I have to give skippers 5 stars. The service was absolutely incredible! I mean they interact with your child. Really give you the best bed side manner EVER. So funny and sweet. Our server Emma was so genuine and informative. She remembered our sons name without seeming like she was trying. It was his first birthday and they came out with a cake that was very personal. Multiple servers came over the play with our son. It was incredible. The Cuban little appetizer, the pork and tostones were absolutely delicious!!! Must get. There was a small wait but definitely worth it. I was so pumped to come here. Would return.

What a refreshing change of pace for the Magic Kingdom! First of all, I love that this location only accepts walk ups, making it significantly easier to visit on a whim(a rarity at the Disney parks!) We were greeted by witty Skippers, and handed a pager. In the waiting area they had complimentary water and hot cocoa(it was a very chilly day), and I thought that was a nice amenity that I’ve not seen before at a Disney restaurant. Our table was ready within minutes, and we were greeted by our personal Skipper. Our Skipper mentioned he was new, and you could tell that his jokes were still a little rough around the edges(I’m sure he’ll be great once he gets into a groove!) The menu has a lot of unique offerings with Asian flare — and I had a difficult time deciding what I wanted, but only because I wanted to try so many items! I ended up picking 2 appetizers as an entrée so that I had the opportunity to sample a few things. The dumplings were so tasty! Perfectly steamed and popping with flavor, and the arepa starter was a fun assemble yourself option. Perhaps the stars of the meal were the mango specialty drink(get the pepper around the edge of the glass! I don’t like spicy things, but the heat combined with the sweetness of the mango cannot be paralleled!) and the Kungaloosh dessert. While nothing like the Kungaloosh beverage from Pleasure Island’s Adventurer’s Club, the dessert certainly holds it own! Heaven! I eagerly await my return to this gem in Adventureland!

I visited the Skipper Canteen yesterday for the first time. After seeing mix reviews all over social media I was not expecting much but boy was I pleasantly surprised! There was no wait to be seated which was awesome(no reservations can be made as of yet). Our skipper Angie was funny and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the homemade Arepas(its sort of an sampler platter with an unbelievable delicious beef concussion, fried plantains and black beans with a bit of queso blanco on top), I had the steak salad(steak was perfectly marinated and the dressing was super flavorful), my sister had the open face dumplings and for dessert we had the coconut bar(it was just right on the sweetness level and the perfect size to not be too much dessert after a full meal. For some reason I expected it to be cold but it wasn’t.) At first the prices looked to be a bit higher than the standard WDW table service restaurant but based on the big bold flavors, quality of the food and the whole experience with the skippers I thought it was worth every penny. Ohhh, and they carry the Melon Frosty soda that’s on the Club Cool at Epcot!

This is a new sit-down table service restaurant located within the Adventureland area of Disney’s Magic Kingdom. The theme is that of a «mess hall» for the Jungle Cruise skippers, with a «library» dining room area. I don’t think that reservations are taken at this point, but it could certainly happen later on, once the place has fully taken off. I waited no longer than five minutes to be seated. The menu is fairly simple, with a list of beverages(no alcohol served), appetizers, entrees and deserts. The Canteen serves a variety of dishes that bounce between Asian, Caribbean, South American, African(Jungle, Tropical, get the idea?). I wasn’t looking for a heavy meal so ordered two appetizers and dessert. I probably should’ve stuck with two choices. For the appetizer portions were quite fair! I ordered the SEA Shumai and Arepas. Shumai were roughly about the size of a golf ball. Perhaps a bit larger. They were steamed – yummy! The soy dipping sauce seemed saltier than I’ve ever tasted but no biggie. Arepas were also tasty. The Tostones(fried green plantains) could’ve been better but, I understand this isn’t a Latin restaurant and perhaps they haven’t developed a system to properly cook them in that style, and keep up with the high turnout rate of the orders. The beef was ONPOINT, and the black beans with pico as well. Desert was the Coconut Bar, a light yellow cake with coconut lime ganache, edible flowers, sugared basil(OMGAMAZING touch to this sweet dish!), chocolate arch and mini meringues garnish!!! I definitely need to come back perhaps for dinner. Their entrees look very delicious as well. Service, as to be expected with Disney, was impeccable. Be warned. The servers have a one liner joke for EVERYTHING. and I do mean EVERYTHING.

Disney World hit another home run in my opinion. The Jungle Navigation Company Skipper Canteen in Adventureland is a wonderful mix of corny jokes and eclectic good food. It fits in well with the surroundings and ties together the attraction and restaurant brilliantly. I had the Falls Family Falafel and the A Lot At Steak Salad. Both delivered on flavor and presentation. The falafel came with a tangy cucumber yogurt sauce and sliced red onion. There were 5 – 6 falafel on the plate which would make it a good dish to share. The steak salad came with tender steak on a bed of lettuce, grape tomatoes, carrots, red onion, and a drizzle of sesame vinaigrette dressing. Not too overpowering, but enough nutty flavor to accent the dish. Service was stellar and friendly. Bring the family. Bring the friends. You’ve got to try this… and then get out. Sorry, that was rude. Please get out. :-P

Waited 30 minutes to get seated, but this was Christmas dinner at Magic Kingdom when crowds were in full force so they’re probably much faster on a normal day. Food: I have to give it up, the menu looks fantastic. I don’t think anyone comes to Magic Kingdom expecting to find diversity of global cuisines, but there are definitely a fair number of options here, from Asian and African to Latin American and American. Rice Noodle Bowl with Duck: Solid. There were some good flavors in the Phở broth but it wasn’t mind-blowingly good or anything. At $ 23 it’s definitely on the pricey end even for theme parks. Grilled Lamb Chops: I thought the lamb was delicious, but there were only about four medium-sized pieces on the plate. Same story as before, it’s quite a bit pricey sitting at $ 25. Coconut Bar Dessert: Tasted pretty good; the bar is actually more of a cake and was nice and soft on the inside. Fanta Melon Frosty: Relative to the rest of the menu, it’s pretty cheap and so, so refreshing. If you think the water tastes super weird like we did, you’ll order several glasses of this instead and won’t regret it. Service: The service had both its highs and lows. Our waitress dropped pun after pun on us and made the dinner very lively. However, the food just didn’t come out; I think I ended up getting the dessert around 30 minutes after I ordered it. I’m slightly sympathetic because like I mentioned earlier this was Christmas dinner so it’s probably not usually that bad. I have pretty mixed opinions about this place. The food was pretty good(but not the best I’ve had at Disney World) and the atmosphere was fantastic. They also offer you a diversity of options you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in Magic Kingdom, but as a whole the menu is pretty overpriced so be ready to pay for it.

I’d been excited about this new restaurant — the Magic Kingdom has some fairly weak dining options right now, so it’s a great time for something new. This is a good effort and a fun environment, but I was a bit underwhelmed. There’s room for improvement. I stopped by on a chilly Tuesday evening and was pleasantly surprised that a table for 2 would be available almost immediately. We were asked to wait inside and within just a minute a hostess was walking us to our table. The theming is fantastic — lots of creativity on display. The main dining room is open and airy, and there are smaller rooms, little passageways, and nooks and crannies to explore. There’s a bit of an Adventurer’s Club feeling. The staff is friendly and everyone seems like they like playing their part — the concept is that the canteen is run by jungle cruise skippers on their days off, so everyone was equal parts enthusiastic and corny. Our server Matt was friendly and stopped by our table a few times just to tell jokes. The food was just OK. Our waiter explained the menu(which is pretty small) featured Central and South American flavors. I’ll be the first to say that I’m not an adventurous eater, and I had a hard time deciding what to order. Prices are a little high, in the $ 18 – 26 range for most entrees, and so I really didn’t want to blow 25 bucks on the wrong thing. We asked our waiter a lot of questions and he was helpful in pointing out which dishes were spicy and which were just spiced(with different flavors). I ended up ordering an appetizer for my entrée, the arepas — I got a kind of deconstructed plate of arepas, slow cooked beef, beans, and tostones, which was tasty. It seems like it would be a bit awkward to share if you were ordering it for the table, but overall a nice option. We’d also ordered a falafel plate to share — fine, tasty, a nice starter. My friend ordered the mac and cheese, which our waiter explained was a little more like a stew since it had ground beef and tomato sauce as well as the macaroni and bechamel sauce. The presentation was nice and she enjoyed it. Before our food came our waiter brought a loaf of celebration bread and a spiced honey dipping sauce. The honey sauce was odd — fine for a bite or two, but I prefer a savory butter or olive oil option. The drink menu is also worth noting — no alcoholic beverages, but there were a few signature drinks that were fun. My friend got a slushy apple drink that was tasty(but very very sweet). Between the unusual flavors, higher prices, and relatively small menu, I don’t really expect this restaurant to be hugely popular. The kids menu seems like a hard sell for most children I know(most items are just variations of things on the adult menu) — I’m all for expanding options beyond chicken fingers and burgers, but the few options offered here will only satisfy kids who love trying new things. I don’t see myself coming back here for dinner anytime soon, but I could see stopping in on a hot day and sharing a few appetizers for lunch or a snack.

My husband and I visited Magic Kingdom because we had heard this restaurant had recently opened and we were anxious to try it. Skipper Canteen is located just past the dole whip counter and across from the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. We walked up at about 2pm on a Saturday and were immediately seated. I had tried to make reservations online but the website stated they were all booked. The server explained they weren’t accepting online reservations for the time being, so walking up and checking availability is the best way to eat here. He explained since most people don’t know that, they hadn’t been super busy so that’s why it was so easy for us to get it. We were seated in the main dining room at a little two seater table by the window. This restaurant is insanely decorated with lots of little treasures hidden throughout. I wish I had taken the time to look in the other rooms because I had heard after we left that there was a nod to Mystic Manor in the room with the bookshelves. Our server was excellent! He pointed out all kinds of different apps, drinks and meals for us to try. I explained I had a cinnamon allergy and he was nice enough to then point out what I could eat and any substitutions I could do. His corny jokes actually made us laugh a lot but he was generally just a nice guy who chatted with us. There are no alcoholic beverages here but they do have some awesome specialty drinks. I got the Schweitzer Slush which comes with a biodegradable straw and green apple boba balls on top! It’s really sweet! We started with the S.E.A. Shu Mai appetizer which is basically an open pot sticker with soy dipping sauce. We loved it!!! I would go back just to have this app only. We also were served the complimentary bread service with honey for dipping. The honey was too thick and sweet for me to dip the bread in but I still enjoyed it. It was definitely a change from normal bread services at other restaurants. For lunch I really wanted to have the Trader Sam’s Head On Shrimp but the rice it comes with has cinnamon in it, so our server had them substitute the rice for stir fry veggies. They made it so easy to switch the rice out for me and never made me feel like I was asking for more than I should. My lunch was so good and the perfect portion size. At first I didn’t think I had received enough shrimp but I was very wrong. The shrimp were huge and the veggies were sitting in chili garlic sauce that really complimented the whole dish. And of course I got dessert! The kungaloosh! Chocolate cake with caramel ice cream and a caramelized banana! Absolutely delicious and definitely too small to share. I loved everything about this place, from the décor to our server to our food, everything was amazing. I love that Disney is putting time into themed restaurants that serve more than your typical burger and fries. I will definitely be back!

We went for lunch and only had to wait five minutes or so. The interior is beautiful and the staff dishes out the puns as often as do the Jungle Cruise guides. It was a very fun experience and the food was quite good considering it is a theme park restaurant. They are willing to make a variety of the dishes as vegetarian if you ask, which was nice. Entrees averaged about $ 20 for lunch and the portions were average. The restaurant does not accept reservations at this time.

This restaurant has been open for one month at Disney. It is actually quite a ways from where the river cruises. Go over by the Dole Whip and you will find it. The wait was very short, but we ate at 1:30 in the afternoon. The food to quite a while to arrive at our table, which was in a secret room behind the main dining room. I would highly recommend that you try to get seating in the secret room as it is very entertaining and has lots of atmosphere. The main room is kind of noisy and the other private room is really for little old ladies who like China. The food was a huge disappointment. The crew stew was not as pictured in the menu at all. There was only a tiny piece of squash in the dish. The flavor of the crew stew was quite good. The collard greens were the best surprise as they were not cooked until they got soft. Another dish that we had was the steak and salad. The Thai seasoning on the steak made in all four pieces of it taste very good. Unfortunately, those were the only eight bytes that could be eaten because the lettuce was rotten. They were nice enough to take the price of this dish off of our final bill. The macaroni and cheese looked really good, but the flavor wasn’t exactly as expected. There was perhaps a cinnamon flavor to the ground beef that was in the macaroni with white sauce. The bread that they bring to your table has a very strong acidic flavor and served with a dish of honey. It was as if we were eating wheat flour and baking soda dipped in honey. Our experience with the appetizers was not too dissimilar as the flavors are not what you might expect if you ordered this type of food before. It is a shame that Disney is serving this food. The main course is going to run you at least $ 20 per person, and if you get appetizers and drinks you’re going to spend about $ 40 per person with tax and tip. I strongly advise that you eat one of the fast food take outs inside Disney to get higher quality meal. The highlight of the entire meal other than the core of the secret room is that they have very funny jokes that the staff tell such as we will bring your food in 3 to 4 months. Unfortunately I believe that is how old is salad was below our steak…

A much needed new experience in Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Great for those looking for something more than the typical theme park food service(burgers, fries, chicken, pizza, etc.) The theming of this restaurant is superb, especially if you like the Jungle Cruise, there are tons of little details that many can appreciate, be sure to take a look around! Service is fantastic served in the style of the Jungle Cruise skippers so expect lots of corny jokes and puns, perfect way to keep that theme park/vacation mentality. Food is a great mixture of African and Asian cuisines. I personally got the Shiu which is a type of grilled pork chop so tender and very fresh. Everyone is also treated to a bread sampling which comes with some delicious honey as well. I can’t wait to come back and try out other entrees as well and to hear more jokes!

My wife and I visited here before Christmas, so it was still in soft opening. We were seated under 30 minutes and our waitress came ’round soon after. They give you a loaf of bread with a small dish of spiced honey. It’s quite tasty(and they’ll bring you more so eat up). We tried the Schweitzer Slush and boy was it good. My wife got the Skip’s Mac and Cheese. It’s not your ordinary Mac and cheese. It has beef and broccoli to go along with the pasta and cheese. My wife was quite satisfied with it. I went with the«A lot at steak» salad. I have to say the steak was some of the tastiest, more tender meat I’ve had. We want to go back so badly. If you’re looking for a place to eat at Magic Kingdom, Skipper Canteen is well worth the wait.

Decided to try Skipper Canteen with 7 of my friends after the fireworks. Their wait time was roughly 10 minutes and we were promptly texted when our table was ready. The food prices is what you expect of Disney prices and the complimentary bread with honey was tasty. As for the food itself, I had the curried vegetable stew($ 17) which was actually quite tasty. On the other hand, two of my friends steak salads were very bland and the skipper Mac and cheese tasted a little bit off…(like someone had put a rotten egg in it). In addition, our waitress was a little bit sassy as we pulled up another chair so that we could fit everyone at the same table instead of sending two people to a different booth. I’d take my business elsewhere if there were any.

This is a very impressive new restaurant – we were there on the day after its grand opening – that successfully pulls together a somewhat kitschy theme in a mature, elegant way. The food is a fantastic blend of the«four rivers» of the Jungle Cruise, and the servers(«skippers») use the same kind of punny humor as on the ride. The décor is meant to evoke the secret club where the explorers would meet as they planned their adventures. Everything is beautifully presented, elegant and fun. It’s a bit expensive, but I think it’s money well spent. All in all, the best dining experience we had at Disney. Check it out!

Great new Disney restaurant. Service is great. I didn’t get to finish my meal had to run. But the service staff was outstanding, that is the Disney way.

It was a bit slow, but maybe that was because we went the opening day. The shumai was great and the main courses were fantastic. The real sellers are the staff who were there. They were a bit too eccentric and happy for my taste, but I could tell that a lot of other customers and families were super entertained by them.

We went here for the soft opening– it was outstanding. The service is A+, just what you would expect for DIsney. The price was a little high, but the food was great. If you like the Jungle Cruise, you will love this place– with the same corny jokes! Can’t wait to go back!

Went here yesrerday with a friend and we really enjoyed this place. Surprised about basically being able to walk in, considering this was the grand opening, but we were excited to check it out! First of all(no surprise), the restaurant is gorgeous. The theming is perfect and relates well to the ride the place is based on. The skippers working as waitresses and waiters are hilarious — I didn’t realize they’d continue the theme of telling jokes throughout the meal, but our waitress did not disappoint! She took us on a «world tour» of our menu, jokes included, and pointed out her favorite features of the room to us(a la — allow me to point out some of my favorite plants). The food was not my favorite I’ve had in Magic Kingdom(hence four stars instead of five) but there’s no doubt that it was delicious. I got the pork and it was super tender and flavorful. Having been to China, the Chinese broccoli was perfectly cooked and exactly like they do it there — I really appreciate that!!! Because of a nut allergy I went for the kids Volcano dessert instead of an adult dessert and was not disappointed. It was moist and had a very large amount of caramel in it. Yum! The pop rocks on top added an extra fun element to an already tasty plate. Overall I’d totally come here again!

This place is beautiful. It is situated right after Aloha Isle(where you get the Dole Whips) in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom. We tried a bit of everything. I ordered the Char Siu Pork, which is marinated pork tenderloins on rice with Chinese Broccoli on the side. It was excellent. The flavor was a bit different, but I expected exotic flavors when eating here. The tenderloins were cooked perfectly. I cut them with a butter knife, they were so tender. The rice was a bit dry and I don’t care for broccoli, but my wife loved it. My wife wasn’t that hungry, so she ordered the Kid’s Meal Sizzling Savannah Grilled Flank Steak, which came with fingerling potatoes and steamed broccoli. My wife said it was excellent for being flank steak, almost as tender as a sirloin, and very flavorful. My boys both are the Kid’s Meal called Junior Skip’s Special Mac and Cheese. This is macaroni and cheese mixed with Béchamel sauce, ground beef, and house-made JBen Cheese Gratinee. One of my boys loved it and the other didn’t like it. The other boy traded it out for the chicken noodle soup and said it was good, but too salty. I tried it and it was a bit bland for me. I could taste nutmeg and cinnamon, I believe. The Béchamel was just too bland. We also had a couple desserts. We tried the Kid’s Volcano and the Kid’s Monkey Bites. The Volcano is a chocolate cake with a molten filling and a very cool, sculpted sugar«lava» shooting out of it. The boys loved it! The Monkey Bites are bits of Pistachio Sponge cake surrounded by Chocolate covered bananas with pieces of chocolate covered pumpkin seeds on it. It was delicious! Overall, is give it a 4⁄5. I may be able to give it a 5⁄5 after another meal, but they didn’t have the Souvenir Mugs available and they also don’t allow any type of substitutions, so if you don’t like broccoli, you’re up a creek without a paddle.
