Island Auto Service

I recently had them replace the head on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport.
Bottom line, I was extremely impressed with the service. Kuba, the owner, sends almost daily updates over text, and is extremely professional (moreso than most dealerships I’ve worked with).
In my case, I was replacing the head as a preventative measure, since they have a known failure point. So, when Kuba and his tech did an initial inspection, he took the time to communicate with me and ensure that I still wanted to go ahead with the work because there were no symptoms of failure yet.
It was a small part of the entire interaction, but to me it spoke volumes about how Kuba and his team looks out for the customer’s best interest, ensuring that they don’t add unnecessary costs. Throughout the process, Kuba kept me informed, and was great at communicating various options. He did not incur any additional costs or charges without asking me first, and every time he asked if I wanted to replace an additional part, it made sense within the context of the overall job (i.e., replacing the spark plugs while the head was being swapped). At no point did I feel like he was trying to sneak extra charges or parts in.
I can’t recommend Kuba and his shop enough. I would be very willing to bring my vehicles back to him, and have full trust that they would be in great hands.

UPDATE: Ok so I finally got my car inspected. David was very patient and listened to all the concerns I had and proceeded to investigate my concerns one by one. I took the car on the road and he sat next to me to see for himself what my concerns were. Along the way, he also patiently answered any questions I had and taught me new things about my car.
Once we went back to his shop, he proceeded to lift my car and check the brakes and tires. Again he patiently answered any questions I had. Once finished, I asked him what the charge would be and he told me that the inspection was free! I was very surprised.
David strikes me as a patient guy who has a lot of integrity and will give you the facts straight up. You will definitely get a very reasonable rate from him (He didn’t charge me at all for the inspection). I will be taking my car to him if I have any problems.

Started the 07 TL for work this morning and noticed a horrible ‘moaning’ sound from the engine area especially when I turned my steering wheel right or left. Drove fine to work but it was still bothering me.
Checked out some Acura TSBs (technical service bulletins) and found this is a common issue for my year TL especially in cold weather (today was colder than usual and raining). Turns out it is an o-​ring in the steering pump assembly that when it shrinks in cold weather allows air to get into the power steering fluid reservoir allowing the air buildup to cause the moaning sound in the engine area.
Texted Kawika over at Island Auto Service that I may be brining in my TL for a quick look, that it may be related to the power steering. I get a text a little later from him to bring it on down to the shop.
Found the correct Acura TSB and found what parts I needed. Called my local Acura dealership to inquire if the o-​ring and some extra Acura power steering fluid was in stock. Sure enough it was! But I was unnecessarily hassled by the parts guy at Acura. He inquired what I would need the parts for and I told him about the well-​known TSB. He said that may not fix the issue and since the car is 8 years old, I should get the ENTIRE power steering pump assembly changed out, which would include new o-​rings. Out of curiosity I asked how much that service is… I get quoted over $ 750 NOT including labor! HA! Yeah no thanks guy.
Drive down to Las Vegas Acura and purchase my o-​rings needed and a bottle of Acura power steering fluid. Hop back in my TL and visit Kawika at Island Auto Service right down the street mere blocks away. Show Kawika the Acura TSB, show him I have the o-​ring and a bottle of Acura power steering fluid, show him the online video on how to replace the o-ring…and he’s off! Took him less than 15 minutes to change out that bothersome o-​ring, top off my power steering fluid, and get me back on the road all within my lunch hour. Guess what? NO MORE moaning from my power steering!
Cost? $ 7 and change for the parts! I take all my cars to Kawika & crew at Island Auto Service and he hooked me up this time with service non gratis. He ended up only having to take out one bolt to replace the o-​ring on the power steering hose before putting it back together. Now that’s what I call service!

«Honest» is the word that really describes this place. I found them through Unilocal as offering A/​C service. After doing a complete A/​C system diagnosis for FREE, the mechanic said the system was fine and that the issue had to do with the «blend door» or panel switch either of which requires a different shop. I really like this place and will come back for other services.

I needed Ac serviced, and was out of town, so I went with Unilocal highly recommended island, I was not disappointed.
They quote me for recharge, and about an hour.
They got me right in.
However upon inspection they recommended it not be recharged due to the compressor failing. They just charged me a lower rate for just the inspection.
Got me out in the time quote :-)
I was impressed. Honest fair pricing :-)

Time for an oil change. Gotta do some errands, so, good time for me to stop by.

I’m glad I found Kawika on Unilocal and gave it a try. Been here ever since for all my car needs! I’m from Hawaii and my Dad has always been into the auto service industry so I had no worries. Moved here to Vegas and glad I found my go to place here! It’s hard to come by an honest and ethical mechanic but I found one in Kawika! I refer all my family and friend here and those that did come thank me for it!

Needed to have my 06 Toyota Tacoma that I just purchased (used) checked out. Wanted a shop that I could trust and not give me any BS just so that they can make some money. Kawika has always been straight up (tells you exactly what NEEDS fixing and what can be held off) and reasonable. Now I’m just crossing my fingers that I didn’t purchase a lemon.

These guys haven’t lost their human touch.
We are retired, it’s August in Las Vegas and our AC went out. We didn’t really know what to do so we took the car to a nationally-​known chain where we get our maintenance done. After $ 500+ in charges, they told us, «We don’t do compressors.»
Slow burn.
I went looking online and found the reviews on Unilocal for Island Auto Services.
Guys, if you go anywhere else, you’re crazy.
The quote was real and reasonable, and the repairs were done in one day. They took us home and picked us up when it was time to get our car back. I’m in love.
If you want to support local business instead of the giant «who gives a s – t» companies, please, please go to Island Auto Service. You won’t regret it for a minute.

Great environment and Great personality. Island Autos offers real honest service at a great low cost. Would highly recommend to anybody that wants any problem in there car checked out, and will definitely be back for any car troubles in the future.
Also took away my engine light! Which no other mechanic has been able to due. 5 stars for life

This auto shop is one of a kind. Kawika (Ka-​vee-​ka) is a car professor and will not have a problem explaining your vehicle’s dilemma to you and if you say, huh, he’ll figure out some other way to explain it. Really, this car shop is number 1!!!

Passing through town and my A/​C went out. Went to a couple of highly rated repair shops and they said they were too busy. I called Island Auto Services and he said they were busy but would see what they could do. They were able to fit me in and the price was very reasonable. It was actually half the price that another highly rated auto shop called and quoted me after I had decided to go with Island. I was glad that I did.

So, about a month ago, I was getting ready to drive with my 3 year old son to Chicago, and was told by a few different mechanics at Sun Auto (on Buffalo in the KMart parking lot-​dont trust those guys) that before I could safely go-​I needed upwards of 1700 worth of repairs on my car :/​
I decided to come in after reading the reviews here for a second opinion-​and I am so glad I did. The owner (Im so irritated I cannot remember the guys name but do remember he was the owner) checked my car out, added some oil, looked over everything I told him about, referred me to a place to get my tires checked, and sent me on my way. I was ecstatic. Didnt charge me a dime. What a wonderful guy. I couldnt recommend him more. Saved me so much money. Thank you!!!

Came in because my battery went out. Price was a bit higher than I thought but khan rushed to get me in and out in twenty minutes so the price was worth it.
Would come again if I have future car trouble.
They have water and coke for customers.

This place honest, met Kawika, real cool guy. Brought in my Mitsubishi Evo 9 in today to do work. He was honest about the price, and how much it would cost, he gave me the lowest price he could go, but I couldn’t afford, can’t put price on great quality and I believe they do quality work. Great place and no pressure to do the work. It’s rare to find honest auto shops like this. Five stars all the way.

Full synthetic oil change for $ 35.40?!
That’s unheard of in Hawaii. That’s for sure.
I’ll admit one thing, when I came to this location, I backtracked &’ went to Purrfect &’ thank goodness I went in &’ walked out!
$ 50.00 for an oil change? Nah! I’ll pass! Thank you sooooooooo much for opening this shop !

This place is awesome! I brought my car here for a check engine light and Kawika went over the diagnostics with me and suggested the cheapest things we could try first, like replacing the gas cap. He reset the check engine light and did the diagnostics at no charge, took about 30 min. I replaced the gas cap and the light hasn’t been back since. But I know where I will take my cars for any kind of issues in the future. Total honest place to take your vehicle. I took my car somewhere else before I came here and they quoted me over a $ 1000 and didn’t even explain anything and charged a $ 100 for the diagnostic and didn’t even clear the engine light. If you want and honest mechanic, come here! Make an appointment. Thanks again Kawika!

Honest, affordable, knowledgeable, friendly, and trustworthy.
When you find a mechanic and an auto shop that is all of the above, you have found an extremely rare gem! Kuba and his crew will make sure that all of your auto needs are well taken care of and that you will leave very satisfied without depleting your savings account.
If you were my grandma, I wouldn’t recommend any other auto mechanic. Island Auto is the simply the BEST!

Saw a Groupon for oil change this morning and remembered my car needed one. Checked Unilocal to see if there was anybody honest out there and found Island Auto Service and the great thing there’s also a Groupon for oil changes with them for 39.99 (3 oil changes)…great deal. Came here and they started right away since it’s not very busy here yet. Getting Synthetic oil for da kar and will just pay the difference. Very professional with nobody trying to up-sale…what a relief. I will bring my car back for other services in the future for sure. Like all previous reviews, I’ve found my go to auto shop.

I haven’t been here yet but gotta give a great review just for the customer service and honesty so far. Yes, honesty from a mechanic, I’m still as surprised as you probably are.
I called to inquire about an appointment and pricing after seeing them on Groupon/​yelp at about 4:50 PM yesterday/​Monday. The person who answered said the owner is gone for the day but would contact me first thing in the AM.
Received a detailed text in the AM about pricing from the owner. However, beyond that – and here is the honesty part that threw me and prompted me to write a review – when I told him it would be my first oil change on a new car, he suggested checking if my dealer offered free oil changes as they typically do for your first one or few and he wouldn’t want me to miss out on that!
I reached out to my dealer and found out they do offer the first 3 free so I won’t get to use his services this time but you can bet I’ll come here after those 3 free ones run out!
So anyway, this review is a kudos to honest businesses like this and business owners like Kuba. We need more people and businesses like this.
