I haven’t the faintest idea if this is the right location, but I’m writing this for the Oxygen Bar at the entrance to New York New York coming from the Excalibur walking bridge. I would never in my life have sat down at one of these things, but a friend in our little party had been dying to try this, and we had some time to waste, so we said, What the hell, why not? Now, as to the claims made by our host as to the restorative effects of air, I cannot decisively say. However, this was a fairly unique experience, and regardless of whether the O2 made a difference, I shockingly thought this was worth the $ 17 if for nothing more than the entertainment. Our host was very conversational. We ended up staying there about an hour, even though the air was only supposed to take about 10 minutes«to take effect». She provided us some back massages and head massages with one of those alien-looking devices. Very relaxing! She also introduced us to some essential oils, rubbing some mint oil on our necks, introducing a significant tingling sensation for the rest of the evening. Perhaps the strangest part of this experience was when she brought out these small devices with electrode pads attached. With some peer support, I actually allowed her to put these on my skin, and then watched as she proceeded to turn on the device and send electric pulses into my body. Yikes! I guess I don’t get out enough, because I had never heard of these things — TENS devices? Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Jesus — in retrospect I can’t believe I actually agreed to this, but certainly something I won’t forget anytime soon. So if you go with zero expectations, get the right host, and don’t anticipate finding some fountain of strength from the actual oxygen, you should find this to be a very interesting, low-cost entertainment experience. Give it a try! Why not?
