A&G Auto Smog Check Center

I was looking for a smog check station that was close to my home, so I checked Unilocal and found A&G Auto Smog Check Center. Their website had a discount coupon which I printed and brought with me.
Arturo is the one who runs this place. I showed him the coupon and even though the coupon said $ 10.00 off, he explained that the coupon actually was supposed to read 10% off and he said he couldn’t figure out how to modify the coupon online to change it. So I actually was able to get $ 5.00 off the regular price of $ 50.00, which meant the cost would be $ 45.00, which isn’t bad.
The facility itself is very no-​frills. The business occupies a space in a building shared with another automotive-​related business. It looked like a typical garage with all kinds of automotive-​related parts and supplies. I would classify it as «organized chaos.» ;-) After I filled out the intake form, I sat and waited in a waiting area that occupied a small corner.
I was able to be on my way in about 10 minutes. I noticed the waiting area had a sign with big letters that said «CASH ONLY.» I didn’t have enough cash on me which I told Arturo. He said he could take my debit card as payment, which I handed to him. Arturo explained to me that he prefers cash because with the electronic payment methods, the banks charge him all kinds of fees, which he wants to avoid as much as possible. I’m just glad Arturo was kind enough to take my debit card, so I could drive off. And yes, my car passed with flying colors. :-)
This is the place to come to if you’re looking for a fast smog check with friendly service from Arturo. Just remember to bring cash AND the coupon.

Quick, courteous, and friendly. I was charged $ 45.00 with a free re-​test if my car failed, which it didn’t. The shop is small with few amenities but that wasn’t an issue for me. I luckily caught them at a slow period and was seen right away. A short time later, the testing was done and I was on my way. I’m very pleased with the level of service and this review would have been the same if my car had failed.

This guy was really nice to take my car at the last minute on a Saturday, and really quick. Very professional, couldn’t have been any better. THANK YOU!

Let me tell you about my recent experience with Arturo.
I bring my SUV here to get a smog check, it failed due to
1) Misfiring in cylinder 5, meaning i need to replace the coil as well as my spark plug.
2) O2 sensor, in bank 2
He said my check engine light was on. I was charged $ 35 for this initial text, he then specifically told me to get these fix, bring it back and he’ll only charge me $ 10 for a retest.
Right after the failed test I brought my SUV to a mechanic, and got all 6 spark plugs, 1 coil and my O2 sensor all replaced. Two days later, after getting all this replaced i bring it in for a retest. Right off the bat he refused to retest but instead plug is OBDII into my vehicle’s computer and scanned it. Starts my vehicle’s engine then plugs the OBDII, NOW it comes back with codes stating i have issues with my catalytic converter and that he can’t run a test on the machine. I asked him to please rescan it, this time i told him to plug in the OBDII before starting up the engine. This time around he shows me the OBDII screen and it says «PASS» yet still refused to run the test because he states that i have to get my catalytic converter fix. I ask him, why can’t we just run the test on the machine and if it pass it pass, if i don’t i’ll pay the $ 10 and be on my merry way. Yet he refused and pretty much just gave me the S.O.L. look. Arturo was being very condescending, and rude If you are looking for a headache you know where to go. My suggestion, find another smog place and get your vehicle tested there.

Moreover, the service and the work was great and It was no hassle for me to drive my wife’s SUV in for a smog check. I got a smog check at a great discount proce and it was all done in no time at all. The owner says he is expanding soon to offer other basic auto maintenance needs such as oil change, tune ups, and the like, but at the moment its smog checks only.

Arturo now has a son who’s taken up the tools of the smog test trade and offers his services in support of the successful campaign to cleaner air. The young Mr Diaz, like his father before him, is courteous, knowledgeable and trustworthy… just the kind of person you want to entrust your baby to.
And the motorized skateboard still sits there lonely immobile, impassively waiting for its next rider/​victim. I abstained this time, the short skirt in abashed consideration.
