to the other side of the theatre and get popcorn with your movie instead.

I heard about the soft opening of the new Dine-In section of AMC at work the other day. I had a date coming up and thought, what the heck. Why not try it. When I got out from work, I went straight over to the theater to reserve seats for the 7:00 screening of Tron. I was told ahead of time that you pick your specific seats. Bad thing was that I only had the choice of the first two rows or the back corner. Not good. Oh well. Can’t be picky when it’s free, right? We got to the theater about 20 minutes before the movie. I was asked if I knew where I was going. I figured how hard could it be to find my seats in the back corner. When I turned into the theater, boy was I shocked! That place is completely different. And my seats were right in front of me! Back corner doesn’t mean the same thing here as it does with stadium seating. They were actually fine to see the film from. Once there, our server told us that they changed their offer a bit. In order to get more practice before the official opening, they were offering either a free appetizer or entrée to everyone along with free sodas. I didn’t grasp this(because free doesn’t come often at Disney) until the bill arrived and balance due was $ 0.00! We were even brought a dessert that we didn’t order! Not a bad date! As stated by Christopher, the movement around by all of the servers can be a bit distracting. If you’re looking for a nice quiet date night movie, this isn’t it. Maybe it will settle down once they get into a groove. But I’d be willing to come back again if I was out with friends and wanted to get some dinner.

I love to go to the movies for the big screen experience but if I had my choice, I would rather wait for the movie to come out on DVD so I can watch it in the comfort of my home. I like to sit in my PJs… eat a meal… have a cocktail… and stop the movie when needed to use the bathroom! Well, AMC is starting to roll out new versions of their theaters called AMC Dine-In Theatres! Granted I really would not show up in my PJs or be able to stop the movie to pee but you now can order food and cocktails while watching first run movies! I know it is not a new concept. I have been to a few places over the years that let you eat and drink while siting in comfy chairs and watch movies… Enzian… but now AMC has taken this concept and is starting to make it main stream. My partner and I had the opportunity to check them out during a soft opening they are having this week so we got in for free and just needed to pay for our meals. They have taken the entire east side of the AMC24 Theater at Downtown Disney and converted 5 or 6 of theaters into these new ones. Everything has been cleaned up and improved. There is a ticket booth in the lobby where you purchase tickets. Seats are assigned! This helps keep groups together. In the lobby is also a very large bar called MacGuffins. You can meet up for drinks here before or after the show. Very nice. They not only have seating at the bar but also in the lobby as well as outside the doors so you can enjoy the cool nights. Anyway, once you are ready to go to your theater, that is were you give your ticket to the taker. They check everything out and then send you down to your theater. Once inside, someone will help you find your seat. There are three sections… each 4 seats wide. They took out the row of seats in front of you and added a long counter. Each counter has soft lighting and a call button for your server. The seats are wide and comfortable and they also have a metal bar below the counter that is great for a foot rest! No more being kicked in the back by the person behind you! Once you read the menu and make your decisions, you push your call button and the server will come to you and take your order. The staff was wonderful! Everybody seemed so nice and were very happy to help you. Our server was named Charles and he could not be friendlier! We started off by sharing the Parmesan fries. They were hot and very good. I had the Blue Max Burger and my partner had the Bistro Chicken Mac and Cheese. Wow… both were excellent. My burger was so big I could not finish it all and the Mac and Cheese was also a very large portion. If you can’t finish, they will give you boxes to take leftovers in. All the food was hot and fresh and tasted fine. The prices were a bit high but remember, this is on Disney property. $ 9.99 for my burger and $ 10.99 for the mac and cheese. They offer a great menu… starters, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, their house specialties, and desserts! Full bar, bottles and draft beers, wines by the glass or bottle. Since this was a ‘soft opening’ they were not playing first run movies. Most of the movies we had seen already so we decided to see Tron again. Now, granted, with this type of atmosphere, there is going to be noise… people talking… dishes rattling(I dropped my knife and it sounded like a gun going off)… people walking back and forth… but it was not that bad. I did remember from the past that the noise level would be higher due to all this but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. We did talk about it after our experience and did think that if this was a first run movie and I wanted to really watch it, the noise might have been a distraction but since it was a movie we have seen a few times already(movies and DVD at home) the movie was not that important to us… the food was. So I am not sure if this type of experience would have been worse if we came to really see a new movie. Also, We both would not consider watching a 3D movie this way… glass on… glass off… etc… it would be too much to deal with trying to eat and watch the screen at the same time. All in all it was great and I hope it just gets better. The prices are about the same if you did dinner and a movie in two separate places. By doing this, you can do both at once! I say give it a try if not for the experience. The food was great, the drinks were good and the staff was super friendly. Hopefully you will have a great time with the new AMC Dine in Theater!
