UYE-Steppin’ Out: Finger Lickin’ Feast and Rib Throwdown!!!

Bomb Dot Com BBQ Ribs. $ 20 entry fee. 12 minutes to eat as much as you are physically and mentally able. Crowds of cheering and singing onlookers. Samples for the onlookers. Amateur ribs eating contest just doesn’t get any better than this, especially when you have a hot Eastern European model (Dana S) throwing down the ribs with the boys.
Winner gets a $ 100 certificate to Rollin’ Smokes (Kevin from the JP Finishing Team). Top three finishers gets complimentary T-​shirts. But everyone definitely had a blast, regardless of where you rank at the end of the competition.
I am glad Nelson Q and Rollin’ Smoke put together this fun event. And stay tune for more ribs eating contest in the future.

Can Nelson plan a UYE or what?!
All five stars go to Nelson, and except for maybe 1% of 1 star which goes to Dana for being the only chick to throw down. A wise woman once said, «Hot bitches from Eastern Europe eat ribs» and a more accurate description there never was. (I was not this wise woman, though boy howdy do I wish I could claim that quote for posterity.)
Anyhow, all the participants were winners in their own right because they got to eat 2+ lbs. of ribs that, if I do say so myself, were out-​of-​this-​world good. I can’t wait to go back here and wear barbecue makeup for the rest of the day, slathering it all over my face like moisturizer. Don’t question my methods, okay?
Thanks to Nelson, Rollin’ Smoke, the sweet musical quartet, Christie L’s father-​in-​law who had to endure a challenge more difficult than eating 2 lbs. of ribs in 12 minutes, Sylvia, the lovely and beautiful timekeeper in the corner, and once again Nelson for a fun, impromptu night I won’t soon forget.

RSB actually lives up to the name «hidden gem». This isn’t a place I would have ever even guessed was here nor do I regularly drive in this area since I’m not a stripper, mechanic or tattoo artist. The fact that Nelson got us together for this did do its job in allowing us to try it out and see that it is worth coming back to!
The smell in the parking lot from the smokers alone was heaven. Their name lives up to itself because if you want them at your house or event they will roll right up and smoke some meat for you! I had my hubby and father in law with me and as we entered I noticed Roger T and his wifey who were quick to offer hugs and a warm welcome. RSB has an upbeat vibe that makes you feel good about being there. It was nice to meet with other Unilocalers and hang out.
There was a rib eating contest and that was fun to cheer on. All competitors started out with 2 pounds of ribs! They had their plastic apron and gloves and dug in! I was rooting for girl power since Dana S was brave enough to compete! The title went to Kevin L, Congrats! Chef Tom passed around a sample to taste while the competition was under way. I’m not a fan of eating things off a bone (weird phobia I know) let alone certain meats. The cool thing about Unilocal is it has opened me up to try new things that I would have never tried before. Earlier this year I bit into a burger at Gordon Ramsay P&G which I hadn’t done in over 12 years. At RSB I actually ate ribs off the bone! Now don’t go thinking I will be ordering ribs from now on because that isn’t going to happen but I did open up and try a few bites and really did like it. The smokiness in the meat was just amazing. With your first check in on Unilocal you can get a free dessert! I tried the «Banana Pudding» and it really hit the spot :)
After the contest is was time to try something from the menu and mingle with Unilocalers. I ordered the «Beef Brisket Sandwich». I now have a new #1 favorite brisket sandwich! OMG it is soooo good!!! If you are a brisket lover you must give it a try. The brisket is smoked for 18 hours! The sandwich cost $ 7 and you can make it a combo for $ 2 more which gets you a side and a drink. Additional sides are $ 2. I tried the «Kickin’ Baked Beans» and «Mac & Cheezy». The beans were so good! So much flavor with a nice bite. I didn’t actually care too much for the mac & cheese. Hubby had the «Hot Link» and loved it! He just wished he had ordered 2 of them. My FIL had «The Duo» so he got to pick 2 meats a side and a drink for $ 10. He chose the brisket and ½ hot link. We all loved our food and agreed the beans were the side of choice for each visit.
So I will get to the awkward moment of the evening. After hubby and I finished ordering food we walked back into the room where us Unilocalers had been hanging to see my FIL getting a lap dance from a total random drunk stranger! WTH!!! It was very awkward as I approached the table and sat down and she didn’t stop. She fingered what is left of his hair and dry humped his leg. Molly T must have noticed my face of shock because she quickly hurried over to assure me this embarrassing person was NOT with us (not on Unilocal). She was however with a fellow Unilocaler so it is disappointing that Unilocaler would allow her to be there so drunk and obnoxious. Molly was reassuring though that this isn’t how a UYE goes and didn’t want me discouraged from attending another. Hubby was nudging the girl telling her «enough» and when I saw her reach for his crotch I had enough. I went to get someone from RSB to escort her outside but I was too late because fellow Unilocalers already were on it. I have to give a big THANKS to my fellow Unilocalers for coming together and helping out as well the RSB staff!
*phew* OK… lol. so you need to try this place if you *heart* BBQ because «it’s dam good» They have $ 5 lunch specials everyday!

WOW! another great evening, and one more in the books for the «Steppin’ Out» series! Hosted by Chef Tim, Dusty, Myra, and myself, Rollin’ Smoke BBQ played host to the Inaugural Rib Throwdown with a crowd of 30 people in attendance.
Originally scheduled to be five competitors (Three Unilocalers and two Rollin’ Smoke Cooks) Pitmaster John and the cooks were away doing a catering gig that involved a 60-​pound whole hog! Thanks to a few drop-​in competitors, co-​worker Kevin L. and Unilocalers Michael K. and the lone woman Dana S., 6 competitors were ready to get it on!
Rules were simple-​Clean the most ribs in 12 minutes… after being situated with beer or water, competitors were given a 2-​pound plate of thick cut St. Louis style slab ribs. Chef Tim was also generous enough to treat all spectators to taste the love as well. How sweet is that??? and the competiton didn’t even start yet! As the timer went off, competitors went into attack mode, pacing themselves and keeping their eyes on the prize-​$ 100 RSB Gift Certificate for the top finisher, and shirts for the top 3 finishers. The crowd was hyped up and chanting the competitors on in Joan Jett fashion (See Roger «Talk Thread» T. s review)
At the end of the timer, the damage was done and it was clear that the rib king was Kevin L., coming in a close second was Michael K., rounding out the top 3 was Nerdy Dancing 1 finalist Niyen I. Tony T. and Dana «Dark Horse» S. were tied for fourth and Melvin M. put on a great performance for fifth place.
Afterwards, people hung out to try some of RSB’s other tasty selections, and a few competitors still had room for dessert! I decided to share a St. Louis Rib Plate with Waffle cut fries and a Banana Pudding with wifey, and our selections were delicious as always, and plentiful too! I don’t put away food like I used to and ended up taking a doggie bag home after 4 ribs!
Great big MAHALO to all the competitors and spectators and also to the Team at Rollin’ Smoke Barbecue-​Chef Tim, Dusty, Myra, and John for making this yet again another memorable evening! With the weather warming up, there will be live entertainment on the weekends soon and who knows? maybe a Blue Bell Ice Cream Battle? BBQ Sundae Challenge? Rib Throwdown #2? Fastest Outlaw Killer? Unilocal 100 CHALLENGE 2013−(46÷100) «The Bone Collectors»

This was such an exhilarating and fun experience! Thank you Nelson for hosting yet another great event! It is Unilocalers such as yourself that keep our Vegas Unilocal community as tight knit and fun as it is!
I entered the contest spur of the moment. No preparation went into my strategy (unless you count eating several tapas and drinking half of a pitcher of Sparkling at Firefly an hour before the event). Nelson and Tony convinced me to compete and represent for the ladies of Unilocal.So, I obliged.
Everyone was super friendly and there was a great, laid back vibe throughout the restaurant. The staff and the chef were super nice and really went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed before the contest commenced. Once the timer went off, all became a haze. People were chanting, singing, cheering, hooting, and hollering. It was invigorating and fun! The 12 minutes zoomed by… and the contest was really not too difficult. It helps that the ribs were DELICIOUS. I was awarded a cute little purple shirt and got to mingle with some Unilocalers before we called it a night.

CARNIVORES UNITE!
Whether you were a contestant or just an audience member, everybody had fun!
You had 6 contestants total. The winners from 3^rd to 1^st place was Niyen I, Michael K, and the rib master Kevin L! Congrats to all participants especially Dana S! Yes, we had a woman compete and she was not too shabby! Dana definitely held her own!
The rules were to eat the most St Louis Style Ribs in 12 minutes! Each contestant was given 2 pounds of ribs to start, if they finished, they received more! Everybody was given latex gloves and bibs.
The turnout was great! The room we were in was the perfect size. It was awesome how the peeps were cheering the contestants on! They had a war chant and everything! It was to the tune of Joan Jett’s song «I love rock n roll». It went a little something like this, «I love Rollin Smoke! Put another rib on my plate now baby!»
Props goes out to Nelson Q for setting up this fun event! Major props goes out to the nice folks at Rollin Smoke Barbeque for letting us crash their place! The ribs were awesome! THANKS NELSON Q AND ROLLIN SMOKE BARBEQUE!
