I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this little gem. I have been coming here for the past several weeks after driving by the advertising trailer at the corner of Lone Mountain on my way home and I am sure glad I found it. Everyone here is soo nice and helpful. I love the fact that produce is pesticide and chemical free and I also love that the farm stand has fresh picked produce from that morning so that if you’re in a rush you don’t have to worry about walking thru acres of land to pick stuff from the vine. The tomatoes are amazing. I can’t get enough of them. The watermelon and pumpkin are great, too. Where else in Vegas can you get a pumpkin in early August? They have a greenhouse with a large variety of herbs — various mints, basil, etc. They have radishes, kale, etc. The fact that I live down the road is even better for me. They are open Fri and Sat 8 to 3 but I believe they deliver on Sunday and Monday.

Just look for the Homegrown Nursery & Produce sign that leads you to a new source of desert-grown fruits, veggies, and herbs! This little farm has a lot of character, including a tractor tire full of artichokes, and toilet bowl planter of squash, and a bath tub sprouting colorful flowers. Open since November 2011, the farm is in its early stages but already growing an impressive assortment of plants. A lot of the produce is gathered and offered from a farm stand at the front of the property for $ 2 per pound. When I visited on an uncharacteristically shady and cool recent July afternoon, large Tuscan melons cost $ 3 each, and watermelons were $ 6. The friendly owner invites everyone to enter the greenhouse and explore the fields, where you may also pick anything that is ready. The greenhouse is stocked with many varieties of fresh herbs: opal basil, cinnamon basil, orange basil, lemon basil, basil basil, oregano, mint for mojitos, chocolate mint, chives, etc., as well as scissors to snip fresh lettuces, greens, and rainbow chard. I also saw tomatoes, radishes, beets, a few citrus trees, and even a strawberry or two. Behind the greenhouse, the fields are planted with melons, zucchini, peppers, corn, pumpkins, and more. Potted plants and seedlings are also for sale. This is a much smaller operation than Gilcrease: it is not an orchard, so there are not rows and rows of apple and apricot trees to walk past just to reach the vegetables and pumpkin patch. The produce is easily accessible and the crowds aren’t here, at least for the time being! Check out the webpage at which has a link to their Facebook for more information on what’s growing. The nursery is currently open to the public on Friday and Saturday from 8am-3pm, and they even offer a home delivery service on Sunday and Monday. They do not sell at any farmers markets yet. This northwest location is not hard to find: from Lone Mountain, look for the Homegrown Nursery & Produce trailer at Conough and head north. Turn right at the next sign on La Madre(dirt road!) and park inside the farm’s front gate.
