The Soapmaking Studio offers a full line of soapmaking supplies and soapmaking classes for new soapmakers and for professional soapmakers, including classes in cold process, hot process, liquid soapmaking, advanced coloring techniques, and soapmaking chemistry. Business classes are available in soap labeling laws, packaging, marketing, and worldwide shipping. Business Owner

Instructor Kerri Mixon is a 16th generation soapmaker and is the master soapmaker and owner of Pallas Athene Soap, a successful soap company that has been in business since 2000. A former artisan perfumer, Kerri is certified as an «Advanced Cold-​Process/​Hot-​Process Soapmaker» and has completed specialized training in Herbology and Aromatherapy. After teaching at a California college for five years, she currently teaches at the Soapmaking Studio in San Diego County.

The beginner’s soapmaking class is quite informative. Kerri presents detailed safety data. Then she proceeds to explain everything to start the students to making soap, including how to create a soap recipe. She dispels myths, too. In addition, her studio is a great source to acquire items necessary in soap making.
Finally, Kerri’s enthusiasm and passion for soaping makes the class very interesting and a pleasure. In fact, her passion is contagious. At the end of the class, I was very eager to start making soap.

My husband and I just took the Soapmaking 101 class with Kerri at The Soapmaking Studio yesterday. I just wanted to say that even after viewing many of the You Tube videos out there on soap making that the class that Kerri teaches is by far the most informative, most accurate, safe and fun class there is on Soapmaking. My husband and I went to this class and we both enjoyed it very much. Kerri is very knowledgeable and enjoyable to listen to. If you have a question about soap she has an answer. We will definitely be signing up for more classes in the future !

Today I took the Beginning Cold Process Soapmaking 101 class. I’m so glad I did! If I had relied on the information I gathered from the internet and U tube videos I would have been in BIG TROUBLE!
Our teacher, Kerri, was very knowledgeable and easy to follow. Her long experience making soap was obvious. Your given a textbook/​workbook to take home with specific instructions; I can’t wait to try my first batch.
While the home classroom was a little crowded I could see and hear everything. It was worth every penny and I’m signing up for additional classes.

Truly a spectacular class, Soap making 101! By no means am I an experienced hobbyist, but I did think I knew a fair amount prior to taking this class. After a failed batch, I signed up for this class in order to figure where it all went wrong. I didn’t even have to ask, because Kerri covered it! From A-​Z I learned so much more than I thought I had researched the past 6 months. She also dispels a lot of misconceptions that are prevalent online. This class has boosted my confidence and it’s as if I’ve fallen in love with this hobby all over again!

My wife and I decided to make soap for christmas presents this year. We didn’t want to melt someone else’s soap and then put in a fragrance. We wanted to start from scratch. We decided to take a class in order to do it right. This was definately the way to do it. It was very useful and they can provide materials (85% of which are less expensive than amazon). They are pretty straight and narrow when it comes to the rules though. If you bought a ticket on amazon, make sure you are there and don’t give it away. They had to turn someone away in our class. I don’t know how I feel about that but I really can’t blame them for adhering to a contract.

This is soap making paradise;as good as it gets! Lots of fun and expert instruction. I went there to start a hobby to keep my old brain active and was very stimulated. Everything you need is right there and you get to go home with a nice useful product; a fine smelling bar of soap!

I have taken many of Kerry’s classes and she is completely informed about soap. She IS the soap making community in San Diego. If you want to make soap on any level, just for yourself, starting a business, the farmers market circuit, to grow a business to be bought out, she is the person to see.
by the way, the soap makers luncheon she hosts once a month is great.

The instructor is very knowledgeable but not willing to answer questions. She will encourage you to sign up for another class to get the answer. The price of the classes is a little deceiving. The website charges sales tax on the class and there is a materials fee. I was a little disappointed to pay for a materials fee and go home empty-​handed. We made soap but didn’t get to take any. The owners are friendly and have alot of soap making equipment for sale.

Kerri is an incredible instructor. She presents in a very concise, thorough manner and makes even the chemistry part of soap making easy to understand. Her classes are packed full of information, demonstrations and hands on learning. It is definitely a fun experience to make a batch of soap from beginning to end and play with scents and swirl colors to create a beautiful soap. She also has array full of supplies. I was interested making my own soap, Why I asked myself? I traveled a ton for about 5 years straight and I always found myself attracted to scents that made me think of home and favorite places I’ve visited. so I thought «hey maybe I can make soap and take with me wherever I go travel? make more when I return with more Ideas and memories?!»
I did my research and stumbled on the Soapmaking studio, a what do you know, it was in my own hometown.
Ive visited other shops and asked questions, and quickly got the «do you want to join the class or not?» vibe.
I started to slowly do my research and purchase my tools and ingredients from the Soapmaking studio. I came to pick up the supplies and immediately had a warm feeling bout the place.
I decided to take Soapmaking 101 and 220 before I even attempted to start on my own. It was the best decision. I was one of the 2 guys there, but Kerri made us feel right at home. I couldn’t believe there was customers in class all the way from the east coast?!
Kerri and David are great. the Soapmaking studio offers ever supply you will need to get started and even teach you to get off your feet.
remember to be patient, this craft takes time but well worth it!

Excellent. I have been making soap for about a year now. I went from curious about soap to making & formulating & designing my own soaps. I make them for myself, family & friends. If you want to learn how to make soaps safely & the correct way Kerri is your very best option. The last class one women had flown out from NY for the class. Yes Kerri is that good. We are so lucky to have her in San Diego.
The classes are informative, backed up with printed material to aid you once you’ve left & available to answer questions on the phone when you run across something you need help with. From crafter, soap maker to soap business. She has classes to cover it all. Kerri & wonderful husband David also have tons of supplies. Molds, colorants, fragrances, stick blenders, oil mixes, oils & lye. Everything you need to make soap.
The classes & very relaxed, she will answer questions & your fellow class mates are anywhere from 1st time to professional soap makers.
4 classes under my belt now & planning to take more.

I have attended many classes at the Soap Studio. Kerri and her husband Dave are truly amazing people. Yes, they are running a business, but they really want to help soap novices to learn and excel at the soap craft and to help their students start up a business of their own. There are plenty of soap instructors online, but their soap instruction is far inferior to Kerri’s instruction. Kerri takes the soap instruction right down to the molecular level and debunks the web based instruction. This is vital because when you are trying to build a clientele, you want them to A. love your product and B. not to be harmed by your product. I’ve always been able to come home and reproduce what we did in class. Kerri and Dave also have much of the product one needs to make soap, at a discount for their students as well as discounts with other vendors for products they do not carry. I love that! When you attend a class, if you need to retake that same class, you can re-​enroll for $ 10. You can’t beat that. The Soap Making Studio is one stop shopping for all your needs: Knowledge, products and support. Totally worth the drive if you do not live near Lemon Grove.

Kerri is such a knowledgable and talented teacher! I took several classes with her, including the 210, 330, and 215 classes (advanced soapmaking, soap labeling, and liquid soap making). Anyone who makes soap or wants to make soap will benefit from taking these classes! You won’t be disappointed. I travel five hours each way to take her classes :)

When I signed up for the class, I did not realize it was a demonstration class… I thought it was going to be «hands on.» Nevertheless, I am now much more confident that I will be able to use the skills that Carrie imparted to us. I loved that fact that the class was small, and all of our questions were answered. Since I don’t live in the area, I am unable to take all of the classes that I would like, but I know that I will be signing up for more.

My Wife and I took the soap making 101 class to give it a try. We were both extremely impressed by the detail and care that went into not just teaching us how to make a bar of soap, but to understand what we were doing so that we could experiment successfully on our own. Carrie doesn’t teach you to blindly follow someone elses recipe, she gives you the understanding to go out and be creative yourself. We have signed up for 4 more classes and are looking forward to them.

I took 2 classes this weekend at the Soapmaking Studio. Through the years, I have taken a variety of different classes on crafting, soapmaking, etc. The classes offered at the Soapmaking Studio were outstanding. These classes were absolutely the best organized and professionally presented classes I have ever taken. Kerri has extensive knowledge regarding handcrafted soapmaking. She generously shares her expertise with her students. I learned so much about starting a business and making soap with liquids other than water. I would highly recommend the Soapmaking Studio classes to anyone interested in the art of soapmaking. I traveled from Las Vegas to the San Diego area just for these classes and I plan to do so again in the future.
