My dad was a member of the St Francis Yacht Club up in Sausalito but he was an ass who’s nickname was«Terrible Ted» and all I really knew was that they all loved to drink a lot and then sail the Bay, the San Francisco Bay, which is a bit mightier than Al-Bay. «Three sheets to the wind» applied and maritime law did not. Drunken sailors at the helm! However, I don’t drink or sail but I paddle. And I’ve paddled all through these waters and across Alamitos Bay many times. I am always happy to find clear paddling across calm waters with scads of gorgeous water craft plying the canals and bays, uncrowded, friendly and void of the drunken«Terrible Teds». I may show a lack of parental appreciation but my father, as a drunk, showed little in parental guidance so what’s fair is fair. I miss sailing with him in the Bay but only when he was sober. When he was drunk, I was glad I knew how to swim. And Alamitos Bay, while awesome in it’s own right, would’ve been just too small for him and no doubt would’ve driven him to more drink and more reckless antics on the water. We don’t need that in Huntington Harbor/Alamitos Bay. Keep it small, keep it clean and enjoy a beautiful sail or paddle all year round. Sober, if possible.

8 mile run complete! Great stopping here halfway through to enjoy the sunshine and check out the fancy boats strutting their stuff! Long Beach on one side. Seal Beach on the other. Bring some bread to feed to the ducks, relax and kick back! This is boat country!

«Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, A tale of a fateful trip That started from this tropic port Aboard this tiny ship…» – Lyrics from Gillian’s Island theme song One of the nicest, cleanest, best kept marina’s I’ve ever seen! Parking is close and super convenient to the boats. Getting in and out of the marina is easy as pie. Everyone seems to know each other! Friendly neighbors! My hubs and I were lucky enough to go out for a lovely day off sailing with good friends. The weather was gorgeous, and the seas were calm. The trip from Long Beach to San Pedro and back again was filled with good memories!
