Tonic Lounge

Now as a college graduate I don’t frequent the establishment really, but this used to be my favorite place to go to while I was in undergrad at KU. Yes, you’ll hear a lot of people say they get dry-​humped, the floor is really dirty, random guys lines up by the wall and stare at you while dancing but that’s any college bar. It’s a night club afterall.
Their drinks are fine, nothing special or out of the ordinary. The atmosphere is fine too, they play mainstream music. Overall it is a college bar; you’ll see a lot of fraternities and sororities but that’s what keeps the bar full of dancing people.

Not Tonic like in Charlotte. No way. Not in a million years. But decent college bar on main strip. $ 5 doubles? Yes please. Hot Coeds? Yes please.

Tonic is a fine place…
If you want to get dry-​humped on a dirty dance floor with a crowd of men standing around salivating.
It’s a night club, people. Of course it’s kind of dirty and full of dogs. What else do you expect?
Their drinks are fine, the normal run-​of-​the-​mill bar stuff. The atmosphere, other than the dance floor, is fine, actually. They have cute little nooks around and you really very rarely find couples doing the deed in them. There are a few bars you can go up to, so the lines are not horrible.
Honestly, it’s the dance floor I have the problem with; it’s where women are targeted and guys just wait on the side lines for them to stray away from the herd, then they pounce, and it’s quite hard to get away from them after that.
One time, I brought a group of girl friends here and thought it would be hilarious to take them to the dance floor (since I knew what would happen) but it definitely blew up in my face, instead of them being the targets, I was the one who was immediately danced on. C’est la vie.
In summation: If you are looking for a normal dance bar where you can get dressed up to the nines and go to, this is your spot. I don’t mind going and I do return occasionally. All of my normal bar standards are met here.

One of the best clubs in Lawrence, I went there with a few friends and had the time of my life, great DJ and great customer service. I see people complaining about the sorority girls and frat guys but if they weren’t there how would they have business and be open. It’s something that you have to look out for and expect in every busy bar.
Tonic is something Lawrence needs because its Classy and not to gangster like other clubs out there.
Best part about this place is the Hookah house upstairs after the club closes down.

First off drinks are more expensive for Lawrence area and rarely have good specials. Crowd is typical club scene or the best imitation for a small town. If you can envision Jersey Shore meets Lawrence, KS then you can create a pretty decent expectation of what you will experience. Not bad, not great, but worth stopping by. :)

I hate to give this a one-​star, because my friend is the DJ there. DJ Mo does a great job… though I’m not really into the top 40 crap.
One big place I diverge with Chastity’s review is that I NEVER stand in line in Lawrence freaking Kansas to get into a bar. If I’m in a line, I better be on my way to see GD Beyonce.
My rule — if you have to stand in line or go through a metal detector to get into a club in LAWRENCE, it’s probably not a place I want to be.
I did abandon my rule once because my aforementioned DJ friend put me on «the list» (cue impressed gasps), so I decided to check it out. After passing the metal detector, I pushed through the crowd of kids to the bar. It took me 30 minutes to get one drink, and at one point the guy behind me decided to grope my ass. Pleasant.
Once I had my drink I proceeded to the raised platform by the DJ, and spent the rest of the time watching drunk sorority girls dancing on a small table, flashing their cooters a la Paris Hilton while drunk frat guys desperately humped their legs.
Maybe I just expect more from a night out. This place just feels… vapid.

This has got to be the best club in Lawrence! It’s not very big but the line is always long and to me that means it’s a happening place! I enjoyed the music they played, it was a mix mostly top 40, that’s my fav! The drinks were reasonable as well as the cover charge! I will go back to party here when I’m in Lawrence!
