This doctor was my OB for my first child. I didn’t know anything about being pregnant and honestly didn’t learn much from her. If we didn’t have the internet I wouldn’t have known what to expect. She does not have a good bedside manner and even made me feel like I was bothering her at times. On my first visit she came in with her arms crossed and said something like, so you’re pregnant. No congrats or a smile or anything remotely comforting. She gets through most appointments as quickly as possible and says ok see you in 4 weeks and jolts. If you have questions you better blurt them out before she leaves and hope that she’ll be in a good enough mood to answer them. If you have questions outside of your allotted appointment times, you might as well look them up because she will not call you back. Sometimes she was in a good mood, but mostly it seemed like her patients are an annoyance. I even cried to my spouse and parents because I didn’t want her to be the first person to hold my baby. Luckily, Dr. Sauter delivered my son. He was great in the delivery room as well as with follow-up the next couple days. A year later, I had a miscarriage. I went into get blood work to confirm everything was out. It was only 6.5 weeks so the miscarriage wasn’t too hard on my physically. A few months after that, I was pregnant again. I had an appointment with Dr. Ruiz-Leon’s nurse practitioner. She was much more thorough and actually told me what to expect, which I wish I would have had the first time around. I told her my concerns that the baby measured small, but she said just to talk to the doctor about it when I go back in 4 weeks. She asked about the miscarriage and I told her I had my blood work done there so she should have seen that on my chart. Apparently they don’t document your chart unless you see the doctor. Approximately 3 weeks later I had a miscarriage. My baby had not been growing properly and it is unknown why we lost the baby at 11 weeks 6 days. I went to the ER because it was a weekend. The ER doc removed the baby, suctioned me out and said follow-up with your OB on Monday. I called Monday morning at 8:06 in such excruciating pain and bleeding more than after I delivered my son. I asked the nurse to see the doctor ASAP and that I was in pain. All the nurse said was ok I’ll talk to the doctor and call you back. I called back that afternoon after no response and was told they were busy. At 5:30 that night she called back finally. I was in tears as she told me the doctor didn’t need to see me. I asked about the pain? She responded that she had forgot to talk to the doctor so she would do it tomorrow. Tuesday wasn’t any better for me and at about 6:45 that night the nurse called to say that the doctor decided I didn’t need any pain medication, just to take ibuprofen. I couldn’t believe it. I finally made an appointment with a family Doctor because I needed help and they weren’t helping. That doctor couldn’t believe that they refused to see me and that they refused to give me medications. On Wednesday, someone from Dr. Ruiz-Leon’s office called to ask me a question about the hospital. She asked when my appointment was with the doctor and I proceeded to tell her everything that had occurred and that the doctor didn’t think I needed to be seen. She couldn’t believe it and said she was so sorry and that she would talk to her office manager. Amazingly, that night the doctor called me and left a message and apologized and said there must have been some sort of miscommunication. I never called them back and they never called me again. The only miscommunication in my book is that she got caught by someone else and was told to deal with it. DONOTGOTOTHISDOCTOR! SHEDOESNOTCAREABOUTYOU! SHEWILLNOTMAKEYOUFEELGOODABOUTYOURPREGNANCY. Dr. Sauter seems great but if there’s a chance Dr. Ruiz-Leon will delivery your baby, I would stay away.

This doctor is pretty efficient. Unfortunately, her front office staff is sucky. They literally Lost 2⁄3 phone messages that I had verbally communicated to them. Had I not called back after 1 week, I never would’ve gotten an answer. As a medical assistant myself, I know the way a patient should be treated and they don’t even come close to the lowest of standards. It seems to me they’ve been working too long and have forgotten that They are not the one that matters. Patients should be #1.

I came to her when I was in the process of moving so she co-managed my pregnancy until I was here full time at 7.5 months. One of the only docs in the area that would do that I might add. She was wonderful. I personally love her laid back style but you can really tell she loves what she does. I felt cared for and knew I was in good hands. Dr. Leon prepared me well for delivery and was a great cheerleader during it. I now go to her as my GYN and plan to go to her with baby number 2!
