St. John of the Cross

All my life I have been going to this church and I’m 45 years old. I went to school here and did most of my sacraments here. I can’t take it anymore!!! Father Peter needs prayer. He has driven out so many great parishioners who have been going to this church for years and things keep getting worst. Instead of teaching Gods good word during mass, it’s like he is a parent lecturing you as he repeats himself over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and learning nothing out of going to mass. I can’t stand his masses any longer they have become so boring and annoying. My family and I stopped going to this church and started attending mass at Saint Pius X in Jamul what a relief! We love going to church again while Father Garcia is the priest who says mass there. By the way it is well known everyone was really bummed when Father Garcia left saint johns and was relocated to saint Pius X. It was no surprise to see parishioners at Sunday mass at Saint Pius X that use to go to Saint johns and come to find out Father Peter and his big boy Jim are the same reason why they, themselves are no longer attending saint johns and to you Deacon Jim this is not Boy Scouts, you won’t loose your position if you stand up for the community to your scout leader father Peter knowing all his wrong doings. FATHER PETER AND BIG BOY JIM OPEN YOUR EYES AND EARS TO THE LORD AND SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO THIS ONCE UPON A TIME BEAUTIFUL COMMUNITY. If you want to enjoy going to church again and feel like you are part of a beautiful and loving church go to saint PiusX in jamul but if you want to fall asleep and get lectured over and over and over and over again, and feel unwanted after all the support and dedication you put in, well saint johns is the church for you! Wish all you stuck parishioners peace and luck!

This is a great church and I really enjoy the Father’s and Deacon Jim’s Homilies. They are relevant, keep your attention and just long enough for you to relate it to your life. I enjoy that their teachings stay true to the Canon Laws, and they even address the fact that it’s not popular opinion but it’s what the church believes in.
I’m really happy to be a member of the congregation and to bring my family here. Not to mention the church is gorgeous.

I would give this church ZERO stars if allowed. They are horrible. Such bigots sitting on their high pedestals judging people as being «morally corrupt» for not being married through the church. I don’t need some fat lazy guy to look down on me because of their antiquated rules. Time to find a new religion that will accept and embrace me for who I am and not consider me beneath them due to a lack of piece of paper I can buy from a Office Depot and print from home.

I’ve been a parishioner at St John of the Cross forever. I’m 24 now, I was baptized here, had my first communion and even confirmed — it was my sacrament home!
Been here for so many weddings and other occasions — and the church looks amazing for pictures, etc.
Ever since Father Ned left, this church has not been the same. The masses run extra long, the organization of everything seems so messy. The current Head priest makes you feel pressured, as if you weren’t a perfect Catholic. Father Ned used to have homily’s that were relatable and personal… it’s not like that anymore.
Regardless, I’m still here every Sunday for 10 AM Mass…

SATURDAY @ 5:30 PM
SUNDAY @ 7:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 5:30 PM
SPANISH MASS — SUNDAY @ 12:00 PM, 7:00 PM
P. S. do not give the parking guy @ the morning mass any money! He borrowed money from my dad (an usher) and didn’t pay him back for weeks… shady!

A very nice church.

Don’t go to the carnival !! beware of raffle scammers, They sell these white/​red
⁵⁰⁄₅₀ raffles tickets and will never do a drawing on the raffle tickets you buy. Cause I waited and waited and nothing. So I tried to find out who was in charge and I got the run around and finally my money back. SO BEWARE! don’t be fooled by the church scene.

i went to school here, was baptized and had my first communion here as well. years later this is where i baptized my daughter. love this parish.

It is the only catholic church I was able to find that is open early (~8am) and closes late (~7pm) throughout the week. By this I mean the chapel is usually open throughout the day almost all 7 days of the week permitting me to visit the chapel almost anytime during the day on any day to pray. The 2 gentlemen that greet me at the main entrance of the church at the beginning of the 5:30pm mass are extremely nice.

When I lived in SD, I used to go here with my Grandma every Sunday morning. When I missed a Sunday, she made me go to confession. Yes, she was that strict. We used to sit close to the front, she would be seated near the aisle. Embarrassing to say but its been a while since I attended a service, yeah kind of sad to say but I remember the last time I was there, they remodeled it. I remember kneeling, standing, sitting, kneeling, singing or at least trying to, hold hands with the person seated next to me. I really enjoyed my Sundays when I reflect back. Well anyways, this is a lovely church. =) God Bless!

This is my old grade school! My brother graduated last year and now this is my daughter’s school. Such a great environment and I know my child is getting a great education as well! The staff is wonderful and so caring! It’s all about Ms. Ayon’s pre-​4B! :-)

This place has got it goin on.
With midnight rosaries, confessions, baptisms and rows upon rows of seemingly empty pews, this place is where it’s at. You will find yourself yearning to get down on your knees upon entering. Confess your latest sins and walk out feeling new and refreshed… Listen to a sermon or two, and know that Fridays and Saturdays are now the new Sundays. The chapel is open all night long, in case you need any emergency prayer time.
