Thanks Nelson for putting together another great event! I of course am behind the scenes with Nelson Q when he brainstorms these ideas and know a lot of thought goes into executing these events. The Rollin Smoke Team have been nothing but a blast to work with and I love their enthusiasm in pulling all the stops to make this event seem so effortless.
The platter was truly huge (see event pics) with a tall outlaw burger, 1lb of waffle fries, and a banana pudding, and once the call was given all 13 competitors ransacked through their food with their own crafty strategy. Some squashed the burger down to make it look shorter (hardly possible) others drank with every bite but some just looked like they were in true pain half way through. The winner of the challenge really shocked us all by squirting a mouthful of Rollin Smoke Sauce to mark the end of a crazy hard challenge.
We pretty much got to meet the whole Rollin Smokes family that night which made this event that much more special. I can now truly understand why there is so much love in their food. I myself am in love with their «Smoked Meatloaf» served with mash potatoes and topped with crispy onion strings and yes, barbeque sauce. Their corn nuggets are one of my favorite sides and their beef ribs are some of the best I have ever tried.
At the end not only did we get to enjoy such amusing competitive eating and savor some amazing flavors but we got to share this with some great people!

First of all, Nelson and Sylvia are always super welcoming and sweet! They truly are the king and queen of Unilocal Las Vegas and deserve props for all the events and effort they contribute to this community.
I’m so happy I talked my friend Paul into competing in this competition. For $ 10 it really was a win-​win whether he won or not! He, unfortunately didn’t win, which I’m sure you guys have read from Nelson’s play by play review. I think he held his own, though, by eating the whole burger plus most of the fries. It wasn’t an easy feat and he sure was hurting after consuming all that food! Twas all in good fun though, and fun is what this competition was all about!
There are so many people that I haven’t met within the Unilocal community. I enjoyed meeting and hanging out with William, Anthony, and Regina, and one other gentleman who’s name escapes me! Everyone was really friendly :)
Last but not least, the owners of Rollin Smoke deserve some props! They were prepared for the mini onslaught of Unilocalers and served up 11 big ass burgers with ease! They had an announcer (one of their employees) who was funny and entertaining during the competition. I had a fantastic time and I’m looking forward to sampling more of the good eats these guys are serving up!

Don’t you just love it when things come together at the LAST MINUTE??? For the longest time up until the day before the competition, we were stuck with only 3 – 4 competitors, so John made a last minute decision to drop the entry fee from $ 20 to $ 10 which was a crazy deal with a catch… you only got 15 minutes to kill one of the biggest, baddest burgers around, The Outlaw, half a pound of waffle cut fries doused in hot sauce, and a banana pudding. Impossible? Definitely possible!
It was more than just a competiton, it was a family affair as well, as I got to meet Dusty’s wife, and kids, Chef Tim’s family, and even John and Dusty’s Mom, Cat where the inspiration for a lot of Rollin’ Smoke’s KILLER items comes from! She’s even one of my fans on Unilocal!(Awww! Thanks Mom!!!)
8:45pm, and I see a couple of competitors. Frankie waiting patiently out front, Jay (couldn’t be older than 18 years old???) with Mom, sister, and friend Bryan also competing, spectators Will (already in AYCE BBQ attack mode) and Mike from Snow Flakes Shavery, along with some of their co-​workers, Shawn H. Kevin L., Unilocal OGs Anthony M., Jen S., Earl C., Regina P., Tony T., and Christopher S., and wifey Sylvia Q. but still no sign of Niyen I. and LJ… Seeing Niyen’s earlier check-​ins, he was out of commission and LJ’s earlier check-​in at the liquor store probably caused him not to show. Alida D. managed to convince her friend Paul to compete, and in a matter of minutes, the number of competitors doubles, as Josh and Martin arrive, and Unilocalers Shawn, Earl, Tony, Chris, and Kevin all take a seat at the competitor’s table. Even Lamar, one of the cooks wants in. 12 people in all, names were taken and fees were collected by John’s wife Mayra, and it was ON! Family and workers delivered the HUMANGOUS platters to those waiting to kill it. With a brief explanation of the rules and introduction of each competitor, emcee/​commentator Chef Tim got the whole room fired up chanting with Rollin’ Smoke BBQ’s motto…“IT’S DAM GOOD!!!” Aaaand they were off.
It was anybody’s game at this point, and just a few minutes in, Lamar’s Outlaw Burger disappeared! Chef Tim’s play-​by-​play action saw Jay going with «The Carousel Technique», Paul, Bryan, Earl, Christopher, and Shawn, all taking big honkin’ bites, Tony glued to the TV, Frankie putting a dent in his platter, and Kevin with no sense of urgency, enjoying the cool $ 10 combo he’d just purchased… Lamar hit a brick wall and didn’t touch dessert, but in the two corners, Jay and Josh pulled away from the competition and went toe-​to-​toe in the dessert round, until a skewer of peppers and a slice of tomato and some fries separated first and second place. Josh Killed his skewer and had a BBQ sauce chaser with a finishing time of 11 minutes and 7 seconds. Time expired and by looking at Jay’s and Martin’s platters, Chef Tim’s kids declared Jay second (He did mom proud!) and Martin third place.
All this competiton made me hungry, and I was feelin’ like a buncha bonez this time, so I got a rib platter to celebrate another successful UYE. I also got a sneak peek at future menu items-​Brisket Fries, and Chicken and Waffles-​YUM!
It was another great evening with a great turnout, finger lickin’ food, and best of all, a bunch of awesome people.
