Funktional Home

I called and left a message about scheduling a session to organize my home. I never received a call back. This did not leave a great impression.

Alexis from Funktional Home is great. She helped me create a second office space in our basement that not only looked great but also is functional (pun intended). She is fast and efficient with her and your time and works on your budget parameters. Unlike some designers I’ve worked with in the past, she really listens to what you like and prefer and designs around that. We live in Wash Park and our home while remodeled isn’t huge and the storage space is limited. Alexis also helped me rearrange and re-​locate items in storage closets and spaces to maximize the space I have and make every nook and cranny more usable and accessible. Very happy and would recommend her for projects where it’s not just about organizing everything but also about making it looking great.

We hired Funktional Home to help us organize our garage. Alexis and her staff were great. She brought a colleague and handyman and organized everything from yard equipment to bikes and kids toys. They built a shelf to store things up higher and hooks and shelves to put everything on. Not only did she organize our garage but she also helped go through our laundry room and shed to de-​clutter and pull necessary items into our garage. I would highly recommend Alexis and her staff for any of your organization needs.

We hired Alexis from Funktional Home to help us redesign a few rooms in our house. We were weeding out old furniture, picking new furniture, and we needed help with color coordination and ideas for (attractive) storage. We have a huge open floor plan on the first floor (one of the things we loved about the house), but no closet and no storage outside of the kitchen cabinets. Alexis helped us lay out the floor plan, helped us choose furniture pieces that fit, and researched possible storage ideas. She also helped choose rugs, pillows, and knick-​knacks to help tie the various colors in our room together. Alexis really does focus on functionality (in a funky way!). She’d never suggest that you remove the dog beds from the living room (the dogs like to watch TV with us!) or ditch the shoe cabinet we have by the front door (the only thing preventing our entryway from being a pile of shoes!). (Another designer had made both of those suggestions to us, because she was only focused on model-​home looks, not functionality and live-​ability.) Alexis also is very mindful of budget, both with respect to her time billed (I was pleasantly surprised at how much of her time we got for the money we paid) and with respect to the items she recommended we buy. Alexis is very accessible and responsive, and we communicated lots via email and shared photos after our separate shopping expeditions. She really is a pleasure to work with and has an excellent eye!
